Given that he's one of the most popular novelists in the history of American literature, it's not surprising that the novels and short stories of Stephen King have been adapted for film and television myriad times since the publication of his first book, "Carrie," in 1974. Obviously, we're all well aware of the many great movies that have been spawned by his work as well as the disasters, but these adaptations are so plentiful that it's easy to forget some of the merely meh-to-good ones that exist.
Yes, there was a big studio rendition of "Hearts of Atlantis" starring Anthony Hopkins and a young Anton Yelchin, and, no, you didn't imagine "The Night Flier" or "Mercy." The television adaptations are particularly easy to forget because, well, most of them are utterly, aggressively forgettable. A "Rose Red" miniseries really happened, and "Desperation" actually was turned into a TV movie. With depressingly few exceptions,...

In the United States, the last time any of the extant cast members of "Gilligan's Island" were united on screen, specifically to reprise their characters from the show, was for a 1992 episode of "Baywatch." The episode, titled "Now Sit Right Back and You'll Hear a Tale," saw some of the Baywatch lifeguards finding a small island off the coast of California where Gilligan (Bob Denver) and Mary Ann (Dawn Wells) had been stranded for a few years. They explained that they left their original island in a daring escape, only to become equally stranded on another island. Sadly, by the end of "Now Sit Right Back," it was revealed that Gilligan and Mary Ann weren't real, and that the events of the episode were all a dream.

With Stranger Things concluding in epic fashion this year, The Duffer Brothers (that’s Matt and Ross) are going to have to find a way to fill their time; after all, they’ve spent a decade on that show alone. With that, The Duffer Brothers have a couple of projects going on, one of which is The Boroughs, another project in development for Netflix. And while it might not be taking viewers to the Upside Down, it does share some qualities.
The Duffer Brothers turned up at the Next on Netflix event this week to not only promote Stranger Things but The Boroughs and Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, in which they will serve as executive producers. On these, Matt said, “Of the two projects, The Boroughs probably shares the most DNA with Stranger Things because it’s about a group of misfits who fight an otherworldly evil.

When word of The Boroughs, a new series produced by Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers, first got out more than two years ago, the supernatural/horror drama was referred to as “Stranger Things at a retirement home.”
Netflix pushed back at that description and the link between the two shows. At the streamer’s Next on Netflix 2025 slate presentation Wednesday, the Duffers made the connection themselves, revealing for the first time that, like their Stranger Things counterparts, the characters in The Burroughs also will be battling “otherworldly evil.”
The Duffers made the comments while speaking about two upcoming series from their Upside Down Pictures, The Boroughs and Something Very Bad is Going to Happen.

While plenty of incredible fantasy films have come out in recent years — as well as a whole slew of great fantasy movies set to release in 2025 – the genre is also full of incredible classics from years past that every fan must see at some point. Some of these make great fantasy movies for beginners; others are more nuanced takes on the art form because of their age or subject matter, or are the launching points of massive film franchises.
These classic movies make for some of the most endearing stories in history, with some surprising similarities. Many are adapted from children's books or use storytelling as a framing device, which is appropriate given fantasy's roots in fairy tales and mythology. Many were also critical failures or fantasy box office flops. Yet all have endured for one reason or another, many becoming genuine slow-burn cult classic films because, at their heart,...

2024 is nearly over, and while we have seen some brilliant horror films come out this year, I don’t think it has been such a great year for the genre. With most horror films flopping at the box office and the dreaded Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey sequel coming out, it all felt wrong. But don’t worry because I have picked out the 18 best horror films that have come out this year. I haven’t ranked the films in the article and I will update the list as more films come out.

In an era of cinematic sameness, Jt Mollner's Strange Darling shines as a bold, unique thriller that deserves far more attention than it received upon its release. This indie gem combines a riveting nonlinear narrative, stellar performances, a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack, and breathtaking cinematography to craft an experience unlike any other. It’s a film that balances surrealism, suspense, and emotional depth, making it a prime candidate to join the ranks of cult classics like Donnie Darko and Mulholland Drive.
Unfortunately, due to a combination of marketing missteps and limited theatrical availability, Strange Darling struggled to find its audience. However, its dedicated fanbase, enthusiastic critical acclaim, and inherent haunting qualities all but guarantee its rediscovery. As it continues to gain traction through word-of-mouth and streaming platforms, this future classic’s star is bound to rise.

Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story has become the festive film of the 2024 holiday season, but how well do the Hallmark stars know holiday trivia? TV Insider sat down with Tyler Hynes, Hunter King, Diedrich Bader, Megyn Price, and Ed Begley Jr. to quiz them on their knowledge. Bader hilariously left the room when Begley Jr. admitted that he hadn’t seen A Christmas Story before. What Ralphie wanted for Christmas in the holiday classic stumped most of the cast, but Hynes got pretty close, so we gave him the point. They all had great guesses for the highest-grossing Christmas movie ever, but Hynes won that round with Home Alone. The cast then had a fun moment when we asked which of the movie’s stars was born on Christmas Eve. Spoiler alert: It’s Bader! Just don’t ask them which show originated the word “Chrismukkah.” The O.C.

When Hallmark+ was announced in summer 2024, it was revealed that Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas movies would not be added to the app.
“‘Countdown to Christmas’ remains a linear experience,” Hallmark Media’s EVP of Programming, Lisa Hamilton Daly told Variety at the time.
She added, “The content on the app is going to be Holidazed, Mistletoe Murders, our unscripted shows and a couple of movie trilogies coming up that we haven’t announced yet. There’s going to be a bunch of holiday content, but it’s going to be separate and different from what’s on linear.”
Well, Hallmark is giving fans a special gift before Christmas by adding nearly all of this year’s new movies.
15 movies have already been added and there are 24 more movies being added on Friday (December 20).
Hallmark+ is available for $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. Subscribers will also get Hallmark Store rewards for having a membership.

Just before Halloween back in 2022, it was announced that Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner – who both have experience working in the Scream franchise, as Fitzgerald was in the Scream TV series and Gallner appeared in the 2022 Scream movie – were set to star in the “cat and mouse thriller” Strange Darling. The movie was given a theatrical release back in August, and JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols loved it; you can read his 9/10 review at This Link. It has since moved on to digital and physical media releases… but distributor Magenta Light Productions feels that it should have performed better at the box office, and believe it would have if the film had a better marketing campaign. Since its spectacular debut in 2007, the fan-favorite sitcom The Big Bang Theory continues to attract and entertain audiences all around the globe, with the juggernaut hit going on to become one of the most popular TV shows of all time and launching a lucrative and enduring franchise. Tbbt ran for 12 dazzling seasons and was the recipient of numerous accolades, like 10 Primetime Emmys, with its massive success leading to the development of two knockout spin-offs: Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage.
The coming-of-age series Young Sheldon serves as a prequel to Tbbt and chronicles the genius Sheldon Cooper's upbringing in the small Texas town of Medford during the late '80s and '90s. Zoe Perry memorably starred as Sheldon's devoted mother Mary for seven seasons, taking over the role from film and TV great Laurie Metcalf, who sporadically appeared as the character throughout the course of Tbbt.

If there’s one thing Landman knows how to do, it’s throwing chaos, drama, and a little bit of heartfelt awkwardness into a blender and serving it up as must-watch TV.
Landman Season 1 Episode 5, “Where Is Home,” doesn’t just ask where you live — it asks where you truly belong.
And for most of these characters, the answer is somewhere between “I have no idea” and “definitely not here.”
(Emerson Miller/Paramount+)
The title sets the tone for an episode full of quiet moments and explosive ones (sometimes literally) as the characters grapple with their pasts, relationships, and the hard truths of their world.
From Angela’s desperate attempt to create a family dinner to Cooper’s growing tensions with Ariana’s cousins, everyone’s reaching for a sense of home — but nobody seems to know how to hold onto it.

