One of the most popular Super Bowl Lix commercials featured The Muppets in an ad for Booking.com. Despite airing late in the fourth quarter when the game was already decided, the commercial had fans talking and the consensus was, the beloved franchise needs to return, and it needs to be done right.
As with many Super Bowl Lix commercials, the one featuring The Muppets debuted about nine to ten days before the big game. As of this writing, it has garnered 93 million views and there is an overall feeling of nostalgia attached to seeing Jim Henson's famous creations again, even if it's a 30-second commercial for a travel booking website.
One fan said it best on X, formerly Twitter (via ComicBook):
"The Muppets doing a Super Bowl ad and yet Still no news of a new Muppets film in the works [is where we have] gone wrong as a nation."

Along with the first movie in the animated franchise, there are plenty of movies like Sing 2 that capture the same magic that makes the family-friendly sequel such a gem. Much like its predecessor, Sing 2 is a jukebox musical and features a satirical look at the entertainment industry. This time around, Buster Moon and his friends are organizing another big show to impress a media mogul, which also includes convincing a reclusive rock star to come out of retirement and join them on stage.
The movie is an entertaining bit of fun for all ages, continuing the winning combination of popular music and adorable animal characters. While it has its own charm, there are some other great movies that share similarities fans may find interesting. Whether it is the celebration of underdogs showcasing their talents, the excitement of putting on a big show, or other animated movies with a musical energy,...

The Count Of Monte Cristo is a classic novel that has been adapted many times for the screen, and though many might remember the title from assigned reading in high school, this new French take on the story is quite different. Of course, The Count of Monte Cristo hits the beats of revenge that are vital to the story, but it isn't afraid to use the narrative by Alexandre Dumas as a jumping-off point rather than a strict guideline. With a budget of over $46 million, this addition to the book's storied history is an epic worth committing to.
The target of a sinister plot, young Edmond Dantès is arrested on his wedding day for a crime he did not commit. After fourteen years in the island prison of Château d’If, he manages a daring escape. Now rich beyond his dreams, he assumes the identity of the Count of Monte...

Before Christopher Lee starred in Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Tim Burtons movies, he was a British horror movie star. In 1957, Lee got his big break by starring in The Curse of Frankenstein, one of Hammer Film's productions. A year later, he starred as Count Dracula in the Hammer Film's Dracula movies, based on Bram Stokers 1897 epistolary novel, but his role in Dracula was not the first time he played an iconic monster.
The Curse of Frankenstein, the first movie in Hammer Films Frankenstein franchise, is loosely based on Mary Shelleys 1818 novel. The movie follows a scientist who is awaiting execution for his maids murder, as he tells the story of the events that followed after creating a monster. The Curse of Frankenstein helped Lee break into the world of horror with Hammer Film Productions and inspired other versions of Frankenstein, such as Guillermo del Toros Frankenstein story...

A clown, a drunk, and Santa Claus walk into a bar.
Sounds like the setup for an off-color joke, but that’s the scene I witnessed upon visiting the set of Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 earlier this year. As you might expect, the punchline is a bloody one.
“I’ve been really looking forward to this scene,” Art the Clown actor David Howard Thornton tells me. “It’s like the costume shop scene [in Terrifier 2] or the pizzeria scene [in Terrifier]. It’s such a fun scene, and then it gets serious. I think it has one of the more creative kills in the movie.”
Thornton shares the scene with Daniel Roebuck as jolly old Saint Nicholas and Clint Howard as a barfly named Smokey.

Stephen King is celebrating the release of the long-delayed adaptation of Salem's Lot with an excited new post about the upcoming movie. Originally completing filming in 2022, the upcoming Salem's Lot remake is finally getting released on Max after multiple delays in its release schedule. While the movie was supposed to arrive in theaters, its continuous delayed release due to calendar shifts and the 2023 Hollywood strikes resulted in the movie going to streaming instead. However, it's still highly-anticipated due to it being the first movie adaptation of the King novel, following two TV miniseries in 1979 and 2004.
Now, King himself has posted about the Salem's Lot remake, expressing excitement for the delayed adaptation by posing with a framed poster of the film. He can also be seen holding a small toy of Dracula, referencing how the original novel came from the idea of having the famous vampire arrive in America during the 20th century.

Creator Kentaro Miura leaves a legacy through his Berserk manga, with the original 1997 anime adaptation still regarded as a cult classic. The source material is acclaimed as one of the best fantasy series in the medium, and while the TV anime keeps the broad strokes of the early story arcs intact, it makes clear concessions.
Not all of this is surprising considering how intense and shocking portions of the manga are. A new television series based on The Munsters is in the works. It will breathe new life into the franchise after it took a detour in 2022 with a feature film directed by Rob Zombie.
Per Deadline, UCP is developing a new series called 1313, described as a horror series playing on the Universal Monsterverse and a "reimagining" of The Munsters. The title is a reference to 1313 Mockingbird Lane in Mockingbird Heights, the address where the Munster family resides in the previous versions of the story. Lindsey Anderson Beer (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) is on board to serve as showrunner for 1313, and she's developing the series with James Wan and Ingrid Bisu for UCP. Beer and Wan will executive produce with Michael Clear and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster, while Bisu is co-executive producing.

