On March 10, 1997, spunky teenager Buffy quit her high school cheer squad to fulfill her destiny of slaying vampires and demons (while accidentally falling in love with one particularly handsome immortal)—and the world was never the same. Joss Whedon's wildly popular television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer not only ran for seven seasons but launched successful careers for nearly all of its regular cast members.
Its spin-off series Angel garnered a large viewership and starred Buffy the Vampire Slayer's David Boreanaz. But, Boreanaz and Sarah Michelle Gellar would eventually secure lead roles in even more noteworthy television shows and movies, along with fellow show actors Alyson Hannigan, Seth Green, James Marsters, Michelle Trachtenberg, Anthony Head, Nicholas Brendon and many others. Since this '90s teen sci-fi/fantasy show debuted 28 years ago, the fan base has loyally followed their favorite cast members to horror movies, sitcoms, procedural dramas, and even an iconic animation series.

Hulu and 20th Television’s Prison Break pilot from Elgin James is coming together as Emily Browning, Lukas Gage and Drake Rodger have been set as series regulars.
As we previously reported, James’ version will be its own thing and set within the same universe as the original Fox series of the same name from Paul Scheuring. This new project is not expected to involve the characters at the center of the Og project, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). The spinoff project was first revealed to be in development in late 2023 and was picked up to pilot in December.
While the plot of James’ version is under wraps, the trio’s character descriptions give a little insight.

At this point, it's safe to say that the "Cruel Intentions" franchise has experienced more downs than ups. The original 1999 movie, which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe as a pair of spoiled, incestuous step-siblings, is a bona fide cult classic that scored big at the box office, but the same can't be said about the direct-to-video sequels, which are largely forgotten these days. Unfortunately, the story hasn't found success as a streaming show either, with Variety reporting that the Prime Video series is no more. Cue The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" and let the waterworks flow.
The latest iteration of "Cruel Intentions" follows the elite students of Manchester College, a Washington-based academic institution where everyone wants to rule the social food chain. However, none of the students are more cunning or ruthless than Caroline Merteuil (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Lucien Belmont (Zac Burgess), a pair of rotten step-siblings who...

Back in November 2024, Prime Video tried its hand at remaking a classic cult film, Cruel Intentions. The 1999 movie stars Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe. The streamer decided to restart the franchise off with an 8-episode television series. Though its the end of the road for the show, clearly not hitting with audiences like its predecessors.
According to TVLine, Cruel Intentions on Prime Video has been cancelled after just one season. There was no reason given as to why the streaming service decided to go in this route. The company usually doesn't release viewership numbers like other streamer and networks do, and it doesn't have a Top 10 feature to help us gauge how many people were watching.
Though honestly if you just head to Rotten Tomatoes to see what viewers thought in general or look at what critics have written, this move really isn't a surprise. Not to sound cruel,...

There’s so much great TV out there, and most isn’t derived from legacy franchises.
Prime Video didn’t seem to get the memo because it continues to bring these excellent properties back to screens without the thrill of their predecessor.
The latest effort, Cruel Intentions, based on the hit movie of the same name, premiered in November 2024 and was pretty much ignored.
(Prime Video/Screenshot)
The 2024 version of Cruel Intentions was a below-average teen drama at best, playing out more like Max’s canceled Gossip Girl reboot, which had some redeeming qualities at the very least.
The 1999 Cruel Intentions had a compelling plot and a cast that included Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillipe, Reese Witherspoon, and Selma Blair.

As the lame follow-up movies can attest, you can’t reinvent the wheel without the cast that made it such a success in the first place.

Cruel Intentions will not return for a second season. The 2024 followup to the 1999 movie of the same name released its first (and now, only) installment last November.
The show endured a long road to release, starting first at Freevee in 2021 before moving to Prime Video in 2023. Before that, NBC had ordered and cancelled a different pilot inspired by the movie in 2016, and an attempted prequel series from Fox also never made it to air.
Amazon’s series starred Sarah Catherine Hook, Zac Burgess, Savannah Lee Smith, Sara Silva, John Harlan Kim, Khobe Clarke, Sean Patrick Thomas and Brooke Lena Johnson. Neal H. Moritz and Roger Kumble who produced (the former) and wrote and directed (the latter) the original film, also served as executive producers.

Image Source: Amazon Cruel Intentions is one of those rare Hollywood gems that managed to be both a box office hit and a cult classic. Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon the film has stayed a fan favorite for decades. Set in a New York prep school, the story—full of manipulation and seduction—takes its inspiration from the 18th-century French novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses. When we spoke to Reese Witherspoon around the time of the film’s release, she admitted the high school setting was nothing like her own teenage years. Luckily, director Roger Kumble, who drew from his personal experiences, helped her understand the privileged and cutthroat world the movie portrays. Amazon has dealt a cruel blow to fans of the teen drama remake of Cruel Intentions by shelving the series after a single season. Fans of the 1999 movie had been quite on board with this new take on the story, although critics panned it as another unnecessary rehash of a popular franchise that failed to capture anything that made the movie a cult classic.
According to Variety, Cruel Intentions, which took more than three years to make it from its original pitch to screens on Prime Video in November 2024, failed to land a place in the streaming Top 10 during its run, which is probably the biggest reason for its cancelation, but no doubt the dismal 24% from critics didn’t help its cause.
For those who have not seen the series, the synopsis reads, "Following the elite students of Manchester College, a Washington, D.C.-adjacent university, where reputation means everything,...

