At long last, it seems like Broken Lizard is getting the gang back together for another round of cop-related shenanigans. That's right! After much discussion in recent years, it seems that "Super Troopers 3" is coming together. While a formal announcement hasn't been made, writer/director Jay Chandrasekhar has revealed that the project is in active discussions at Disney and appears to be close to getting approval. In short, unless something derails it, it's happening.
During a recent appearance on the "Holmberg's Morning Sickness" radio show, Chandrasekhar revealed that, despite Disney's $71.3 billion purchase of Fox in 2019, "Super Troopers 3" is still very much alive. It was previously revealed during San Diego Comic-Con in 2018 that the sequel will be titled "Winter Soldiers," and whether or not that's still the case remains to be seen. But Chandrasekhar did provide a promising update on the...

Like Spirit Halloween seizing a once-beloved store, Silver Scream Con moved into the old stomping grounds of Rock and Shock — New England’s premier horror convention, which came to an end in 2019 — at the Dcu Center in Worcester, Ma for its three-quel on September 13-15.
It was a full circle moment for Silver Scream mastermind and Ice Nine Kills frontman Spencer Charnas, whose experiences attending Rock and Shock inspired him to start his own convention. Having quickly outgrown its previous venue, the Doubletree hotel in Danvers, Silver Scream Con III’s new setting was able to accommodate even more horror fans for three days of horror, music, gore, and more.
The guest list included: Scream‘s David Arquette, Jamie Kennedy, and Lee Waddell; Cabin Fever‘s Eli Roth, Cerina Vincent, and Jordan Ladd; Terrifier‘s Damien Leone, David Howard Thornton, Lauren Lavera, Elliott Fullam, and Amelie McLain; Halloween‘s Nick Castle,...

The Super Troopers gang is back on the road – well, actually it’s a distillery, with the original lawmen getting back together to promote WhistlePig’s maple syrup in a throwback to one of the great scenes in the 2001 Broken Lizard comedy.
In the ad, we see Super Trooper star Erik Stolhanske (Trooper “Rabbit”) slugging a bottle of WhistlePig barrel-aged maple syrup, to which Steve Lemme (Trooper “Mac”) coaching him to relax and open his jaw, further prompting Jay Chandrasekhar (Lieutenant “Thorny”) to tell him, “You’re doing it wrong.” Rabbit’s reply? “What are you talking about? Chugging maple syrup’s kind of our thing!”
But for such maple syrup, chugging is forbidden from the Super Troopers boys and pretty much anyone else who tries to set their lips on the bottle. After all, it is Vermont’s finest…Cue Paul Soter (Trooper Foster) and Kevin Heffernan (Trooper Farva) at the bar,...

The famous Super Troopers biker scene was a hilarious accident caused by a wardrobe mistake. Foster and Ursula's miscommunication about their disguises as "bikers" leads to a funny moment in the restaurant. The accidental scene captures the slapdash, have-fun-with-it attitude of the state trooper characters.
The famous Super Troopers biker scene has a backstory that makes the sequence even funnier in retrospect. The Broken Lizard comedy group consisting of Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske co-wrote Super Troopers with Chandrasekhar directing. The film follows a Vermont state troopers' patrol filled with officers who would rather pull pranks and mess around than do their jobs. Super Troopers is a beloved cult classic movie from the Broken Lizard crew, and fans were surprised with a sequel, Super Troopers 2, in 2018, and a third Super Troopers movie in development.

You probably cringe at the thought of hearing about a movie from a group of comedians coming out with a slasher film, right? Well, let me just say that horror comedies weren’t typically prevalent back when horror had the Carpenters, Cravens, Romeros, and Cronenbergs slashing about in Hollywood. Everything was serious in tone and brought the stuff made of nightmares. You had your infamous slasher icons like Michael, Freddy, Jason, and even Chucky. You also had horror movie monsters like The Thing, The Great White Shark from Jaws, Brundlefly, Godzilla, and even Tremors. But then, as we entered a new millennium, Horror started to ease up on the tension and seriousness, in exchange for some quick wit and laughs. Horror brought in a new style into its genre with comedic undertones which was a great opening for some new films in the pipeline to help branch horror into unfamiliar territory.

