The chainsaw may have gathered dust, but Leatherface is far from done. Verve, the agency representing the rights to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise since 2017, is reportedly at the centre of a bidding frenzy as Hollywood circles one of horror’s most enduring properties.
Now over 50 years since Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel unleashed their low-budget terror classic onto unsuspecting audiences, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is once again primed for a return to the screen. This time, however, it’s not just another sequel on the cards, but a potential franchise overhaul—and all eyes are on the players vying to take the reins.
One such contender is Strange Darling director Jt Mollner, fresh off the success of his critically acclaimed cat-and-mouse thriller, which has quietly grossed $3 million and earned a rare 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. Mollner is reportedly interested in tackling a new Chainsaw instalment, with buzz growing around a potential collaboration with Glen Powell,...

Exclusive: Studios and filmmakers are knocking on Verve’s door as the agency is sitting on bloody good IP that they’re looking to take on the town: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Verve has repped the rights for the slasher series created by Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel since 2017.
At a time when horror and franchises are really the only surefire bets at the post-Covid and strike-impacted box office, the 51-year-old horror property about a chainsaw-wielding serial killer still has potential to make a killing.
One of the parties, we hear, showing interest in reviving Texas Chainsaw Massacre is filmmaker/scribe Jt Mollner and producer Roy Lee, hot off Strange Darling, their $3 million-grossing, 96% certified Rotten Tomatoes cult hit. If Mollner gets a script together, word is that Glen Powell would like to read it. It’s very early days on this; no contracts or attachments as of yet, and the...

At this time last year, few likely had heard of Richard Gadd or Jessica Gunning, and the term “baby reindeer” didn’t immediately call to mind a harrowing exploration of sexual abuse and codependency. Yet, within a month, Baby Reindeer became one of last year’s most widely seen shows, and when the Emmy Awards announced its winners in the limited series and movie categories in September, Gadd, Gunning, and Baby Reindeer won. That’s illustrative of how quickly fortunes can change in the limited series race, which typically resets each season (save for an anthology series like Monsters or Fargo). Ahead, the early 2025 Emmy Awards odds in the movie/limited series categories.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy has helped the overall quadrilogy outgross an even bigger franchise. The new movie is the fourth installment in the romantic comedy series, which follows the life and romantic travails of Renée Zellweger's title character. It is a Peacock exclusive in the United States, but its international theatrical release has seen it gross more than $100 million worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing English-language movie of 2025 at the time of writing.
Per The Numbers, over the course of its fifth weekend in theaters, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy has pushed the overall four-film rom-com franchise to a cumulative gross of $856.6 million worldwide. This week marks the end of another SXSW Film & TV Festival, where IndieWire’s “Screen Talk” co-host Ryan Lattanzio was on the ground to review and cover films including Nicole Kidman’s suburban satire “Holland,” A24’s horror-comedy “Death of a Unicorn,” and Matthew McConaughey’s first film role in six years with the bluegrass-tinted Oklahoma Western “The Rivals of Amziah King.”
We recap the festival on this week’s “Screen Talk” episode, where documentaries including “The Python Hunt” (the latest nonfiction film from Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s Artists Equity after U2 doc “Kiss the Future” and Jennifer Lopez’s “The Greatest Love Story Never Told”) and the UFO investigation “The Age of Disclosure” popped on the ground. “The Python Hunt” centers on a snake-hunting contest in the Florida Everglades and has earned comparisons to “Tiger King.” Meanwhile, while “The Age of Disclosure” wowed audiences with its talking-heads...

At a time when most big-budget franchises seem to be targeted at male audiences, the Bridget Jones series is an anomaly, aimed at the underserved female demographic. The franchise is now nearly a quarter-century old, and is on the verge of passing a humongous global box office milestone thanks to its latest installment, the very well-received Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. During the last 25 years, the central character has established itself as a cultural icon in the United Kingdom, and has sustained star Renée Zellweger's career through drastic peaks and valleys.

Renee Zellweger "never" imagined making four 'Bridget Jones' movies. The 55-year-old actress first played the iconic character in 2001's 'Bridget Jones's Diary' - which was based on the 1996 novel of the same name by Helen Fielding - but Renee never expected that she would still be in the role 24 years later.Asked if she ever imagined herself playing the character in four films, Renee told The Hollywood Reporter: "Never. Never. No, I just didn’t want to get fired off the first thing, and I didn’t want to let anybody down, and I wanted Helen to be happy."The latest 'Bridget Jones' movie, 'Mad About the Boy', features a host of so-called Easter eggs. The fourth and, supposedly final, entry in the Bridget Jones franchise, Mad About the Boy, now streaming on Peacock, is stuffed full of Easter eggs and callbacks to past movies in the Renée Zellweger-starring rom-com series.
From the blue cocktails Bridget enjoys with her friends after yet another painful dinner with many smug married couples to her red-and-white penguin pajamas, sheer top and short skirt and a memorable sweater, the fourth film features numerous reminders of Bridget’s past.
Director Michael Morris says the Easter eggs are an intentional form of fan service.
“There are more probably than you would ever see in the first run through,” the director told The Hollywood Reporter at the Mad About the Boy New York premiere last month. “You could say Easter eggs are fan service. What’s wrong with fan service? Those are people who have been with the franchise for 25 years.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy might be the least beloved of the Bridget Jones saga, with some critiquing Renée Zellweger's performance as the titular character and others having issues with the meandering plot structure, as I found it to be less engaging than I would have hoped when watching it. However, there is one aspect of the film that no one is critiquing heavily: Hugh Grant's performance. When watching any Bridget Jones film, and particularly Mad About the Boy, it is remarkable how much we are drawn to Hugh Grant’s sleazy womanizer, Daniel.

