In the late '70s and '80s, audiences were obsessed with the TV show "Dallas," prime time western soap opera about the Ewings. The series became so popular that the network CBS began developing a spin-off centered around one of the Ewings we saw very little of in the original series.
The new project -- titled "Knots Landing" -- followed Ted Shackelford's Gary Ewing and his wife Valene (Joan Van Ark) after they moved to a suburban neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. We recently checked back in with the cast of the 1978 series "Dallas" to see where they ended up after all these years. But that stroll down memory lane got us thinking -- what happened to the cast of "Knots Landing" after the show was over?

Here’s a fun fact to blow your minds: Yes, technically, Knots Landing is a spin-off from mega-hit Dallas. Gary Ewing is the middle brother of Jr and Bobby Ewing, who made one appearance on the Mother Ship show, played by David Ackroyd before Ted Shackelford took over the role for the next decade-plus.
But the original Kl concept pre-dated Dallas. It was supposed to be an American version of the Swedish series Scenes From a Marriage by Ingemar Bergman. That series didn’t get picked up. But when CBS wanted a Dallas spin-off, Lorimar made one of the characters a Ewing, and we were off to the races! You can watch the entire series from the start right here on Amazon Prime. Here’s why you should definitely do that.

Knots Landing, an American primetime soap opera that aired from 1979-1993, is available for streaming and fans should easily be able to access the long-running series. The popular Texas-based soap opera Dallas ended up leading to a reboot in 2012, but it was spinning off shows long before that. In 1979, Knots Landing premiered on CBS. Set in a fictional coastal suburb of Los Angeles, Gary Ewing (Ted Shackelford) and his wife Valene "Val" Clements (Joan Van Ark), live in a cul-de-sac, Seaview Circle, alongside three other couples around their age.
Like Dallas, Knots Landing is filled with marital strife, murder, corporate intrigue, and all the other tropes that viewers come to soap operas for. Though Knots Landing didn't end up lasting as long as some of the most long-lived soap operas on television, it still had the notable accomplishment of running just as long as the show it was spun off from,...

There are people who’ll tell you that Japanese folklore fantasy Monkey airing at 6pm on Friday nights in the 1980s was the highpoint of post-school, pre-bedtime TV scheduling in the UK. Let’s not tell them that they’re wrong; let’s just pity them for having mistimed their childhood by a decade.
The 1990s were the real peak of the 6pm weeknight TV slot. As long as there was no Wimbledon, snooker, cricket, athletics or Horse of the Year Show, that’s where anyone too young to go to the pub found joy. While grown-ups were watching the Six O’Clock News, kids in households flush enough to have a second television switched on BBC Two or Channel 4. There, to quote Howard Carter upon breaking into Tutankhamun’s tomb, they found wonderful things.

To mark the 20th anniversary of Space Precinct, Kyle takes a walk down Demeter City's memory lane to explore the show's highs and lows…
Cops in space. It's a neat idea, right? The concept is rich with potential, but it's surprising just how underused it's been. Gerry Anderson first approached it back in 1986, when he made a pilot for Space Police, which failed to sell and so remained unaired. The show starred Shane Rimmer (the voice of Scott Tracy in Anderson's Thunderbirds), and followed the exploits of a human cop working amongst aliens. For whatever reason, this incarnation of the show never saw the light of day, and remained buried for eight years.
In 1994, the series resurfaced with a new title, new actors, new aliens, and a less comedic tone. Space Precinct 2040 was a standard police show – crimes are committed; our plucky heroes chase the perps down – but transferred to Demeter City,...

Dallas's emotional farewell to Larry Hagman airs in the UK next week on Channel 5.
The funeral for Jr Ewing will be the centrepiece for the second season's eighth episode, 'Jr's Masterpiece'. Jr was shot by a mystery killer in the previous episode, a nod to the famous 'Who shot Jr?' storyline from the 1980s incarnation of the show.
Following the death of Hagman at the end of 2012, producers and writers created a tribute to Hagman with the funeral episode.
The instalment features guest appearances from Ted Shackelford as Gary Ewing, Charlene Tilton as Lucy Ewing Cooper, Cathy Podewell as Cally Harper Ewing, Deborah Shelton as Mandy Winger and Steve Kanaly as Ray Krebbs.
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, and Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings also appear.
The rest of season two will centre around the new 'Who shot Jr?' mystery.

“I spend my whole life hating the man, and now I don’t know how to feel.” That’s Gary (Ted Shackelford), talking to the late, great, horrible J.R. Ewing’s brother, Bobby (Patrick Duffy), in last night’s Dallas, a farewell episode that put the old rascal to rest after 35 years of scheming. The viewer had no such ambivalence. J.R. was a great soap-opera villain — a cowboy-hatted Richard III in the show’s CBS incarnation, and a kind of malevolent King Lear on TNT’s 21st-century follow-up, older and slower but still formidable. It hurt to say good-bye to J.R. because he was always the liveliest character on the show, and because Larry Hagman — who died last November at 81 — played him with wicked wit and dark gravitas right up to the end stretch, during which the actor had few lines and often filmed sitting in a chair,...

New York — Who killed J.R.?
That's the mystery propelling "Dallas" through the rest of its second season as a TNT revival.
And that question hangs heavy in the upcoming episode (airing Monday at 9 p.m. Edt), which confirms the sad truth every viewer knew was coming: glorious scoundrel J.R. Ewing has died, after decades of living-on-the-edge infamy dating back at least to 1980, when he was gunned down in his office and left for dead, with "Who shot J.R.?" the question on every viewer's lips for months afterward.
J.R.'s fate was sealed this time by the intrusion of reality. In November, Larry Hagman died of cancer at 81. And when he died, he took J.R. with him.
So the new episode – surely the first without Hagman's deliciously vile presence – stands as a fitting tribute both to him and to J.R., complete with a wake and...