Within the blink of an eye, 9-1-1 Season 8 rolled out its first half, leaving us in that lowly hiatus period until the show returns in late winter next year.
Coming off a shortened 9-1-1 Season 7, the series launched with another three-part opening disaster, which, by all accounts, was a rousing success. Then, it settled back into some character-focused storylines to close out the season.
But while the opening hour had everyone buzzing, subsequent hours were more hit or miss, with some stories being speedrun through, beloved characters being sidelined at times, and disjointed storylines leaving us frustrated.
(Disney/Ray Mickshaw)
Even with some missteps, the season has had some great moments and continues to be one of the most riveting series on television.

Even with some missteps, the season has had some great moments and continues to be one of the most riveting series on television.

Lord, take us to church because it looks like NCIS: Origins’ golden boy, Randy, is about to drop the nice guy act. Everyone reacts to religion in their own way.
Many viewers have been curious about other characters on the show, with Randy being a top contender. While we’d love to know what is going on with Lala, there’s always time for the sweetest guy at the Nis.
NCIS: Origins will be taking audiences to Sunday service in “Sick as Our Secrets.” That’s quite the episode title to go with, and it invokes some pretty intense possibilities.
(Erik Voake/CBS)
At this point in the series, viewers can expect each episode to feature multiple heart-wrenching scenes from one character or another.
So, stock up on the Kleenex because I doubt NCIS: Origins Season 1 Episode 8 will be any different.
One thing that can definitely be said about NCIS: Origins...

The Super Bowl of retail — Black Friday. It’s the one day a year when holiday cheer takes a backseat to consumer chaos.
What began in the 1950s as a clever post-Thanksgiving sales boost has morphed into a high-stakes shopping spectacle, complete with long lines, doorbuster deals, and a hearty dose of madness.
Back in the day, shoppers braved freezing temps to snag the hottest items — Playstations, TVs, or even $2 kids’ pajamas — while packed parking lots and marathon lines turned malls into battlefields.
(Fox/Screenshots)
I still remember digging through stacks of $5 DVD box sets while others swept entire shelves into their carts without a second glance.
From store to store, we raced, chasing deals until exhaustion kicked in. Was it worth it? Maybe. Was it fun? Absolutely.
In recent years, online shopping and Black Friday “week” sales have shifted the action to scrolling screens, but the stress, frenzy, and absurdity live on.

These days, trigger warnings exist for everything under the sun, including the giant fiery star in the sky.
TV has parental warnings, but it would be great to have dog alerts, too. TV has a lot of scenes and sounds that can be as disturbing to dogs as some scenes are to people.

Hunter King and Tyler Hynes are sparking a romantic connection in the trailer for Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story.
Hallmark and the NFL teamed up to produce the holiday movie, which sees a Kansas City Chiefs superfan and the team’s director of fan engagement fall in love. While the film isn’t based on anything specifically, the film does come after global superstar Taylor Swift made waves in the football world when she started dating Chiefs star Travis Kelce last year.
“Alana Higman (King) is sure that her family’s lifelong history as Kansas City Chiefs superfans makes them a frontrunner to win the team’s ‘Fan of the Year’ contest. Derrick (Hynes), director of fan engagement, is tasked with evaluating how Alana and her family stack up against the other two finalists. As the pair spends time together, it’s clear there’s a spark between them...

NBC’s long-running hit sitcom Night Court revolved around the idiosyncratic cases argued in its titular location, and the lovable weirdos who worked there — none weirder than youthful judge Harry Stone (Harry Anderson), who never let his work on the bench interfere with his true passion: close-up magic.
The sequel series, which premiered last year, doesn’t stray too far from the original. Once again, the presiding Night Court judge is young, quirky and optimistic about most people she meets. She’s also a Judge Stone — Judge Abby Stone (Melissa Rauch), Harry’s daughter. She’s exactly the kind of judge who would eagerly sign up for a program called Operation Second Chance, which hires formerly incarcerated people. And since original prosecutor Olivia Moore (India de Beaufort) has departed since the Season Two finale, Abby’s decided to fill the vacancy with Julianne, whose record for (among other crimes) arson has recently been expunged.