With the prankster police officers having returned five years ago, Brian Cox shares his thoughts on a potential Super Troopers 3 return. Created by the comedy troupe Broken Lizard, the Super Troopers movies revolve around a mischievous group of Vermont Highway Patrol officers as they frequently find their jobs in jeopardy thanks to their comedic antics. With two movies spread across 17 years, the franchise has garnered mixed critical reviews, but modest box office returns and large cult followings.
While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant for the family drama Prisoner's Daughter, Brian Cox was asked about the chances of a Super Troopers 3 return. Though not sharing whether he's been approached just yet, the star did express his interest in coming back for a trilogy capper on the one condition of avoiding any night shoots, as well as pitching a new scene between him and Lynda Carter. Broken Lizard is back with a historical epic. Okay, perhaps it’s not quite historical or epic. Yet Quasi put a smile on my face for its entire run time. The latest from Jay Chandrasekhar, Steve Lemme, Kevin Heffernan, Erik Stolhanske, and Paul Soter is a charmer. Yes, it’s crude and very silly, and I genuinely enjoyed seeing these fellas go the cosplay route. It also helps that they were smart enough to cast the lovely and talented Adrianne Palicki as their Queen. And if you’d like to check this one out, you can watch it right now, over on Hulu.
Speaking with Adrianne Palicki is always a good time. I recently sat down on Zoom to talk about her latest, and she was happy to chat about working with the guys. She opened up about connecting with comedy and getting the chance to improv along with her co-stars.

Broken Lizard, the five-man comedy troupe which formed in 1990 at a fraternity on the upstate New York campus of preppy Colgate University, have been stoner icons since the very first scene of their 2001 breakout hit “Super Troopers.” That’s when Jay Chandrasekhar’s mustachioed Vermont cop Lieutenant Arcot “Thorny” Ramathorn pulls over a car full of potheads and proceeds to terrorize and freak them out.
Like they did in 2018 with “Super Troopers 2,” their newest film, “Quasi,” a reimagining of Victor Hugo’s “Hunchback of Notre Dame,” is a no-holds-barred, scatological combination of “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” crossed with Mel Brooks’ “Robin Hood: Men in Tights.” It premieres today — April 20 — as a Hulu Original through Fox Searchlight.

Whenever people whine about movies that "couldn't be made today," they're usually referring to comedy films with a grossly outdated sense of humor or storylines that are blatantly discriminatory. Seldom are they referring to the truly ridiculous swings of comedy films made from the 1970s-1990s, a style that has mostly dissolved into our collective memories and only reappears when some brave soul makes an absurd laugh riot like "Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar."
The sad result of every blockbuster franchise slowly attempting to push us into a nostalgia-mad monoculture has been a lack of weirdo cinema. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of folks out there making unique films, but they're typically released independently and without the marketing budget or publicity they deserve. This makes greenlighting offbeat comedies a risky move for studios and denies audiences fresh, experimental comedy adventures. The Broken Lizard comedy troupe...

A colleague of mine, Marc Edward Heuck, once compared the films of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe to 7-Eleven hot dogs. The comparison was meant to be favorable. In both cases, the thinking went, the artisans in question know full well that they are not offering haute cuisine. Instead, the consumer is getting something efficiently constructed, barely flavorful enough, and perfect for a night when the edibles hit a little harder than expected. Broken Lizard's films have never elevated beyond the realm of raunchy, frat boy-style chuckle-fests, but have possessed just enough zingers, oddball gags, and precision-strike profanity to entrench themselves in the friendly cult trench inside the human brain. They possess an affable, thrown-off quality that makes them weirdly appealing, even as the jokes periodically fall flat.

Not to be confused with an adaptation of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” comedy troupe Broken Lizard’s “Quasi” tells a story that’s truer to the Oxford definition of its title than the 1831 Victor Hugo novel that inspired it. Kevin Heffernan settles uneasily into the director’s seat usually occupied by colleague Jay Chandrasekhar for an underdog story more interested in leveraging funny pronunciations of French words for underwhelming laughs than in creating real characters — much less a visual backdrop that doesn’t look like a second-rate Renaissance Faire.

