Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner has revealed that roughly a month after he underwent emergency heart surgery in 2021, he suffered a stroke that led to brain damage and has affected his ability to play guitar.
As widely reported back in 2021, Faulkner’s aorta ruptured onstage during the Louder Than Life festival, leading to a 10-hour emergency surgery that saved the metal musician’s life.
Faulkner has since returned to the band, and continues to tour with the iconic metal act, but in a new video interview with Premier Guitar (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), he disclosed that he suffered another serious health setback shortly after the emergency heart surgery.
The guitarist related the incident and subsequent ramifications as follows:
“We went back out on the road in 2022 and have kind of been on the road since. But there’s a bit of collateral damage. Well, not a lot of people know — some nearest and dearest,...

An action-packed adventure with a 90’s backbone awaits viewers in Netflix’s The Electric State starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt.
The film also features the voice work of Alan Tudyk, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate and more. Based on the graphic novel by Simon Stålenhag, the film watches Michelle (Brown) and Keats (Pratt) venture into the dangerous Exclusion Zone and the heart of artificial intelligence firm Sentre to try and rescue Michelle’s brother. The politics of robots vs. humans fall to the side as each of them has their own robot companion, and they meet more on their adventures to track down Christopher (Woody Norman), who Michelle was told died in a car accident that also took the lives of their parents.
Several 90’s needle drops play in many different scenes from the more sentimental ones to the high-adrenaline ones. Some are performed by a piano-playing Taco robot.

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Maxxxine.MaXXXine is the perfect entry in Ti West's X trilogy to include several popular songs, and the film makes great use of music throughout. Ti West is the hands-on creative behind the X movie trilogy, which began with X in 2022, followed by Pearl later that year, and 2024's MaXXXine. Each film features Mia Goth as the protagonist, and she occasionally appears as multiple characters. Meanwhile, Ti West has taken on the role of director, writer, producer and editor, while bringing in Tyler Bates as the composer for each entry, along with some additional help along the way.
Considering the fairly tight-knit production, the films rely on every element performing at its best in order to deliver a satisfying final product. A generational moment took place during Turnstile‘s performance this past Friday (June 28th) at the Tons of Rock festival in Oslo, Norway.
While the hardcore band was in the midst of its typically raucous set, a member of Turnstile’s social media team captured two heavy metal legends taking in the action together from the sidestage: Metallica’s James Hetfield and Judas Priest’s Rob Halford.

Hetfield was particularly excited, fist pumping and shouting along to the lyrics, while Halford stood in stoic observance as he appeared to mouth the words to the song.
The clip was first posted to Turnstile’s Instagram Story and was eventually reposted on Reddit and other platforms, gaining some viral traction.
“Actually so sick to see some of the most iconic dudes in heavy music still appreciating the next generation,” read the top comment on the post in the r/hardcore subreddit.

Christmas has come early for genre fans this year with the release of MaXXXine, the third and perhaps not-so-final part of a horror trilogy that began in 2022 with X, a splatterfest set in the ’70s porn industry. Mia Goth was director Ti West’s leading lady, playing both Maxine Mink, the leading lady of the skinflick being made (The Farmer’s Daughters), and her crazy old nemesis, Pearl, who most violently objects to the goings on at her and her husband’s respectable Texas farmstead. For the second film, Pearl — a near-instant prequel — Goth resumed the title role, but in the latest, and for now the last, she reverts to Maxine Mink.
In the neon-lit, Hi-nrg world of MaXXXine, Maxine, it transpires, has escaped the notorious “Texas Porn-Shoot Massacre” without a scratch to her rep, and is about to embark on a legitimate acting career in a mid-range Hollywood horror film,...

