Babak Anvari is set to direct a new sequel to Cloverfield, which is reportedly a direct sequel to Matt Reeves’s original 2008 film.

In a new interview during the SXSW premiere of his latest film Hallow Road, Anvari teased the new sequel.

“So sad that I cannot because everyone on that team is very secretive, which I understand,” Anvari told Countdown City Geeks. “But whatever happens, just know that hopefully you’re going to get something amazing.”

Although Anvari didn’t disclose any details about the follow-up film, he did express his excitement about the project as “high.”

Deadline reported in December 2022 that Anvari was attached to direct the new Cloverfield movie with Joe Barton writing the script, J.J. Abrams producing for Bad Robot, along with Hannah Minghella and Jon Cohen. Bryan Burk, Matt Reeves, and Drew Goddard are also attached as executive producers.

However, before those blockbusters, Reeves directed another monster movie, 2008’s disaster action horrow film, Cloverfield.

Written by Drew Goddard, Cloverfield, is coming to the free streaming service Tubi on April 1. The movie, a found footage film, that follows a group of friends as they set out on a rescue mission in New York City during a monster attack, made $172 million worldwide, against its budget of $25 million to $30 million. The CW has set an April 1, 2024 premiere date for All American season six and an April 3rd return date for Walker season four. The network’s spring lineup also includes the new dating series Lovers and Liars and Patti Stanger: The Matchmaker.

Sight Unseen, a new crime drama starring Dolly Lewis and Daniel Gillies, will take its place on the network’s primetime lineup beginning on April 3rd. Plus, new unscripted shows Police 24/7 and Hostage Rescue join The CW’s roster in late April.

The CW is hoping to keep its trio of scripted originals – All American, All American: Homecoming and Walker – on the air for some time.

The network scaled back its scripted ambitions after it was acquired by Nexstar in 2022 with a number of shows ending over the last twelve months including The Flash, Riverdale, Nancy Drew, Walker: Independence, The Winchesters and Gotham Knights.

The menu, an eloquent manifestation of the establishment’s theme, has an array of dishes influenced by the traditional American Supper Club that evoke both nostalgia and innovation, including: cold appetizers like seafood towers, caesar salad and tuna tartare; hot appetizers including crab cake and elevated fried mozzarella; house-made pasta dishes like cacio e pepe and tagliatelle with roasted mushrooms; proteins including a chicken dish with preparation of chicken parm of the thigh and a roasted breast with chicken jus, and whole red snapper with classic sauce meuniere; and ribeyes and filets locally sourced from 44 Farms.