Twenty-five years ago, before they made their seminal cop comedy "Super Troopers," comedy troupe Broken Lizard were tossing around ideas based on a character who was a lovable loser who managed to become a hero. Fast-forward to today, and those ideas have solidified in the form of "Quasi," a satirical take on "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" that traps hunchback Quasimodo (Steve Lemme) in a battle between the King of France (Jay Chandrasekhar) and the Pope (Paul Soter). If you ever wanted to see the guys behind "Beerfest" and "Club Dread" tackle medieval history with their unique brand of sweet stoner humor, then "Quasi" is the flick for you, and it's hitting Hulu on April 20, 2023, just in time for the holiest of pot-smoking holidays.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame gets an R-rated twist in the official trailer for Quasi, the latest film from the comedy group, Broken Lizard. Since releasing their first full-length production back in 1996, members Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske have created and starred in many projects, including Super Troopers and its 2018 sequel. Quasi was announced in 2021, with Heffernan attached as director, and will follow its titular character as he becomes involved in "a murderous feud" between the King of France and the Pope.
Hulu recently dropped the first official trailer for Quasi, which provides a look at the troupe's unique take on The Hunchback of Notre Dame, set to premiere on April 20.
The footage features a lot of funny moments, highlighting Broken Lizard's humor, and reveals more about the story, in which "Quasi" wins a lottery that allows him to meet with the Pope.

The "Monty Python" film series is something of a legend in and of itself. The franchise is utterly beloved by comedy enthusiasts, and though we've had a lot of great comedic groups come together to make films since — The Lonely Island, anyone? — none have had quite the same spark as those English comics. That said, we may finally get our generation's answer to "Monty Python's The Holy Grail" in "Quasi," a new Hulu comedy that centers on a satirical look at Quasimodo, aka the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
In the film's trailer, we meet Quasi, a hunchback who wins the papal lottery in his village and gets to have his confessions heard by the visiting Pope — a prospect that is seemingly positioned as a way for him to turn his life around with a stroke of a miracle he never expected. Produced by Searchlight Pictures, they're dropping this direct to streaming, skipping theaters - but it should be good to grab a bunch of friends for a fun night to watch anyway. Rock and Shock served as New England’s premier horror convention for 16 wonderful years before its reign came to an unexpected end in 2019. While several other events admirably attempted to occupy the void left in the local horror community, none were quite able to fill Rock and Shock’s sizeable shoes.
If its debut is any indication, Silver Scream Con is, at long last, a worthy successor to the throne. Created by Massachusetts’ own horror-inspired metal band Ice Nine Kills, the first ever Silver Scream Con took place August 26-28 at the Doubletree Boston North Shore in Danvers, Ma.
Rock and Shock catered to the intersection of music and horror, but with Ice Nine Kills’ rabid cult following behind it, Silver Scream Con brought in a new audience beyond die-hard genre fans. Informal polls conducted before each panel consistently showed that more than half of the attendees were at their first horror convention.

Tacoma Fd showrunners Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme wanted to create a new comedy that was as serious as it was silly.
Along with Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske, Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme are best known for their work with the Broken Lizard comedy troupe. The group is responsible for a string of comedy films in the 2000s, like the first Super Troopers and Beerfest, that shaped American comedic sensibilities at the movies for a decade.
With their original truTV series Tacoma Fd, however, Heffernan and Lemme wanted to do something a little different. The show premiered in late March and gradually, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter, gained a niche following that has resulted in some pretty good ratings for the network. Ahead of the season finale next Thursday, the longtime friends and collaborators spoke to Den of Geek about the inspiration for the series,...

“A Quiet Place” had another noisy weekend at the domestic box office, reclaiming the No. 1 slot in its third frame.
John Krasinski’s thriller co-starring Emily Blunt continued on its stellar run, earning $22 million from 3,808 locations. “A Quiet Place” had another impressive holdover, declining only 34% to bring its domestic tally to $132 million. That was enough to top Dwayne Johnson’s “Rampage” and Amy Schumer’s “I Feel Pretty.”
Bumped down to No. 2, Dwayne Johnson’s “Rampage” collected $21 million in 4,115 theaters in its second weekend. So far, the film has made $66.6 million at the North American box office. Luckily, “Rampage” has been able to justify its expensive price tag with a strong international showing. It has crossed the $200 million mark overseas, claiming $57 million this weekend. That brings its global tally to $283 million.
Stx’s “I Feel Pretty” bowed in third with $16.2 million from 3,440 theaters. The Schumer-led comedy also features Michelle Williams,...

