The third season of Taylor Sheridan's mob drama Tulsa King is expanding its cast with new additions. Avatar: Fire and Ash promises more visual spectacle and emotional depth than previous Avatar installments as director James Cameron's threequel tries to match the high bars the first two films set. Positive early reactions to the upcoming tentpole keep coming, with Disney CEO Bob Iger awed by the cut he saw of the movie.
During the 2025 Annual Meeting of Shareholders (via GamesRadar+), Iger commented on Fire and Ash after seeing Cameron's early cut of the sci-fi blockbuster. Speaking during a segment where Disney showcased several new releases, Iger shared his thoughts on the upcoming Avatar title, claiming, "It is absolutely breathtaking." Unlike many of the other new releases shown during the meeting, which aired preview footage, Fire and Ash only got the logo treatment and Na'vi concept art.

After three seasons on Disney+, former bounty hunter Din Djarin and his adorable Yoda-like sidekick's adventures in the galaxy far, far away are set to continue on the big screen in next year's The Mandalorian and Grogu, and Disney has now revealed a first look at the movie's official logo.
The image isn't particularly exciting, only featuring the heroes in silhouette form while basically just adding "and Grogu" to the existing title treatment.
Grogu's mysterious alien race ages very slowly (he was still an infant at 50 when we first met him in season one), but we have heard that he will be a "little older" when we catch up with him in this movie, which could create a whole new dynamic between the title characters.
Check out the logo (via Screen Rant) at the link below.

One Battle After Another will officially slug it out with the fall’s top awards contenders. On Thursday, Warner Bros. confirmed Paul Thomas Anderson’s new movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, initially dated somewhat perplexingly for Aug. 8, will arrive in theaters on Sept. 26 — a release date that all but assures Anderson’s latest of launching at one of the significant fall festivals in Venice, Telluride, or Toronto.
Still, regardless of its calendar placement, One Battle After Another was always considered one of the year’s top potential Oscar films, sight unseen. Anderson’s movies have racked up several nominations over the last two decades, as have DiCaprio’s many acclaimed features. It’s always possible that One Battle After Another is the exception, not the rule — especially because Anderson’s last dalliance with the work of Thomas Pynchon, Inherent Vice (more on that below), didn’t connect with the Academy significantly.

For the first time, legendary visual futurist Syd Mead will have a major exhibition of his paintings. “Future Pastime” will run March 28-May 21 at the former Mitchell-Innes & Nash gallery space in Chelsea.
Long before the metaverse, Mead was crafting immersive future worlds that have shaped our collective imagination and became a defining force in science fiction cinema, designing iconic worlds. From the neon-drenched streets of Blade Runner (1982) to the sleek, geometric landscapes of Tron (1982), his influence on sci-fi films is undeniable. His designs also impacted Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) 2010 (1984), Aliens (1986), and many more. They even inspired Elon Musk’s Cybertruck.
Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1933, Mead was a visionary artist who redefined how we imagine the future. Leonardo DiCaprio is one of Hollywood's most prominent icons, emerging from a child star to a heartthrob, and evolving into a gifted and talented actor who still commands box-office success. Following global superstardom in James Cameron's Titanic, he reinvented himself as a versatile and interesting leading man, and so far, DiCaprio has made six feature films with legendary director Martin Scorsese. Awards success followed, with DiCaprio winning numerous accolades throughout his acting career, including three Golden Globes from seventeen nominations, and a BAFTA Award.
However, despite several prominent Oscar snubs for DiCaprio, he has enjoyed success at the Academy Awards, where he has enjoyed six acting nominations; Best Supporting Actor for What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, and Best Actor for Blood Diamond, The Aviator, The Wolf of Wall Street, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and The Revenant, finally winning for The Revenant in 2016. Stability AI, the generative artificial intelligence company behind the popular Stable Diffusion image model, has hired visual effects legend Robert Legato as its chief pipeline architect.
A three-time Academy Award winner (for Titanic, Huge and The Jungle Book), Legato is also a longtime collaborator of director James Cameron, and helped develop the virtual cinematography techniques used in Avatar.
Cameron is a board member of Stability AI, having joined the company a year ago.
Stability CEO Prem Akkaraju announced Legato’s hiring Wednesday, tasking the VFX expert with developing a pipeline for the company’s tools in the industry, and developing a relationship with the VFX industry writ large.
“Joining Stability AI is an incredible opportunity, and I couldn’t be more excited to help shape the next era of filmmaking,” said Legato in a statement. “With dynamic leaders like Prem Akkaraju and Jim Cameron driving the vision, the potential here is limitless.

