Netflix's The Sandman hasn't been given the giant multi-season run that fans of the graphic novels were hoping for, but at least it gets to somewhat bring its story to a close in the upcoming second and final season. With production underway, a major character in Season 2 has just been recast for the second time. Across his millennia-long journey, Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) meets various significant figures from history, including none other than William Shakespeare. In the comics, Shakespeare plays an important role in shaping Morpheus as a character, and appears in some of the best issues of disgraced author Neil Gaiman's comics. Like the rest of The Sandman comics, Netflix is rushing to cram in Shakespeare's story in the final season, as evident by the latest casting announcement.
Per Redanian Intelligence, The Sandman Season 2 has just cast its third William Shakespeare. Will Keen, best known for his roles...

André Holland is a busy man. His recent TV series The Big Cigar and Terminator Zero were great, and his new film The Actor is a personal favorite, a film noir masterpiece. He is also starring in this year's The Dutchman, Once Again... (Statues Never Die), and Love, Brooklyn, along with the film The Revisionist, which stars Holland alongside Dustin Hoffman, Alison Brie, and Tom Sturridge. Like The Actor, The Revisionist deals with the blurring of lines between art and life, truth and fiction, identity and performance; Holland plays the titular actor in The Actor and a writer in The Revisionist. Though, as Holland told MovieWeb in a recent interview, the two films are different in many ways.
"It's completely different, and it's still very much [happening]," said Holland (who is also currently attending Harvard Divinity School). "We just finished maybe six weeks ago, something like that, or maybe two months.

With the ongoing allegations and lawsuit against disgraced author Neil Gaiman, many upcoming adaptations of his works have been shelved by their respective studios. One such series was Dead Boy Detectives, a spin-off from Netflix's The Sandman universe, which premiered last year. The series was a hit for the streamer, holding a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes. But, it was one of the first shows to be axed when Gaiman was first accused of sexual misconduct and assault in early August, and Dead Boy Detectives Season 2 (among other adaptations) was canceled the same month.
Fans of the series mourned the loss, desperate to see Charles Rowland and Edwin Payne return to our screens for another season. Thankfully, that wish has been granted, just not in the way we might have hoped. The Dead Boy Detectives will return, making their final appearance in Season 2 of The Sandman — which will be the flagship series' last.

Big news, Dead Boy Detectives fans! While the ‘Sandman Universe’ show may not be returning for a second season, star Jayden Revri (Charles Rowland) is confirmed to appear in the final season of The Sandman, coming later this year!
In January, Netflix confirmed that The Sandman season 2 would be the end of the road for the fantasy series. We pretty much knew the show’s fate anyway, given that leaks from the set for the upcoming season showed that the team was filming scenes from the end of the comics. Hearing that the show was ending, while disappointing, wasn’t much of a surprise. The final season is confirmed to be released in 2025.
So far, we know that The Sandman season 2 will cover some of the comic’s most revered stories, including the ‘Season of Mists’ and ‘Brief Lives’ story arcs. It’ll also tell numerous beloved one-shot tales,...

Updated with the latest: The Sandman, based on the comics by Neil Gaiman, will end with its second season. This news came following allegations of misconduct and sexual assault against Gaiman, which has resulted in his other projects being paused or canceled. The decision to end the story with Season 2 was made before filming on the second installment began.
“‘The Sandman’ series has always been focused exclusively on Dream’s story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season,” showrunner Allan Heinberg wrote in a post shared on X. “We are extremely grateful to Netflix for bringing the team all back together and giving us the time and resources to make a faithful adaptation in a way that we hope will surprise and delight the comics’ loyal readers as well as fans of our show.

Neil Gaiman is a best-selling fantasy author whose works have been adapted in multiple successful TV and film adaptations. He had even more in the works, including Netflix's The Sandman, an ordered adaptation of The Graveyard Book with Disney, and Prime Video's Good Omens.
Following the details of sexual assault allegations that came out in a lengthy report, Gaiman has started losing all of them. Following the initial claims, which came out in July 2024, Prime Video paused production for Good Omens Season 3, which will end with one final episode instead of a full season. Disney canceled the adaptation of The Graveyard Book, and now Netflix has just decided to cancel The Sandman, per Variety. However, there is one small piece of good news.