“Cruel Intentions” will not be returning to Prime Video.
Prime Video has opted not to renew “Cruel Intentions” for a second season, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap. The news comes just under four months after “Cruel Intentions” first launched on Prime Video in November.
The series, which was led by “The White Lotus” star Sarah Catherine Hook, reimagined the 1999 cult classic film of the same name as well as 1988’s “Dangerous Liaisons,” except this time the tale took place in collegiate Greek life.
Hook starred as Caroline Merteuil, who made a deal with her step-brother, Lucien Belmont (Zac Burgess), for Lucien to seduce naive newcomer and daughter of the VP, Annie Grover (Savannah Lee Smith), in order to sway her to join Caroline’s sorority as a way to shield her chapter from an ongoing hazing scandal. If Lucien was successful, Caroline promised him that she would give him what he really wanted: her.

The upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summerlegacy sequel will feature some of the original 1997 movie's core cast. However, franchise newcomer Jonah Hauer-King says the new installment will offer a lot more than nostalgia.
Speaking to Screen Rant at the 2025 South by Southwest film festival, Hauer-King hinted at what fans can expect from the film. "I have my final filming day on Monday," he said. "I did most of it in Sydney last year, and we had three weeks in LA. It's really fun. It's scary, I hope, and kind of hilarious. Some of the old faces are coming back - not old like age, just old from the previous movies - but they'll be back. There's more surprises, but I won't give anything away. Yeah, it's going to be great."
The currently untitled sequel is directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson from a script she co-wrote with Sam Lansky.

The I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel is highly anticipated among fans for a few reasons, not the least of which is the return of Jennifer Love Hewitt, who portrayed heroine Julie James in the first two films. Hewitt's return was long reported, but it took a bit of time for the news to become official, which caused some to worry that a deal couldn't be reached to bring her back. Nevertheless, a deal was made, and now Hewitt's return is being teased in a set image featuring a perfect callback to the 1997 horror hit that started it all.

It’s been 28 years since the original teen horror/slasher flick I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) premiered with its all-star cast featuring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Ryan Phillippe. With the reboot film set for a Summer 2025 release, Prinze Jr. is giving a few details on the new take on I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Per Comic Book, Prinze Jr. sat down to chat about the new movie on the Scale Talk Podcast With David Miniatures and said that while he and Hewitt’s characters appear in the new film, don’t expect to see a lot of their respective characters, Ray Bronson and Julie James.
“(Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson) just took such good care of Love’s character, Julie James, and my character, Ray Bronson,” said the Scooby-Doo actor. “They’re not the leads of the movie by any stretch of the imagination,...

While plot details for the I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel remain under wraps, we're now learning that the reboot will not focus on Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt's characters. The two will reprise their roles as Ray Bronson and Julie James from the original film and its 1998 sequel, but according to Prinze Jr., he and Hewiitt are "not the leads of the movie by any stretch of the imagination." Prinze Jr. recently appeared on Scale Talk Podcast with David Miniatures, where he discussed how co-writer and director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) integrated Julie and Ray into the upcoming movie.
"[Kaytin Robinson] just took such good care of Love's character, Julie James, and my character, Ray Bronson. They're not the leads of the movie by any stretch of the imagination," Prinze Jr. explains in his new chat with the show." He added: "[Kaytin Robinson] made them such...

While war movies can offer a glimpse into major historical conflicts, the unfortunate reality is that the end of a war is just one part of the story for many soldiers. Over the years, there have been many great post-war movies, most of which examine the physical and psychological effects of war on returning soldiers, with trauma, survivors' guilt and society's treatment of veterans all being common themes.
Many of the best post-war movies were made in the years directly following a conflict, and they managed to capture the mood of an entire society. In some cases, these movies don't have to address the war head-on, since the shadows of large conflicts can hang over countries for years in one way or another. Even the best war movies rarely have time to appropriately address the aftermath of war, both on a personal level and on a broader societal scale.

Vanderpump Rules alum Lala Kent shocked fans when she announced in a November 2024 episode of her Give Them Lala podcast that her personal assistant and podcast co-host, Jessica Walter, would no longer be working for her. Lala didn't give much detail as to why Jessica was suddenly leaving, but it kept many fans up at night.
Jessica broke her silence, but still, fans weren't given much information as to what exactly happened between the two women. Jessica was first introduced to Vpr viewers in Season 9, when Lala needed a personal assistant. They immediately clicked after the mom of two shared that their zodiac signs matched up perfectly.
Before the new year, Lala finally addressed Jessica's sudden departure. However, fans are wondering if it's just another bridge she's burned, as she's done with her co-stars.

