During their acclaimed new run of Wolverine, writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Martín Cóccolo have introduced the looming threat of the Adamantine, an ancient primal force who’s been tracking down and controlling villains enhanced by Adamantium.
After fighting his way through Lady Deathstrike, Cyber and more, Wolverine was recently confronted with Adamantine's golden-armoured champion, Romulus.
Romulus, the mastermind villain who manipulated Wolverine's tragic life for decades, is back, and his brutal battle with Wolverine in this week's Wolverine #7 revealed Adamantine's lore-shattering history and the scope of its revenge. This explosive first arc concludes next month in Wolverine #8, the milestone 400th issue of Wolverine.
As you can see below, the highly anticipated landmark issue features a variant cover by superstar artist Simone Bianchi, who co-created Romulus alongside Jeph Loeb in Wolverine: Origins. Bianchi's artwork captures Romulus at his most ferocious as he takes on both Wolverines in his pursuit of Adamantine's divine power.

Quick LinksRomulus Brought Back An Old Character With New DangersThe Horrors Revealed Left Behind A Glaring QuestionWill Alien: Earth Be Able to Tackle This Explanation?
After Ridley Scott's Prometheus duology within the Alien franchise explained some aspects of the xenomorph's origins, fans felt it was due time to bring the beloved space horror series back to basics. Alien: Romulus did just that and revived the Alien franchise with the grime, grit, and horror that was missing in the exposition of the prequels. Romulus tackled a new scenario with the echoing foreboding of an all-too-familiar ship's ruins being rediscovered. With a cast of brand new characters, audiences could rediscover the horror as well as new mysteries being revealed.
As it is with most Alien films, some questions and the potential for their answers are always lost in the chase for survival, and Alien: Romulus' plot is no exception. Half of...

Deadpool & Wolverine opened with Wade Wilson pulling off some impressive dance moves to the tune of Nsync's "Bye Bye Bye." However, it wasn't Ryan Reynolds in the suit; instead, dancer Nick Pauley took on the role of the McU's "Dancepool."
During Sunday's 97th Academy Awards, host Conan O'Brien performed "I Won't Waste Time" and was accompanied on stage by Dune: Part Two's Sandworm and Deadpool & Wolverine's titular Merc with the Mouth.
The Marvel Studios movie didn't receive a single nomination - much to the chagrin of many comic book fans - but Deadpool's cameo felt like an acknowledgement of what a positive impact the threequel made to theaters in 2024.
Now, Pauley has taken to Instagram to confirm he once again donned the suit for the Oscars. He also credited Ryan Reynolds for advocating that he be the one who hit the stage as "Dancepool."

Mikey Madison was already starting to get a lot of attention thanks to her lead performance in Sean Baker's Anora, but Sunday's surprise Best Actress Oscar win is certain to make the 25-year-old a highly in-demand star in Hollywood.
Major studios are sure to have reached out already, and we're now hearing that Madison could be in line to play a character in an upcoming Marvel Studios project.
We don't have much to go on, but scooper Daniel Richtman is reporting that Madison is "being considered" for an MCU role.
It's always worth keeping in mind that Marvel Studios meets with and reaches out to a lot of talent (it might be quicker to list the people that haven't been up for a part at one point or another), so this is far from a guarantee that Madison is even in talks with the studio.
Even so, there's already...

This article contains a brief mention of abuse.
From action films like Pacific Rim Uprising to subtle dramas like Priscilla, Cailee Spaeny continues to experiment with a variety of challenging roles. In her latest movie,Alien: Romulus, the actress has showcased her potential to lead an iconic franchise. One of the most engaging aspects of Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus is the young cast. It evolves the franchise for modern viewers while showing nostalgics that different narratives can be told. In this case, it's a group of young scavengers who run into Xenomorphs rather than seasoned soldiers and experienced scientists.
This approach speaks to the wonder and inquisitive nature of youth. At the core of Romulus is Cailee Spaeny's Rain, who just wants a fresh start. As expected, Spaeny delivers range and impressive nods to Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley. She's certainly a character that sequels can be built around.