Whoa! We've got some disappointing news to share... In a surprising turn of events, Netflix has just given the boot to one of its popular dark fantasy series right before the launch of its upcoming season. The Sandman has hit a dead end. After the release of its long-awaited second season this year, the series will not continue.
Are we entirely surprised by this news? Not necessarily. There's been a lot of interesting things going on behind the scenes involving one of the show's creators. Neil Gaiman, the creator of The Sandman comic and co-creator of the Netflix television series adaptation, has recently faced accusations of sexual assault from multiple women. However, despite how this might seem, it doesn’t appear to be the reason for the show’s cancellation.
Variety reported that during the production of season 2, sources connected to the project informed them that The Sandman was expected...

All good dreams must come to an end sooner or later, and so it goes that a very good Dream is about to come to an end imminently on Netflix. In news that will likely come as a surprise to precisely nobody, today the streaming giant has announced that its dark fantasy epic The Sandman will conclude with the release of its upcoming second season. Officially, the line is that the series is finishing because the story of Tom Sturridge's Morpheus — aka Dream — is coming to its natural end. And while that is doubtless a key factor, much like Prime Video's suddenly cut short Good Omens, it's hard not to assume that the serious and ongoing allegations of sexual misconduct that have been brought against creator Neil Gaiman in recent months have played their part in Netflix's decision to pull the plug. You can read a statement on the...

Gaiman's original comic revolves around Dream of the Endless (Tom Sturridge), the immortal lord of dreams. That comic is very long and could easily fill up more seasons of TV. Showrunner Allan Heinberg made a statement to Variety explaining why the show was wrapping up so quickly:

Netflix might have kicked off the new year with an early renewal for one hit series, but it seems the first month of 2025 is coming to an end with the cancellation of another. As first reported by Variety, Netflix has announced that the upcoming second season of The Sandman will now also serve as its final season with the show calling it quits after just two seasons – though we can’t say we’re surprised by this particular move.
News of the decision to end the show after its upcoming second season comes on the heels of a string of sexual misconduct accusations against Neil Gaiman have come to light. Studio heads have rightfully been looking to distance themselves from Gaiman in the wake of the accusations and Netflix is the latest to follow suit in severing ties with Gaiman, who created The Sandman for DC Comics and developed the show for TV.

The Sandman's upcoming second season will be the final run of episodes for the Netflix show based on the graphic novels by Neil Gaiman.
Season 2 of The Sandman is set to arrive on Netflix this year amid a stream of allegations of abuse against creator Gaiman, which has seen several in-development projects being scrapped or wound down in the last several weeks. A new poster for the series has marked the new season as “The Final Season,” marking the end of a series that spent decades in the making, only to be seemingly cut short. However, according to showrunner Allan Heinberg, the cancelation has not come about as a result of Gaiman’s recent legal issues, but more a culmination of the material available about the main subject of the show – Morpheus aka Dream, played by Tom Sturridge. Netflix will close out its comic-book series The Sandman with the forthcoming second season.
The streamer made the announcement on social media Friday, saying the second season — due sometime later this year — will conclude the story. The decision to end the show also comes as Neil Gaiman, who created the Sandman comic and developed and executive produces the series, has been accused of sexual assault and misconduct by several women. Gaiman has denied the allegations.
Sources say the second season of The Sandman will conclude the story arc for Dream (Tom Sturridge), the show’s central character. Production on the season wrapped last summer.

Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” will end with its upcoming second season.
“The Sandman” Season 2 has been a long time coming. The first season debuted in August 2022, and it wasn’t renewed at Netflix until November of that year. At that time, Netflix was also hesitant to label it as a second season at all, choosing instead to say it was “a continuation of ‘The Sandman’ world,” and wouldn’t commit to an episode count. Variety has confirmed the second season of “The Sandman” was intended to be the last prior to filming in 2023.

“The Sandman series has always been focused exclusively on Dream’s story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season,” showrunner Allan Heinberg told Netflix. “We are extremely grateful to Netflix for bringing the team all back together and giving us the time and resources to make a faithful adaptation in a way that we hope will surprise and delight the comics’ loyal readers as well as fans of our show.”

