Grey's Anatomystar Ellen Pompeo has opened up about the pay disparity between herself and former co-star Patrick Dempsey. From the mind of Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s Anatomy debuted in 2005 and quickly became one of the most popular medical dramas on television. As the protagonist and namesake of the ABC series, Pompeo's Dr. Meredith Grey remained the leading professional at Grey Sloan Memorial before departing after 19 seasons. Dempsey played Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd, Meredith’s love interest, until his departure in season 11. In season 21, Pompeo only appears sporadically to maintain her focus on other projects.
On an episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast (via Variety), Pompeo recalled asking creator Rhimes for the same salary as Dempsey during contract negotiations. The actor acknowledged that Dempsey was a more recognizable actor when the show first started, having been cast several times in TV pilots with notable appearances on Will & Grace and Once & Again.

Bong Joon-ho is a one of a kind.
He’s only made 8 films in the past 25 years, but each feature is a precious jewel, expertly chiseled and finely shined. There are a handful of thematic and narrative obsessions that he cleverly reworks throughout his films — the injustices associated with Capitalism, the transformative power of trauma, the importance of communication, animal rights – each time revealing new layers and finding new angles. These are beautiful, powerful, funny, wildly entertaining films. They are endlessly rewatchable and always break new ground. His 2019 feature “Parasite” was the first South Korean movie to ever be nominated for an Academy Award; it wound up winning four Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best International Feature Film.
His latest, “Mickey 17,” is one of his best. It’s a searing satire, a sci-fi extravaganza and a deeply empathetic character study (it just so happens that the character...

[This story contains spoilers for Captain America: Brave New World.]
With Captain America: Brave New World, Julius Onah joined a long line of filmmakers who jumped from an indie film to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After directing 2018’s The Cloverfield Paradox for Paramount (before it ultimately landed at Netflix amid a splashy Super Bowl stunt), he helmed the 2019 indie drama Luce, about a high achieving high school student who was adopted from war-torn Eritrea.
The Sundance film proved pivotal to Onah landing his MCU entry, in part thanks to Luce star Octavia Spencer going to bat for him with Marvel. The film also put him in the orbit of future Brave New World star Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres), who years ago was roommates with Luce lead Kelvin Harrison Jr. Coincidentally, Luce actor Tim Roth played The Abomination in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, a movie that factored heavily into the events of Brave New World.

In 2011, director Tate Taylor released his historical drama "The Help," a story that focuses on Black maids working and living with white families in the American South in the 1960s and attempts to put the focus on the maids rather than their (often bigoted and controlling) employers. Based on a novel of the same name by Kathryn Stockett, the film stars Viola Davis as Aibileen Clark, Octavia Spencer as Minny Jackson, and Emma Stone as Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, an aspiring writer who takes it upon herself to compile the stories of Black maids, including Minny and Aibileen, to tell the truth about how "the help" are treated — particularly in Jackson, Mississippi. Aibileen works for Skeeter's friend Elizabeth Leeholt (Ahna O'Reilly), a neglectful mother to her young daughter (upon whom Aibileen dotes), while Minny works for the odious and cruel Hilly Holbrook (Bryce Dallas Howard) and her mother (played by Sissy Spacek...

Octavia Spencer, the Academy Award-winning actress notable for her roles in The Help, Fruitvale Station, and Hidden Figures, has had a history of taking jabs at ongoing global issues — from The Shack's racial controversy in 2017 to Apple's eco-friendly campaign in 2023. In more recent news, Spencer mocked the employees of Doge (Department of Government Efficiency) by referencing her infamous chocolate pie scene from the 2011 film, The Help.
For those unaware, Doge was established as an initiative of the second Trump administration, with Elon Musk serving as its de-facto leader. Even though it's only been a month since it was formed, it has already become the focus of controversy, and Spencer wasted no time voicing her disapproval through a stinging social media post. On her official Instagram account, Spencer shared a picture of Minny Jackson deviously offering the infamous "poop pie" from The Help.