It's a good time to be a fan of the Alien franchise. After last year's incredibly successful Alien: Romulus, written and directed by Fede Álvarez, a sequel was greenlit with the director returning to continue the story of Rain Carradine (Cailee Spaeny). Besides a Romulus sequel to look forward to, the Xenomorphs are also set to bring all their slimy terror onto small screens with Alien: Earth, the first-ever Alien television series being developed for FX on Hulu. Many of the series' details have been kept under wraps, with only a couple of short and ambiguous teasers released to keep the hype going. We got our first look at some actual footage from the series during the Academy Awards, and it's been uploaded online for all to see.

Last night's Academy Awards show was a relatively scandal free affair, but one particular joke did result in some gasps from the celeb-filled audience in attendance.
At one point, O'Brien introduced the heroic members of the LA Fire Department who battled this year’s devastating Palisades and Eaton wildfires, and used the opportunity to slip in a few of his... harsher gags.
“Now, I know you’re going to find this hard to believe, but there are some jokes even I’m not brave enough to tell,” said the host before adding. “On behalf of myself, would you please read what’s in the prompter? Remember — everyone in this audience has to laugh; these are heroes!”

The Academy Awards took place yesterday evening and, as per usual, the results have split opinions. Anora was the surprise Best Picture winner, with Wicked and Conclave failing to keep the momentum going following other recent award ceremonies.
Conan O'Brien hosted this year's and his performance of "I Won't Waste Time" was accompanied by surprise appearances from Dune: Part Two's Sandworm and Deadpool & Wolverine's Dancepool.
We don't know who was in the suit, though the Merc with the Mouth - who O'Brien reminded us wasn't among the nominees - pulled off some familiar Backstreet Boys-inspired dance moves before making his exit.
Ryan Reynolds initially embarked on a pretty robust "FYC" campaign for Deadpool & Wolverine, though it quickly lost momentum. The movie, which was a box office hit, wasn't exactly considered a critical darling with 78% on Rotten Tomatoes.
You may recall that were was some chatter about Reynolds...

Anora picks up five Oscars, in a surprisingly mixed Oscars 2025. Here’s the run down of what won and what didn’t.
Well, the Oscars has happened again, and perhaps now we can all get back to normal for a while.
This year’s statuette season was interesting enough given that there was no clear frontrunner like last year, when Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer dominated the awards race from start to finish. Still, set against the backdrop of the the hugely destructive Californian wildfires, it still all seemed a little superfluous at times. Meanwhile, The Brutalist director Brady Corbet provided an insight into the state of the non-blockbuster film business when he revealed that not being paid for being on a months-long awards trail meant he was living hand to mouth.
Still, fancy garments were donned and some statuettes were duly dished out and the 2025 Oscars.

After a chaotic and, at times unpredictable awards season, it all came down to this –– the big show. Hosted by Conan O'Brien, the 97th Academy Awards happened Sunday evening in Los Angeles, and Anora emerged as Best Picture.
With a surprising sweep of several major categories –– also including Best Director, Original Screenplay and Editing for filmmaker Sean Baker (who becomes the first person to win four Oscars in one night) and a somewhat surprising win for star Mikey Madison over Demi Moore –– Anora became the little indie that could.
This was a year that the academy members chose to spread the Oscar love –– The Brutalist's Adrien Brody was named Best Actor, while Lol Crawley won Cinematography and Daniel Blumberg's score saw him take the stage for an emotional, nervous speech.
Wicked, meanwhile, won Costume Design and Production Design, Dune 2 took Sound and Visual Effects, while Emilia Pérez' Zoe...

The 97th Academy Awards ceremony has just finished up, and we have a full list of winners in all the major categories below.
The Oscars very rarely recognize superhero/comic book movies, but 2024 was a particularly bad year for the genre, so it was hardly surprising when even what would be widely regarded as the best of the bunch, Deadpool and Wolverine, didn't receive any nominations - though some feel the block-busting Marvel Studios team-up should have picked up a few in the technical categories.
Several movies we have covered were nominated in major categories, however, including Dune: Part Two, The Substance, and Wicked (all for Best Picture). In the end, though, it was Anora that wound up taking home surprise wins for Best Picture, Director (Sean Baker) and Best Actress (Mikey Madison).

