In the spring, a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love. For Eli Roth in spring, however, his fancies tend to turn darker, more menacingly humorous, and toward the more bloodily outrageous. Take his plans for March 21. That’s when the horror film director-writer will be putting out the first release of his collaboration with the Italian soundtrack label Cam Sugar, “Eli Roth’s Red Light Disco: Dancefloor Seductions From Italian Sexploitation Cinema,” which will be distributed through Universal Music.
March 21 is also the day that Roth begins offering “stock” to his rabid fanbase in what he calls his independent “mini-studio,” the Horror Section, in partnership with the investing platform Republic.
An obsessive when it comes to music and film — be it admiration for the currency of horror filmmakers, his own slasher cinematic catalog, or the “commedia sexy all’italiana” soundtracks of the 1970s and early 1980s...

Jenna Ortega, who plays the morbid, death-obsessed student in Wednesday, teased there will be more ghoulish occurrences in the supernatural high school series in a recent interview with Collider.
“Visually, I can say we have some of the most fun we’ve ever had,” Ortega told Collider. “It’s crazy to talk about one frame like this, but there is a frame of Pugsley rolling his eyes back with this contraption around his head — that’s all I can say — and it reminds me so much of Full Metal Jacket.

Season 2 of the hit Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday started filming in Ireland last May and is now making its way through post-production – and series star Jenna Ortega says that when the new season starts streaming, we can expect to see a lot of horror references in its episodes. There will even be an episode based on slasher movies!

Wednesday Season 1 premiered on Netflix to huge acclaim in 2022. The Addams Family spin-off series starring Jenna Ortega is the most-watched title in the English language on Netflix and the anticipation for the upcoming Season 2 is high.
The new season will have many returning faces, but it will also feature pop star and actress Lady Gaga. So far, Gaga's role in the popular TV series is kept under wraps, and Ortega refused to give any information about it. However, when speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the lead actress teased that her character is nothing like people expect.
Asked about whether Wednesday Season 2 will feature another iconic dance scene, especially with Gaga joining the cast, Ortega shared, "It's crazy. There's definitely dances in the show, is that terrible?" Wednesday Season 1's dance to the song "Goo Goo Muck" by The Cramps became a cultural movement, with the titular character's dance going viral and being recreated online many times.

Indie filmmaker Todd Solondz has for over four decades batted off ratings battles, jeers and boos at film festivals, and censorship controversies for his unflinching and scaldingly funny deadpan dioramas of American suburban life.
He’s found comedy in the darkest places and the most messed-up people, whether a father of three (Dylan Baker) who’s also a pedophile in “Happiness,” a middle-school social outcast (Heather Matarazzo) in “Welcome to the Dollhouse,” or a Hispanic housekeeper who poisons her employers with carbon monoxide in “Storytelling.” His 1998 “Happiness” shocked Cannes with its bleak sexuality and cringe characters, compelling even the Sundance Film Festival to refuse to screen it.
The pressure was on after the cult classic — recently burnished in 4K by the Criterion Collection — for Solondz to follow its winning formula. After the follow-up “Storytelling,” he brought to Venice “Palindromes,” a disturbing comedy about a 13-year-old girl desperate to have a baby.

The great child actress Michelle Trachtenberg died today, Feb. 26, 2025. This follows a liver transplant the actor received, along with several Instagram posts which had alarmed some friends and fans, with the images portraying an extremely gaunt Trachtenberg. As The New York Post writes, "Trachtenberg was found by her mother at around 8 a.m. Wednesday at One Columbus Place, a 51-story luxury apartment complex in Manhattan’s Central Park South neighborhood, the sources said [...] The NYPD confirmed Trachtenberg was found 'unconscious and unresponsive' by police and pronounced dead by Ems workers."

The legendary film critic Roger Ebert was a firm believer in the power of family films being works of art that could connect children and adults through movies that featured deep themes. With glowing reviews of movies like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrialand My Neighbor Totoro, he championed family entertainment that did not talk down to its audience.
Some Disney movies exemplify Roger Ebert's ideas about what makes a great children's film, with works like Pinocchio and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves being featured on his Great Movies lists. But other Disney movies fell short of his standards, becoming kids' films that he saw as cheap and under-baked.
Ebert Thought The Princess Diaries Was a Tired Rehash of Tropes
Considered a classic by millennials around the country, and one of the best performances in Anne Hathaway's fantastic multi-decade career, The Princess Diaries is a lovely coming-of-age story wrapped up in a classic daydream.

