The Twilight Zone is one of the most brilliant and trippy series ever made. Created by Rod Serling, the CBS series is a virtual and psychologically thrilling trip into the unknown. The Twilight Zone premiered over six decades ago, and it still holds up very well as far as the stories and the visual experience go. Maybe that’s why the Jordan Peele reboot failed: it couldn’t capture the same magic as the Serling series did. So, if you loved the trippy stories, inventive settings, and compelling characters in The Twilight Zone, here are some similar shows you should check out next.

The Log Lady was a beloved part of “Twin Peaks.” But Catherine Coulson was much more than that. She was a fan favorite who made time to speak with series enthusiasts and helped perpetuate its lore, as well as a longtime actor with Ashland’s Oregon Shakespeare Festival and a camera assistant who pulled focus for David Lynch, John Cassavetes and Albert Brooks.
Coulson made “everyone who was close to her feel like they were her best friend,” says Richard Green, director of “I Know Catherine, The Log Lady,” a feature-length documentary that screens at Ojai’s Playhouse Theatre Saturday with a Q&a from “Twin Peaks” co-creator Mark Frost.
Several of those friends were involved in making the doc, which ends with the dramatic story of the last few days of Coulson’s life, as Lynch and company raced against her rapidly progressing lung cancer to include her in...

Since the loss of acclaimed director and creative visionary David Lynch, many fans — myself included — have dedicated themselves to revisiting some of his greatest works, such as Mulholland Drive or even the gruesomely bone-chilling Blue Velvet. But for those who are hoping to experience what some consider to be Lynch's magnum opus, a 4K box set release of Twin Peaks has just been announced, featuring every episode of the baffling murder mystery turned cult classic along with hours of bonus content and behind-the-scenes footage.
Twin Peaks: From A to Z is the perfect collector's item for anyone who has fallen in love with Lynch's surreal, eccentric little town. This box set includes both seasons of the original series, as well as the prequel film from 1992, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, and the revival season, Twin Peaks: The Return, released in 2017. Sci-fi is always evolving as a genre, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun to look back on the best of what sci-fi TV shows had to offer over the years. The 1990s were a standout decade for film and television, and as visual effects improved and the interest in speculative fiction grew stronger, there was plenty of opportunity for TV series to capitalize on this momentum. There is a style that's unique to sci-fi shows that came out during the '90s, and revisiting older TV shows can be a fun place to see how visuals have changed since then.
However, many of these hold up well today because of their storytelling and character-driven narratives. The '90s saw more prestige television and serialized narratives hitting the screen, and this impacted every genre. Every time period has a different focus within the speculative fiction genre, as the progression of...

David Lynch has taken to X to clarify his comments in a recent interview about his battle with emphysema and isolation for fear of Covid.
“Ladies and Gentlemen,” Lynch writes, “Yes, I have emphysema from my many years of smoking. I have to say that I enjoyed smoking very much, and I do love tobacco – the smell of it, lighting cigarettes on fire, smoking them – but there is a price to pay for this enjoyment, and the price for me is emphysema. I have now quit smoking for over two years. Recently I had many tests and the good news is that I am in excellent shape except for emphysema. I am filled with happiness, and I will never retire. I want you all to know that I really appreciate your concern. Love, David”

Bobby Briggs' character development in Twin Peaks is a testament to the well-written web of characters in the series. His transformation in The Return showcases his redemption arc, fueled by his relationship with his understanding father, Major Garland Briggs. Bobby Briggs' disruptive behavior highlights the corruption in Twin Peaks, ultimately making him instrumental in unraveling the mystery.
Bobby Briggs is one of the most divisive characters in the Twin Peaks original series. Bobby's character development is a testament to the show, and part of the well-written web of characters in the series. This is the aspect Dana Ashbrook says he enjoyed the most as opposed to the overarching mystery (per Welcome To Twin Peaks). Whether hes causing trouble around town with Mike Nelson, crying on Dr Jacobys therapy couch, planting cocaine in James motorbike engine, or promising Shelly he will take care of everything, Bobbys multifaceted character is among the most enjoyable to watch.

Spoilers are ahead for I Saw the TV Glow's ending.
I Saw the TV Glow and Twin Peaks share themes and plot ideas, especially when it comes to shared identities, doubles, and doppelgngers. The film pays homage to Twin Peaks with references to characters like Maddy or locations like the Roadhouse. With an atmosphere of menace and a reliance on the blurring of the real and unreal, I Saw the TV Glow feels connected to Twin Peaks.
When conceiving their second feature-length film, writer-director Jane Schoenbrun drew on '90s cult classics for inspiration. While I Saw the TV Glow pulls from young-adult television hits like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Are You Afraid of the Dark?, the filmmaker has cited David Lynch's Twin Peaks as a huge influence. From I Saw the TV Glow's eerie soundtrack and its more surreal storytelling elements to the atmospheric menace that permeates the film's suburban setting,...

