Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam champion, has made her stance clear: she has not bleached her skin.
During a recent Instagram Live session, the 43-year-old tennis legend addressed persistent rumors and criticism about her skin tone. These rumors arose after a video of her attending a school event with her husband, Alexis Ohanian, and their daughters, Olympia and Adira, went viral.
Complexion Became A Hot Topic on Fun-Filled Family Instagram Live
In the video, Williams appeared to be having a great time with her family, but her complexion became a hot topic online.
Social media users speculated about changes to her skin tone, with one user writing, “What happened to her?” Another added, “she was a dark skinned black woman. Now? I don’t know wtf is going on.”
Williams took the opportunity to set the record straight during her live makeup tutorial for her cosmetics brand, Wyn Beauty.

It’s Been 23 Years Since Keanu Reeves Made Fans Cry With His $44 Million Worth Sports Drama Hardball
Sure, Keanu Reeves might be listed as one of the action connoisseurs in Hollywood today but let’s not forget the time when he had us bawling in the sports drama, Hardball. The film contains probably one of the saddest and most tragic deaths in cinema history, giving viewers a reminder that life is unpredictable.

New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge belted his 62nd home run of the season on Tuesday evening, setting a new, all-time record for the American League.
Judge’s milestone dinger came in an away game against the Texas Rangers, in the first inning opposite right-hander Jesus Tinoco. With the homer, the outfielder eclipsed the 61 mark set by Yankee great Roger Maris in October 1961.

The New York Yankees are hosting the Boston Red Sox for a four-game series, but this edition of the teams’ fierce rivalry has different stakes than usual.
Rather than win-loss records or the playoff race, the main focus this time will be whether Yankees slugger Aaron Judge sets an American League record for home runs. And, to the consternation of media watchers and many Yankee fans, tonight’s series opener will only be available on Apple TV+, not on the Yes Network or anywhere else on the linear TV dial.
Apple and Major League Baseball in March announced a multi-year deal for Friday Night Baseball, with the tech giant paying a reported 85 million per season for exclusive rights to stream the weekly showcase. Aaron Judge continued his pursuit of baseball’s (legitimate) home run record Tuesday night when the New York Yankees outfielder hit his 60th home run of the year, tying him with Babe Ruth’s mark and putting him within one long ball of matching Roger Maris’ Yankees and American League record.
Maris’ sons Roger Jr. and Kevin were on hand at Yankee Stadium Tuesday night for Judge’s 60th homer, which kicked off the team’s improbable comeback from a four-run 9th inning deficit to win 9-8 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

It’s the jarring thought many face each year on Emmy nominations day as shows receive their just plaudits in the noms: what happened to that great show I was just watching? The one everyone’s talking about right now. Why isn’t it nominated? It’s easy to forget that Emmy’s eligibility window comes to a close on May 31, ruling out from consideration any shows that premiere in the gap between June 1 and today’s nominations announcement.
Last year, the pre-noms head-scratchers were Emmy favorites like Stranger Things Season 3, Big Little Lies Season 2 and Euphoria, which all appear in this year’s nominations as a consequence of their June/July 2019 bows. And this year’s field is especially compounded by the global pandemic, which has led to the longest first phase for Emmy in recent memory. Rarely in recent memory has a TV show been so propitiously timed as “The Last Dance.” The 10-episode documentary series about the Michael Jordan-era Chicago Bulls premiered in May, weeks after the coronavirus pandemic caused the shutdown of all major live sports events, leaving fans bereft.
Into that void slipped “The Last Dance,” turning five straight Sunday nights into must-see events for large swathes of audiences quarantined at home. Over the course of its run, “The Last Dance” averaged 5.6 million viewers. And in seizing the moment, it’s becoming emblematic of a wave in sports documentary programming that has been building for years.
“It’s a funny time to celebrate any project and pat yourselves on the back, but I will say, I think it was the perfect project at a really specific point in time in our history,” says Libby Geist, vice president & executive producer, ESPN Films and Original Content.

For the last four decades or so, Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game has been preceded by the Home Run Derby. The sport’s best(-ish) sluggers step to the plate and launch long ball after long ball into stands of “ooo”-ing and “ahh”-ing spectators. While watching towering shots threaten to shatter the lights of the stadium makes for fleeting entertainment, the problem with the Home Run Derby is that the grandest of long balls only occur in the wild. Home runs are best appreciated in the context of a game, which often gains added meaning from a season-long marathon, or even a 100-year championship drought.
Look at Kirby Puckett’s 1991 World Series walk-off shot that set the table for a Twins’ title, or Kirk Gibson’s one-legged Game 1 bomb that, in his only plate appearance, launched the ’88 Dodgers to a pennant, or even Kyle Schwarber, the greatest...