Through 2024’s Alien: Romulus, filmmaker Fede Alvarez introduced audiences to an entirely new story with plenty of fresh faces. Ditching the characters of yesteryear — specifically Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley — the Evil Dead helmer allowed a new wing of the universe to form, giving fans a brand-new leading lady to cheer for in Cailee Spaeny’s Rain Carradine. Still, those who have seen the sci-fi horror film will know that a familiar face from Alien popped by in a sort-of cameo capacity. We are, of course, talking about the late Ian Holm, whose likeness appeared as Rook — an android who shares the same face and functionalities as the actor’s Alien character, Ash. For those of us who caught Romulus during its opening weekend, it’s likely that we went into it blind, not knowing about Holm’s posthumous return to the franchise. And, according to Alvarez, the secrecy surrounding Rook was a lengthy process,...

Saladin Ahmed’s Wolverine gave Logan a new antagonist while mixing in some of his older ones too. In the first issue, Cyber tried to kill Logan, losing so badly that he ran. As Cyber licks his wounds, he’s possessed by an elder being that turns his adamantium gold after calling it "false metal." Later, the same thing happens to Constricter, Donald Pierce, and Lady Deathstrike. Alien: Romulus will be getting a sequel sometime in the future, but per producer Michael Pruss, it may not be a direct sequel to Fede Álvarez's 2024 movie. Even though the film made more than $350 million at the box office and was acclaimed by critics, those behind the Alien IP are thinking about maybe taking the franchise in another direction.
Alien: Romulus was one of the outstanding horror movies of 2024. It is also one of the best movies of the Alien universe, a franchise filled with films that aren't always well received by audiences and critics. In the movie, Cailee Spaeny plays Rain Carradine, a miner on a dark star who's offered the opportunity to escape to another planet that's not under the control of the Weyland-Yutani corporation. Rain and her brother Andy only have to join a group of other miners, and find the pods that will allow them to arrive at Yvaga III.

“It Would Be Nice To Go Further”: Fede Álvarez Teases “Uncharted Waters” for ‘Alien: Romulus’ Sequel
After numerous hit-or-miss movies working their way into the franchise, Alien fans finally hit a home run over the summer thanks to Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus. Grossing a staggering $350.9 million at the global box office, the movie quickly became one of the biggest titles of the year. With a storyline that introduced plenty of fresh faces to the fold and gave audiences a new final girl to cheer for, the Evil Dead helmer’s dip into the otherworldly universe first explored by Ridley Scott was a gargantuan success. The movie was such a profitable, well-received piece of art that its home studio, 20th Century Studios, pressed the “go” button on a sequel just a few months after Romulus roared into theaters. With Álvarez attached to return as the helmer, the title is trucking along under the director’s watchful eye.

Star Trek never showed the full aftermath of one of the franchise's greatest tragedies that profoundly affected Ambassador Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). Although there have been several major disasters throughout Star Trek's vast timeline, few cataclysmic events were as devastating as the Romulan supernova that took place in 2387. Starfleet mounted a massive rescue effort upon learning of the supernova, but the rescue armada was mostly destroyed when rogue synths attacked the Utopia Planitia shipyards on Mars. Starfleet then called off the rescue effort and went on the defensive.
Introduced in Star Trek: The Original Series, the Romulans have long been enemies of the United Federation of Planets, and the devastating Romulan supernova altered the balance of power in Star Trek's galaxy. A disaster like this should have affected everyone in the Beta Quadrant, the Federation, and neighboring star systems, but the Romulan supernova...

2024 was a great year for science fiction movies, with several exciting additions. Although there were some original stories, most of the new releases were follow-ups to pre-existing IPs which did very well at the box office. One of them was Alien: Romulus.
The film marks the seventh addition to the Alien franchise and was set between the events of 1979's Alien and 1986's Aliens. Fede Álvarez directed the film, which starred Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu. Following its worldwide release on Disney+ on Jan. 15, Alien: Romulus topped the charts on the streaming service on the global charts, FlixPatrol reports.