Godzilla vs Kong soundtrack features mostly instrumental scores, with only four main lyrical songs, fitting the thematic undertones of the film. Composed by Junkie Xl, the score is used for action sequences while classic songs like Elvis Presley's "Loving Arms" enhance emotional moments. Each song in the soundtrack, like Elvis Presley's "Loving Arms," complements specific scenes, adding depth and emotion to the monster mayhem.
The Godzilla vs Kong soundtrack has only a few songs that aren't instrumental scores, infusing some popular music into the monster mayhem, with some even having thematic undertones. Adam Wingard's Godzilla vs Kong was the build up of the cinematic universe known as the MonsterVerse, with the much anticipated showdown between the two iconic beasts. Judas Priest continue to unveil tracks from their forthcoming album Invincible Shield ahead of its March 8th release date.
“The Serpent and the King” is the fourth single from the LP so far, and it’s another scalding ripper from the British metal legends.
Rob Halford’s falsetto vocals are front and center — yep, he can still hit that vaunted Painkiller register — and the guitar tone sounds like it’s scratching the speakers from the inside. Under the hood, the guitar work and riff arrangements are densely composed — enough for both thrash and prog heads to feast on.
Regarding the album’s musical direction, guitarist Richie Faulkner told Audio Ink Radio that Invincible Shield “is progressive in the sense that it’s not like verse-chorus-verse-chorus-solo-chorus-finish,” likening it to Priest’s ’70s output.
“It’s musical part-verse-musical part,” he added. “It might do a few twists and turns, musically. It veers from the path of it,...

Ozzy Osbourne has revealed that he has to undergo yet another surgery due to the injuries he sustained in a 2019 fall and a 2003 Atv accident. He is also slated to get an epidural injection to relieve the pain he is currently experiencing.
It’s been a rough go of it for Ozzy over the past four years in particular. In 2019, he suffered a significant fall at home, dislodging metal rods that were inserted into his body after he famously flipped over in an Atv in 2003. On top of that, he continues to battle Parkinson’s disease.
In the return of episode of The Osbournes Podcast (watch below), which premiered on Tuesday (September 12th), the metal icon offered an update on his health, revealing that he set to undergo his fourth significant surgery related to his structural damage, including a major neck operation last year.

German metal singer Doro has shared a cover of the Judas Priest classic “Living After Midnight” featuring guest vocals from Priest frontman Rob Halford himself.
Considering the heavy metal pedigree of both singers — Doro as the frontwoman of the iconic German band Warlock in the ’80s and as a longstanding solo artist, and Halford as the Metal God — “Living After Midnight” comes as a natural choice for a cover version. It’s a confident and rebellious track, and the duo sings it with conviction. Obviously, Halford has performed the song countless times, but still sounds as triumphant as ever delivering the boastful lyrics alongside Doro.
“Judas Priest and Rob Halford have always been one of my biggest inspirations and continue to be my heroes,” remarked Doro in a press release. “It was so great working with Rob. ‘Living After Midnight’ has always been one of my favorite songs and I...

Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner has partnered with Gibson for the new Flying V Custom artist signature model.
The Flying V has long been Faulkner’s axe of choice when he’s onstage, and the new signature model features numerous personal touches — the striking Pelham Blue finish being the most obvious.
The signature guitar also touts a one-piece mahogany body with a full-face pickguard, multi-ply binding, a mahogany neck with a custom Richie Faulkner profile, and an ebony fretboard with a mother-of-pearl falcon inlay at the 12th fret. Schematically, the guitar features a minimal electronics setup, with only a pickup selector switch and a single volume control.
“This guitar has become a good friend of mine over the past couple of years and is the latest evolution of my main guitar with Priest for the past 12 years,” Faulkner said in a press release. “It’s something that has evolved as...

In 1980, Dolly Parton was ruling the pop and country charts with “9 to 5” while Judas Priest were “Breaking the Law” and the members of Mötley Crüe weren’t even wearing leather. At that point in time, none of those artists likely ever thought they’d cross paths. Now, Parton has teamed with Priest screamer Rob Halford and Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx and guitarist John 5 on a new song, “Bygones,” one of two new tracks Parton released from her upcoming Rockstar album, out Nov. 17.

