Mad Men star Christina Hendricks thinks audiences have “learned a little bit of manners” since the days she was playing Joan Holloway in the AMC smash.
Reflecting on a decade having passed since the end of Mad Men, Hendricks told Deadline society has improved for the better in terms of the way in which men in particular discuss female actors.
“I think people have learned a little bit of manners now and know you don’t ask about physicality and bodies straight up when you have never met them,” said Hendricks, who was six-times Emmy nominated for Mad Men. “It’s really none of their business. I think there has been a big change since then.”
Hendricks, who has spoken in the past about the difference in audience reaction to Mad Men’s male and female breakouts, noted that the show “was aesthetically accentuated, which was a thrill and a highlight,...

After her role in the hit spy thriller, the Irish actor stars in the BBC’s racy new Agatha Christie adaptation. She talks about her difficult school days, her pole-vaulting uncle, and being inspired by Love Island
As Ella Lily Hyland poses for photos, her black spaniel Nina trots about the studio, stopping occasionally to be stroked. “She always wants to be close,” says the 26-year-old Irish actor as we settle down to chat once she’s out of stilettos and back in her comfy leggings and sweatshirt, long limbs curled beneath her, dog nestled under her seat. “She’s really shy.”
Nina’s a fairly recent addition to Hyland’s life, but has fitted right in with her increasingly busy schedule, keeping her company on photoshoots and even visiting the set while Hyland filmed her latest project, a BBC adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero, co-starring Anjelica Huston and Clarke Peters.

A tangled web of jealousy, deceit and dysfunction drives the trailer for BritBox’s Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero detective drama, which dropped on Friday.
Angelica Huston stars as Lady Tressilian who hosts her favorite nephew, British tennis star Nevile Strange (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) and his new wife Kay (Mimi Keene) and ex-wife Audrey (Ella Lily Hyland) in an aristocratic estate.
“You’ll not make a mockery of marriage under my roof,” Lady Tressilian warns Strange and his new wife as their nasty love triangle threatens to upend her summer house party. Of course being an Agatha Christie yarn set in England 1936, that disreputable unfinished business between the former sweethearts is followed by a violent death.
And that has Inspector Leach, played by Matthew Rhys, soon on the scene to ferret out a murderer from a colorful collection of suspects: a long-suffering lady’s companion, a mysterious gentleman’s valet, an exiled cousin with a grudge,...

With Stranger Things concluding in epic fashion this year, The Duffer Brothers (that’s Matt and Ross) are going to have to find a way to fill their time; after all, they’ve spent a decade on that show alone. With that, The Duffer Brothers have a couple of projects going on, one of which is The Boroughs, another project in development for Netflix. And while it might not be taking viewers to the Upside Down, it does share some qualities.
The Duffer Brothers turned up at the Next on Netflix event this week to not only promote Stranger Things but The Boroughs and Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, in which they will serve as executive producers. On these, Matt said, “Of the two projects, The Boroughs probably shares the most DNA with Stranger Things because it’s about a group of misfits who fight an otherworldly evil.

Netflix is set to break new ground in supernatural drama with “The Boroughs,” a unique series from the creators of “Stranger Things” that shifts the genre’s focus to older protagonists. Announced during the streaming platform’s 2025 content presentation, the show promises to blend horror and humor in a retirement community setting.
The series follows a group of senior residents who must band together to fight an otherworldly threat targeting their most valuable resource: time. Creators Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, with oversight from Matt and Ross Duffer, have crafted a premise that moves beyond traditional supernatural storytelling.
“This time our misfits are a little on the older side. They ride golf carts, not bikes,” Matt Duffer said, highlighting the show’s distinctive approach. The series will be set in a retirement community located in the New Mexico desert, offering a fresh perspective on supernatural drama.

Since his first feature-length movie, She's Gotta Have It, was released in 1986, Lee's movies have been widely watched and celebrated. In the decade that followed his directorial debut, Lee directed many movies, including the critically acclaimed Do The Right Thing and Malcolm X, with both the 1989 and 1992 movies garnering multiple Academy Award nominations.
Lee's prolific directing career continued into the 2000s with notable movies ranging from the Edward Norton and Philip Seymour Hoffman-led 25th Hour to Inside Man, the latter of which was Spike Lee and Denzel Washington's fourth movie together. There’s a notion that action movies are best enjoyed on the big screens. But in recent times, Ott platforms have also stepped up their game in producing original action movies for their audience. To match and compete with massive action movie franchises like John Wick, Mission: Impossible, and others, streaming platforms like Netflix have also created projects like Extraction.

“Bonhoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin.” emerges as a dramatic biographical drama that follows Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s amazing life as a German Lutheran priest who dared to oppose the Nazi government during one of humanity’s darkest times. Set in pre-World War II Germany, the film examines how a very religious thinker evolved from a contemplative theologian to an active resistance fighter eager to confront Hitler’s totalitarian machinery.
The movie is more than just a historical recounting; it is a compelling reflection on moral courage, personal conviction, and the incredible decisions people make when confronted with systemic evil. The film provides a fascinating narrative that resonates far beyond its historical setting, depicting Bonhoeffer’s drastic journey from a wealthy intellectual to a potential assassin plotting against Hitler.

The filmmakers behind Harriet were tasked with securing a Harriet cast talented enough to bring the real-life figures behind Harriet Tubmans story to life alongside some fictional and composite characters. The 2019 film, directed by Kasi Lemmons, follows the events of Tubman's life, focusing on her escape from slavery and subsequent rescue missions as part of the Underground Railroad, which cemented her legacy as an American icon. Harriet takes some creative liberties, including inventing and amalgamating characters for the sake of narrative efficiency, but the broad strokes stay true to history.
Harriet saw a long journey to the screen, with co-writer Gregory Allen Howard first pitching the biopic under the title Freedom Fire in 1994. Howard recalls that one studio executive wanted Julia Roberts to play Harriet Tubman. Thankfully, the final film is more respectful when it comes to casting Harriets real-life figures. That paid off, as the films talented ensemble is a highlight,...

Harriet tells the true story of abolitionist and Underground Railroad conductor Harriet Tubman, but how much did the film get right about this remarkable figure? Directed and co-written by Kasi Lemmons (with fellow co-writer Gregory Allen Howard), Harriet stars Cynthia Erivo in the titular role, headlining a cast that also includes Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Mone, Joe Alwyn, and Clarke Peters. This crew of exceptional talent came together to bring Tubman's extraordinary life and deeds to the screen. Still, like all biopics, creative liberties were necessary to fill in the cracks of the true story.
The story of Araminta Ross, later called Harriet Tubman, is one that took far too long to be adapted to the screen. However, the time it took to begin filming Harriet was entirely worth it, as the film did beautiful justice to the historical figure and her works to free slaves leading up...

There's no question that as soon as it premiered, Game of Thrones quickly became the blueprint for fantasy television. Like all massively popular and successful TV series, a slew of copycat shows cropped up after Game of Thrones premiered, and fantasy television entered mainstream spheres once again. Television has always been a great place for speculative fiction, and Game of Thrones was a reminder of this for the 21st century. Though the series is often defined by the sex and violence that punctuate so many of the episodes, the political intrigue and well-paced character arcs are just as critical.
One of the biggest criticisms of Game of Thrones was that it was a fantasy TV that wasted its potential. The final season of Game of Thrones was panned by both critics and audiences for failing its characters and narrative momentum. However, this doesn't change how influential the series was and...

Some fantasy TV was amazing from the very first scene, ensnaring viewers with a wild opening and keeping them gripped long after it finished. Shows like Game of Thrones and Supernatural demonstrated the "in medias res" technique well, throwing the audience straight into the action and then dialing it back a notch to allow for some calm before the next storm. Meanwhile, other fantasy TV shows opened more peacefully but very swiftly demonstrated their vivid world-building and danger. Regardless, first scenes often say it all about the production to come.
Some of the best characters in fantasy were introduced in episode 1 of their respective shows, but not at first, with a key mystery suggested in the first scene instead. Sci-fi Westerns can be a hit or miss, with Outland standing out despite plot holes and similarities to High Noon. Sean Connery shines in the role of Marshall O'Niel, embodying the lone hero archetype in a space setting. While Outland has gained a cult following, it faces criticism for plot holes and questionable science, challenging its appeal.
The mashing up of movie genres can be a viewer's delight or an awful concoction, like oil and water. Both the sci-fi and Western genres have a dedicated fanbase that usually is pretty protective and quick to point out faults that go against the grain in a way that takes away from the genre. This is the reason why sci-fi Westerns have always been tricky to nail; for every Mad Max: Fury Road, a Wild Wild West is waiting to offset fans' opinions of this particular mash-up.