The romantic comedy may not be the dominant, inescapable genre in modern Hollywood that it once was, but that doesn’t mean the opportunity to watch two actors humorously fall in love onscreen has lost its appeal. On the contrary, the impulse to turn on a classic rom-com and let the laughs (and sometimes tears) come doesn’t seem to have faded from the culture nearly as much as Hollywood’s increasingly homogeneous theatrical output would have you believe.
In the moments when that impulse comes, you may find yourself in the mood for a rom-com with sharper jokes and even more passionate bursts of romance than you can typically find in the genre’s many PG-13 entries. With that in mind, here are the 10 best R-rated rom-coms for when you want to watch one that’s a bit darker, lewder or — in some cases — sexier than usual.

The Bridget Jones franchise has a long history, starting all the way back in 2001. And it has won over many fans over the years. No wonder there was excitement for the fourth entrant in the franchise. But the result might have exceeded even the filmmaker’s expectations.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy hit the theatres back in February 2025. Outside the US that is. Domestically, it was directly released on Peacock (a move that the people in charge might be regretting now). In the international market, it had to deal with competition from bigwigs like Captain America: Brave New World. But it seems like it has held its own.

Bridget Jones’s Baby saw the heroine finally get her happy ending when she married Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). It seems Bridget (Renée Zellweger) finally had everything she wanted — she was no longer single, and she was a mother. Therefore, the direction of another story seemed unclear, as the central component of each story had been Bridget’s romantic endeavors. So, when author Helen Fielding set about writing Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, she knew she had to make Bridget single once again — and this was replicated in the movie. However, Mark Darcy would never leave Bridget after their happy ending, so he had to be tragically killed off. The decision allowed the fourth movie to create a much more mature tone compared to its predecessors dealing with topics such as grief.

It’s no secret that horror is not the most celebrated or praised genre due to its constant boundary-pushing. But despite not usually being the recipient of accolades or critical praise, it is the genre that most often paves the way for the A-listers we know and love. In some cases, these films are well received and become renowned classics alongside the actor’s performance, like Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween. But in other, more frequent cases, the horror genre is simply a jumping-off point ahead of bigger and better things. The quality doesn’t matter as much as getting their name out there, and that was the case with Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, which helped launch Renée Zellweger’s career. Nowadays, she’s an Oscar-winning actress known for films such as Bridget Jones’s Diary, Chicago, and Judy— among plenty of others — but in 1995 she was just starting out,...

Critics didn't look favorably at Case 39 when it came out in 2009, calling it unoriginal and not very scary. It is easy to see why it was regarded as a letdown, considering it was an American debut by an up-and-coming German director, Christian Alvart, known for his gruesome and provocative first thriller, Antibodies (2005). Even though Case 39 doesn't reach the level of Alvart's spectacular debut, it still offers a solid, somber atmosphere and a few surprisingly captivating sequences (the one with hornets is particularly memorable). However, the film's true forte was its secretly genius casting, which brought together a young horror prodigy, Jodelle Ferland, a recent Oscar winner, Renée Zellweger, who was widely famous for her rom-com roles at the time, and Bradley Cooper, who hadn't had his big break yet. It might seem like these people shouldn't mix well in a horror setting — but they do, and the way...

Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger) has always been the people’s hero, as her charming relatability has brought audiences back for decades. However, what makes the franchise so captivating is the way the audience has grown up with Bridget and see themselves reflected in her exploits. The first two movies saw her dealing with singledom in her 30s, while the third explored the societal expectation of becoming a mother for Bridget in her early 40s. The newest addition to the series, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, takes an unexpected turn, with the tragic death of Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) leaving Bridget single again. The movie chooses to split its focus between Bridget dealing with her grief and rekindling her enthusiasm for love, with one of her romantic interests being Roxster (Leo Woodall) who is significantly younger than her.

At a time when romantic comedies, or at least theatrical romantic comedies, are considered an endangered species, the Bridget Jones franchise is defying the odds. Next year, it'll celebrate its 25th anniversary, even as its latest installment — Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy — deals with the blow of having not been given a release in domestic theaters. Despite this setback, however, the fourth installment of the series is mere days away from hitting a coveted box office milestone. Directed by Michael Morris, the movie features returning star Renée Zellweger in the titular role.