"Watching those two guys - it was poetry." ESPN has debuted the first official trailer for a baseball history documentary titled Long Gone Summer, another impressive ESPN "30 For 30" feature film offering from the big sports network. Director Aj Schnack takes viewers back to the landmark 1998 baseball season – its tremendous highlights, massive impact, and undeniable complications. Mark McGwire of the Cardinals and Sammy Sosa of the Cubs competed against each other in the 1998 season to beat the home run record. With a musical score composed by Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, the doc film is a journey back through time that recalls how "seismic and emotional the story was – even as the legitimacy of the accomplishments at its center would later be called into question." Sadly, it was later discovered both of them used performance-enhancing drugs, but this still was an exciting and wild time in baseball's past. Check out the footage below.

I wouldn't exactly call myself a baseball fan, but even I was mesmerized by the home run derby between sluggers Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa in the summer of 1998, when I was just 14 years old. Those two guys put on a hitting clinic throughout the season as they chased Roger Maris' home run record together. It was heartbreaking to learn, years after the fact, that it was all too good to be true. McGwire and Sosa practically resurrected the sport of baseball that summer while driving in runs for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs, …...

ESPN will continue its Sunday night programming to fill the void left by the absence of live sports by airing three films in its documentary series “30 for 30” after the conclusion of the Chicago Bulls docu-series “The Last Dance,” including stories on Lance Armstrong, Bruce Lee and the steroid scandal that surrounded Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire.
The films “Lance,” “Be Water” and “Long Gone Summer” will air on ESPN on Sunday nights after “The Last Dance” ends and will be available on ESPN+ immediately after their premieres. Both “Lance” and “Be Water” made their premieres at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
First up is “Lance” on Sunday, May 24, a two-part film directed by Marina Zenovich (“Robin Williams: Come Inside my Mind) that grants new access to the disgraced cycling champion, and the second part of the film will air the following Sunday on May 31.

Later on, things came to a head with Alex Rodriguez and his positive test for steroids. Within that scandal, and the whole human growth hormone scandal, are a number of unique characters. A few form the basis for the documentary Screwball, which finds a unique spin on what otherwise could have been a special on ESPN. This take helps set the doc apart and give it a fun bit of variety. The film is a very untraditional non fiction story. Truly a documentary, it also functions like a true crime dramedy, in that all of the non talking head or archival footage is dramatic recreations where the...

In today’s film news roundup, “Screwball” is getting a domestic release in the spring, Brian Goldsmith re-ups at Lionsgate, horror novel “Snowblind” is in the works as a film, and “Room 13” has been cast.
Acquisition
Greenwich Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to baseball doping documentary “Screwball” and plans a theatrical release to coincide with the start of the Major League Baseball season in April.
The film, directed by Billy Corben (“Cocaine Cowboys”), centers on the Alex Rodriguez/Biogenesis doping scandal, which broke in 2013 when several Mlb players were accused of obtaining performance-enhancing drugs such as human growth hormone from the now-defunct rejuvenation clinic Biogenesis of America.
“Screwball” premiered in September at the Toronto International Film Festival and recently played at DocNYC. Corben and Alfred Spellman produced under their Rakontur banner.

The real-life misadventures of central figures in the 2013 Major League Baseball doping scandal play like outrageous twists and turns in the seriocomic crime fiction of Carl Hiassen or Elmore Leonard throughout “Screwball,” an impudently entertaining documentary that suggests what might result if the Monty Python troupe were given carte blanche to produce an investigative report for “60 Minutes.”
It comes to us from Billy Corben, a filmmaker whose previous chronicles of illicit activity and entrepreneurial drug traders in and around Miami might now be viewed as warm-up pitches for his latest effort. This time on the mound, he throws heat and scores impressively with help from a lineup that includes baseball All-Stars, mob-connected lowlifes, tanning and bodybuilding enthusiasts, free-spending Mlb investigators, and an unlicensed anti-aging expert whose lack of bona fide medical credentials scarcely hindered his ability to provide, one way or the other, performance-enhancing drugs for his clients. One of the biggest controversies in the baseball world for the past several years has been about former Chicago Cubs great Sammy Sosa. Fans have taken notice of his dramatically lighter skin since 2009, and some have even gone so far as to say that they think he actually wants to be white. Here's why he says the haters don't get to him! “Look at what I am today,” he said in a new interview with Sports Illustrated, while showing off his glamorous home in the United Arab Emirates. He has the utmost confidence in himself, and doesn't care that people have mean things to say about his skin tone, or anything else for that matter. “This is my life, and I don’t take garbage from nobody. I do whatever I want.” Sammy Sosa in 2018. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) Sammy's son Sammy Jr. revealed that his dad doesn't let the criticism get to him,...

‘Atlanta’ Review: ‘Teddy Perkins’ Is More Nightmarish Than ‘Get Out,’ and We Still Haven’t Recovered
[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “Atlanta” Season 2, Episode 6 titled “Teddy Perkins.”]
We are shook and yet in awe. “Atlanta” made good on the promise of violence and danger that was laid out in the opening moments of the season with Thursday night’s installment “Teddy Perkins.” The fact that FX announced the episode would air without commercial interruption (and – to the horror of TV critics – without an advance screener) should have been the first indication that something extra special was in the offing. This would turn out to be one of the most disquieting episodes of horror to ever grace a comedy series.
In the Darius-centric episode, “Atlanta’s” mumbling dilettante (Lakeith Stanfield) arrives at a stately but careworn mansion to pick up a special piano with colored keys from Teddy Perkins and Benny Hope, two brothers who shared a musical past and, as viewers soon learn, an abusive father. As the episode wears on,...

