There have been a lot of rough DC Comics movies but which ones are truly the worst of the worst?

DC started early on the superhero movie trend with 1978’s Superman and later 1989’s Batman. However, despite successes like Wonder Woman and Aquaman, the Dceu faltered compared to the MCU. Somehow, Warner Bros and DC couldn’t make it all work right and it all came to a lame ending.

There have been some pretty poor to outright bad movies based on DC Comics such as Batman v Superman or The Flash. However, there are several films that stand out for how truly awful they are and leave us thinking they shouldn't have happened. They waste great casts and story potential while also being just flat-out terrible movies.

Here are how the ten worst DC Comics movies rank and marvel (no pun intended) on how badly they botched these characters.

Cary Elwes has joined the cast of new Peacock thriller series M.I.A. Elwes will be appearing in the upcoming show alongside stars from Narcos and Fear the Walking Dead as series regulars.

According to Deadline, Ozark co-creator Bill Dubuque's series has added Maurice Compte (Narcos and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and Danay Garcia (Fear of the Walking Dead and Prison Break), along with Saw star Elwes, to its expanding cast. The streamer has yet to reveal the character names of its three newest cast members.

Zack Snyder thanked the fans for making the Snyder Cut happen, four years after it was released. He's humbled to know his Justice League movie exists, acknowledging its troubled production.

Zack Snyder's Justice League celebrates its 4th anniversary this year, thanks to its dedicated fan base; Snyder took to X to thank everyone responsible for that success. "It's been 4 years," he wrote. "Still humbled by the fact that this exists at all. Big thanks to all of you that made it happen. If you have a spare 4 hours, go give it a watch on Max." The post spurred overwhelming support, with many requesting that Snyder finish the saga in the comments. His original vision for the Dceu was a five-film arc fleshed out by Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and a Justice League trilogy.

This year’s South by Southwest Film and TV Festival was a more star-studded affair than ever. Big movie stars from Nicole Kidman to Ben Affleck and Jenna Ortega descended on the city of Austin, TX to celebrate the premieres of their latest projects. Meanwhile, the festival also served as an exciting showcase of some of the most promising up-and-coming talents in the indie film scene.

From blockbusters to indie gems, this writer saw a total of 51 movies at this year’s SXSW Film and TV Festival. Although narrowing it down to our top ten was challenging, we have decided which films we think you don’t want to miss — whether they come out a few weeks from now or are still looking for a distribution deal.

And if you keep reading after our top 10, you’ll catch some of our additional thoughts on other films that we saw at this year’s festival.

Gal Gadot rose to prominence with her debut in Fast & Furious (2009) with her relatively small role in the fourth film of the franchise. Her recurring role in the subsequent Fast films made her a familiar face but it wasn’t until Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) that she attained fame and popularity unparalleled on a global scale.

However, Snyder’s DC Extended Universe has always been mired in controversy and it reflected poorly on all the actors involved with the trilogy. The grimdark vision of the DC filmmaker was further brought under scrutiny when WarnerMedia brought in Joss Whedon to finish Snyder’s rough cut of the film after the latter’s exit in 2017.

Therein originated one of the biggest scandals in Hollywood history.

More than a year after Warner Bros. shelved “Coyote vs. Acme” for tax incentives, the Looney Tunes-inspired film is close to finding a new home.

Ketchup Entertainment is expected to land distribution rights for “Coyote vs. Acme.” Thought the sale has not closed, the price tag is reportedly in the $50 million range, according to Deadline, which broke the news.

Ketchup Entertainment, an independent distributor, recently spearheaded the theatrical release of “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” after Warner Bros. Discovery decided to shop that film as well. “The Day the Earth Blew Up” opened in theaters on March 14 and has grossed $3.9 million at the domestic box office to date.

Coyote vs. Acme, the film that ignited social media when Warner Bros. canceled it for a tax write-off, may see the light of day after all. Indie outfit Ketchup Entertainment is eyeing the rights to the film, which stars Will Forte and John Cena opposite an animated Wile E. Coyote.

Ketchup and Warners have been discussing a roughly $50 million deal for some time that would put the project in theaters in 2026, though it’s still unclear if it will close. Warner Bros. declined to comment.

Ketchup has a history putting Looney Tunes movies in theaters. It distributed The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie after Warner Bros. Discovery opted to shop the film rather than release it itself. Released wide last weekend, it has earned $5.5 million globally.

Ketchup has also backed projects such as Hellboy: The Crooked Man, Ben Affleck starrer Hypnotic and Michael Mann’s Ferrari.

Exclusive: Warner Bros’ shelved movie Coyote vs. Acme finally might have found a new home with the studio deep in sale negotiations, we can reveal.

Gareth West’s distributor-financier Ketchup Entertainment is negotiating an all-rights acquisition in the $50 million range for the animated/live-action hybrid project. Ketchup last year rescued the same studio’s The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.

The pact isn’t finalized and there’s still a chance it doesn’t make, but it’s heading in the right direction. Should it get over the line, the film would get a theatrical release in 2026.

The deal would mark a significant and record outlay for Ketchup, whose previous releases have included Michael Keaton starrer Goodrich, comic book reboot Hellboy: The Crooked Man, Ben Affleck thriller Hypnotic, and Michel Franco’s Jessica Chastain drama Memory.