It’s been a great year for theater kids in Hollywood.
Ariana Grande and Timothée Chalamet are two of the biggest names to have scored Oscar nominations this awards season, partly — or some would argue, entirely — down to their impressive vocal work in Wicked and A Complete Unknown, respectively. But what you might not know is the two shared a singing coach for their industry-acclaimed performances.
“When Ariana or Timothée walk into a room, all the molecules change,” Eric Vetro tells The Hollywood Reporter. “If you had no idea who they were, you would still know, ‘Oh, there’s something special about these people.'”
Vetro is singing coach to the stars. Only a snippet of his resume does all the talking: the New York native has worked with Angelina Jolie (Maria), Renée Zellweger and Emma Stone in their Oscar-winning outings in Judy and La La Land, Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown...

The following contains spoilers for Prime Target Season 1, Episode 7, "Prime Finder," now streaming on Apple TV+.
If there is a moral message behind Prime Target, it would be that absolute power corrupts absolutely. After Season 1, Episode 6, “The Last Link,” Edward and Taylah are in the home stretch. With our heroes back on British soil and the power dynamics between Jane Torres and Andrew Carter shifting, audiences are inching closer to the prime finder — a theoretical set of coded equations that could unlock any digital location around the world. With everything to play for and our intrepid duo no longer talking, they must fend for themselves in the penultimate episode of Apple’s most underrated thriller.
Now more than ever, privacy is essential. Our information sits on servers around the world being collected, collated, and kept for a rainy day. Season 1, Episode 7, “Primer Finder,” explores the implications of being digitally compromised.

From ‘Babygirl’ to ‘Bridget Jones,’ How Women Are Taking Control in May-December Romances
If it feels like you’ve seen a lot of movies lately where women are dating much younger men, well, it’s because you have. The latest is “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” now streaming on Peacock, where in her fourth and likely final outing, Renée Zellweger’s new love interest is played by 26-years-younger star of “The White Lotus,” Leo Woodall.
But Bridget is not alone. Last year saw the release of “The Idea of You,” in which Anne Hathaway’s character falls in love with a pop star 16 years her junior (played by Nicholas Galitzine); “A Family Affair,” where Nicole Kidman falls in love with a man also 16 years her junior; “Lonely Planet,” which sees Laura Dern fall for Liam Hemsworth, who is 23 years younger than her; and “Babygirl,” wherein Kidman once again plays a character who falls for a man 24 years younger than her. And of course the 2023 Todd Haynes film,...

Having debuted nearly a quarter-century ago, Bridget Jones has emerged as one of the most enduring film franchises of recent times. The recently released fourth installment — Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy — is continuing the character's legacy by also targeting a new generation of audiences. Starring Renée Zellweger, the movie is playing in over 70 countries across the globe, but for some reason, was released directly on the Peacock streaming service in the United States. Granted, the character is more popular in Europe than she is in the United States, but the three previous Bridget Jones films have grossed over $130 million domestically.

“Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” is nearing a sweet box office benchmark with the fourth installment in the love-struck film franchise about to surpass $75 million overseas.
“Bridget Jones 4,” starring Renée Zellweger as the titular heroine, added a solid $19.2 million over the weekend from 73 international markets for a tally of $72.9 million. Leo Woodall was four years old in 2001, when Renée Zellweger charmed global audiences as the titular hapless romantic of Bridget Jones’s Diary. The film, which earned Zellweger her first Oscar nomination, became regular viewing for the London-born actor and his family at Christmas time each year. But he never could have imagined at the time that he would one day be playing Zellweger’s love interest in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, the fourth and final installment of the franchise based on Helen Fielding’s novels.

Despite her two Oscars, Renée Zellweger has had an uneven career. For instance, it has taken her six years to deliver a follow-up to her Academy Award-winning performance in the film Judy. Other actors would've capitalized on the success, and perhaps appeared in a string of popular projects. But Zellweger chose to wait it out, and returned this past week with the fourth installment in her career-defining Bridget Jones franchise. Titled Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, the film arrives nearly a decade after the previous installment, but more curiously, was released directly on Peacock in the United States.

Bridget Jones is back where she belongs: on our screens and in our hearts.
With “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” which debuted Friday on Peacock 24 years after the original rom-com introduced us to Renée Zellweger’s Oscar-nominated performance as the lovingly bumbling heroine, one thing remains as true as ever: men can’t get enough of Bridget’s unwitting charm.
Now in “Bridget Jones 4,” Leo Woodall — previously a breakout heartthrob (and criminal) in “The White Lotus” Season 2 — lays on the dimpled charm as Roxster, Bridget’s younger, magnetic love interest, and competing suitor to Mr. Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor), teacher of Bridget’s children.
If you found yourself swooning for the 28-year-old London-born actor, we know just the project you should watch him in next. Premiering last year on Netflix, “One Day” shows Woodall in a softer light than his bad boy “White Lotus” rabble-rouser, but his sex appeal and...
