Warning: Contains Spoilers for West Coast Avengers #2! Captain America’s shield is an extension of himself, and that is made obvious by how masterfully he wields it during battle. Captain America can make his shield basically defy the laws of physics, while firmly establishing it as an offensive weapon just as much as it is a defensive one. Captain America’s shield is certainly one of a kind. Except, maybe it isn’t anymore, as Cap’s ‘evil twin’ just got his own version of the iconic shield.

It is virtually unheard-of for top filmmakers and talent to get back to a journalist almost immediately without going through armies of publicists. Not so when it comes to talking about Neon founder and CEO Tom Quinn, the savvy and innovative indie executive whose company is enjoying its best year in history thanks to nurturing the under-35 cinephile crowd, as well as seeing yet another one of its films, Anora, win the prestigious 2024 Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or for the fifth consecutive year, an unprecedented feat for a U.S. indie or studio distributor.

Twisters promises to deliver the same spectacle and human drama that made the 1996 original a box-office hit. Twisters' first trailer also featured a "critical scene" that was almost deleted.
Glen Powell's career is riding high following a string of breakout hits. Audiences found his charm irresistible in Top Gun: Maverick, and he proved he's leading-man material in Anyone but You and Hit Man. He's now venturing into blockbuster territory with Twisters, a standalone sequel to the 1996 disaster flick that starred Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. The pair's onscreen chemistry was palpable in that film, something Powell and co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones have replicated in the sequel. The first Twisters trailer teased a film with spectacle and rom-com elements, but Powell's brief white T-shirt scene also helped. Director Lee Isaac Chung told Entertainment Weekly that his editing staff ensured that sequence wasn't deleted.

I am a sucker for movies about Broadway and those who spend their lives in the theatre. Of course the crown jewel of the genre is the Oscar-winning All About Eve, but there are so many others including 1933’s Morning Glory which won a young Katherine Hepburn her first Academy Award, as well as its rarely seen remake, 1958’s underrated Stage Struck. Ginger Rogers did a good one, too: Forever Female. The list goes on and on and now includes a stellar new entry, The Great Lillian Hall which gives the great Jessica Lange a challenging role worth her talents.
Premiering on HBO May 31, just barely under the wire for Emmy consideration, Lange’s performance as a stage legend facing dementia should send chills down the spine of any other contenders for Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie this season. This veteran star simply knocks it out of the park.

When it comes to romance, few decades produced more memorable pairings than the 2000s. Between the romcoms, historical dramas and other romantic films that were popular during the era, there was no shortage of movies with memorable relationships, and titles from the decade like Pride & Prejudice remain the very pinnacle of romance for audiences.
Many 2000s-era movies were based on classic novels and modern works like Louis Sachar's Holes; others were completely original screenplays like . However, regardless of their inspiration, these films all included one thing: fantastic love stories.

How does one repay a team of producers for launching its highest grossing film of all time? Give them the key to the studio — literally.
On Monday, “Barbie” producers, LuckyChap’s Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara inked a first-look deal at Warner Bros., which distributed the $1.4 billion-grossing movie. So, to celebrate, Warner Bros. Pictures Group Co-Chairs and CEO Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca decided to resurrect an old tradition, started by WB co-founder Jack Warner.
“Every once in a while, when a significant piece of talent signed a deal with the studio, he presented that company, that talent, with a key to the studio,” De Luca said as he and Abdy raised a toast to the trio. “We are so delighted to have our first key to our studio be given to LuckyChap.”

Greta Gerwig could be in line for a hattrick of Oscar nominations this year for Picture, Director, and Original Screenplay for her marvelous work on Warner Bros.’s “Barbie.” The multi-hyphenate co-wrote the movie with her partner, Noah Baumbach, while she brought to life the world of Barbie as a visionary helmer of one of the biggest films of the year. She has reaped three Oscar bids to date for two of her previous pictures. Let’s take a closer look at those races.
Her first bids came in 2018 for “Lady Bird,” which tells the story of a 17-year-old girl who comes of age in Sacramento, California, in 2002. Saoirse Ronan stars in the lead role while Timothée Chalamet, Lucas Hedges, and Laurie Metcalf also featured. “Lady Bird” was a critical darling, which meant that Gerwig enjoyed a good time at the Critics Choice Awards, securing nominations for both Original Screenplay and Director.

After picking up Golden Globe and Critics Choice wins this year for his performance as serial killer Larry Hall on Apple TV+’s limited series Black Bird, Paul Walter Hauser also has landed his first Emmy nomination for the role. He is nominated alongside late co-star Ray Liotta in the supporting actor category, an honor he says is “a great creative swan song for people to know how great [Liotta] really was.” Chatting on the morning his nomination was announced, Hauser tells THR how he got in (and out) of the mind of a killer, if he’d take on a role this dark again and his desire to balance both comedic and dramatic projects.