With star Mason Gooding recently teasing Neve Campbell's return for Scream VII, the overarching continuity of the slasher movie universe is beginning to take shape. The popular horror franchise created by Wes Craven in 1996 remained confined to the California suburbs of Woodsboro during the first five installments before branching out to New York City in Scream VI, a reinvigorating departure expected to continue when Scream 7 is released in 2026.
In addition to the coastal change, series mainstay Neve Campbell was noticeably absent from Scream VI due to contract disagreements. Then, Melissa Barrera, was notoriously fired from the franchise following her pro-Palestinian support after Scream IV was released, prompting Campbell's return for Scream 7. Given all the moving parts, casting changes, new settings, and the like, it's worth delineating how Scream V and Scream VI relate to each other narratively and whether the former must be seen to comprehend the latter.

While the duo have finally been confirmed to be coming back, Freddie Prinze Jr. has some surprising insight about Julie and Ray's return in the I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel. After moving away from a Mike Flanagan-helmed remake, development began on a direct sequel to the 1998 sequel with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson directing on a script she co-wrote with Sam Lansky, from a story she developed with Leah McKendrick. The new Last Summer cast is set to be led by Madelyn Cline, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Prinze Jr. confirmed separately in September and December 2024.

Nevermore Academy will soon be back in session. Filming for Season 2 of Netflix's amusingly macabre hit series Wednesday wrapped in late November, and its highly-anticipated premiere is expected to arrive sometime in 2025.
The show's first season came out back in 2022. Almost immediately, it revived long-time Addams' Family fans as well as bewitched an entirely new generation with its endearingly morbid, iconic lead, Wednesday Addams (expertly deadpanned by Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star Jenna Ortega). It follows her during her teenage years when she is sent to a boarding school for outcasts with supernatural abilities. Shortly after her arrival, Wednesday descends into an increasingly treacherous mystery. Becoming one of Netflix's most-watched original series on their platform, it's unsurprising that fans are eager to see what else is in store for the death-obsessed, psychic teen and her cohort of Nevermore misfits.

Updated with the latest: Wednesday’s sophomore season has officially wrapped production. Before this, the latest update on the sophomore season set at Nevermore Academy involved the guest appearance of a certain Mother Monster.
After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for a second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered. It eventually became the most-watched original series ever on the streamer, with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things Season 4, Dahmer, and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.
Season 1 received 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She became just the third Latina ever to be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.

Horror fans, rejoice! We have some good news to share about the hit horror series Wednesday. Production on the highly anticipated second season is officially in the can, meaning we're even closer to the show returning to our screens. On top of that, Netflix decided to release a first-look image of the new season featuring Jenna Ortega back as the iconic Wednesday Addams. You can check out the photo above.
In the new image from Wednesday season 2, Wednesday seems to be standing in some sort of cemetery, and as usual, she doesn't seem the happiest if her arms crossed and slight frown means anything. While plot details surrounding the second season are being kept secret, it's obvious that Wednesday is going to find herself in another tricky situation like last season.
In season 1, Wednesday became entangled in a series of supernatural mysteries while attending her parents' old school, Nevermore Academy.

In a new photo from Season 2 of “Wednesday,” Ortega is seen frowning her and crossing her arms against a spooky outdoor backdrop — potentially a cemetery — with a gothic gate and two robed statues carrying lanterns behind her. This is the first photo from the Netflix series’ second season, though the streamer previously released a behind-the-scenes clip. Netflix released the photo just after production on Season 2 wrapped in Ireland. The season is set to premiere in 2025.

