Sandra Bullock is a proud mother of two, and she is very much focused on taking care of her children now more than ever. The actress never had biological children, but that doesn’t take away the fact that she loves her adopted son and daughter unconditionally.

The actress had a prolific career from the ’90s to the late 2010s so it isn’t difficult to see why she chose to focus on work and put the idea of settling down on the back burner.

Former WGA East president Michael Winship, running unopposed, will be the guild’s next president, succeeding Beau Willimon, who’s not seeking re-election after four years in office. House of Cards creator Willimon led the guild through the WGA’s historic legal battle that reshaped the talent agency business.
Winship, an award-winning news and documentary writer, led the guild during the tumultuous 2007-08 writers strike, serving as president for five consecutive two-year terms – starting just before the strike and ending in 2017. He returned to guild politics in 2018, winning a seat on its Council. He won an Emmy and three WGA Awards writing for three different Bill Moyers shows, as well as the WGA East’s Richard B. Jablow Award for service to the guild.
Lisa Takeuchi Cullen, who has served on the Council since 2016 — and was last year’s recipient of the Richard B. Jablow Award — will be the guild’s next vice president.

Leaders of the Writers Guild of America have told members that the guild will press on in its legal battle with Wme, CAA and UTA over packaging fees in the wake of a federal judge’s decision to dismiss most of the guild’s lawsuit against the talent agencies.
The WGA sent a message to members Tuesday, a day after U.S. District Judge Andre Birotte dismissed eight of the 14 claims brought by the WGA in its countersuit, including claims that packaging fees amount to illegal kickbacks and were a form of racketeering.
In a message sent to members by the WGA’s agency negotiating committee and the WGA West board of directors, guild leaders emphasized that the claims involving breach of fiduciary duty and price-fixing among agencies over packaging fees were allowed to proceed and will be the crux of the guild’s case. Leaders of the Writers Guild of America have told members that they may need to extend to current contract beyond its current May 1 expiration due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Members received the message on Tuesday afternoon, a day after Variety reported that the WGA was evaluating its options for conducting contract talks with Hollywood’s major studios that were to have started on March 23. The coronavirus prevention measures appear to have made it untenable for the sides to hold a face-to-face bargaining session.
The WGA and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers are trying to come to terms on an extension date for the guild’s existing Minimum Basic Agreement that covers most film and TV work. The Writers Guild of America on Friday tapped more than 30 members to serve on the guild’s negotiating committee for the upcoming contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
The current three-year collective bargaining agreement, which covers most of the work done by WGA writers, is set to expire on May 1, 2020.
The looming contract negotiations have been a source of much anxiety in Hollywood as fears of a potential strike have bubbled in recent months. The negotiations are especially interesting for the WGA, which is still in a stand off with Hollywood talent agencies over how they are represented and the packaging fees agents collect for bundling talent together for networks and studios.

The WGA has appointed the members to its negotiating committee in the run-up to its talks with management’s Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers for a new film and TV contract. See the list below.
The current pact expires on May 1. No date has been set for the talks to begin, and it’s not clear whether the WGA will begin bargaining before the Directors Guild, whose contract doesn’t expire until two months later. In years past, the DGA has gone first, reaching deals that have set the pattern of bargaining for the WGA and SAG-AFTRA to follow.
In the upcoming WGA talks, WGA West executive director David Young will serve as the guild’s chief negotiator, with Michele Mulroney, Shawn Ryan and Betsy Thomas serving as co-chairs. With Hollywood already fearing a strike, the Writers Guild of America has appointed more than two dozen members to serve on its negotiating committee for upcoming negotiations on its master contract.
The current three-year deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) expires on May 1. The guild’s seven-month standoff with agencies has heightened worries that the WGA will go on strike after the contract expires.
The WGA is required to seek approval of its “pattern of demands” before meeting with the companies. WGA West executive director David Young, who orchestrated the bitter 2007-08 strike, will serve as chief negotiator. Michele Mulroney, Shawn Ryan and Betsy Thomas are the co-chairs.
Notable names on the committee include “Crazy Rich Asians” writer Adele Lim; Meredith Stiehm, one of the plaintiffs in the WGA’s suit over the legality of CAA, UTA and Wme charging packaging fees; Patric Verrone, who...

