Keeping up with his practice of shooting and announcing films one after the other, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, who was most recently seen in ‘Ram Setu’, is set to headline yet another film, this time a biopic.
This biopic is of mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill who, under very difficult circumstances, saved miners trapped in a flooded coal mine in Raniganj of West Bengal in 1989. Born on November 22, 1939, in Amritsar, Gill was a Khalsa College alum, and was awarded Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak by President Ramaswamy Venkataraman in 1991.
Raniganj coal mine, India’s first coal mine, was opened in 1774 after John Sumner and Suetonius Grant Heatly of the British East India Company acquired a licence for mining activities. The mine was nationalised in 1974 and was acquired by the Coal Mines Authority of India.
The film, touted to be India’s first coal mine rescue film, will see Akshay Kumar playing the lead role.

George Ogilvie, who co-directed on the third Mad Max film, “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome,” along with George Miller, and led Russell Crowe in his film screen debut in “The Crossing,” has died in Australia. He was 89.
For the 1985 “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome,” Ogilvie focused on working with the cast on dialogue and dramatization while co-director Miller focused on the action sequences. He had previously worked with “Mad Max” star Mel Gibson in the Nimrod Theatre Company’s “Death of a Salesman.”
Ogilvie guided a then 26-year-old Russell Crowe through his first feature film in the 1990 Australian coming-of-age drama, “The Crossing.”
“Oh I just love him,” said Ogilvie of Crowe in a 2016 interview with The Sunday Morning Herald. “He was a force. He worked hard, but he did expect everyone around him to work hard as well.”

South African director Neill Blomkamp made his stellar directorial debut with 2009's District 9, which was followed up by Elysium and this weekend's Chappie. Ever since District 9 came out, fans have been pining for the sequel District 10, but there is very little we know about the project except for the title. Of course, now the director is working on bringing Alien 5 to the big screen, with Sigourney Weaver reprising her role as Ripley and original Alien director Ridley Scott producing, so it may be quite some time before we ever see District 10 on the big screen. During an interview with IGN, Neill Blomkamp revealed that he does have an idea for District 10.
"I have an idea for District 10, which is really cool. The problem is I feel like Chappie is the end of three films that have a similar stylistic approach to them. Chappie is the odd one out...

Director Neill Blomkamp has good news and bad news for fans of District 9 who are clamoring for the sequel District 10. The good news is that he and co-writer Terri Tatchell have an 18-page treatment written out for the follow-up, but the bad news is the filmmaker isn't quite ready to commit to it yet.
The filmmaker wouldn't go into any specific details regarding the story, except that his idea is, "really f---ing cool."
He also spoke briefly about Chappie, which already has the director's District 9 and Elysium star Sharlto Copley confirmed to star, and Dev Patel in talks to join the cast. Here's what he had to say about the story, which centers on a sentient android robot.
"If something is as smart as you, do you treat it differently if it isn't a human? It's fairly touching. But, you know, fraught with gunfire."

Sharlto Copley could return as Wikus in a District 9 sequel Last year's sci-fi phenomena District 9 brought new opportunities for the star of the film, Sharlto Copley, who will appear as Murdock in The A-Team this summer. Empire recently spoke with Copley about his new film, but he also revealed some details on a follow-up to District 9.
"Neil wants it and I want it. Neil's doing another film first. Then I think if everything goes according to plan we'll do the second film in about two years time. That story can go in so many different ways. There¹s a whole universe. I'm sure a lot of writers say that, but we actually have an entire universe."
Director Neill Blomkamp revealed back in January that he was also considering a prequel to the film, which Copley touched on as well.