John Krasinski’s surprise hit “A Quiet Place” has returned to its No. 1 slot in its third weekend at the domestic box office with $20 million from 3,808 theaters, up 219 sites from last weekend.
In second is last weekend’s box office topper, Dwayne Johnson’s “Rampage,” with about $18 million from 4,115 theaters. The action film opened to $35 million last weekend, narrowly beating out “A Quiet Place’s” second frame.
“A Quiet Place” stars Krasinski and wife Emily Blunt as a couple trying to keep their family safe in a world populated by aliens that hunt based on sound. The Paramount film has grossed a respectable $116 million through Friday, including $56 million from foreign markets.
In its first seven days, Warner Bros.’ “Rampage” has earned $187 million globally to a $120 million production budget, with $141 million from overseas. Directed by Brad Peyton and also starring Naomie Harris, the film follows Johnson’s scientist David Okoye, who...

With Roseanne back on the air after 20 years, and shows and films like Stranger Things, It and Ready Player One relying so heavily on their nostalgia factor, it’s not too surprising that we got a second Super Troopers. 17 years ago, the Broken Lizard troupe came out of nowhere, landing a deal with Fox Searchlight, grossing an unbelievable amount of money, and creating a cult hit in the process. Much of their charm feels reminiscent to that of Monty Python’s. But just as a second Holy Grail would impair the impact of the first, Super Troopers 2 has little worth laughing at other than a couple of retold jokes.
There’s no doubt in my mind that Super Troopers could have become this generation’s Police Academy. However, Jay Chandrasekhar and the rest of the Broken Lizard boys extinguished that fire when they abandoned these stoner policemen to make...

John Krasinski’s horror-thriller “A Quiet Place” is heading for a domestic box office victory with about $20 million, topping Amy Schumer’s comedy “I Feel Pretty” and Dwayne Johnson’s “Rampage,” early estimates showed Friday.
Fox’s launch of fan-funded “Super Troopers 2” could nearly double recent forecasts, and is set to finish in fourth place with about $11 million at 2,038 location, including $1.4 million from previews. Lionsgate’s opening of “Traffik” is heading for a moderate debut of $4 million at 1,046 venues.
Paramount’s third weekend of “A Quiet Place” should win what will be a quiet weekend as the horror-thriller continues to draw surprisingly well. The tale of a family under attack in a remote forest has grossed a healthy $111 million in North America in less than two weeks, including a stunning $50 million opening on April 6-8.

The opening minutes of the Broken Lizard comedy “Super Troopers 2” are so breathlessly funny they might asphyxiate you. The scene begins with a familiar set-up — a Vermont Highway Patrolman pulls over a vehicle full of pot smokers — and then ploughs through one outlandish reversal after another.
The unwritten history between the first “Super Troopers” and the second is absurdly revealed, and the returning characters from the original get aggrandized to such an outrageous extent that it somehow comes across as ironic self-flagellation.
It comes as no surprise that “Super Troopers 2” cannot maintain either that opening scene’s pace or its hilarity. That degree of madcap inanity could probably never be sustained over long periods of time without becoming exhausting. At some point the actual “movie” part of this new “Super Troopers” movie has to begin, and once it does, the whole film starts to tumble steadily downhill.

The first “Super Troopers” told the story of a group of Vermont state troopers who had so little responsibility that they pulled people over for no reason just to play whimsical improv games. They bantered, they slapsticked, and they eventually solved a big case, which proved that they weren’t totally incompetent at their jobs. It’s not a complicated movie, but it’s a likable one, and a sequel was probably inevitable. If anything, it’s hard to believe it took 17 years.
“Super Troopers 2” picks up with our heroes at an all-time low. A mysterious incident in their past has destroyed their law enforcement careers, but they are brought back together again by a bizarre revelation: a small chunk of Canada along the Vermont border has, due to an oversight, actually been part of America all this time. A police force is needed to help make the transition, and every other cop in Vermont already has their own territory, so the troopers are the only ones available to take the gig on short notice.