Octavia Spencer channeled her Oscar-winning role from “The Help” to send a blunt message to Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (Doge). In the words of Minny Jackson: Eat my shit.
“Bake sale for Washington to All Doge employees and supporters,” Spencer wrote while sharing a photo from “The Help” of Minny holding up her notorious poop pie. “I need good vanilla from Mexico and some Canadian maple syrup. #limitedEdition pies. Corn and chocolate. Need lots of donations for the special ingredient. Eat looooooooots of corn. One time sale. Fill out the cards below. Who would you send a pie to?”
Spencer ended the post with “#MinnyJacksonCallToAction.” In “The Help,” Spencer’s Minny gets revenge on the manipulative socialite Hilly Holbrook (Bryce Dallas Howard) by baking her a chocolate pie made with Minny’s poop. The scene in the film culminates with Minny triumphantly telling Hilly: “Eat my shit!

In this feature, we're breaking those down and highlighting everything from familiar facial hair to recycled convention photos and even the MCU debuts of a few very obscure characters.

While the blockbuster was clearly reworked through extensive reshoots, this is still a Marvel Studios title. That means it's full of Easter Eggs, references to the comic books and wider MCU, and cameos even the most die-hard fans might have missed while watching this one.
In this feature, we're breaking those down and highlighting everything from familiar facial hair to recycled convention photos and even the MCU debuts of a few very obscure characters.

Captain America: Brave New World marks director Julius Onah's fourth time directing a feature-length project, putting the relatively unheralded filmmaker among some top Hollywood veterans. Onah credits one of those veterans, acclaimed actor Harrison Ford, for making his experience worthwhile, claiming that meeting him remains a "pinch me moment" he'll always cherish.
During an interview with Deadline, Onah delved into his collaboration with Ford on Brave New World as they carved out Ford's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as U.S. President Thaddeus E. "Thunderbolt" Ross/Red Hulk. The Nigerian-American filmmaker recalled watching Ford in Indiana Jones films as a child and in Clear and Present Danger after moving to the U.S., never thinking he'd have the opportunity to work with someone like him on a major production.

Emilia Perez is far from the only controversial Oscar contender, as the history of cinematic awards is rife with upsets and undeserved winners. In 2011, Tate Taylor's The Helpcertainly caused some waves when it received four Academy Award nominations and one win — and now, this problematic period drama seems to be making a comeback on Hulu.
Set in 1960s-era Jackson, Mississippi, The Help examines the lives of African-American domestic laborers by focusing on Aibileen Clark and Minny Jackson, two Black women who work for wealthy white socialites. Their mistreatment at the hands of the socialites is documented by an aspiring writer, Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, who is also white. Throughout the course of the film, Minny, Aibileen, and other maids in their community face several instances of racism and aggression from their employers: Minny is fired for using an indoor "whites only" bathroom during a dangerous tornado, while another maid is violently arrested.

Rihanna goes blue as Smurfette in the new trailer for the upcoming Smurfs movie, in which she not only debuts her new character, but also sings “Don’t Stop the Music” and “Heaven Is a Place on Earth.”
After an introduction from Rihanna, the clip begins with a mash-up of the original Smurfs theme and “Don’t Stop the Music” as the “coolest Smurf in the whole village” dances alongside her buddies. Their idyllic existence gets shattered, however, when Papa Smurf (John Goodman) is kidnapped and Smurfette must lead them into the real world.
A sleepy cover of Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven Is a Place on Earth” — which gets rudely interrupted by DJ Khaled yelling over it — soundtracks their journey, which results in a somewhat amusing introduction to Papa Smurf’s irascible brother (Nick Offerman) and the Paris Neighborhood Watch Smurfs. The trailer for Paramount's Smurfs reboot is now online, giving us a first glimpse of some footage from the animated/live-action hybrid musical.
The teaser begins with a little Superman nod, before we're introduced to the eponymous blue creatures living happily as ever in Smurf Village. When Papa Smurf (John Goodman) is captured by the villainous Gargamel, Smurfette (Rihanna) steps up to lead a rescue mission to the real world.
Chris Miller and Matt Landon direct, while Pam Brady wrote the screenplay. The voice cast also features Natasha Lyonne, Nick Offerman, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, Daniel Levy, Octavia Spencer, Sandra Oh, Hannah Waddingham, Xolo Maridueña, James Corden, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd, and Kurt Russell.
“The DNA in Peyo’s original drawings guide so many creative choices in the film,” Miller said at a presentation at the Annecy Animation Festival last June. “It’s the blueprint for the kind of film I want to make.
