Celyn Jones has started filming Madfabulous in Wales, as the cast for his latest movie as director gets filled out. More here.
Earlier this year, a man best known for his acting and screenwriting – Celyn Jones – shifted into the director’s chair for the first time with the movie The Almond & The Seahorse (pictured). Actually, already, that’s not quite true. He shot that movie originally with co-director Tom Stern a couple of years back, then overhauled it in post-production. Co-starring with Rebel Wilson, the film notched up solid notices on its UK release.
Around the time of its release, Celyn Jones was talking about his next project as director, that was pretty much ready to go. That’d be Madfabulous, that he confirmed to Film Stories is now up and running in Wales.
The film is set in the 19th century, and it tells the story of the fifth Marquess of Anglesey.

They first came to the big screen two years after Gremlins, but they didn’t need to be fed after midnight in order to become evil. The ferocious alien furballs of 1986’s Critters and its three sequels look to pay Earth another visit in an upcoming series from Warner Bros.’ Blue Ribbon Content, a new label that focuses on creating live action programs for digital platforms.
Blue Ribbon Content is wasting no time herding shows towards production. Today, the recently launched label announced three series orders—Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles, an Untitled Mortal Kombat Series, and Play It Again, Dick—as well as a slew of in-development programs, including a live action Critters series:

Director, actor and former Bill & Ted star talks about his latest film, Grand Piano, his documentary Deep Web, and lots more...
Although perhaps best known for his roles in two Bill & Ted films and The Lost Boys, Alex Winter is equally at home behind the camera, having spent the last two decades working predominantly as a director – from the cult classic Freaked, through various music videos, adverts and movies, up to his recent documentary Downloaded (which tells the story of Shawn Fanning and Napster) and the upcoming, Kickstarted-funded Deep Web.
Recently, however, he’s taken a rare step back into acting, appearing alongside Elijah Wood and John Cusack as a villainous usher in Eugenio Mira’s stylish thriller Grand Piano. We caught up with Alex down the line from his new home base in La, to discuss his work on both sides of the actor-director divide.
So I guess the first question,...

Director Alex Winter's work with "Downloaded," began a decade ago, when he sold his feature screenplay about Napster's early 2000s story. Now, he has scrapped the script, lost the narrative feature, and developed his own documentary on the subject, which he hopes to give a new view on the music industries tumultuous relationship with the company. What it's about: Downloaded charts the rise and fall of Napster and the birth of the digital revolution. It's the story of the young mavericks who helped ignite the biggest youth revolt of our time. Tell Us About Yourself: I started out as a child actor on Broadway with co-starring roles in The King & I, Peter Pan, and Simon Gray's Close Of Play at the Manhattan Theater Club. After attending Nyu film school I began directing commercials, music videos and The Idiot Box; a hit show for MTV that I starred in...

Alex Winter Discusses His 1993 Cult Hit 'Freaked,' Says 'Bill & Ted 3' A Long Way Off From Happening
And More From The 92YTribeca Q&A Cult films come in all shapes and sizes. Some hit right out of the gate with a small but rabid audience while others are discovered over a longer period of time. Somehow both are these scenarios are true for Alex Winter and Tom Stern’s gloriously gonzo “Freaked.” Initially pegged as a mainstream comedy by Fox -- with a planned wide release that included action figures and a Gap campaign skewering posters -- the film was basically dumped by Fox after head Joe Roth, who had greenlit the project, left the studio, but it picked up raves at Tiff and has been winning fans over ever since. But the film, featuring ugly little trolls and mutating movie stars, is so far outside the mainstream it’s hard to imagine it having been a big hit even if it was carrying both stars of the blockbuster ‘Bill & Ted’ films.

In ‘celebration’ of the release of Adam Sandler’s latest comedy Jack & Jill (which is already out in the Us, alas UK readers will have to wait until February 3rd, but at least then you can take your loved ones to it on Valentine’s Day!), I thought I’d take a look at 10 other films I am baffled ever got the green light. I mean, watching the trailer for Jack & Jill one might think it was a deleted scene from the film Funny People in which Sandler mocked the kind of ridiculous high concept comedies that he is so often guilty of making. We thought after pushing them to extremes with spoof clips in that movie which included Sandler’s head magicked onto a baby’s body, it seemed like Sandler was both affectionately lampooning some of his early career decisions and also putting to rest that kind of...
