The 20 Best Disney Duos Of All Time, Ranked
Image
While there are a lot of Disney characters who easily stand out on their own, there are some iconic Disney duos that show how much fun a pair can be. Disney has always loved exploring friendship in their animated movies and they have done so successfully since the beginning of their run. However, even in their long history, some Disney duos rise above the rest and showcase those truly special pairings that have delivered laughs, heartbreak, and charm to audiences over the years.

Including all the Pixar movies alongside the animated Disney roster, there are a lot of notable pairs to choose from. There are some friends who clearly go back a long way, like Mike and Sully in Monsters Inc. Some start out with a lot of tension only to find common ground, like Moana and Maui. Of course, some Disney duos are just fun to watch sharing the screen,...

10 Disney Villains Too Hard to Hate (Even Though You Should)
Image
Disney villains can be a divisive topic of conversation. Obviously, the heroes are there for viewers to get on side with and support in whatever journey they're undertaking. However, particularly in more recent times, fans have become more inclined to see things from a villain's point of view, as well as enjoy what they're like.

A lot of villains behave unforgivably, but it's not what they do that can make them hard to hate; it's their personalities. Some are funny, while others deliver energy that livens up the movie and encourages fans to look forward to seeing them on the screen. They're crucial to any good animation, so much so that fans can't always despise them.

Hades Is a Comedic Character in Hercules

This New Horror Show Is Hauntingly Similar to 2 of 2024's Scariest Movies
Image
Grotesquerie, the latest fright fest from Ryan Murphy, teams a jaded detective with an eccentric young nun in the investigation of a string of outrageous murders. The show's marketing includes surreal imagery of nuns, crosses, and other religious iconography that felt familiar to horror fans; 2024 saw the release of Immaculate and The First Omen, two supernatural thrillers with heroines in habits battling conspiracies among the clergy. A strange revelation from Grotesquerie Episode 6 suggests that the connection between the show and the two films is more than merely cosmetic.

Immaculate and The First Omen had fans talking about their bizarrely similar narratives: each featured a clandestine plot to drive humanity back to the church with manifestations of biblical phenomena. In the last episode of Grotesquerie, a new character hints at a very similar motivation behind the profane serial murders. Is it only a coincidence, or is Ryan Murphy's creative team conspiring...

Why Disney Fans Still Love This Underrated 90s Hit
Image
Quick Links The Music in Hercules Goes Above and Beyond Hercules Puts Contemporary Humor in an Ancient Society The Art Style in Hercules is Utterly Unique The music in Hercules adds depth and diversity to the film's themes. The movie incorporates contemporary humor, blending ancient Greek settings with '90s cultural references. The art style in Hercules is unique, drawing inspiration from ancient Greek art.

Disney is known for its crowd-pleasing animated family films, full of catchy music, gripping plots, and plenty of humor. Hercules is no exception. The movie, a loose adaptation of the Greek myth of Heracles, follows the young demigod as he trains to become a hero and falls in love with the human woman Megara, all while Hades plots to take down the other gods. While the plot is interesting on its own, the movie soars even further due to its chorus of muses narrating the film,...

Image
Singer-songwriter Ani Difranco will make her Broadway debut as ‘Persephone’ in the hit musical Hadestown, performing the role she originated on the 2010 studio-concept album by composer Anaïs Mitchell.

Difranco will begin performances at the Walter Kerr Theatre on February 9, 2024. The announcement was made today by producers Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold, and Tom Kirdahy.

Difranco’s history with Hadestown began when she invited Mitchell to release the original studio album of Hadestown on Difranco’s label Righteous Babe Records. Difranco originated the role of ‘Persephone’ on the album, leaving what the producers’ announcement today described as “an indelible imprint on the character as the show evolved over the course of several years.”

Patti LuPone Isn‘t Retiring but Broadway Has ‘Dumbed Down the Audience’ by Turning Into ‘Disneyland, a Circus and Las Vegas’
Image
Three-time Tony winner Patti LuPone isn’t leaving Broadway. Despite her recent move to give up her Actor’s Equity card, which fans took as a sign of her impending retirement, she says she’s just taking a break.

“I just gave up my equity card, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t perform on-stage,” LuPone told Variety at Netflix’s “The School for Good and Evil” premiere Tuesday. “It’s 50 years that I’ve been a member of Actors Equity, and I think I need a break from the stage.”

