No Country for Old Men, which earned the legendary Coen Brothers their first Best Picture Oscar, will be available to stream on Peacock on April 1. Based on the novel of the same name by Corman McCarthy, No Country for Old Men follows Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin), a hunter who stumbles upon a drug deal gone wrong in and two million dollars enclosed in a briefcase in the Texas desert. After deciding to take the briefcase for himself, Llewelyn becomes ensnared in a deadly game of cat and mouse with a sociopathic hitman named Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem), a ruthless killer who is tasked with bringing back the money by any means necessary.

Written and directed by Peter Hastings, this delightfully manic animated comedy is based on the best-selling series of children’s graphic novels by Dav Pilkey. As such, the film is a spin-off, of sorts, from 2017’s Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, which was also based on Pilkey’s novels.

For a U-rated animated comedy, Dog Man has a surprisingly dark beginning. Indeed, it’s basically RoboCop, only instead of a cop and a robot, it’s a cop and his pet police dog (both voiced by Hastings). Sure enough, after an introduction to the crime-fighting pair, they are suddenly caught in an explosion, after which a nurse looks at their mangled bodies and says, “What if we sew the dog’s head onto the man’s body?...

Per Variety, DreamWorks Animation's Dog Man is still dominating the box office in its second weekend in theaters, even in spite of the releases of both the action comedy Love Hurts starring Ke Huy Quan and director Josh Ruben's new slasher comedy, Heart Eyes. While Heart Eyes has already brought in over $3.7 million in preview screenings and Friday showings, that only barely outpaced Dog Man's second Friday earnings of $3.2 million. Preview screenings and Friday showings of Love Hurts brought in $2.6 million, with forecasts for the weekend putting it at around $6 million, whereas Dog Man is on track to pass earnings of over $54 million within its first ten days, giving it an $18 million projection for its second weekend in theaters.

When one thinks about it, Dog Man's story is messed up. It's the tale of a police officer and his dog who are injured in the line of duty, leading to the brilliant and scientifically implausible idea of stitching the dog's head onto the man's body so both may continue to serve and protect the public. Essentially a children-friendly Robocop minus the consumerism satire, Frankenstein monstering its hero into Man's best law enforcement friend. But then again, author Dav Pilkey has long walked a fine line between absurdist and playfully juvenile, delighting young readers everywhere with his Captain Underpants, Ricky Ricotta, and yes, the long-running Dog Man series for years.

Max has canceled its animated series Velma after two seasons. The show’s second season debuted in April, and a Halloween special that premiered on Oct. 3 marks the final outing for the show.

Velma, created by Charlie Grandy (The Office, The Mindy Project), is a more adult-oriented prequel/reimagining of the brainy Scooby-Doo character. Mindy Kaling (who’s also an executive producer) voices Velma, who’s haunted by the disappearance of her mother and dealing with the perils of being a teenager along with solving mysteries.
