F. W. Remmler was a German military officer, Ph.D., zoologist, falconer and film producer. He ran a zoological station in Kajana, Finland, from where he supplied wild animals to zoos all over the world. Remmler produced several short films for children in which animals played the main role. He also wrote the short story "Bastard" which was the basis for the Swedish/Norwegian feature film. Fritz Remmler was born in Tammisaari, Finland (then part of the Russian Empire) where his father was attached to the German embassy. He grew up and studied in Finland and did his military service in Germany during WWI.