Hollywood has seen its fair share of demanding directors, Kubrick made actors do a scene 127 times, Tarantino nearly set Uma Thurman on fire, and Hitchcock? Well, let’s just say he had peculiar directing methods. But none come close to James Cameron, a man so dedicated to his craft that he practically asks his cast to breathe underwater.
From Titanic to Avatar, Cameron has cemented himself as the king of the deep, the blue, and the technologically mind-boggling. He’s not here to make his actors comfortable, he’s here to make a masterpiece. If that means actors are cold, wet, and on the verge of hypothermia, so be it!

Anthony and Joe Russo, the Russo Brothers, have directed some of the biggest movies of all time, with their film Avengers: Endgame coming in second place just behind James Cameron’s Avatar – and on March 14th, the Netflix streaming service released their latest film, the robot adventure The Electric State. The film topped the English films chart on Netflix over its debut weekend – but managed to do so with a surprisingly low number of views. The Electric State reached #1 with 25.2 million views, which pales in comparison to the debut numbers of recent hits like Back in Action (46.8 million views) and Carry On (42 million views), but is slightly higher than last year’s release of Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver. Still, this is the third Millie Bobby Brown-led film to debut at #1 for Netflix, following last year’s Damsel (which got started with 35.3 million views) and 2022’s Enola Holmes 2,...

Once upon a time, “indie director” meant someone scraping together pennies to shoot a movie in their backyard with a borrowed camera and a dream. These days? It’s a bit of a mixed bag. Some indie filmmakers stay true to their low-budget roots, crafting unique, artsy, and deeply personal stories.
Others take that indie street cred, sell out, and go on to direct the next billion-dollar superhero flick. Either way, the indie-to-mainstream pipeline is real, and Hollywood loves plucking fresh talent from the festival circuit and handing them a massive franchise to steer.

James Cameron’s marriage with Linda Hamilton ended on a tumultuous note, and the actress reveals it wasn’t because of his affair with Titanic’s Suzy Amis. Ne Zha 2, the Chinese animated sequel that's been taking the global box office by storm since arriving in theaters back in January, has now passed another major global milestone.
Having already out-grossed Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War and dethroning Inside Out 2 to become the biggest animated film of all time, Ne Zha 2 has now taken in a whopping $2.085 billion worldwide to take Star Wars: The Force Awakens' spot as the fifth highest-grossing movie ever at the global box office.
The fantasy adventure is expected to climb as high as $2.1 billion by the end of its theatrical run in China, and is still awaiting release in Indonesia, Japan, and several European markets. This should give the movie another significant box office boost, but can it earn enough to pass Titanic's $2.264 billion and enter the top 4?

Action is easily one of cinema's most entertaining genres, and adventure often goes hand-in-hand with it. Action-adventure movies have undergone many changes over the years, but action has always captivated its audience's hearts and minds worldwide. Whether through jaw-dropping fight choreography or massively epic explosions, the action keeps people watching, and the adventure keeps them invested.
These action-adventure movies have a central character with almost inhuman skills, a villain worthy of the worst beatings, and an adventure that requires dangerous stunts like jumping out of planes and battles with small armies of foes. However, they also have a human component on which the average viewer stakes emotional investment. The best action and adventure movies aren't just entertaining romps — they help define their genre. Every film on this list has one, the other, or both in spades, and each is essential viewing for fans.

