TLC wouldn’t be complete without Rozanda ‘Chilli’ Thomas, but there was once a time when she almost wasn’t in the equation.
In an exclusive interview with People, the soulful songstress, 52, candidly remembers the group’s formation while discussing Lifetime’s upcoming documentary on the generation-defining group, “TLC Forever”.
“I’m the momma of the group,” Chilli recounts of the Grammy-winning girl group, which also featured Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.
However, Chilli didn’t always hold a prominent position in the group, and surprisingly to some, she was almost kicked out of the group.

The year was 1992 when over 30,000 people died of the deadly sexually transmitted disease, AIDS. By the end of that year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had announced that it had also become the number one cause of death for men aged 25-44 in the United States. And yet the mention of a life-saving condom was too taboo to talk, let alone sing, about.
Enter that same year, a new all-female singing group and their song, “Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg.” Just like that, while people were literally dying from having sex, in a way that wasn’t didactic or preaching, T-Boz, Left Eye, and Chilli, known as TLC, made wearing protective condoms — even on one’s clothes and on top of one’s eyes — cool. They were immediately deemed controversial by the media and simultaneously solidified their place in history as having used music to affect cultural change across the globe.

Whether you observe Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or the customary atheistic Chinese food binge, December can mean only one thing: holiday specials! Those viewers awaiting Santa's arrival can kill some time with Taraji P. Henson, Tony Hale or Terry Crews, while none other than Pitbull himself will hold down the fort this New Year's. And if that's not your jam, NBC will also be raising the curtain on their latest live-theatre broadcast, Madonna goes back on the road, and showtime returns to the Apollo. Joy Behar Reveals Lone ‘Nightmare’ of New TLC Show, Why Carly Fiorina Is ‘Open Season’ on ‘The View’
Joy Behar is no stranger to juggling two TV shows. She’s also no stranger to the set or co-stars on her new one. TLC’s “Late Night Joy” actually films in Behar’s New York City apartment, which is a mere five minutes away from ABC’s “The View” — her other gig. For a stand-up comic, Behar apparently hates traveling. The comedian describes “Late Night Joy” as “eaves-dropping on girlfriends talking” — which she swears isn’t the same as “The View.” (She describes her main gig as “Girls, Interrupted.”) After all, no studio audience would fit in her two-bedroom pad.

Does this tension arise from the music biopic genre's penchant for using managers as convenient foils to show artists overcoming adversity? Or are these unfavorable representations a fair depiction of the troubling power dynamics in the music industry? Who exactly is being exploited? On Friday, former N.W.A manager Jerry Heller
