Celyn Jones has started filming Madfabulous in Wales, as the cast for his latest movie as director gets filled out. More here.

Earlier this year, a man best known for his acting and screenwriting – Celyn Jones – shifted into the director’s chair for the first time with the movie The Almond & The Seahorse (pictured). Actually, already, that’s not quite true. He shot that movie originally with co-director Tom Stern a couple of years back, then overhauled it in post-production. Co-starring with Rebel Wilson, the film notched up solid notices on its UK release.

Around the time of its release, Celyn Jones was talking about his next project as director, that was pretty much ready to go. That’d be Madfabulous, that he confirmed to Film Stories is now up and running in Wales.

The film is set in the 19th century, and it tells the story of the fifth Marquess of Anglesey.

Spongebob Squarepants and his pal, Sandy Cheeks, are flying to save Bikini Bottom in the first official image for the upcoming Sandy spin-off film Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie. The film will be based on the iconic animated television series of the same name which is currently in the midst of season 13 with season 14 already announced for 2024. The immensely popular series has also spawned a film franchise that has already released three films, the most recent of which was 2021's The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run.

The new Spongebob movie will be a live-action/animated hybrid spin-off with Spongebob's squirrel friend Sandy Cheeks at the heart of it. Based on the film's first official image, courtesy of IGN, Spongebob will also be featured in the movie. Check out the photo below:

The Butthole Surfers, one of the bands that influenced some of the biggest rock bands of the 90s including Nirvana and Red Hot Chili Peppers, are getting their own deep dive.

A feature documentary about the band, which was lampooned on The Simpsons and Beavis and Butthead and appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, is currently in the works from director Tom Stern.

Stern is a writer, director, producer and showrunner, whose credits include Netflix’s The Toys That Made Us and Kevin Hart’s Guide to Black History.

The Butthole Surfers Movie will tell the story of the Texas-based band that featured members including singer Gibby Haynes, guitarist Paul Leary and drummer King Coffey. The band hs released eight studio albums since they formed in 1981 including Locust Abortion Technician, Hairway to Steven and the Capitol Records-released Electriclarryland, which spawned a surprising hit single with the song Pepper.

Director Steven Spielberg’s penultimate shark film Jaws spawned Deep Blue Sea, The Shallows and Open Water, just to name a few. Mankind has been chum in the cinema water for these sharp toothed beasties for decades.

Now comes the latest terror The Meg. In their recent 2018 preview, Warner Bros. Pictures has released a chilling first image from the film starring Jason Statham. Expect a first trailer to hit soon.

Statham plays Jonas Taylor in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Gravity Pictures’ action adventure. It is slated for release on August 10, 2018.

After more than 25 years since their last official film appearance, the Crites from Critters are coming back, this time as a series for Verizon's go90 streaming service.

Announced at the Television Critics Association's (TCA) 2018 Winter Press Tour, Critters: A New Binge is one of two new projects that have been given a series order by Verizon's go90, with Warner Bros. Television Group's Blue Ribbon Content digital studio on board to create the series.

An adaptation of the film franchise that featured little furry space creatures known as Crites (as well as Krites), Critters: A New Binge will once again bring the hungry aliens back down to Earth, this time in search of one of their own.

Continuing its commitment to creating new and compelling programming for the digital marketplace, Warner Bros. announced today the name of its newly formed shortform series production unit and also unveiled its first slate of development projects. Blue Ribbon Content is the name of the recently created division, which is charged with developing and producing live-action series for digital platforms, tapping the creative talent already working at the Studio while also identifying opportunities for collaboration with new writers and producers.

All of the Studio's narrative shortform digital content will now be produced under the Blue Ribbon Content banner, which is headed up by Sam Register, who took oversight of digital development and production efforts upon being named President, Warner Bros. Although perhaps best known for his roles in two Bill & Ted films and The Lost Boys, Alex Winter is equally at home behind the camera, having spent the last two decades working predominantly as a director – from the cult classic Freaked, through various music videos, adverts and movies, up to his recent documentary Downloaded (which tells the story of Shawn Fanning and Napster) and the upcoming, Kickstarted-funded Deep Web.

Recently, however, he’s taken a rare step back into acting, appearing alongside Elijah Wood and John Cusack as a villainous usher in Eugenio Mira’s stylish thriller Grand Piano. Director Alex Winter's work with "Downloaded," began a decade ago, when he sold his feature screenplay about Napster's early 2000s story. Now, he has scrapped the script, lost the narrative feature, and developed his own documentary on the subject, which he hopes to give a new view on the music industries tumultuous relationship with the company. What it's about: Downloaded charts the rise and fall of Napster and the birth of the digital revolution. It's the story of the young mavericks who helped ignite the biggest youth revolt of our time. Somehow both are these scenarios are true for Alex Winter and Tom Stern’s gloriously gonzo “Freaked.” Initially pegged as a mainstream comedy by Fox -- with a planned wide release that included action figures and a Gap campaign skewering posters -- the film was basically dumped by Fox after head Joe Roth, who had greenlit the project, left the studio, but it picked up raves at Tiff and has been winning fans over ever since. But the film, featuring ugly little trolls and mutating movie stars, is so far outside the mainstream it’s hard to imagine it having been a big hit even if it was carrying both stars of the blockbuster ‘Bill & Ted’ films.