So it is that Thorny (Jay Chandrasekhar), Rabbit (Erik Stolhanske), Foster (Paul Soter), Mac (Steve Lemme) and Captain O’Hagan (Brian Cox) get their badges back. Unfortunately, nobody told the governor not to invite Rod Farva (Kevin Heffernan), one of the most horrible human beings on the planet, so he also returns to the force and quickly becomes the bane of everyone’s existence.
Scholarly papers should be written about the comedic versatility of a character like Farva. He’s such an off-putting oaf, and such a spiteful and sexist scumbag, that he can be the butt of literally any joke, no matter how cruel or violent, and it seems relatively fair. As a bonus, he makes all the other characters look better by comparison, so much so that he heroes of “Super Troopers” and “Super Troopers 2” perhaps only look heroic by virtue of the fact they are literally standing next to Farva.
Every time Farva says or does something over the line — like uncomfortably ogle their cultural attaché, Genevieve (Emmanuelle Chriqui) — the rest of the troopers get to tsk-tsk and say he’s taken the joke too far. But of course, Farva makes that kind of joke all the time. The inescapable irony is that Broken Lizard doesn’t disapprove enough to actually stop telling Farva’s jokes. They’re constantly trying to get away with making those jokes by saying they definitely shouldn’t be making them.

This anything-goes mentality steadily drags down “Super Troopers 2.” The film’s jokes about the differences between Canada and the United States are arch, and rather dumb. The troopers spend some time joking about Canadian clichés, like how nice everyone is and how they pronounce the word “sorry,” so it’s kind of funny when they realize that the stereotyping goes both ways. The Canadian Mounties they’re replacing — Podien (Hayes MacArthur), Bellefuille (Tyler Labine) and Archambault (Will Sasso) — have just as many tacky generalizations to make about Americans, and watching an entire roomful of Canadians make fun of the way Americans pronounce “sorry,” for once, is fair play if nothing else.
But as the troopers go about their business, investigating a smuggling operation and pulling their trademark pranks, it becomes clear that although Broken Lizard are too talented and likable to make a film entirely without laughs, they can’t entirely coast on charm and skillful comic timing.
The Canadian-stereotype gags are pervasive to the point that they eventually play less like good-natured ribbing and more like lazy joke-writing and willful ignorance. An ill-advised storyline about Thorny taking female hormone pills goes to every predictable, disappointing place you’d expect it to. And even the bread and butter of the “Super Troopers” movies, those wacky traffic stops, are a heck of a lot less funny than they ever were, because the real-world corollaries are inescapable and disturbing.
“Super Troopers 2” plays like a relic of the rowdy summer-camp movies, mostly of the 1980s, when characters who were objectively jerks could still seem like heroes if they punched upwards, at an establishment so stuffy they made any form of rebellion look noble. What “Super Troopers 2” is missing, and what the original more-or-less had, is that underdog dynamic. A big part of the problem is that the troopers are in charge this time, and they’re mostly just abusing their power for petty, selfish reasons.
So even though they sometimes land a great joke, the troopers aren’t inherently amusing or even all that likable this time around. They’re undeniably corrupt cops, even if they are relatively benign about it. “Super Troopers 2” still manages to be funny quite a bit of the time, but the word “funny” needs an asterisk next to it, warning that the laughs might carry with them a certain amount of guilt.

“Super Troopers 2” has topped Amy Schumer’s comedy “I Feel Pretty” with $1.4 million at 1,850 North American locations on Thursday night.
STXfilms’ “I Feel Pretty” took in $1 million from 2,600 sites during Thursday previews.
“Super Troopers 2” reunites the five stars of the original 2001 film — Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske, collectively known as Broken Lizard. The quintet plays profane Vermont state troopers with a penchant for pranks and feuding with other local law enforcement officers. The sequel, which was crowd-funded in 2015 with an impressive $4.4 million from fans of the original, is forecast to finish the weekend with about $6 million.
“Super Troopers 2’s” preview earnings indicate that it may outperform forecasts as it nearly matched the $1.5 million from R-rated “Blockers,” which went on to open with $20.6 million on its April 6 launch weekend. The film carries a 32% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Amy Schumer comedy I Feel Pretty from STXfilms danced to a Thursday night preview take of $1M after releasing into roughly 2,600 theaters last night at 7 Pm. How many penis jokes can you fit into a film? Super Troopers 2 tries to answer the question by pushing the subject to the max (that’s not a euphemism). The male parts get kicked, tasered, threatened of being shaved, discussed ad nauseam, and even boxed. Why they are the centerpiece of so many jokes could be analyzed on a deeper level, but that would require giving these jokes more thought than The Broken Lizard crew gave the script.
The lazy script – attributed to the entire Broken Lizard collective – doesn’t just reach for such low hanging fruit when it comes to genitalia, farts, and sex, but also in the way of making fun of Canadians. In fact, that’s the majority of the film. After a fantastical and amusing opening sequence that features a couple of cameos, the state troopers from Vermont head North across the border in order...