Dolly Parton has continued rolling out her Rockstar era with a pair of new tracks: an original song titled “Bygones” featuring Judas Priest’s Rob Halford and a cover of Heart’s “Magic Man” with Ann Wilson herself.
“Bygones” also features Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx and John 5, who recently joined the Crüe as their new guitarist. On the track, Parton and Halford trade dueling vocals, singing, “I’m sorry, so sorry/ How long must you punish me?/ Why can’t we just move on?/ Let bygones be bygones.”
In a statement, Parton called “Bygones” one of her “very favorites” on the album, adding, “The song fits with so many couples and coupling my voice with Rob, one of my all-time favorites, made it even more special.”
On her cover of “Magic Man,” Parton mostly sticks to the original, singing the first verse before handing the mic over to Wilson for the second verse.

After conflicting reports as to his well being, Tom Petty has passed away at 66. The rock legend was found unconscious in his Malibu home after suffering cardiac arrest yesterday, eventually being taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital; though Petty held on much longer than original reports stated, several outlets now confirm his passing. If you’ve already made your way through your favorite songs on Spotify, spare some time for his most memorable music videos.

While the mainline series that is Dark Nights: Metal is allowing for Scott Snyder to display his vast knowledge of this DC Universe, we can’t help but love how the various tie-ins that’ll hit stands this fall have an Elseworlds kind of flavor to them. Well, there’s that and the fact that each of them spotlight various evil versions of Batman.
To date, we’ve been offered closer looks at a sinister-looking Flash-Batman amalgam, The Red Death, and a twisted Batman-Joker hybrid known as The Batman Who Laughs, the latter of which may ultimately prove to get the most attention. Regardless, the next fellow to emanate from the Dark Multiverse that we’ll aim to discuss is bound to turn a few heads himself.

The eight-episode weekly series is based on the special that aired back in August 2016 and the live shows in Los Angeles. Each episode features a different set of stand-up comedians performing in front of a live audience. They share a personal experience, which they relate to a hit song. Where there's great popularity, there's sometimes an equal and opposite backlash. Pokemon has occasionally been accused of promoting everything from Satanism to animal cruelty. The book Why Knock Rock, published in 1984, warned of the morally corrosive dangers hidden in the music of Judas Priest, Kiss and Led Zeppelin.
Before all this, there was the moral panic surrounding Dungeons & Dragons. From humble beginnings, the role-playing game quickly became a phenomenon in the 1970s, taking the company behind it - Tactical Studies Rules, founded by Gary Gygax - from a tiny cottage industry to a 600-strong firm by the end of the decade.

I loved Mad Max: Fury Road. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen, and when I drove home from the theater after the movie ended, all I wanted to do was listen to Judas Priest while speeding wildly down the freeway. Unfortunately, I live in Los Angeles, where you can never go faster than 10 mph. So that never really happened. Just when you think they couldn’t improve on the multi-Oscar winner, something comes along to make the post-apocalyptic hellscape just one louder. Producers have decided to issue the “Black & Chrome” edition, which turns the entire movie into black and white. It’s the film you never thought you needed, but now you probably can’t live without. In a 2015 interview with /Film, the movie’s director George Miller explained how fond he was of the Mm:fr b&w when he said, “Every time I saw the black and white I thought ‘Oh,...

I’ll confess. I have a real mushy soft spot for Heavy Metal music. Back in the ‘80s, in my teen years, my buddy Nick and I would crank the latest from Kiss, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Cinderella, etc. And there’s something specifically about Metal tailored to teenagers – that heightened sense of drama we feel at that age, the hormonal urges, and the need to push back against ‘society’. (Right – but please give us our allowances to consume products, okay?)
But Metal also equated with power, which was aligned with evil, and before long, many parents came up with the notion that Metal was Satan’s music. (Is the Pmrc still a thing? Brr.) Well, marketing is marketing, and few Metal bands fought the label (hell, some even embraced it). So it seemed the timing was right for that satanic safe haven, the Horror Film, to meet up with the...