Beau Willimon, running unopposed, has been re-elected president of the WGA East. His slate of running mates, all of whom support the guild’s five-month-long battle with the talent agencies, also were elected. They include The Deuce co-creator David Simon, an outspoken critic of the agencies’ business practices, who was re-elected to one of six open freelance seats on the guild’s Council.
The election sweep is further evidence that WGA members remain solidly behind their leaders’ efforts to reshape the agenting business by banning packaging fees and agency affiliations with corporately related production entities. The guild, as is its practice, did not release any vote totals, other than to say that 21.32% of its 5,919 eligible members voted.
Their victory comes just three days after WGA West president David A. Goodman and his running mates, who also support the agency campaign, swept their election. Goodman called his slate’s lopsided victory...

Beau Willimon, the playwright and showrunner who launched Netflix’s “House of Cards,” has been re-elected without opposition to a two-year term as president of the Writers Guild of America East.
Willimon also ran unopposed in 2017 to succeed Michael Winship. Kathy McGee was elected to the vice president slot over Phil Pilato. Secretary-treasurer Bob Schneider ran unopposed and was re-elected.
Incumbents Bonnie Datt, Courtney Simon, David Simon and Amy Sohn were re-elected as freelance members of the WGA East council along with Josh Gondelman and Dru Johnston. Incumbents Kim Kelly, Hamilton Nolan and Pilato were re-elected as staff members on the council.
All of the winning WGA East candidates were endorsed by Willimon’s Unity slate, which supported the guild strategy in the agency fight. About 21% of eligible voters cast ballots.
The announcement comes with the WGA locked in a heated standoff with Hollywood agents over the issues of how agents represent WGA members.

Now that the WGA West election is over – with President David A. Goodman and all of his running mates sweeping to victory – the WGA East election is set to conclude on Thursday, with President Beau Willimon, running unopposed, and his Unity Slate poised to carry the day as well.

Willimon and his Unity Slate all support the WGA’s demands to end agency packaging fees and affiliations with corporately related production entities – and the WGA’s edict that all of members must fire their agents who refuse to sign its new agency Code of Conduct. Indeed, the...

Good Friday has put Hollywood on pause for tomorrow, but today the Writers Guild said it has a very big Easter delivery for the uberagencies coming on Monday.
It’s been nearly a week after talks completely broke down between the WGA and the Association of Talent Agents over the new anti-packaging Agency Code of Conduct and scribes started pink-slipping their agents as the Guild leadership instructed. And today the Negotiating Committee sent a memo to members with news about some big numbers and big names.
Claiming that “over 92% of the members who signed the Statement of Support have already fulfilled their pledge and signed letters terminating their unfranchised agencies,” the memo warns the Ata that a forest full of official letters will be arriving at the likes of UTA, CAA, ICM Partners and Wme on April 22. The WGA and the ATA have averted — at least temporarily — a looming crisis and they have agreed to push tonight’s midnight deadline five days to try and figure out a compromise. Sources said that the agents initiated a meeting with WGA that lasted three and led to an extension as their 43-year-old franchise agreement was set to expire at midnight. The new deadline is Friday.
Numerous members of the WGA negotiating committee were away including Chris Keyser, and sources said that on the WGA side were David Young, Mike Schur, Michelle Mulroney and David Shore. Meeting for the Ata and the agencies were Wme’s Rick Rosen, CAA’s Bryan Lourd, UTA’s Jay Sures, who reportedly helped organize the sit-down, and Apa’s Jim Gosnell, who serves as Ata President.

Nothing Stays The Same: The Story of The Saxon Pub functions as both a local interest story and something deserving of greater attention. The battle to keep Austin weird is very real as skyrocketing property values and a tech boom have priced out artists that have been responsible for making the city what it is. The story, thankfully, has a happy ending as one of the film’s executive producers, Greg Keller–a real estate agent who feels partly responsible for “selling Austin”–decides to preserve its funkiness.
Directed by Jeff Sandmann, Nothing Stays The Same is a minor documentary with excellent, occasionally transcendent performances by Austin luminaries like Bob Schneider, The Resentments, and Patrice Pike who graced the stage of the South Lamar Boulevard pub. Those of that have been making the trek to Austin for SXSW for the last ten years know have rapidly that neighborhood has changed.