It may be surprising to hear, but nearly a decade after it shattered box office records, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has been left in the dust. Indeed, Disney and Lucasfilm's wildly successful, $2 billion revival of the "Star Wars" franchise has been overtaken at the box office by an unexpected sequel. Welcome to the top five highest-grossing movies of all time, "Ne Zha 2."
One would be forgiven for not even knowing of "Ne Zha 2" but the Chinese animated blockbuster has been on a tear ever since it was released earlier this year. So much so that it has now amassed $2.08 billion worldwide — with almost all of that coming from China. That is enough to put it past "The Force Awakens," which made $2.07 billion globally. That means the "Star Wars" film now falls to number six on the all-time charts,...

Scientific inaccuracies in movies are forgivable at best, and suspension-of-disbelief shattering at worst. Most of us understand some liberties have to be taken. For example, shooting a car's gas tank almost definitely won't make it blow up, but I sure like watching that happen, so I’m not going to make a stink about it.
Still, some things cause the collective public’s eye to twitch, and we’re very questionably educated. For actual scientists, goofs like various acids destroying a door lock in one second flat have to cause scholarly sighs.
Computer science probably needs its own hotline.
What can you do, though? Do you want every movie to hire scientists to review their scripts and stand around on set explaining how slowly chloroform actually works? What do you think, the movie industry is made of money? Actually, let me rephrase that: What do you think, the movie industry...

Joseph Kosinski has been building an impressive filmography over the last 15 years as a director. After working on videos, Kosinski would direct his first feature film in 2010, with the sequel Tron: Legacy. Though it received mixed reviews, the film's iconic soundtrack and distinctive visual layout would renew interest in the Tron franchise nearly 30 years after the Jeff Bridges original. This year, the series will continue with Tron: Ares, but Kosinski will not be directing.
The director came into prominence when he helmed Top Gun: Maverick in 2022. Continuing a career trend starting with his feature film debut, the movie was a long-awaited sequel to an '80s movie. And it was a huge success. Top Gun: Maverick received rave reviews, and grossed just under $1.5 billion, becoming the second-highest grossing movie of 2022 (losing only to James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water). The film also received multiple Oscar nominations, winning Best Sound.

The Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, are stirring up conversation with their latest Netflix film, The Electric State. The movie, featuring Millie Bobby Brown as Michelle Greene, Chris Pratt as John Keats, Stanley Tucci as Ethan Skate, and Woody Norman as Christopher Greene, explores a world after a robot-human war.
With a massive $320 million budget, it’s already under scrutiny for its story and quality. Now, the directors have revealed they used AI to tweak voices in the film, adding fuel to an ongoing Hollywood debate.
Joe Russo explained that AI helped adjust some of the movie’s dialogue. He sees it as a simple process, saying, “Something any ten-year-old could do after watching a TikTok video.” He argues that AI is already common in the film industry, even if people don’t talk about it much. “There’s a lot of finger-pointing and hyperbole because people are afraid. They don’t understand.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is the latest chapter in the emotional journey that Jake Sully and his family have navigated throughout the sci-fi film series. Sam Worthington's Sully has become a relatable character throughout the Avatar franchise, with director James Cameron claiming the main protagonist is partially based on his real-life personality.
Speaking with Empire, Cameron stated that the Avatar film series' main characters were created and written using inspiration from his life and the experiences of his co-writers, including Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno. According to the Oscar-winning filmmaker, Sully's personality mirrors his, particularly his parenting approach.
"These characters are amalgams of us, our childhoods, our role as parents, the mistakes we made, and probably to some extent continue to make as parents. A lot of self-reflection," he said. "I mean, Jake is a hard-ass motherf**ker. He's very hard on his kids. Well,...

In the '80s and '90s, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger were engaged in an ongoing battle to become the number one action star in America. On the one hand you had Stallone, who, after catapulting himself to stardom with 1976's "Rocky," maintained his standing as an A-lister by becoming the archetypal action hero in the "Rambo" saga. That franchise began in 1982 with a somewhat grounded character study of a Vietnam vet haunted by his experiences overseas before transmogrifying into the epitome of the '80s macho-fests we now associate with the decade. Meanwhile, despite thinking James Cameron's "Terminator" script had no potential, Schwarzenegger agreed to star in the 1984 low-budget sci-fi slasher, immediately becoming a star as a result. He then fronted some of the most beloved action movies of the '80s and '90s, and all the while he and Sly were taking some pretty overt jabs at one another.

