Deadline has grown the number of shows and revealed the list of panelists for Contenders Television, its annual two-day panel showcase that kicks off the TV awards season. This year’s edition is set to take place April 5-6 at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles.

A total of 20 shows have now signed on for the extravaganza, which shines a spotlight on the stars and creatives behind the season’s most talked-about TV dramas, comedies and limited series. The latest series to join this week are The Last of Us from HBO and Max, and Prime Video’s Étoile and Overcompensating.

After making a name for herself in the popular Prime Video series Transparent, along with a series of great performances on stage and screen, actress Amy Landecker has decided to make the jump to directing. While her debut, For Worse, is not particularly original, it has the comedic voice and authentic perspective it needs to be a mostly charming comedy nevertheless.

For Worse follows a newly divorced and sober woman who goes to a wedding with a much younger date, only to discover that this digs up some of her buried resentments and causes her to behave irresponsibly. Although the script is pretty unoriginal and rarely gut-bustingly funny, it’s a perfect example of the “if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it” approach to filmmaking.

Hulu has revealed the teaser trailer and art for the sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale. The Emmy Award-winning series returns on April 8th with three episodes, then weekly thereafter for a finale on May 27th.

Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States.

Offred (Elisabeth Moss), one of the few fertile women known as Handmaids in the oppressive Republic of Gilead, struggles to survive as a reproductive surrogate for a powerful Commander and his resentful wife.

In the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale, June’s unyielding spirit and determination pull her back into the fight to take down Gilead. Luke and Moira join the resistance.

The Handmaid’s Tale has been one of the most consistent TV series to premiere in the last ten years.

Yes, it’s consistently bleak, but it’s been one of the strongest shows on the air for a long time.

The big question for me has been whether it would stick the landing because it would be a real shame if the show did not go out in a blaze of glory.

Season 6 of the Elisabeth Moss-led show is slated to debut April 8 on Hulu, the streamer announced on Wednesday. That’s just under three years after Season 5 launched on Sept. 14, 2022. Hulu also released a first teaser for this upcoming season to go along with the announcement.

“They believed that these garments that they put on our bodies told the world who we are,” Moss’ June says in the clip. “To mark us, they put us in red — the color of blood. They forgot that it’s also the color of rage.”

Production is underway on Season 3 of The Diplomat, Netflix's political thriller starring Keri Russell (The Americans) as Ambassador Kate Wyler and Rufus Sewell (Dark City) as her husband, Hal. Allison Janney plays U.S. President Grace Penn, and in a stroke of casting genius, her The West Wing cast mate Bradley Whitford has been cast as Todd the First Husband.

Adding to The West Wing reunion is The Diplomat's creator, showrunner, and executive producer, Debora Cahn, who was also a producer and writer on the famous, multiple award-winning NBC political series. Cahn said of the casting of Whitford (via Netflix), “Brad was the fantasy version of Todd — for all of us. We still can’t believe it came true.”

And things are going to be quite interesting for the characters, as Cahn explained:

Netflix’s upcoming The Diplomat Season 3 has received its first official photo, teasing the reunion between The West Wing vets Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford. This comes after three months since the political thriller made its long-awaited return with its 6-episode second season.

Shared on X, The Diplomat Season 3 photo provided fans with the first look at Janney and Whitford’s characters together, as they reunite after 19 years since The West Wing had ended its run. The acclaimed NBC drama lasted for seven seasons from 1999 to 2006, where Janney and Whitford were introduced as press secretary C.J. Cregg and deputy chief of staff Josh Lyman, respectively. Netflix debuted its first look Friday for “Death by Lightning,” a new drama about the true story of the 20th president of the United States, James Garfield, and his greatest admirer Charles Guiteau — the man who would come to kill him.

The limited series, which is based on the Candice Millard novel “Destiny of the Republic,” will premiere on the streamer later this year and stars Matthew Macfadyen and Michael Shannon.

Other cast members include Betty Gilpin, Nick Offerman, , Laura Marcus, Bradley Whitford, Shea Whigham, Paula Malcomson, Tuppence Middleton, Archie Fisher, Barry Shabaka Henley, Željko Ivanek, Kyle Soller, Ben Miles, Vondie Curtis Hall, Shaun Parkes and Alistair Petrie.

“Death by Lightning” is created and written by Mike Makowsky, who executive produces alongside David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Bernie Caulfield and director Matt Ross.

It’s a “West Wing” reunion in “The Diplomat” Season 3, as Whitford has joined the cast as Todd Penn, husband to Janney’s Vice President Grace Penn. Netflix has released three first-look images from the upcoming season of the political thriller, which is currently in production and expected to debut sometime in 2025.

Whitford and Janney are once again playing major players in Washington, as the pair previously starred in Aaron Sorkin’s NBC political drama across its seven-season run. Janney played Press Secretary C.J. Cregg, while Whitford played White House Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman.

Kate Wyler’s (Keri Russell) work overseas isn’t letting up. The Diplomatis coming back for a third season and, by the looks of it, things are about to get a lot more complicated as Bradley Whitford joins the cast.

“Season 3 flips the chessboard,” creator, showrunner, and executive producer Debora Cahn tells Tudum. “In Season 3, Kate lives the particular nightmare that is getting what you want.”

Production on the new season is well underway in London and New York. “We’re shooting some stuff already in Season 3 that involves big groups and lots of people, and we do tend to rehearse those [scenes],” Russell said during a November episode of Netflix’s Skip Intro podcast. “It’s such rapid-fire diplomatic speak that we make sure that everyone’s on the same page and knows what we’re actually talking about.”

The streamer released some first look photos on Thursday, which feature newest cast member Bradley Whitford, who Deadline previously reported will be reuniting with his former The West Wing co-star Allison Janney to play her husband and the First Gentleman of the United States.

The photos don’t reveal much about what’s to come, other than some expected interaction between Grace Penn (Janney), her husband Todd Penn (Whitford), Keri Russell’s Kate Wyler and Rufus Sewell’s Hal Wyler.