As Captain America, Steve Rogers has dedicated his life to protecting the innocent - a mission exemplified by his iconic, one-of-a-kind shield. However, in the more than 80 years since his introduction, the Super Soldier has wielded some versions of his famous shield that are closer to weapons of mass destruction.
Here, then, are the 16 most powerful versions of Captain America's shield in Marvel canon - from those imbued with dark magic to those enhanced by sci-fi tech, and each wielded in battle by Steve Rogers, often to lethal effect.
Cancerverse Shield
Technically, this version of Steve Rogers' shield is the least deadly in the multiverse - but for an incredibly dark reason. Introduced in Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning, Leonardo Manco and Mahmud Asrar's Realm of Kings #1, the Cancerverse is a reality where the cosmic embodiment of life has conquered death. In this reality, nothing ever dies, and yet life is warped beyond belief.

[This story contains mild spoilers from the first two episodes of Queen Charlotte.]
Five minutes into Shonda Rhimes’ Bridgerton prequel Queen Charlotte, a young Charlotte, played by India Ria Amarteifio, is called “Ridiculous to the eye” by her brother Adolphus as she sits barely moving in the back of a carriage. Charlotte, displeased, both by her circumstances — being married off to the king of England — and her attire, delivers a terse response that sets the tone for what will come to define her character throughout the series: Her feisty spirit and her fashion sense.
“I am wearing lyonnaise silk encrusted with Indian sapphires working with an overlay of 200-year-old lace,” Charlotte retorts. “Apparently too much movement can cause the sapphires to shred the lace. If that were not enough, the gown sits atop a bespoke underpinning made of whalebone.
“Yes, whalebone, brother,” she adds a moment later as he stares back in astonishment, “The bones of whales. Whales died so I could look like this.

There are no sure things in life, but if you're making a film with Bryan Cranston and Allison Janney as co-leads, I'm fairly certain you've got the goods.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this dynamic thespian duo is set to topline Jon S. Baird's "Everything's Going to Be Great." The project originated with "I, Tonya" screenwriter Steven Rogers, and if you're any kind of theater nerd, it sounds like this will be right down your alley. There's not a lot of information currently available regarding the film from Entertainment One and Astute Films, but this is a project we'll certainly be keeping our eyes on as things develop.

In “Mike,” blood, sweat, and probably a few tears splatter off the faces of Mike Tyson’s opponents in the ring. One after another, they’re hit with his explosive left hook, their cheeks ricocheting off their jaws before they topple dramatically to the ground. Hulu’s limited series, helmed by Steven Rogers and Craig Gillespie, slows these moments down, intent on displaying the physical impact of Tyson’s superhuman strength on the body. This sheer power, coupled with a steadfast dedication to the art of boxing is what made him the youngest heavyweight champion of the world, in 1986, at just 20 years old, catapulting him into history and pop culture stardom.
“Mike” is presented largely as an exercise in self-examination, opening with Tyson as he prepares to step on stage and narrate the events of his own tumultuous life, from his rise to fame as a boxing prodigy straight out of juvenile detention,...

Plot: Mike is an unauthorized and no-holds-barred look at the life of Mike Tyson – and it is one wild ride. The 8-episode limited series explores the tumultuous ups and downs of Tyson’s boxing career and personal life – from being a beloved global athlete to a pariah and back again. Focusing the lens on Mike Tyson, the series examines class in America, race in America, fame and the power of media, misogyny, the wealth divide, the promise of the American Dream and ultimately our own role in shaping Mike’s story.

Or rather, you know the bullet points of his strange life and career: his troubled childhood, his brutal boxing career that began at such a young age, his connection to Don King, his love of pigeons, his lisp, his rape conviction, the fight where he bit off a chunk of Evander Holyfield's ear, his face tattoo, his cameo in "The Hangover," and so on. These aren't the sum of an entire life, but trivia questions, and "Mike," the new Hulu series that covers Tyson's rise and fall, sure hopes you're familiar with them, because that's almost all you're going to get.
For most of its episode, "Mike" is a surface-level look at Tyson. Allow me to get a boxing metaphor out of the way nice and early and say this: "Mike" pulls its punches.

When it comes to “authorization,” Hulu’s Mike Tyson limited series Mike was damned if it did, damned if it didn’t, and probably shouldn’t have bothered at all.
Mike Tyson is pissed off that Mike, created by Steven Rogers and showrun by Karin Gist, was created without his “authorization,” loading up on accusations of racism against the Disney-owned streamer. The biggest problem with Mike, naturally enough, is that it’s far too generous to its unauthorized subject and, realistically, it’s hard to imagine anybody making a more sympathetic story about the former heavyweight champion and convicted rapist.
Mike isn’t some total puff piece, but it’s way more invested in trying to understand Mike Tyson and the things he has either admitted to doing or been convicted of doing than in actually depicting those things and letting the audience draw their own conclusions.