On the whole, heavy metal was quite polarizing throughout the 90’s. The first half of the decade was generally popular with fans but the second half witnessed the formation of the sub-genre nu-metal which many saw as a watered down product that betrayed the origins of heavy metal.
When it came to prominence in the late 90’s, many bands saw it as an opportunity for quick access to a more mainstream audience and witnessed bands like Machine Head, Judas Priest and even Megadeth succumb to its tantalizing promises, and ultimately, falling short of their goals.
But this wasn’t the only change happening at the time, because many bands were also changing their sound and creating entirely new sub-genres by shifting themselves into new artistic directions. Many were also refining their sound further by utilizing new production techniques not available to them before, as well as expanding their...

The eleventh entry in an on-going series of audiovisual essays by Cristina Álvarez López and Adrian Martin. Greg Mottola's Adventureland (2009) is now playing in the United States through February 29.Few subjects divide people more sharply and ferociously than respective tastes in music. We build our identities, our system of values, even our world-views, through the music we choose to love and cultivate, whether as players or listeners—and we project our musical distastes onto a screen (or a variety of screens) constituting those monstrous Others from which we differentiate and dissociate ourselves.Popular movies have a lot to do with propagating this fascinating but treacherous and unstable cultural process. Especially teen movies, which involve themselves with the vagaries of pop, rock, and other musical styles more extensively and intimately than most genres—particularly at the level of ‘sampling,’ of the selection of pre-existing tracks for the film soundtrack (and,...

The friends and family of the late Lemmy Kilmister, known for being the truly rock and roll heart of Motörhead, gathered yesterday for a funeral service. Lemmy died in late December from to a particularly aggressive form of cancer. His funeral was filled with tributes from the likes of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, Slash, Judas Priest's Rob Halford, and Anthrax's Scott Ian. In his eulogy, Grohl described his first meeting with Lemmy, describing him as his hero, "the one true rock and roller who bridged my love of AC/DC, Sabbath, and Zeppelin, with my love of GBH and the Ramones and Black Flag." Fighting back tears, Grohl closed his speech by quoting the Little Richard song "Precious Lord Take My Hand." In his speech, Slash spoke about being "fucking intimidated" when he first met Lemmy with Guns N' Roses in London. "He was such a fucking...

Welcome back to This is Our Design. All good things come in small packages. All great podcasts come a couple days late. We’re not really sure if either of these things is true, but we know this: you don’t owe us your listenership…you owe us Awe (we’re actually not very sure about this, either; we just like to believe it). This week, co-hosts Sean Colletti and Kate Kulzick are joined by author Cooper S. Beckett of Eat The Rudecast as the crew breaks down yet another strong central sequence in addition to talking about folk tales and much more. This all leads in, of course, to “Kate’s Classical Corner” and “The Devil in the Details,” which are always ready to shock and disturb you with how thorough they are. As always, you can e-mail us at thisisourdesign666[at]gmail.com.

In terms of hysterical moral panics over pretty prosaic pop culture, the Satanic subliminal messages in rock music scare ranks somewhere between all the people burning Beatles records after John Lennon’s ill-advised Jesus crack and the time a large portion of the American population genuinely believed that playing Dungeons & Dragons would turn kids into occult-obsessed serial killers (mainly it just made them spend a lot of money on dice and get good at maths). And yet somehow it lead to congressional hearings, court cases, and an attempted bill to stop the practice of backmasking in music.
Backmasking is exactly what it sounds like – recording some vocals and reversing them, then concealing them within a regular song. Starting with the rise of the Christian right in the late seventies and reaching fever pitch in the following decade, people with way too much time on their hands decided that...

The summer doldrums are in full effect as the sum total of all 10 albums in top 10 will hover around 300,000 or more than 80,000 less than Coldplay sold in its opening week for “Ghost Stories” this spring. Sam Smith’s “In The Lonely Hour” hangs out at No. 2 (45,000). The unsinkable “Frozen” soundtrack will be No. 3 (40,000), while Trey Songz’ current No. 1, “Trigga” and Ed Sheeran’s “X” are too close to call for No. 4. Next come two more debuts: Judas Priest’s “Redeemer of Souls” at No. 6 (32,000) and Dirty Heads’ “Sound Of Change” at No. 7 (24,000). Miranda Lambert’s “Platinum” is No. 8 (22,000), “Now That’s What I Call Music 50” at No.
