He has appeared in three films that have been selected for the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant: In the Heat of the Night (1967), In Cold Blood (1967) and The Right Stuff (1983).

Scott's wife, Heavenly, is originally from Korea.

Scott stayed in close contact with his mother, until her passing at age 100.

According to Producer Bill Greene, Scott was very humble about himself and his work and, unfortunately, shied away from talk show guest appearances.

As a child, growing up in Georgia, Scott used to avidly fish the local creeks with a bamboo pole and line according to Bill Greene in a pre-production conversation.