Twin Peaks was ahead of its time, breaking TV norms with a mix of horror, comedy, and style. The series influenced modern television, blurring the lines between film and TV with its cinematic aesthetic. Twin Peaks introduced surrealism and a dark side to small town life, inspiring a wave of similar shows.
“Twin Peaks, the series that may change it all,” read the cover of Connoisseur magazine in 1989, months before the show aired on ABC to an audience of 35 million. Viewers had never seen anything like David Lynch and Mark Frost’s show: a surreal serial drama inflected with horror, violence, and comedy all at once. It was true, television would never be the same. Its 2017 revival, Twin Peaks: The Return, reinvented the wheel yet again, and TV continues to get stranger, and better, after its vision.

Twin Peaks Star Shares Brutal View on Possible Reboot: 'You Are Like "Don't Touch That" But They Do'
Twin Peaks remains a unique masterpiece not to be recreated with a new cast, according to Kyle MacLachlan. MacLachlan recalls the TV stigma of the '90s and how appearing on TV back then was different. The line between TV and cinema has blurred recently, but Twin Peaks still stands out for its originality.
Twin Peaks was brought back to TV in 2017 for an unexpected revival, but star Kyle MacLachlan doesn’t think it should happen again with a new cast. David Lynch’s surreal ‘90s masterpiece still stands as one of those projects that has to be seen, as description alone just doesn’t do it any justice. For MacLachlan, the series should now be put to bed and not tinkered with again.

Dale Cooper actor Kyle MacLachlan shuts down idea of another Twin Peaks reboot. MacLachlan feels too many TV shows and movies are remade. The star doesn't think anyone should attempt to revisit Twin Peaks again.
Twin Peaks star Kyle MacLachlan shoots down the prospect of the iconic David Lynch series receiving a second reboot. Great TV shows can have divisive seasons - like Twin Peaks season 2 - with filler but also amazing moments. Lost season 6's controversial ending is worth revisiting for its character focus and themes. True Detective season 2 was critiqued, but had standout performances and should be re-evaluated.
Many great TV shows have had divisive seasons, and while some are genuinely irredeemable, others may be worth a second glance. Maintaining consistent excellence in television is incredibly difficult, as many shows tend to suffer from going on too long, and many others take their time to find their footing. For example, later seasons of The Walking Dead began to feel redundant, leading to a lackluster finale. On the other hand, The Simpsons struggled in its premiere season before becoming one of the most iconic shows of its era.

Twin Peaks pushed the boundaries of TV genres, combining drama, horror, and soap opera in a unique way. Russian Doll explored existential themes through a genre-bending mix of comedy, drama, and science fiction. BoJack Horseman began as a sitcom but evolved into a deeply sad drama, blending comedy, drama, and psychological exploration.
Certain TV shows were so unique that they could not be categorized into any one genre. While some television series could be spoken about in simple black-and-white terms, such as procedurals, sitcoms, or teen dramas, other shows have defied this type of classification and forged an identity that was so entirely their own that it became hard to even compare them to another existing series or popular genre. These are the types of television series that have pushed the boundaries of contemporary media and allowed for more creativity, experimentation, and unique storytelling devices to come into the mainstream.

Today’s cinematic marketplace seems to value nostalgia over anything else. Instead of investing in new projects, the industry has turned in itself, and reverted to almost solely making films that are adaptations, sequels, prequels, remakes, or reboots of some sort of previously existing property or franchise. One of the most common ways to characterize this is the term “legacy sequel.” This refers to films that essentially remake an original, but use it as a gateway to start a new franchise. More often that not, this results in failure; 2018’s Halloween had none of the thrills of John Carpenter’s original from 1978, 2016’s Independence Day: Resurgence made anyone that enjoyed the original 1996 film embarrassed by their nostalgia, and the Jurassic World trilogy represented some of the worst blockbuster filmmaking of the past several decades.
However, “legacy sequels” are not always failures. 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, 2017’s Blade Runner 2049,...

Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost reminisced at "what a warm and wonderful gentleman he was", and co-star Dana Ashbrook described him as "the sweetest of men...a wonderful storyteller", and marveled at his ability to roll a cigarette one-handed.