James Cameron’s Avatar 3 will make its way to the cinemas this December, and with its star-studded cast, many fans might still be wondering why comedian Ben Stiller is not yet a part of the project, especially after he transformed himself into a Na’vi at the 2010 Oscars event.
James Cameron / Credits: CTV News
His amazing makeup at the said event definitely warrants him a place in the movie, but of course, it was only a way to pay homage to Cameron’s highly successful franchise as well as add some fun during that night’s awarding ceremony.

Ben Stiller surprised the crowd at the 82nd Academy Awards in 2010 when he came out from the backstage wearing a black suit while sporting a Na’vi makeup. His iconic stare, which lasted for a couple of seconds, immediately sent the audience laughing out loud.

Ne Zha 2 Worldwide Box Office: Chasing The Global Haul Of Titanic (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Ne Zha 2 recently surpassed the lifetime haul of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and entered the top five all-time highest-grossers list worldwide. The next target is James Camrron’s Titanic, but we are speculating whether or not the Chinese animation will be able to surpass that. It is still collecting favorable numbers at the box office in China and has completed seven six weeks of ruling at #1. Keep scrolling for the latest deets.
The film’s unprecedented dailies are something that has never been seen in modern times in any market, including China. To become the highest-grossing film in a single market in just eleven days was something beyond imagination until the Ne Zha sequel happened. In 1997, director Paul Verhoeven and screenwriter Edward Neumeier, the makers of 1987's "RoboCop," reteamed to make "Starship Troopers," a satirical take on Robert A. Heinlein's 1959 novel. "Starship Troopers" takes place in a future where Earth has, for many decades, been at war with giant, intelligent insects from a distant planet. Human society, however, has devolved into a fascist state, and people have all become empty-headed, fist-pumping propaganda vehicles. Media has become bite-sized, and in-your-face. It's no coincidence that the humans are all wearing very Nazi-like uniforms by the film's end.
"Starship Troopers" wasn't fully appreciated in 1997. It got mostly negative reviews, and many critics didn't seem to pick up on its more satirical elements. It was also only a modest hit, making $121 million on a $100 million budget (sizable at the time). Since then, however, it found its audience, proliferating on home video and on the midnight movie circuit. Its...

Avatar director James Cameron reveals that Jake Sully is partially based on himself. Released in 2009, the sci-fi fantasy film remains not just Cameron's most successful film ever, but the highest-grossing movie of all time. At the 2013 Academy Awards, visual effects supervisor Bill Westenhofer, accepting the award for Rhythm & Hues’ work on Ang Lee’s “Life of Pi,” approached the microphone. “Sadly, Rhythm & Hues is suffering serious financial difficulties now,” he said. “I urge you all to remember …”
Then they started playing John Williams’ ominous theme from “Jaws.” The camera cut to Nicole Kidman, who was seen mouthing the words “poor thing.” Had Westenhofer been able to finish his speech, it would have highlighted the deep schism between the visual effects and animation that audiences love and the financial realities for those who create them. Eleven days before the Oscar win, Rhythm & Hues had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
But what happened to Rhythm & Hues wasn’t a one-off; it was a warning shot. Twelve years later, two VFX and animation houses have shut their doors in a matter of weeks: Technicolor, whose studios like...

With movie awards season over, and rumors that Adrian Brody’s Oscar acceptance speech is finally coming to an end, the year 2025 sees a surprising amount of faces coming straight back into the conversation. For one, Zoe Saldaña will be putting her Supporting Actress Oscar to good use on the publicity trail for one of the biggest tentpoles of the year: James Cameron’s Fire and Ash, the third in the Avatar series, in which she reprises her role as Na’vi princess Neytiri.
It doesn’t seem especially likely that lightning will strike twice for Saldaña, but the win will bring extra gravitas to the franchise, which secured four nominations (including Best Picture) last time. Fire and Ash hits cinemas in the middle of December, usually a risky strategy, awards-wise — think Wonka, Nosferatu and even A Complete Unknown — but Cameron has good form on this front, and, presumably for...