Alien: Romulus Director Fede Álvarez Says Planned Sequel Will Take Franchise Into "Uncharted Waters"
Alien: Romulus was a significant success at the box office while also proving to be a big hit with critics, so it wasn't exactly a huge surprise when 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell confirmed that early plans are in pace for a sequel last year.
Though director Fede Álvarez still hasn't officially signed on to return, it sounds like it's close to being a done deal. During a new interview with Empire, the filmmaker confirmed that he is in the process of working on the sequel's script, and promises that the movie will take the classic sci-fi horror franchise "into uncharted waters."
“Rodo [Sayagues, co-writer] and I are working on that right now. We’re excited about where it can go. We’ve almost checked all of the boxes of things that I want to see [in Romulus], and brought back a lot of the things I hadn’t seen in a while.

Alien: Romulus divided the Alien fan base but has since gained a cult following. Director Fede Álvarez says the follow-up film will venture into new places never before seen in the franchise.
Director Fede Álvarez says they're still developing the script for the Alien: Romulus sequel, which will expand Rain Carradine's story arc. "[Co-writer] Rodo [Sayagues] and I are working on that right now. We're excited about where it can go," he told Empire. That's great news for fans of Romulus, which was considered a return to form for the franchise. As a direct sequel to the Alien, Alien: Romulus adopted the tone and aesthetic of the Ridley Scott original. Alvarez's film also featured references to the broader Alien franchise, including the Alien vs. Predator games and Alien: Isolation.

Following the mixed to positive reviews of the Alien prequels, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, Fede Álvarez's newest entry in the franchise, Alien: Romulus, has helped to reestablish the sci-fi horror series as one of the best.
Set between the events of the first Alien movie and its sequel, Aliens, Romulus achieves the delicate balance of replicating some of the best moments in the original two films, while also creating plenty of new terrors for viewers to behold. From the practical effects to the riveting performances of the new characters at the story's center, Romulus set the bar high for what a new Alien film could bring to the table.

Fede Alvarez Says ‘Alien: Romulus’ Sequel Will Discover Things You’ve Never Seen from ‘Alien’ Before
The box office success of Alien: Romulus last year has given the franchise a fresh dose of new life, and director Fede Alvarez is currently hard at work on cracking a sequel.

Fede Alvarez Wants To Try Something New With Alien Romulus Sequel: ‘We Can Go Into Uncharted Waters’
With Alien: Romulus, director Fede Alvarez aimed to make something that neatly slotted between Alien and Aliens – returning to the original two classics, while also liberally referencing everything from Alien: Resurrection and Prometheus, to the beloved Alien: Isolation video game. As a result, his film brought new characters and variations on the Alien mythology – but was all about capturing that legendary iconography anew.
If a Romulus sequel does happen, though, it seems Alvarez plans to go in the opposite direction – taking Alien somewhere more unexpected. “Rodo [Sayagues, co-writer] and I are working on that right now,” the filmmaker tells Empire. “We’re excited about where it can go. We’ve almost checked all of the boxes of things that I want to see [in Romulus], and brought back a lot of the things I hadn’t seen in a while. When the sequel to Alien: Romulus continues Rain and Andy’s adventures, it can do something with the xenomorphs that no previous Alien movie has done. 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell has confirmed that a sequel to Alien: Romulus is in development. They’re in talks with Fede Álvarez to return as the director, and it seems as though Asbell recognizes what worked so well the first time. He wants to continue the story of Rain and Andy, the sole survivors played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, and see where their intergalactic journey takes them next.
The reason why Alien: Romulus worked so well is that the audience genuinely cared about the characters. Rain’s fierce protectiveness of her android brother made her easy to root for. Spaeny proved to be every bit the badass action hero that Sigourney Weaver was before her, and Jonsson’s endearing awkwardness...

Alien: Romulus makes a big reveal with Kay's offspring baby, and while Robert Bobroczkyi may not be a recognizable name, he play's the movie's most memorable role. In a movie full of bold choices and twists, director Fede Álvarez saves one of the biggest, literally, until last. Alien: Romulus' ending builds upon Kay's (Isabela Merced) decision to inject herself with the mysterious black goo, transforming the human baby growing inside her into something new. She gives birth to a baby who initially looks mostly human, albeit with some similarities to the Engineers, but comes out of a xenomorph egg.
The reveal of Alien: Romulus' new xenomorph hybrid is a surprise, especially as the offspring grows and transforms into its final form. The pale white skin, clawed fingers and toes, tail, and more make the human-alien a terrifying new addition to the franchise mythology. Although portions of the offspring are done using CGI,...

