The brilliant creator behind Netflix's hit comedy series I Think You Should Leave is revving up a new project for HBO. Tim Robinson is co-creating and starring in The Chair Company, which has just been greenlit by the premium cable channel. The cast includes Lake Bell, Sophia Lillis, Will Price, and Joseph Tudisco. Meanwhile, Robinson is currently set to star in a feature film alongside Paul Rudd titled Friendship, which features his penchant for awkward humor on the big screen.

It doesn’t sound like HBO thinks Tim Robinson should leave, after all. In fact, the premium network just ordered a new series from the comedian, titled “The Chair Company.”

The half-hour comedy, which was granted a pilot order in April, follows a man named William Ronald Trosper (Robinson), who finds himself “investigating a far-reaching conspiracy” after an embarrassing incident at work.

Robinson and Zach Kanin, who created “I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson” together, will serve as writers and executive producers for “The Chair Company.” Adam McKay and Todd Schulman also executive produce for HyperObject Industries, with Igor Srubshchik serving as an EP and Andrew DeYoung directing and executive producing the pilot.

HBO has placed a series order for The Chair Company, a comedy series co-created by and starring Tim Robinson of Netflix’s Emmy-winning sketch show I Think You Should Leave. Zach Kanin, a longtime collaborator of Robinson’s on Itysl, Saturday Night Live and Comedy Central’s Detroiters, co-created the show with Robinson; both will write and executive produce.

Adam McKay and Todd Schulman also executive produce via their HyperObject Industries, along with Igor Srubshchik. Andrew DeYoung — who helmed Robinson’s feature film Friendship — directed and executive produced the pilot.

The Chair Company will follow a man named William Ronald Trosper (Robinson) who, after an embarrassing incident at work, finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy.

Robinson will co-create the series with his Itysl writing partner Zach Kanin and star as William Ronald Trosper, who “finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy” following “an embarrassing incident at work,” per the official synopsis.

HBO has formally ordered “The Chair Company,” the comedy series starring and co-created by Tim Robinson.

The project was originally announced with a pilot order back in April. Robinson co-created the series with Zach Kanin, with both also serving as executive producers.

The official logline states, “After an embarrassing incident at work, a man (Robinson) finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy.”

Robinson stars as William Ronald Trosper. The cast also includes Lake Bell as Barb Trosper, Sophia Lillis as Natalie Trosper, Will Price as Seth Trosper, and Joseph Tudisco as Mike Santini. Lou Diamond Phillips guest starred in the pilot as Jeff Levjman.

Along with Robinsin and Kanin, Adam McKay and Todd Schulman executive produce “The Chair Company” via HyperObject Industries. Igor Srubshchik is also an executive producer. Andrew DeYoung executive produced and directed the pilot.

HBO has picked up to series The Chair Company, its half-hour comedy pilot starring Tim Robinson who co-wrote it with his writing partner Zach Kanin.

The pickup for The Chair Company, which Robinson and Kanin executive produce with Adam McKay and Todd Schulman, follows the series order earlier this week for HBO’s other 2024 comedy pilot, an untitled ensemble half-hour written, executive produced by and starring Rachel Sennott, making for a 2-for-2 pilot-to-series batting average.

With HBO also recently handing a straight-to-series order to a Bill Lawrence-Matt Tarses comedy starring Steve Carell, this marks the largest contingent of new comedy series at the premium network in years as it has ramped up half-hour development in light of stalwarts Curb Your Enthusiasm and Barry coming to an end and the pending departure of Somebody, Somewhere.

Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin’s HBO comedy pilot “The Chair Company” has added five new cast members, Variety has learned exclusively.

Lake Bell, Sophia Lillis, Will Price, Joseph Tudisco, and Lou Diamond Phillips will all appear in the pilot. Phillips will be a guest star while the other four will be series regulars. Bell will play Barb Trosper, with Lillis as Natalie Trosper, Price as Seth Trosper, and Tudisco as Mike Santini. Phillips will appear as Jeff Levjman.

As previously announced, Robinson will star in the pilot. The official logline for “The Chair Company” states, “After an embarrassing incident at work a man finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy.”