This is an article about the second issue of the avant-garde arts zine Idiolects. An article on the first issue can be read here.
For a small publication with no advertising to support it, publishing on a quarterly basis was an ambitious and impressive achievement for Idiolects. This second issue covers avant-garde happenings in New York City from August to November 1976, primarily film, but not exclusively.
While again there is special thanks given to the Collective for Living Cinema in issue #2’s indicia, there’s no indication that the Collective was providing financial support. The first issue had a cover price of 10 cents, but the second issue has no price and offers a complicated subscription scheme where potential subscribers are invited to send in whatever amount they want that Idiolects would deduct the price for each issue until subscribers’ accounts reach zero.
This issue also actively encourages submissions from authors...

In 1976, a crudely published fanzine devoted to the experimental film scene made its debut. It was called Idiolects and the first issue offered a definition of its name: “An idiolect is the language of an individual at a particular time.” That definition certainly could be applied to both the filmmakers covered in the zine and to the writers who contributed articles.
Although not an official publication of New York City’s Collective for Living Cinema screening society, Idiolects was closely tied to the organization, offering a “temporary” publication address of 52 White Street, New York, 10013 in the indicia. That was the Collective’s then permanent screening space in 1976 after having bopped around Manhattan for several years prior.
In addition, the Living Cinema was formed in the early 1970s by students who had studied filmmaking at Binghamton University in upstate New York and then moved to New York City. While Idiolects #1 gives no clear main editorial voice,...

"It's crazy," Rachael Ray said of her eighth annual Feedback Party at South By Southwest. "It's like a double Christmas."
ETonline was with the TV host and chef at this year's Ray-hosted event, where fans braved the rain for a full afternoon of live music, free food and plenty of drinks at Stubb's BBQ in Austin.
Ray has become something of a tastemaker at the annual music fest, where she's previously played host to then-little known bands like Imagine Dragons, Of Monsters and Men, The Civil Wars, and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. This year, Esmz made their triumphant return to the Feedback Party for the first time since 2009.
Watch: Even John Legend Got In on the SXSW Action
"It's just amazing and we have such an eclectic lineup this year," Ray said. Among the artists on the 2015 docket were Cody Simpson, Raekwon, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, Delta Spirit, Jeff The Brotherhood, The Districts...

Austin is called the "Live Music Capital of the World," and a very large influence on it was singer/songwriter Stephen Bruton. In 2007, only a week after completing his treatment for throat cancer and in his final appearance on stage, Bruton led his band through a four-hour, 38-song "Road to Austin" performance in front of 20,000 fans. Director Gary Fortin covers the concert and history of the Austin music scene from 1835 to today in Road to Austin, which premiered at SXSW 2014.
Beginning with Kris Kristofferson and John Paul DeJoria relating their experiences, Fortin weaves photos and film footage from the earliest days of Austin into a vivid tapestry. Artists recount tales of legendary venues, some now gone, including Threadgill's, Antone's, the Armadillo World Headquarters, Broken Spoke, Continental Club and Saxon Pub.

Here's the latest Austin and Texas film news.
Austin filmmaker and Hammer to Nail editor Michael Tully is joining with Ion Cinema founder Eric Lavallee to found the American Independent Film Awards, which will honor "micro-budget" indies starting in 2015. Local filmmaker Bob Byington (Somebody Up There Likes Me) is planning to shoot his feature Seven Chinese Brothers in Austin in the next couple of months, according to The Austin Chronicle. The cast will include Jason Schwartzman, Tunde Adebimpe and Olympia Dukakis -- no word yet on whether Bob Schneider will play a wedding singer (as in Byington's previous two movies). Byington says he wrote the script in 2001, and received an Austin Film Society Grant in 2010 for the film.Louis Black, co-founder of SXSW and The Austin Chronicle, will serve as executive producer on Django Lives!, the sequel to the original Spaghetti Western Django. SXSW announced its film lineup today, which is full of all kinds of features and documentaries. The big splashy Hollywood news is that the movie 21 Jump Street, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, will premiere at the fest as its Centerpiece Film. In addition, the closing-night film will be the music documentary Big Easy Express from Emmett Malloy.
One marquee movie with a Texas connection is the Dallas-set Killer Joe, reuniting Bug filmmaker William Friedkin and playwright Tracy Letts, and starring Matthew McConaughey (and that's not the only film he's in that will play SXSW). Other notable movies playing the fest include Bobcat Goldthwait's God Bless America, the Will Ferrell-starring Casa de mi Padre and Guy Maddin's Keyhole ... among many many others announced.
SXSW Film has no Lone Star States category this year, but the overall lineup of narrative and documentary features includes many local and state connections.

