The Disney Princess brand is one of The Walt Disney Company's hottest properties, but not every one of its endeavors has been a success. Although a princess (Snow White) was the beginning of Disney feature-length animated films, centering on one doesn't always guarantee success. Sleeping Beauty, for example, did not fare well at the box office upon its first release. Still, when Disney was in its Dark Ages in the 1980s, it was another princess (Ariel) featured in The Little Mermaid that kicked off Disney's Renaissance. And so, in the early 2000s, when Disney chose to build an entire brand around its catalog of princesses, statistically, they were hedging their bets on a relatively safe property.

The Simpsons has recast plenty of characters over the years, but there are some that have been retired instead. Thanks to the animated nature of The Simpsons, many residents of Springfield haven't aged in the show's thirty-six seasons on the air. This has helped keep The Simspons relevant for generations, gives it some of its most potent enduring qualities, and has allowed the same voice actors to play the show's most consistent characters for decades. However, there are some situations where recastings are inevitable.
Pamela Hayden's departure from The Simpsons means that fixtures of the show like Milhouse Van Houten will need to be recast going forward. This could allow the character to still be in the show. However, other characters were formally retired from the series in light of tragic passing and changing cultural perspectives. There doesn't seem to be a firm rule determining which characters are recast and which are retired,...

The Simpsons is about to lose one of its longest-running voice actors. Pamela Hayden, who voices Milhouse Van Houten, Jimbo Jones, Rod Flanders, Sarah Wiggum, Janey Powell, and more, has announced that she has retired from The Simpsons after 35 years. Everything is not coming up Milhouse.
“People come up to me and they quote Milhouse lines,” said Hayden in a video announcing her retirement. “People are always saying what a nerd he is. But one thing that I love about Milhouse is he’s always getting knocked down, but he keeps getting up. I love the little guy.” Hayden continued, “The time has come for me to hang up my microphone, but how do I say goodbye to The Simpsons?……not easily. It’s been an honor and a joy to have worked on such a funny, witty, and groundbreaking show, and to give voice to Milhouse and Jimbo Jones,...

After 35 years, The Simpsons is losing one of its most beloved cast members. The Simpsons' primary cast of characters has grown since the main characters Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie debuted in a series of shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show. One particular fan-favorite was Milhouse Van Houten, Bart's best friend, who debuted in a Butterfinger commercial before becoming part of the main series. Milhouse has often been framed as the square friend to Bart's cool guy, and some of the series' best lines have come courtesy of him and his voice actor, Pamela Hayden. But all great things must come to an end.
Pamela Hayden is officially set to retire from The Simpsons (via Deadline). While Hayden is best known for voicing Milhouse Van Houten, she has contributed to many other iconic voices in the series. These include bullying Jimbo Jones, Ned Flander's son Rod, and many other minor supporting characters.

The following contains mild spoilers for The Simpsons season 36 episode 5, "Treehouse of Horror Xxxv," now streaming on HuluA recurring guest actor on The Simpsons' has become crucial to the show, and his role in the show's Venom parody proves it. While most of Springfield is voiced by the show's cast of Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Harry Shearer, and Hank Azaria, other actors like Maggie Roswell have brought their own consistent vibes to the show. This is on top of the impressive legacy of deceased actors like Phil Hartman, Marcia Wallace and Russi Taylor, who brought an indeniable character to Springfield and the Simpsons family tree.
A frequent guest star in recent seasons of the show has become a crucial figure within the show's ecosystem, playing a number of minor roles while taking over some long-standing ones in the process. This actor is central to season 36's "Treehouse of Horror Xxxv,...

The smug, arrogant Comic Book Guy (Hank Azaria), proprietor of the Android's Dungeon, first appeared in the "The Simpsons" episode "Three Men and a Comic Book". In the episode, he sold a rare and expensive copy of "Radioactive Man" #1 to the young collectors Bart (Nancy Cartwright), Milhouse (Pamela Hayden), and Martin (Russi Taylor). The comic cost $100 -- a fortune to the three young boys -- and they had to pool their money to make the sacred purchase.
The trio, however, never decided who would serve as the comic book's official caretaker, and they immediately became suspicious that one of them was angling to steal it from the other two. A "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" drama slowly unfolds. The Comic Book Guy, having seen the boys' folly beforehand, became a Mephistophelean figure, cackling at his customers' hubris.

In a year in which The Boy and the Heron opened at #1 and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse pushed the boundaries of animation, Migration might seem a bit stuck in the past. The latest offering from Illumination – the Minions folks – is yet another family story of anthropomorphized animals on a road trip, but its warmth and humor make it a perfectly acceptable holiday distraction.

We all remember the time in our childhood when our parents/guardians sat us down and explained to us one of the hard truths of life: voice actors don't live forever. And we cried, and started pleading with them, asking "what about Bugs Bunny? He's had a consistent voice for over a hundred years!" To which they replied, "no he hasn't." And with tears in our eyes, we ran to our rooms, saving our caretakers from having to confront their own mortality.
When the voice actor of an iconic character passes away, the question of how to proceed with that character inevitably arises. For some, like Edna Krabappel of "The Simpsons," the character was respectfully retired after voice actor Marcia Wallace died. But for other characters, especially ones that have existed for decades and decades, a replacement must be found. This was the case with Minnie Mouse, whose longtime voice actor,...