If there's one thing that our society is missing, it's more Dracula movies. That's obviously a joke. The Count has appeared in so many films, TV shows, books, video games, and cereal boxes that it will make your head spin. Even his daughter has her own movie! Ever since his big break in 1897, the world's most famous vampire hasn't taken a breather, despite our waning interests. Bram Stoker's Golden Child is so culturally omnipresent that the chance of actually making him scary again is practically lost on modern audiences. By and large, Dracula is a horror icon, so if filmmakers like Robert Eggers are bringing him back on-screen, that's most likely the tone that they'll aim for. That being said, with the sheer number of appearances that he's made across various mediums, there's been plenty of room for shaking things up. He's been spooky, funny, badass, an action hero,...

Since its inception in 1969, Sesame Street has become one of the most popular children's television shows of all time, a favorite of children, parents, and educators alike. With friendly characters like Big Bird (Caroll Spinney/Matt Vogel) and maybe not so friendly but entirely harmless, like Oscar the Grouch (Caroll Spinney/Eric Jacobson), to beloved human characters like Bob Johnson (Bob McGrath), the innocent show hasn't garnered controversy. Well, wait a moment. Actually, one 1976 episode, #847, actually did create a stir, enough that it was never broadcast again. What could Sesame Street possibly do to warrant such action? Did they stage a coup against the number 6? Did Bert (Frank Oz/Eric Jacobson) create a pigeon blitzkrieg to take over the Street, and then the world? No, it was simply just too scary.

It is the latest cancelation at Disney+ this year; other shows to have been axed include The Spiderwick Chronicles, which has since been shopped to Roku, National Treasure, Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., Willow, Big Shot and Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.
Developed and written by Goldberg and Muppets veteran Bill Barretta and Jeff Yorkes, the series followed The Electric Mayhem Band as they went on an epic musical journey...

The new film by Pablo Larrain, El Conde, deals with Augusto Pinochet, the Chilean dictator, in an unexpected manner. The film reveals that Pinochet is a 250-year-old vampire, and you might think he died in 2006, but he is still very much alive, living in a secluded place on the outskirts of Chile. It’s a provocative idea, trying to bring out the satirical humor associated with dictatorships and the familial and political underpinnings surrounding Pinochet himself.
El Conde is filled with violence and gore, all hinting at the bloodshed during Pinochet’s 1973 coup and the human rights violations during his reign. By showing him as a vampire, a creature who feasts on human blood, the metaphor of politicians ‘sucking the soul’ out of people is nicely brought out in the open. Jaime Vadell delivers a striking portrayal of a vampirical spoof of Pinochet with an uncanny resemblance to the actual figure,...

Born on Nov. 25, 1915, Augusto José Ramón Pinochet would rise through the ranks of the Chilean military and, having become commander-in-chief of the nation’s army, lead a coup against the country’s president Salvador Allende in 1973. This would kick off Pinochet’s political reign — and reign of terror — for the next 17 years. He’d escape persecution for the countless crimes committed during his regime and was unrepentant about his dictatorship (what were mass graves of dissidents but more “efficient ways of burials?”) up until his death in 2006.

Traditionally speaking, vampire stories have boasted a unique kind of versatility that most other subgenres can only dream about. In the last decade alone, they've run the gamut of high-water marks like Taika Waititi's mockumentary "What We Do In The Shadows" and Jim Jarmusch's soulful "Only Lovers Left Alive" to epic lows such as "Dracula Untold," "Morbius," and, well, take your pick of literally any of the "Underworld" movies. 2023 alone has seen two "Dracula" adaptations debut with various degrees of success, but the last quarter of the year brings us the most distinct and boundary-pushing vampire flick, by far -- courtesy of one of the most unexpected sources imaginable.

Augusto Pinochet returns as a bloodsucking vampire – together with Margaret Thatcher – in El Conde, the Chilean director’s black comedy horror. He talks about his fascination with the dictator and why, despite his family ties, he feels empowered to keep telling stories about his country
Margaret Thatcher and Augusto Pinochet are vampires in the new film from the Chilean director Pablo Larraín. Literally so: El Conde (The Count) drapes them in black capes and has them fly over the city, biting the necks of their victims and tearing hearts out of chests. Pinochet, in particular, is voracious and insatiable. The monster likes all types of blood, Thatcher explains with all the cloying condescension of her race and her class. “But naturally English blood is his favourite.”
Larraín – a quick-witted, combative man in his mid-40s – has been fascinated by Pinochet for decades. As a child he watched him on TV and felt an instinctual aversion.

The Augusto Pinochet regime, which ruled Chile under an oppressive thumb with unspeakable human rights violations from 1973 to 1990, following the coup d’état that ousted Socialist president Salvador Allende, has been the subject of countless screen dramas. That includes a loose trilogy by Pablo Larraín, comprised of Tony Manero, Post Mortem and No, all of which observed the dictatorship from unique angles. But even by the director’s own distinctive standards, his return to the subject is a wild leap into irreverent originality, reimagining the deposed tyrant as a 250-year-old vampire on the verge of relinquishing eternal life.
Shot in ravishingly textured, crepuscular black and white by the great Ed Lachman, the Netflix film (opening Sept. 8 in theaters before streaming from Sept. 15) is as visually intoxicating and atmospheric as it is provocative, liberally mixing political satire with dark comedy and horror while examining a grim history that seems doomed to keep repeating itself.