The second season of Netflix's Wednesday has added a new cast member that's sure to bring the show a lot of attention, with Lady Gaga set to join the Addams Family spin-off series in a mysterious role.
Details on Gaga's character have not been released, but Variety believes that her part is more likely to be a cameo than a full-on supporting role.
Gaga's involvement with the series was foreshadowed shortly after the first season, when a meme featuring Jenna Ortega's Wednesday Addams dancing to a sped-up version of 2011's Bloody Mary went viral.
Ortega would later state that she would love Gaga to be a part of the show while being interviewed at the 2023 Golden Globes.
"I'm sure Netflix would love that. I think Mrs. Thornhill and Wednesday had this weird mentor relationship or kind of understood each other in a certain way, so, if Lady Gaga were to be a part,...

Back in September, Netflix offered a sneak peek into the forthcoming second season of Wednesday. The behind-the-scenes video showed only slivers of glimpses into the show’s wicked return — and for good reason. Jenna Ortega, who plays the titular role, warned: “If we showed you any more, your eyes would bleed.” Fittingly, Wednesday has recruited a special guest with a long history of startling on-screen appearances: Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga.
According to Variety, the musician and actress will make a cameo appearance when the series makes its awaited return.

Singer/songwriter Lady Gaga didn’t have anything to do with the first season of the hit Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday, but when video clips of Jenna Ortega’s “Goo Goo Muck” dance scene went viral, many fans replaced The Cramps’ song “Goo Goo Muck” with a sped-up version of Lady Gaga’s song “Bloody Mary.” So Wednesday and Lady Gaga have been connected for a while now – and that connection is going to be deepened with the now-in-production season 2, as Deadline reports that Lady Gaga has been added to the cast of the show! The Princess Diaries 3 should address a harsh reality about one of Mias friendships in the original movie. In one of Anne Hathaway's best roles, The Princess Diaries chronicles Mia Thermopolis journey as she becomes the queen of Genovia. When The Princess Diaries was released, it received great reviews and became a cultural phenomenon. Even to this day, the movie is still considered one of the best teen dramas of the early 2000s.
From the press to her schoolmates, there was no shortage of people who wanted to either use Mia or destroy her in Princess Diaries. Despite several people having ill intentions towards her, Mia had a great support system which included her grandma, mum, and her driver/security guard, Joe. Now that The Princess Diaries 3 has been confirmed, it will be interesting to see if the film will address one of the harsh realities of the original Princess Diaries movie.

The Hostel franchise is known for long, graphic scenes of gore. Created by Eli Roth, one of the most renowned directors of splatter horror, when you sit down to watch a Hostel movie, you expect a nauseating experience and endurance test, as you must watch innocent characters be subjected to intense torture. Even though I knew that going in, nothing could've prepared me for Lornas (Heather Matarazzo) brutal death in Hostel: Part II. With all the horror movies I have watched, I am fairly desensitized to gore, but something about Lornas death was so excessively cruel and violent that I wish Id never seen it. The image of her suffering will forever be etched into my brain.

By their very nature, horror movies lend themselves to sequels as killers, supernatural threats, and monstrous entities continually return to seek revenge and vengeance. While this can sometimes feel unnecessary as horror franchises continue way past their prime and test audiences' patience, other series have remained engaging and feature characters who I would watch indefinitely. As a horror movie lover, there are just some franchises that, no matter how many installments they make, Im always happy to hear about a new, upcoming entry.
The best horror franchises feature antagonists who have carved out important roles in popular culture, as figures like Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger will surely give viewers nightmares for decades to come. While I agree some franchises should be put out of their misery, these are others that I still cant get enough of. Although it may be true that Hollywood horrors could use more original ideas instead of endless sequels,...

There is a new ruler of Genovia: Director Adele Lim.
The “Joy Ride” filmmaker and “Crazy Rich Asians” co-screenwriter will officially helm “Princess Diaries 3,” which will continue celebrating “female power, joy, and mentorship,” as Lim teased.
“As a diehard fan of the original ‘Princess Diaries,’ I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life,” Lim said in a press statement. “We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy, and mentorship with audiences worldwide.”
“Princess Diaries 3” was confirmed by Disney in 2022. “Supergirl” scribe Aadrita Mukerji was announced as the screenwriter, with original “Princess Diaries” veteran Debra Martin Chase producing. “The Other Woman” screenwriter Melissa Stack is executive producing along with director Lim’s producing partner Naia Cucukov.
The third film will serve as a continuation of the original film series, which began in 2001 and was based on Meg Cabot’s novel series.