For a film that you would be hard-pressed to find on a list of Dwayne Johnson’s best movies, Snitch is one of those movies that just keeps coming back time and time again on free streaming platforms. Lionsgate has debuted the first official trailer for Joe Carnahan's Shadow Force, an upcoming actioner starring Primetime Emmy-winner Kerry Washington and Omar Sy in the lead roles as a pair of former special forces operatives that are being hunted by their former agency.

On March 18, 2021, Zack Snyder's Justice League premiered on HBO Max. While it did little to sway the filmmaker's detractors, most DC fans seemed to agree that it was a huge improvement over Joss Whedon's 2017 theatrical cut. 

Warner Bros. allowed Snyder to add new scenes to the movie, many of which set the stage for his unmade sequels. Then, there were the teases already in there from back when he was essentially in charge of the DC Extended Universe. 

Four years later and over two years after DC Studios was formed to reboot the Dceu as the Dcu, it's pretty obvious Snyder's Justice League sequels won't happen. It's hard to say why we've never got an animated or comic book follow-up, but in this feature, we're taking a closer look at the biggest unresolved plot threads and what, if anything, has been revealed about the filmmaker's intentions for them.

I was lucky to attend SXSW in Austin, Texas this year. It marked my first time attending what’s quickly leapfrogged up the list of important festivals. It used to be that Cannes, TIFF, and Sundance were the major ones, but it can’t be denied that as the indie film scene has changed, the kinds of movies connecting with audiences just aren’t what they used to be. SXSW strikes an interesting balance between indie films and mainstream studio fare, albeit of a somewhat more elevated pedigree. It’s led to some high-profile premieres for the festival recently, including Air, Everything Everywhere All At Once and more.

This year, we got the premiere of the long-awaited The Accountant 2 (winner of the SXSW audience award), the latest Blumhouse thriller, Drop, plus the anticipated sequel, Another Simple Favor. So what were the best movies we saw? Here’s our list!

The new Batman State Farm commercial really caught people off guard. The ad, titled “Batman vs. Bateman,” featured Jason Bateman as a second-rate vigilante named Bateman, while the real Batman operates in the background. It’s amazing how the commercial managed to deliver such comic-accurate versions of Batman and his rogues’ gallery, more than some actual movies have.

However, the highlight goes to the actor who played Batman, a stunt performer with experience in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans can not stop praising the comic-accurate portrayal of Gotham City’s most infamous character.

The 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival has unveiled its coveted Audience Award winners.

After IndieWire announced the festival’s Jury Awards, with Amy Wang’s “Slanted” taking the top Narrative Feature Award, the Audience Awards have been totaled. “The Accountant 2” starring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal has won the Headliner section, with “Fantasy Life” getting the Narrative Feature Competition vote. (Amanda Peet also previously won the Special Jury Award for her performance in “Fantasy Life.”)

Jay Duplass’ “The Baltimorons” received the Audience Award for the Narrative Spotlight section. Documentaries “Remaining Native” and “Luv Ya, Bum!” were also recognized in the Documentary Feature Competition and Documentary Spotlight categories, respectively. Rodney Ascher’s “Ghost Boy” was also a winners in the Visions category.

The news of the honors across the Austin fest’s competition, narrative, documentary, shorts, TV and Xr Experience sidebars comes after the 2025 edition revealed its juried awards last week, with honors going to Amy Wang‘s thriller Slanted for Best Narrative Feature among others.

Fantasy Life, Shear’s feature writing and directorial debut, won the marquee Narrative Feature Audience Award. It stars Shear as a man who suffers a panic attack and stumbles into a job babysitting his psychiatrist’s three granddaughters, where he begins to fall for the girls’ mother, played by Amanda Peet. Peet earlier won a special jury prize for acting.

Reports of the demise of South by Southwest’s music element seem to have been exaggerated, with SXSW organizers clarifying that while next year’s event will be shorter, its music presence will not be diminished.

A spokesperson for SXSW confirmed that the festival is reconfiguring as the Austin Convention Center is set to shut down for renovation. As such, SXSW 2026 will be two days shorter, cutting into what has traditionally been the festival’s music-focused second weekend. (Since 1987, a music conference with four days of programming has taken place on Wednesday through Saturday.) But next year’s event will feature an additional night of music, melding into SXSW’s film and television programming.

“We are really excited about the plans for SXSW 2026” a SXSW spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter. “With the Austin Convention Center closing down for three years, we believe it’s a great opportunity to put new ideas into action.

Ben Affleck’s gripping crime thriller The Town is heading to streaming, giving audiences a chance to revisit one of the best gangster films of the 2000s.

Starting April 1, 2025, Tubi subscribers can watch The Town, a tense and action-packed heist film that cemented Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's Affleck as both a skilled director and leading man. The story follows Doug MacRay (Affleck), a career criminal and mastermind behind a notorious gang of bank robbers in Boston’s Charlestown neighborhood. The 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival kicked off Friday, March 7 in Austin with world and North American premieres of movies in 11 sections, TV shows in three sections and several short film and virtual reality programs.

This year’s festival launched with opening-night film Another Simple Favor reteaming Paul Feig, Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, with other notable world premiere titles including Chad Hartigan’s The Threesome, Kate Mara‘s two entries The Astronaut and The Dutchman (the latter also starring André Holland), the Ben Affleck-Jon Bernthal sequel The Accountant 2, the Nicole Kidman-starring Holland and Death of a Unicorn starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega.

In the nine years since the first film’s release, no one has exactly been clamoring for The Accountant 2, but this sequel is charming enough to win over audiences looking for an entertaining B-action picture with an A-list scale.