Dark Horse Comics has dropped Neil Gaiman, cancelling his Anansi Boys comic series, in the wake of sexual assault allegations brought against the author.
The publisher posted to X Friday night writing, “Dark Horse takes seriously the allegations against Neil Gaiman and we are no longer publishing his works. Confirming that the ‘Anansi Boys’ comic series and collected volume have been canceled.”
U.K.-based Tortoise Media spotlighted accounts from four women — two who came forward in early July 2024 and two more who told their stories at the end of the month — about their encounters with the Coraline and Sandman creator.
The comic books are the latest projects in Gaiman’s creative catalogue that have paused or been canceled in light of the news, which Gaiman addressed on his personal blog, denying the allegations.

As 2025 dawns, fans of several sci-fi and fantasy shows may be worried about incoming cancellations!
As great as it is to see a lot of sci-fi and fantasy shows rising up in the last few years, there's always the risk of some series ending sooner than expected. 2024 saw a lot of shows axed, many after just one year. That includes highly anticipated series like The Acolyte, Dead Boy Detectives and more. The same could happen in 2025, with several shows potentially on the chopping block.
Some are obvious due to lower viewership. Others may be huge and seemingly successful, but various factors could work against them. Here are 15 genre shows in danger of getting canceled this year.

If you've ever wondered what it would look like should Mr. Napkin Head be in control of a nuclear arsenal, wonder no longer with the confirmation from actor Jude Law that he will be playing the Russian president Vladimir Putin in The Wizard of the Kremlin from director Olivier Assayas. Law’s involvement in the film was first revealed last spring, though specifics about his role were kept under wraps. The movie, based on Giuliano da Empoli’s best-selling novel of the same name, centres on a young filmmaker (played by Paul Dano) who unexpectedly becomes a key advisor to Putin during his ascent to power in post-Soviet Russia. One heck of an internship, that one. The movie's cast is rounded out by Alicia Vikander (who starred alongside Law in 2023’s Firebrand), Zach Galifianakis, and Tom Sturridge.

Last year, it was reported that Jude Law would be co-starring in director Olivier Assayas’ new movie The Wizard of the Kremlin without specifying his role. Now, the actor has confirmed he will be playing Vladimir Putin in the adaption of Giuliano da Empoli’s novel of the same name.
In a recent interview with Deadline, Law opened up about the intimidating task of playing the Russian dictator. “At the moment it looks like an Everest to climb, so I’m in the foothills looking up thinking, ‘Oh Christ, what have I said?’” he revealed. “That’s often how I feel whilst I say yes. I was going, ‘Oh God, how am I going to do this?’ But anyway, that’s for me to sort out.”

The Dcu (transitioned from Dceu), is overlooking an eventful year with 2025. Although this is a total revamp of the established series, some projects are just too good to not return. With trust in the old and hopes for the new, DC Studios has presented a promising lineup for the year. These projects are meant to replenish the roots DC has in its fans’ hearts.
Following are movies and TV shows set by studio heads to gain critical acclaim, TV ratings, and box office figures. And hopefully, put the franchise back on the map.

Jenna Coleman, who portrays Johanna Constantine in Netflix’s The Sandman, is coming back for the upcoming second season. Although she can’t reveal many details about her return — the NDAs are strict — the British actress recently confirmed that she will appear in the upcoming new episodes.
Jenna Coleman played sorcerer and occultist for hire Johanna Constantine in season 1. Her big appearance came in episode 3, "Dream a Little Dream of Me," where she assists Dream (Tom Sturridge) in recovering his pouch of sand. She would also return later in episode 6, "The Sound of Her Wings," to play Lady Johanna Constantine, her other character's ancestor.
Looking ahead to season 2, it seems her character will take on a larger role than she has in The Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman, though we don't know by how much. On the page, the character is John Constantine, but the show switched things up. While...