Attention all you Super Trooperheads, you Trooperphiles, you maple-syrup–guzzling guys with your #MeowToo hashtags at the ready – your prayers, for better or worse, have finally been answered and crowd-funded. Chances are you either squealed with delight upon the news of a second Super Troopers flick, before strapping on your bulletproof cup and threatening to pistol-whip the next guy that says "shenanigans" ... or you shrugged. They call 'em cult movies for a reason, and the 2001 tale by the Broken Lizard troupe of Vermont highway patrolmen-behaving-badly is really a you're-in-or-you're-out phenomenon.

Seventeen years after the original “Super Troopers,” the sequel is arriving in theaters with a massive assist from fans of the wacky police comedy.
“I’ve been on a 17-city tour for the fan screenings, and we’ve been going out to party and I’ve been performing stand-up between the screenings, so it’s been a busy time,” director Jay Chandrasekhar told Variety.
“At one point in Vancouver, we walked into a bar and there were 10 guys dressed like us in state trooper gear,” he recalled. “There’s a level of fan interest that’s very gratifying.”
“Super Troopers 2” begins opening Thursday night in North America in previews and expands to 2,040 locations Friday. The film reunites all five Troopers from the original film — Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske — collectively known as Broken Lizard. Amy Schumer’s new comedy “I Feel Pretty” is on track for a disappointing third-place finish in its debut this weekend — a marked decline in the comedian’s fortunes at the box office.
Three years ago, Schumer left a big mark on the box office with her debut film “Trainwreck,” which opened to $30 million and went on to gross $140.7 million worldwide. But last year’s sophomore effort, “Snatched,” flopped in the shadow of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” opening to $19.5 million and only grossing $60.8 million globally.
“I Feel Pretty,” which stars Schumer as a woman who is knocked out while trying to lose weight and wakes up with a completely new perspective about her body, is opening in 3,400 locations. Unlike Schumer’s previous films, “I Feel Pretty” is rated PG-13 instead of R. This could help the film — the directorial debut of Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein — find a wider audience in coming weeks.

Analysts who spoke with TheWrap say that Paramount’s “A Quiet Place” and New Line’s “Rampage” will once again contend for the No. 1 spot, with the edge being given to “A Quiet Place” after it held its second-weekend drop-off to 34 percent.
“A Quiet Place” is looking at a third weekend total in the low $20 million range, with “Rampage” expected to take a 45-50 percent drop and make a second weekend total in the high teens.
This weekend’s list of wide releases consists of two other films that are all expected to open to under $20 million.

Fox Searchlight’s “Super Troopers 2,” the sequel to the cult comedy by Jay Chandrasekhar. It was released in February 2002 and opened to $6.2 million — $9.8 million in today’s dollars — and the sequel is expected to open to $8-9 million this weekend.

With Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War” a week away, most studios are giving this weekend a wide berth. No studio wants to put out a major release this weekend only to have moviegoers ignore it next week in favor of the most anticipated film of the year.
In fact, Warner Bros. moved “Rampage” up to last week after “Avengers” was bumped from May 4 to April 27.

A little over a decade ago, Steve Lemme was driving on the I-5 up to the San Jose Film Festival when he got pulled over going, he says, about 120 miles per hour. The police officer approached his car, and Lemme rolled down his window, preparing for a lecture and a ticket.
"The cop was like, 'Mister, do you have any idea how fast – Super Troopers?!'" Lemme says, his voice hiking up in mock-surprise at the title of the 2001 film he co-wrote and starred in with his partners in the comedy troupe Broken Lizard.

It’s 2018, ’80s nostalgia is a commodity, “Roseanne” is back on the airwaves, and Sony’s trying to revive “Men in Black.” As pop culture goes into the weeds, of course there’s a sequel to “Super Troopers.” The anarchic 2001 comedy from the Broken Lizard troupe came out of nowhere to find a home with Fox Searchlight, generate nearly 20 times its budget at the box office, and become a cult hit. The depraved antics of raunchy highway patrolmen, more keen on pranking civilians than keeping them safe, could have birthed a next-gen “Police Academy” — but Broken Lizard frontman Jay Chandrasekhar, who directed the first installment, chose to hone his penchant for crass comedy with “The Dukes of Hazard” and “Beerfest,” among others.