For more than three decades, voice actor Russi Taylor voiced the much-beloved Disney character Minnie Mouse, becoming one of the defining characters in American childhood for decades. After Taylor passed away in 2019, Kaitlyn Robrock took over the role. Taylor had been one of Robrock's heroes growing up and taking on the role to continue the grand legacy of Minnie Mouse was a dream come true. With dreams, though, come incredibly high expectations, and when you're working for Disney the expectations are so high sometimes that they seem nigh impossible to achieve.
Stepping into the shoes of such an iconic vocal role like Minnie Mouse carries with it huge pressure. With a character that's been around for decades, there's a memory we have of Minnie Mouse's voice that still lingers. The challenge of anyone taking on a role like this is audiences will quickly sense a disturbance in the Force if things change even slightly.

Minnie Mouse is, dare I say it, an iconic character. She, Mickey, and all their Disney cartoon pals have been entertaining children for generations.
For decades, Minnie was voiced by Russi Taylor. After Taylor passed in 2019, however, voice actor Kaitlyn Robrock took on the Minnie mantle and is bringing her to life on various shows as well as certain attractions in Disney's theme parks.
Earlier this month, I had the chance to speak with Robrock during Dragon Con, a 65,000-person convention in Atlanta that celebrates fandoms of all kinds, where Robrock was a guest. We talked about how she got into voice acting in general, including her jump from Adult Swim cartoons to Minnie, and what it's like voicing other characters, such as the Tusken raiders on "The Book of Boba Fett."
This interview has been lightly edited for clarity and brevity.

If there is one thing that becomes crystal clear as you watch “Deadly Women,” it is that crime has no gender. This crime show focuses on acts of crime — murder primarily — committed by women, which explains the title.
“Deadly Women” comes highly rated among TV series within the crime documentary genre — like “American Crime Story” and “Homicide Hunters.” If you love crime documentaries then this has got to be on your watch list.

This Ducktales review contains spoilers.
Kid Donald and Della are the best. The absolute freaking best. Donald’s grumpy grunge boy attitude, Della’s infectious adventuring spirit, they’re both wonderful contrasts to each other that make this episode a blast. Now normally I’m not a big fan of “what if character but they are kid/baby.” Oh sure it’s a license to print money for most franchises but it often lacks a soul. Not here though. DuckTales is too good for that.
This isn’t just a More kid-fied version of the DuckTales you know, it’s a chance to see your favorite characters experience a huge moment in their lives; their first adventure. This is a moment that defines them and lays the groundwork for the future.

America’s favorite nuclear family has joined Disney, and it’s a surprisingly good fit. “The Simpsons” made its first-ever appearance at the D23 Expo on Saturday to inaugurate a new era of fox and mouse living in harmony after the acquisition of Fox by Disney in March.

Richard A. Fox, owner of Fox Theaters and the last volunteer president of the National Association of Theatre Owners, died this weekend at the age of 90, according to an announcement from Nato.
Born in Buffalo, New York, in 1929, Fox served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army before launching the Fox Theatres chain in 1957. The chain began with the Sinking Spring Drive-In Theatre — known for having the “world’s largest CinemaScope screen” — and expanded to 25 locations in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Florida with over 100 combined screens and over 1,000 employees.
In 1984, he was elected Nato president and “was a formidable leader of theatrical exhibition at a time when the industry wrestled with existential issues ranging from contentious trade practices to competition from new technologies,” according to his family. His son, Donald, now serves as CEO of Fox Theatres.

Lorne Michaels continues to pull ahead with the most Emmy nominations in history for an individual. The “Saturday Night Live” creator and executive producer added a writing nomination to his tally in 2018, bringing his total to 82 — ahead of now-retired HBO documentary maven Sheila Nevins, who’s in second place with 76.
Nevins is still the person with the most Emmys won as an individual in history, at 30.
Speaking of Michaels, it was another stellar season for “Saturday Night Live,” which increased its total Emmy nominations to 252 (adding 21 more this year). But the big change in 2018 is for second place: The return of “Game of Thrones” netted 22 nominations for the HBO series, bringing its total haul over seven seasons to 129. That puts it ahead of long-time leader “ER,” which amassed 124 nominations over its 15 seasons, and now drops to third.

Finally, some good news for Jared Fogle. The disgraced former Subway pitchman, who’s currently serving more than 15 years in prison for conspiracy to receive child pornography and traveling to have sex with a minor, is now free from a lawsuit filed against him by one of his victims. The anonymous plaintiff, identified only as a female minor who at the time of the alleged incidents lived in Connersville, Indiana, filed suit in March. Russell Taylor, the former executive director of Fogle’s charity, The Jared Foundation, and Taylor’s wife, Angela Taylor, were also named in the suit. Also Read: Jared Fogle Loses.