However, Sosa mad headlines on the internet over the weekend when a photo of him and his wife Sonia Rodriguez celebrating at her themed birthday party popped up on social media. The photo took fans by surprise as Sosa and his spouse are sporting cowboy getups, immediately fueling comments about the pair's outfits and pose. "Ok I need to know which Jc Penney allowed this," one person quipped on Twitter of the photo. "This is everything I love about everything," someone else said of the shot. Despite the persistent prominence of Robert Frost’s words, it’s doubtful anyone expected the golden age of television to turn out like this. Sexual assault, misconduct, and harassment allegations are roaring through Hollywood, and Thursday saw two more of TV’s titans charged as feminist forgeries.
In an expose in The New York Times, five women said Louis C.K. committed sexual misconduct by masturbating in front of them. He has since corroborated these claims with a statement of his own. In the original story, one of the women said that when C.K. contacted her to apologize, he regretted ”shoving her in a bathroom,” instead of what he’d actually done. The implication of this mistaken memory is as frightening, if not more so, than the allegations that have come out so far. Further acts of sexual misconduct were not addressed in C.K.’s statement.

In the midst of March Madness and with the Kentucky Derby around the corner, the first pitch of baseball season is almost here.

Chicago – One of the specialities of HollywoodChicago.com is the film and personality interview. The majority of these chats came through me, Patrick McDonald, and I couldn’t narrow it down to a top 10 or even a top 20. For 2014, there were 25 top interviews, and it is a diverse range of voices.

Chicago – With the 2014 Major League All-Star game coming up next week on July 15th, that break is a time to reflect on the current season and your favorite team. At the “Hot Stove Cool Music” event in Chicago on June 20th, HollywoodChicago.com got in the All-Star spirit by talking with the President of Baseball Operations for the Chicago Cubs, Theo Epstein, plus baseball writer and former Espn commentator, Peter Gammons.
Hot Stove Cool Music was co-founded by Peter Gammons in 2000, and began in Boston. Theo Epstein and his family charity organization, “Foundation to Be Named Later” partnered with the event shortly thereafter, and in total it has raised more than $5.5 million dollars, creating positive opportunities for disadvantaged children and families. Just like apple pie, McDonald’s, bald eagles and Beyoncé, baseball is the American way. Once upon a time (read: the 70s-90s, mostly), the Great American Pastime was routinely celebrated in movies like Major League, A League of Their Own, The Natural and, of course, Field of Dreams and Angels in the Outfield (people naturally love baseball ghosts). In the present day, the baseball craze has died down somewhat, possibly due to the fact that the sport hasn’t had a huge, Sammy Sosa/Mark Mcgwire-style showdown in years to get amped over. Recent, serious baseball-centric films like Moneyball and 42, which told the story of Jackie Robinson, have seen success, but there hasn’t been the same wave of feel-good sports flicks that Bobby and his Little League team could go catch after practice together. Now, there’s a film coming down the pipeline that is attempting to fill that void. Here...

Paramount is planning to resurrect Frank Drebin for a new Naked Gun movie.
Surely, you can’t be serious.

As Variety initially reported this morning, The Hangover’s Ed Helms is attached to the project, stepping into the sometimes-wrong, but never-in-doubt shoes of dimwitted cop Frank Drebin.
Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker, who created Police Squad!, the short-lived TV series that starred Nielsen as Drebin and inspired the three successful Naked Gun comedies, are not involved with the new movie.

Chicago – The long goodbye of tainted cycling athlete Lance Armstrong continues – after all the victories, “Live Strong,” the multiple denials of cheating and finally the confession that he lied. Oscar winning documentary maker Alex Gibney is the latest to take on this legacy of dishonesty, in “The Armstrong Lie.”
The new film dissects the history of Lance Armstrong as he kept denying his use of performance enhancing drugs and methods, on his way to seven straight Tour de France bike race titles (which have since been revoked). In meticulous detail, Gibney – who began the documentary as a chronicle of Armstrong’s 2009 comeback – strips back the veneer of public relations and peer protection of Armstrong. The director even talked to Armstrong himself, after his infamous confession to Oprah Winfrey that he had use performance enhancement techniques to cheat his way to those race victories.

If there’s one universal language that we all speak, it’s Sports. No matter where you live, or who you are, the one common denominator that we can all agree on is that we all love sports. Whether it’s a particular sport, a team, or a player, everybody has their favorite. Debating about sports just might be funner than debating about wrestling, but I digress.
Throughout my life time I have seen a lot of holy sh*t moments in sports. Things that we’ll never see again and moments that we probably take for granted. The purpose of this article is to relive some of those memories. Whether they’re personal to you or personal to your grandparents, sports transcends time and that’s what makes them so beautiful.
I hope this article can bring back some memories and maybe even put a smile on your face.