The terms "heartthrob" and "movie star" often go hand in hand, as Hollywood was built on stories of young, attractive people. In most live-action projects on both the big and small screens, there is usually an actor meant to be the main eye candy, or at the very least, be pleasant for the audience to look at. Although this approach to casting is without a doubt shallow, as actors should be hired for their skill of the craft, heartthrobs still exist in modern cinema. But, thankfully, many viewers are sensitive enough not to objectify actors.
Hollywood heartthrob culture reached a fever pitch in the 2000s, when most films premiered exclusively in theaters and people still read magazines detailing the lives of their favorite celebrities. While pop culture has largely moved away from declaring which actors receive heartthrob statuses, it is essential to reflect on a time when an actor could...

Warning: Some Spoilers lie ahead for I Know What You Did Last Summer!
The '90s marked a revolutionary shift for the horror genre as filmmakers started to focus on the slasher formula, thanks in large part to Scream's success. One of the keys to that movie's success was writer Kevin Williamson, who not only went on to pen its direct sequel, but also found success with 1997's I Know What You Did Last Summer. Unfortunately, that success is far more of a financial one than a critical one, and some 27 years later, it's pretty clear why reviewers weren't so kind to it.
Loosely based on Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel I Know What You Did Last Summer, this 1997 slasher follows a group of friends who, after covering up a car accident, are stalked by a killer wielding a hook. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Freddie Prinze Jr.,...

Matthew McConaughey Marvel Hulk (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Imagine Matthew McConaughey as Bruce Banner. The guy who crushed it in Magic Mike and won an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club almost played the Hulk. But Marvel didn’t have it. He spilled the rejection on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, saying, “Wanted it.” He threw his hat in the ring, but Marvel passed with a “No, thank you.” Ouch.
By the time the MCU hit, McConaughey was at the top of his game—A Time to Kill, rom-coms, then the “McConaissance” in Magic Mike, Killer Joe, and Interstellar. With superhero films everywhere, he thought, why not him?
McConaughey’s love for the Hulk goes back to the classic The Incredible Hulk TV show. So when Marvel was casting, he figured he was the guy. But nope. Marvel went with Edward Norton in The Incredible Hulk (2008), and by The Avengers (2012), Mark Ruffalo was the one smashing it.

There's nothing worse for TV fans getting invested in a new series only to be disappointed by an early cancelation. While some shows get canceled after one or two seasons, there are actually several instances in Hollywood in which shows get canceled before even premiering. This was especially common in the pre-streaming era, where network TV had to produce pilots that were to be approved by the studio heads before being given a full series green light.
There are several reasons why some shows never make it past their pilot, whether it's the plot, characters, casting, budget, or just not working enough to justify the cost of a full season. Often, these failed shows never release their pilots publicly, meaning many of these series became defined as "lost media." While some of these shows were reworked into other series, many never made it broadcast.

The horror genre keeps riding the wave of legacy sequels and reboots, through which some of the biggest franchises have been brought back to life – so it’s not that surprising that two unlikely horror franchises are returning, too. The film industry has greatly benefited from reboots and legacy sequels in recent years, mostly in the horror genre, even if not all of these have succeeded. Franchises like The Exorcist and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre returned with one movie that didn’t perform well, while others like Friday the 13th continue to face many challenges that stop them from coming back.
Other horror franchises have greatly benefited from this trend, as happened with Halloween and Scream, while others will be getting a new chance, as is the case for The Exorcist. All these franchises are some of the most successful, popular, and profitable ones in the genre, so it was...

The 1990s weren’t the strongest decade for horror movies, but they still gave us some unforgettable classics that ultimately shaped the genre’s future. Struggling to match the creativity of earlier eras, the '90s moved away from the gritty style of the '70s and '80s and tried new approaches. The decade leaned heavily into psychological horror and self-aware storytelling, with standout films like The Silence of the Lambs and Scream redefining the realm of horror.
While there was a fair share of uninspired sequels and repetitive slasher films, the 1990s marked a shift in how audiences experienced fear, giving way to suspense, atmosphere, and clever twists over pure shock value. During the '90s, horror reached more people through mainstream hits, proving it could be both a box office success and win critical praise. Despite its challenges, the era proved to be a key turning point for horror movies,...

Sony Pictures has announced that cameras are now officially rolling on the I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel, and we have a first behind-the-scenes image featuring a familiar-looking hook.
Ben Willis, aka The Fisherman, was the seemingly unkillable villain of the original trilogy. Believed to be a normal man who set out to take revenge on the group of teens who left him for dead in the first movie, he survived all manner of carnage in the two sequels with zero explanation.
Whether this will turn out to be Willis or a copycat killer remains to be seen.
The studio has also confirmed that both Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are set to reprise their respective roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson, but there's no mention of Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Last week, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star posted an Instagram photo from the set,...
