Exclusive: French studio Samka Group has opened an LA hub and snapped up Cartoon Network SVP Tramm Wigzell to oversee the satellite.
Wigzell takes up the newly-created Global Head of Content post for the Jamie’s Got Tentacles and The Sisters group, which is comprised of Kam&Ka, Sklan&Ka, Good Karma, Jetpack Distribution and Unique Animation.
Reporting to Samka Group CEO Samuel Kaminka, Wigzell will oversee development for the labels and initiate live action and animation projects in the U.S. for the first time. Samka currently has more than 20 projects in various stages of development and production, according to the group.
Wigzell is an industry animation vet whose past credits include Ben 10, Summer Camp Island, Infinity Train, Victor and Valentino, Mao Mao, Heroes of Pure Heart and Apple & Onion. Cartoon Network's VP original series Rob Swartz is leaving the cable network after a three-year stint to return to his alternative series roots, this time as a producer. His last day is today. At Cn, Swarz led the development and current teams and oversaw development and current programming for all of Cn’s original animated, live-action and alternative series, including Adventure Time, Regular Show, Mad, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, Generator Rex, Young Justice, Hole in the Wall, Dude What Would Happen, and Destroy Build Destroy. Cartoon Network has upped two executives on its original series team. Tramm Wigzell has been named vp action adventure, and Nick Weidenfeld has been named vp comedy development.
Wigzell will oversee the development and current functions for action programming, both live-action and animation, while Weidenfeld will oversee development for animated and live-action comedy programs.
Wigzell played a key role in upcoming Cartoon series including "Unnatural History" and "Ben 10: Ultimate Alien" and has supervised such shows as "Ben 10" and "Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi" and "The Batman."
Weidenfeld worked on Cartoon's recent slate of comedy development and also has worked on shows for sibling Adult Swim, including "The Boondocks" and "Moral Orel."
"Both Tramm and Nick have proven their abilities to secure both top talent and creative properties for our networks and to shepherd the resulting programs to successful launches," Cartoon vp original series Rob Swartz said.