Sandman season 2 news has been coming in steadily since the show's explosive debut on Netflix, and already the surreal fantasy drama looks set to be just as mind-bending the second time around. Executive produced and created by Neil Gaiman, The Sandman is the long-anticipated adaptation of his dark fantasy graphic novel series. The Sandman stars Tom Sturridge as Dream of the Endless/Morpheus, after he awakens from a century-long slumber. The Sandman season 1 adapts the first two volumes of Gaiman's graphic novels, Preludes and Nocturnes and The Doll's House.
The first five episodes encompass Preludes and Nocturnes, chronicling how Morpheus was imprisoned for over a century and went on a quest to retrieve his magical symbols of office and repair his realm, the Dreaming. The final four episodes of The Sandman season 1 adapt The Doll's House story, introducing Rose Walker (Vanesu Samunyai), a Dream Vortex, and featuring Morpheus' final showdown...

DC has an interesting slate of movies and shows coming in 2025 to kick off a new period for the franchise!
2024 was, in many ways, the end of an era for DC Comics. The Dceu, with its tortured history, ended with the year prior with Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom sinking fast, so there weren't any new films from that franchise this year. The CW's Arroweverse also closed out after 12 years with Superman and Lois, while their animated film universe also ended with the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy.
It's a new day for DC Comics on TV and film, with James Gunn and Peter Safran crafting a new DC Universe. There have been shifts as The Batman II is now delayed until 2026, and other projects are in the works. So DC's 2025 slate isn't as huge as Marvel's, but there are new notable entries coming, so here's a calendar of...

Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for the second season of The Sandman, but we do know that the DC Comics adaptation will return to our screens at some point in 2025.
Now, TV Line has shared our first official look at the returning Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), who appears to be preparing to face an unknown threat... with one hand behind his back (always the show-off).
Though official season 2 plot details have not been disclosed, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect, and a recently-released featurette spotlighted shots from two key sequences: The Endless family meeting that kickstarts the events of Season of Mists (and actually lays the groundwork for the entire saga), and the banquet Morpheus holds in his realm in an attempt to find the right person to take up a very important position.

Directed by Thomas Napper, Widow Clicquot (2024) features Haley Bennett, Tom Sturridge, and Sam Riley in a compelling retelling of the extraordinary life of Madame Clicquot Ponsardin. Defying the oppressive norms of patriarchy, Madame Clicquot became one of the first women to break through in the male-dominated champagne industry, carving out a legacy that remains iconic.
The film captures her relentless struggle to establish herself in a world determined to see her fail, battling against the odds to build her empire. However, while the story is inspiring, the narrative falls short of fully immersing the audience in the depth of her challenges and victories. By its conclusion, the film feels less like a cohesive portrait of her legacy and more like a series of loosely connected snapshots of her remarkable journey.

Inevitably, fans will have to say goodbye to a few Netflix shows in 2025. It's the unfortunate reality of the TV industry. Shows fans love get canceled every year.
I shared a list of five Netflix shows that will probably be canceled in 2025, but there's good news. The first bit of good news is that, for some of the shows on the list, there's still time for fans to save some of these shows by getting viewership numbers up. There are always behind-the-scenes things that can get in the way, but for the most part, it comes down to if enough fans are watching to justify the budget and other costs for Netflix.
Looking at the bigger picture, there are a lot of Netflix shows that are probably safe. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic and writers' and actors' strikes, there are a lot of big shows coming back in 2025. Some of...

Hollywood has seen plenty of relationships with big age gaps, but when it comes to older women dating younger men, people suddenly tend to have different and negative reactions. At least that is what Sienna Miller herself felt when she initially got together with her boyfriend Oli Green, who is 15 years her junior.

After myriad delays, Netflix's The Sandman season 2 finally wrapped filming earlier this year. With the show now in post-production, we're very close to seeing Dream (Tom Sturridge) and the rest of the Endless return to our screens for more ethereal stories in the saga.
One character everyone can't wait to see return is Desire, played by Mason Alexander Park. Desire is casually cruel and destructive. In season 1, Desire constantly meddles with Dream's affairs. Fans really took to the character, and everyone can't wait to see what's in store with them for season 2.
Currently, we know that season 2 will most likely be the show's final season. It'll cover the Season of Mists and Brief Lives story arcs, as well as various one-shot stories from the comic by Neil Gaiman. Leaks from filming suggest that the show also covers the comic's endgame volume, The Kindly Ones. With a reported 12 episodes, that's...