In the middle of Harmony and Me is a very telling line of dialogue. Harmony (Justin Rice) is struggling through a piano lesson, and his teacher (Jeremy Pollet) aptly sums up Harmony's playing style and personality: "You're entangled in your dedication to precision."
Indeed he is. A quintessential Austin indie, Harmony and Me -- available today on DVD and streaming through the movie's website -- is the story of the title character, a less-than-lovable loser who can't let go of his ex-girlfriend, Jessica (Kristen Tucker). His obsession with her has gone from merely pathetic to thoroughly annoying, as he subjects his family, friends, co-workers and anyone else who will listen to his hopeless pining and incessant analyses of the relationship. Despite everyone's gentle suggestions to get over it already, Harmony isn't about to move on.
Then again, Harmony's fixation on the lovely Jessica is may be understandable (albeit completely irritating...

Let's see what's afoot in the Austin-related film news this week.
Local filmmaker Bob Byington's film Rso [Registered Sex Offender] is now available online as a "pay what you like" movie. You watch the first "chapter" of the comedy for free, then get access to the rest after you donate some amount of money through PayPal. You also can buy the DVD for $10 (including shipping) at that link. The cast includes Kevin Corrigan (whom I just saw in Please Give), local filmmakers Andrew Bujalski and Richard Linklater, and musician Bob Schneider, who also appeared in Byington's film Harmony and Me. Well, we were slacking a bit (thus the name) and missed the first screening in the new Austin Film Society Essential Cinema series: "A Summer of Restoration: Selections from Milestone Films." However, the series runs through August 7, so there are still plenty of movies to enjoy. The movies are screening on Saturdays at noon at Alamo Ritz.

As if Robert Rodriguez were not busy enough, with Predators being released to theaters in July and Machete in September, he's also directed a music video. The filmmaker helped out another Austinite, musician Bob Schneider, and shot a video in one weekend of "40 Dogs {Like Romeo and Juliet)" from Schneider's latest album, Lovely Creatures. Rodriguez recruited an actress from his recent film Shorts for the video -- Kat Dennings, who has also starred in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and Charlie Bartlett. One of Rodriguez's sons also makes his first onscreen appearance.
The video is now available to watch online after the jump (via IFC). In addition, on the same webpage as the video, you can read an interview with Rodriguez and Schneider -- how they ended up collaborating, where they shot the video, and questions about music. For those who prefer to watch music videos on television, IFC will...

Sandra Bullock is one of the world's most popular, most recognizable and longest-lasting movie stars. She arrived on July 26, 1964, as Sandra Annette Bullock, the daughter of opera singer Helga Meyer and voice coach and Pentagon contractor John Bullock. Though she was born in Arlington, Virginia, Bullock actually grew up in Nuremberg, Germany, where she first dipped her toes in the entertainment waters by studying vocal arts and ballet dancing, and appearing (briefly) in some of her mother's shows. She returned to the States in the mid-70's, attending high school and then going to college at East Carolina University in North Carolina, but she exited before graduation in order to chase her acting dream. It wasn't long before Bullock -- initially based in New York City -- started to find work. She landed a role in the back-door pilot Bionic Showdown: The Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman...

The latest film from Bob Byington, Harmony and Me, had a five-night run in Austin this week after a very successful tour of film festivals. You may remember Bob Byington won the Stanley Kubrick Award for Bold and Innovative Filmmaking at Traverse City Film Festival last year, where Harmony and Me and his previous film, Rso [Registered Sex Offender] played. Harmony and Me is a very funny movie about a guy (Justin Rice) who is mourning his recent breakup with the fervor of a drama queen, while at the same time learning to integrate music more into his life. The cast also includes Kevin Corrigan, Alex Karpovsky and Nick Offerman.
One of Harmony's piano lessons occurs during his older brother's wedding reception, when the wedding singer teaches him to play one of his songs. The wedding singer is played by Austin musician Bob Schneider, and the song he teaches Harmony is the lovely "Changing Your Mind.