The David Lynch and Mark Frost series Twin Peaks made its premiere on ABC in 1990 and ran for two seasons before being cancelled. It was followed by the feature film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, and a couple decades later the series was revived for a third season on Showtime, called Twin Peaks: The Return. While we anxiously wait to see if Lynch and Frost are going to bring us any more stories set in the world of Twin Peaks, the Spooky Empire convention in Orlando, Florida gathered several of the show’s cast members together for a reunion that stirred up all the feels.
Cast member Mädchen Amick shared a picture to Instagram that shows her enjoying a dinner with fellow cast members Dana Ashbrook, Sherilyn Fenn, Kyle MacLachlan, Sheryl Lee, and Kimmy Robertson.

Twin Peaks star MaÌ.dchen Amick shares a reunion photo with several of her former co-stars. Co-created by Mark Frost and David Lynch, Twin Peaks turned the investigation of Laura Palmer's murder into two landmark seasons, a feature film, tie-in books, and an acclaimed revival that came out in 2017. But more than any individual chapter of the trippy titular town, and the other locations it would eventually expand to, the show is remembered for the impact that it had on television as a medium.
The influence of Twin Peaks can be seen in many of the most notable series that have followed in its aftermath. Dramas as varied as Desperate Housewives, Veronica Mars, and Lost all have elements that link back to the work of Lynch and Frost. The Sopranos creator David Chase has also spoken at length about how Frost's small-screen storytelling served as a primary inspiration. The same is true of Riverdale,...

‘Please Baby Please’ Trailer: Karl Glusman and Andrea Riseborough Turn Heads in Gay Musical Fantasia
One of the wildest, campiest, least apologetic films of the 2022 festival season is “Please Baby Please.” Amanda Kramer’s 1950s-set LGBT musical thriller tells the story of a straight-passing married couple who begin questioning their conceptions of gender, sexuality, and monogamy after witnessing a murder and becoming involved with a greaser gang known as the Young Gents. The movie premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival and was soon acquired by Music Box Films, who is giving it a theatrical release later this year.
“There are many things we love about this film, including Andrea Riseborough’s fierce and fearless performance,” said Music Box Films’ Brian Andreotti. “Director Amanda Kramer’s bold mise en scene and stylized 1950s iconography combine to give adventurous audiences a highly entertaining musing on gender roles and desire that is both timely and timeless,”

David Lynch is a director who has always, in a way, been ahead of the curve. His vision throughout both his film and television projects is uncompromising, and even those that had received mixed reception during their release are often warmly regarded today (at least by Lynch fans).
Perhaps the most drastically re-evaluated Lynch film is "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me." The prequel film to his and Mark Frost's seminal series "Twin Peaks" was a critical and commercial flop upon release, with many criticizing its drastic tonal shift and bizarre imagery. What many people didn't realize at the time, however, is that "Fire Walk With Me" was perhaps the best example of Lynch's creative influences in action. The crumbling American Dream, the dissolution of the nuclear family, and the overall absurdity of societal pressures all play integral parts in this prequel.

Horror from the 80s can have a certain charm. They can be cheesy, funny, and most importantly fun. Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat is a good example of just how fun, if cheesy, eighties horror can be.
When a group of vampires settle in a lonely American Town they wear sun cream and drink synthetic blood to survive. With some of the vampires not happy with the situation and the machine that processes the synthetic blood not working they soon need help from the living. When they arrive, as well as a descendant of Van Helsing, a tensions boil over in the small town.
For fans of cult movies, the case of Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat will catch their eye straight away.

The most important memory for audiences to remember is the one Ethan (Sathya Sridharan) specifically tried to forget. His father (Nikolas Kontomanolis) is sitting at a desk telling him how things work in academia. Any idea, theory, or experiment that occurs in pursuit of a university-driven project belongs to said university. And since Paul is the head of the department, it all belongs to him. That’s not to say Ethan won’t get credit—scientific papers often have multiple authors and names listed below the person in charge. It merely confirms that he won’t receive all the acclaim. Nor should he. Whether Ethan cracked the case or not, the school has always been the catalyst. It’s their money that made it happen and the team that fulfilled its promise.
And let’s face it: the fact Ethan hasn’t forgotten that moment proves he hasn’t yet cracked anything.

We all know that we should never text or call or leave voicemails with people, late at night, after we've been drinking. Well, we should also not set up complicated programs and get under a machine that will alter the chemistry of our brains if we're drunk (maybe not even if we're sober). Eric Schultz’s feature debut, the indie sci fi flick Minor Premise. lands on VOD platforms December 4th. The first teaser has arrived and everything looks great so far. Really great. From what we can gleam from it it looks like our lead character, Ethan, has carried out an experiment at home (the best kind of science always happens at home) and has ended dividing into ten individuals, each with one of his character traits?