And the Golden Globes are a wrap. Overall, it was a fast-paced show, with Emilia Pérez, Shogun, Hacks and The Brutalist the night’s big winners. There were some nice surprises, with Sebastian Stan getting an unexpected nod for A Different Man and Demi Moore winning for The Substance. Otherwise, efficiency was the philosophy of the night, although outside of Vin Diesel’s pointed “Hey Dwayne,” there weren’t many memorable moments, with host Nikki Glaser’s opening monologue playing fairly safe outside of one zinger aimed at Ben Affleck that got some decent laughs. After host Jo Koy got into some hot water for a few very mild jokes last year, Glaser avoided anything too controversial. Political jokes were kept to a minimum (outside of a mild dig at Rfk Jr), with even P Diddy only getting the mildest treatment. If anyone was expecting a repeat of her Roast of Tom Brady jokes,...

Adamantium is the nearly unbreakable metal grafted onto Wolverine’s skeleton. It’s what makes him practically invincible, and is why his claws are so deadly. Wolverine can cut through an army of armored soldiers like they’re made of wet tissue paper, all while their attacks basically bounce right off of him. Sure, his healing factor and heightened senses help him in battle scenarios as well, but it’s the adamantium that makes Wolverine the perfect living weapon that he is.
Given how integral adamantium has become to Wolverine’s personal story and power set, one would assume that it's something that’s unique to him alone. However, that’s decidedly not the case. Not only have other heroes weaponized adamantium in the past, but villains have as well. More specifically, villains who would like nothing more than to see Wolverine dead. After a distinguished career in Starfleet and as an ambassador, Spock found himself hurled into an alternate universe, where his story eventually came to an end. In Star Trek: Defiant #21, Spock is seemingly aware of how he will die, making a prediction that will sadly come true.
Star Trek: Defiant #21 is written by Christopher Cantwell and drawn by Angel Unzueta. Spock has just helped Worf and the crew of the Defiant turn back a Romulan invasion of an agrarian world. As the dust settles, Spock reflects on the incident, and his life as a whole. Spock muses that we “burn on,” in a constant state of flux, even if we perceive it as static. Spock’s philosophical train ultimately arrives at...

Nothing is a coincidence when it comes to One Piece and foreshadowing, as Eiichiro Oda made sure of it with the multiple revelations and plot twists that were hinted at long back in the most subtle ways possible. The fanbase is always thinking about possible theories that could come true in the future, no matter how outlandish they sound. It’s actually hard not to, when there are so many unanswered mysteries but this theory about Red-Haired Shanks stands out.
The Emperor is known to be quite the enigma. It’s questionable if he’s a true ally to Luffy or someone working with the World Government in secret. His meeting with the Five Elders suggested the latter but what if Shanks isn’t an only child?

The Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category has been created as one of two honors new to the awards this year, and it includes films that have achieved significant box office success and widespread audience acclaim. To qualify, a film must have grossed at least $150 million worldwide, with a minimum of $100 million from the U.S. market, or have achieved comparable digital streaming viewership.
This has, of course, opened up the way for Marvel Studios...

The 2025 Golden Globes ceremony is set to be hosted by Nikki Glaser and will air live on CBS (and the Paramount+ streaming service) on Sunday, January 5th at 8pm Eastern – and this morning, the full list of nominations has been announced, letting us know who we’ll be seeing in the competition next month. While there has been a lot of talk about Anora being the favorite for Best Picture and other categories at the Academy Awards this year, and the film did earn several major Golden Globe nominations, it did not earn the most nominations in the film categories. That honor goes to Emilia Pérez – and it’s interesting that one of the first news articles I read this morning dealt with the fact that Selena Gomez had to speak up after Eugenio Derbez criticized her performance and her Spanish in the film (Gomez took six months of Spanish...