Mike Tyson is a figure with unusual voltage, a celebrity who fought for his spot in the firmament with a weaponized charisma. The champion boxer is relentless even by the standards of the sport, with the famous incident in which he bit the ear of Evander Holyfield casting a shadow over his achievements. Outside the ring, he’s simultaneously known for a surprising soft-spokenness that makes the listener want to lean in and for a tendency toward violence — including a 1992 conviction for the rape of Desiree Washington — that repels.
A serious reckoning with Tyson’s place in our culture, in the currently on-trend format of dramatized retelling via limited series, would deal with both sides of the Tyson image, and the complicated ways they feed each other — the fact that the allure of Tyson is bolstered by our sense of him as threatening. This is not the path that Hulu’s new series “Mike” takes.

Mike Tyson has again expressed his disdain for the new Hulu biopic series about his life. The former professional heavyweight boxer doesn’t approve of “Mike,” to say the least, stating that the streamer “stole” his life story.
Tyson aired his grievances against Hulu and the series through his Instagram on Saturday, sharing two posts with strong words against the streamer.
The first post commends Dana White, the standing president of premiere mixed martial arts organization Ultimate Fighting Championship. Tyson alleges that Hulu attempted to pay White — and potentially UFC — to promote “Mike,” but White declined because he “honors friendship.” Tyson calls the series a “slave master take over story” about his life.
“Hulu tried to desperately pay my brother Dana White millions without offering me a dollar to promote their slave master take over story about my life,” Tyson wrote. “He turned it down because he honors friendship and treating people with dignity.

Hulu’s “Mike” takes yet another look at the life of embattled boxing champion Mike Tyson, and series creator Steven Rogers told television reporters on Thursday he hopes the athlete, who has criticized the show, may change his opinion if he gets a chance to see it.
“I would hope that if he watches it, that he would change his opinion,” Rogers said during Thursday’s Television Critics Association summer tour panel for the upcoming show.
Shortly after the project, which stars “Moonlight” breakout Trevante Rhodes as the embattled boxer, was announced, Tyson slammed the series, calling it “a prime example of how Hulu’s corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of my life story” in a now-deleted Instagram post. He followed up a few days later with the announcement of another project about his life, in which Jamie Foxx will portray him, calling the biopic the “authorized” version.

There has been no shortage of TV programming featuring or about Mike Tyson since his reign as boxing’s heavyweight champion, from a document of his one-man show by Spike Lee to a show about his pastime of pigeon racing.
Hulu’s limited series Mike adds to that canon, but the team behind the show hopes it will also spark conversations about current issues ranging from mental health to prison reform.
“A lot of the things we’re struggling with today … have roots in his story,” writer and executive producer Steven Rogers (I, Tonya) told reporters Thursday during Hulu’s time at the Television Critics Association press tour. “I think he’s endlessly fascinating.”

"You gotta be the meanest fighter God ever created." Hulu has unveiled the full-length official trailer for an incredible new sports biopic series titled Mike, about the infamous boxer Mike Tyson. This looks like a knock out! "Mike is an unauthorized and no-holds-barred look at the life of Mike Tyson – and it is one wild ride." This is from the same team that made I, Tonya, featuring Craig Gillespie directing episodes, and Steven Rogers writing the script - which seems like the perfect filmmaking team to handle this story. I don't think they will shy away from how abusive he is, which is an honest part of his character. Trevante Rhodes (from Moonlight) stars as Mike, with a main cast including Harvey Keitel as boxing coach Cus D'Amato, Scott MacDonald, Suzette Lange, Laura Harrier as Robin Givens, plus Russell Hornsby as Don King. I'm definitely planning to fire this up when it's out on Hulu.

Hulu has cast its Iron Mike.

Hulu is standing firm with its Mike Tyson biopic series despite a few jabs from the former world champion boxer.
In February, the streamer revealed it had ordered eight-episode series Iron Mike from I, Tonya screenwriter Steven Rogers and director Craig Gillespie with Margot Robbie exec producing and Mixed-ish’s Karin Gist set as showrunner and exec producer.
The series is set to explore the wild, tragic and controversial life and career of heavyweight champion Tyson – one of the most polarizing figures in sports culture.
However, a few hours after the announcement, Tyson accused the Disney-owned network of “cultural misappropriation” and said it was “tone-deaf” to announce particularly during Black History Month.