LuPone clarified that provisions in her former membership allow her to still make guest appearances on stage in the meantime, but without being a part of the labor union, she won’t be taking any major roles on Broadway any time soon.

LuPone knew she needed a break after “Company” wrapped its theatrical run in July. But...

Patti LuPone On Leaving Actors’ Equity: “They Don’t Know Who I Am Basically” – Report
Image
Broadway star Patti LuPone is offering additional details on her decision to leave the Actors’ Equity union after completing her run in Company last summer.

“They accepted my resignation and told me that if I ever wanted to rejoin, I’d have to be approved,” the triple Tony winner tells People magazine in an exclusive interview today. “And it’s the perfect reason I withdrew from Equity. Fifty years to this year … I’ve been a card-carrying member of Equity, and they don’t know who I am basically. They just said, ‘Fine, but if you want to rejoin, we’re going to have to approve you.’ “

LuPone announced via Twitter yesterday that she’d given up her Actors’ Equity card, writing, “Quite a week on Broadway, seeing my name being bandied about. Gave up my Equity card; no longer part of that circus. Figure it out.” The tweet was...

Patti LuPone says she has resigned from Actors’ Equity.

The three-time Tony Award winner tweeted Monday it was “quite a week on Broadway, seeing my name being bandied about.”

She added, “Gave up my Equity card; no longer part of that circus. Figure it out,” she said.

A union membership is required to perform in any Broadway production and most professional theaters in the U.S.

The actor later clarified via a spokesperson that she had resigned from the union after the run of Company, which closed on Broadway on July 31. LuPone won her third Tony Award for her portrayal of Joanne in the show.

“When the run of Company ended this past July, I knew I wouldn’t be on stage for a very long time. And at that point I made the decision to resign from Equity,” LuPone said in a statement.

Patti LuPone Gives Up Actors’ Equity Card, Won’t Be On Stage “For A Very Long Time”: “No Longer Part Of That Circus” – Update
Image
Update, with LuPone statement Triple Tony winner and stage icon Patti LuPone says she’s given up her Actors’ Equity card, a move that could signal an end – or at least a long break – to her celebrated Broadway stage career.

“Quite a week on Broadway, seeing my name being bandied about. Gave up my Equity card; no longer part of that circus. Figure it out,” writes LuPone in an apparent reference to last week’s controversy over Hadestown star Lillias White reprimanding an audience member from the stage.

“When the run of Company ended this past July, I knew I wouldn’t be on stage for a very long time,” LuPone said in a statement obtained by Deadline. “And at that point I made the decision to resign from Equity.” A spokesperson for LuPone said the actor would have no further comment on the matter.

Image
The Hadestown audience member with hearing loss who was reprimanded from the stage by Lillias White when the Broadway actress mistook a captioning device for a recording device is urging social media users to “please stop harassing” the Broadway star.

“Ms. White is not a malicious person, nor is she the enemy,” said Samantha Coleman in a tweet this afternoon, noting that White’s social media pages, particularly Instagram, “have been flooded with ageist & racist comments.”

On Wednesday night, Coleman was in the front row of the Walter Kerr Theatre using a venue-provided captioning device during a performance of Hadestown when White, one of the stars of the musical, reprimanded her from the stage “not once but twice, at least.” The actress mistakenly thought Coleman was illegally recording the performance.

The incident has drawn considerable media attention since Coleman went public with a tearful Instagram post on Wednesday night. Hadestown producers and Jujamcyn Theaters,...

Timothy Graphenreed Dies: ‘The Wiz’ Song Composer Was 68

Timothy Graphenreed, a longtime musical and dance arranger who composed two numbers for the beloved Broadway musical The Wiz, died March 1 at New York’s Mt. Sinai Hospital. He was 68.

Graphenreed’s death was first reported today by Broadway World. A cause of death was not announced.

Graphenreed provided dance arrangements for Broadway’s Leader of the Pack (1985) and Comin’ Uptown (1979), the latter a short-lived retelling of A Christmas Carol with a Black cast headed by Gregory Hines as Scrooge.

Review: The Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid rekindled Walt Disney’s animation excellence, launching the current wave of films and fascination with the princesses. It remains a stunning piece of work, with excellent songs and vocal performances, that continues to hold up well with repeated viewings. Jodi Benson’s innocent, yearning Ariel is well matched by the scheming Pat Carroll as Ursula, one of the more frightening antagonists in the animated oeuvre.

The 1989 release is out as part of their 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Signature Collection line.

The well-known story is nicely adapted...
