If you saw Alan Alda's 1981 version of The Four Seasons, you know the film was a charming, if not overly biting, drama-comedy about three couples who go on vacations each season. The happy dynamic is broken once one of the couples splits up. One of the persons in that couple ends up bringing a much younger person along on following trips.
If you were a fan of the film, you should be excited to know that Tina Fey created an adaptation in a series format and bringing that to Netflix. The series with feature eight 30-minute long episodes. That implies Fey's adaptation will be much more of a pure comedy than a melodrama. Good.
In fact, the new trailer for the series dropped by Netflix on Thursday implies the series won't only be funny, but a little goofy, too. Great. That is honestly only likely to make the premise funnier.

I don’t know if you’ve ever vacationed with friends, but it can be challenging. Typically, everyone has a different idea of where they’d like to go, and personality clashes can turn a fantasy destination into Hell on Earth. Then again, some groups make it work, creating lasting memories, chuckle-worthy callbacks, and an experience worth all the careful planning involved. Today, Netflix is proud to present its trailer for The Four Seasons, a cozy, new comedy series about three couples making the best of awkward situations when their group vacation takes unexpected turns.
Here’s the official synopsis for The Four Seasons courtesy of Netflix:
“Six old friends head for a relaxing weekend away only to learn that one couple in the group is about to split up. The three couples, Kate (Tina Fey) and Jack (Will Forte), Nick (Steve Carell) and Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver), and Danny (Colman Domingo...

Tina Fey is bringing an iconic ’80s comedy to a modern generation…with a twist.
“SNL” alum Fey co-creates, co-showruns, writes, executive produces, and stars in the upcoming series “The Four Seasons,” which is based on the 1981 feature film of the same name. “The Four Seasons” reunites Fey with her “30 Rock” collaborators Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield, who also co-create, co-showrun, write, and EP the show (Fisher additionally directs).
Fey is joined by former “SNL” cast-mate Will Forte and “Date Night” co-star Steve Carell for the series, which is a reunion within a reunion (within a reunion) for the cast. Fey and Forte play a couple who have to sniff out which of their other married pals are on the brink of divorce across four vacations.
The official synopsis reads: “Six old friends head for a relaxing weekend away only to learn that one couple in the group is about to split up.

Netflix’s star-studded series The Four Seasons is set to join the already crowded spring TV calendar.
The series, starring and co-created by Tina Fey, is set to premiere May 1. The show is an adaptation of the 1981 movie written, directed by and starring Alan Alda (who’s a producer and guest star of the new version) and centers on three couples — played by Fey and Will Forte, Steve Carell and Kerry Kinney-Silver, and Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani — who vacation together and are thrown when one of the couples announces they’re divorcing.
Along with announcing the premiere date, Netflix released a teaser for the show; watch it below.
Netflix won a bidding war for the series (which was a hot commodity coming out of 2023’s labor strikes) and gave the show a straight-to-series order in early 2024. Universal Television, where Fey and her Little Stranger company are based, produces The Four Seasons.

It's one of the biggest debates in TV right now: What’s a comedy?
While the argument rages on, there were plenty of laughs when a trio of comedy showrunners — St. Denis Medical’s Eric Ledgin, Laid’s Nahnatchka Khan, and The Four Seasons’ Lang Fisher — took the stage at SXSW’s Film and TV Music Festival for a panel titled “Funny Af Comedy Showrunners,” moderated by Gold Derby’s editor-in-chief.
“If the show is making you laugh, I guess it’s a comedy,” says Ledgin. “I don’t know that the categorization matters to me. I thought Succession was one of the funniest shows on television.”
Khan agrees that dramas can offer plenty of laughs. “Sopranos was very funny, too,” she says. “The best comedy has a lot of drama. But I do appreciate actual jokes.”
Agrees Fisher, “I wish there were more super funny, really silly shows,” she says.

The 97th Academy Awards were held on Sunday night, i.e., the Super Bowl for movie fans. That comparison might sting a little for ABC, which probably wishes it could achieve Super Bowl ratings numbers for the Oscars, especially following Hulu's glitchy livestream, which likely contributed to a decrease in viewers for the first time in four years.
According to Variety, the 2025 Oscars attracted 18.1 million viewers to watchAnora claim Best Picture of the year, down 7% from the 19.5 million people who tuned in for the 2024 ceremony. Given that ratings for the awards ceremony have seen much lower lows, this is a respectable number, but it may be a sign that some of the films, beyond box-office behemoth Wicked, weren't sampled by casual moviegoers and mostly appealed to more dedicated cinephiles.

Will Conan O'Brien host the Academy Awards again? The question has been on everyone's lips since his performance during last night's ceremony. Thankfully, Walt Disney TV's Rob Mills, the executive VP of unscripted and alternative entertainment in charge of these things, has some thoughts on the matter, too. And in a new interview with Variety, the executive lays out his thoughts on that, some of the night's biggest jokes, and more.
Though hardly confirmation of anything that may or may not happen in the future, Mills put the ball directly in O'Brien's court when it comes to hosting the award show again, confirming to the outlet that ABC's parent company was deeply satisfied with the job the comedian did. Considering how thankless it can be to host an awards show (just ask all the other folks who have hosted award shows), it's a huge compliment to O'Brien's ability to appeal...

Chris Rock is playing coy about hosting the Academy Awards again. The former host — who was involved in one of the most memorable moments in Oscars history when he was slapped by Will Smith onstage — remained vague when asked whether or not he would tackle the role taken on by Conan O'Brien in this year's ceremony.
Considering all that he had to endure not only during the 2022 Oscars, but the fallout after the fact, it's not surprising that the Fargo star was hesitant to commit to returning. But given that Rock was all about "forgiveness" when E! News asked him about it at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, we could absolutely see a world where he comes back and hosts the show again. But if you want to know exactly what he had to say about the matter, keep reading below!

The Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul bout on Netflix couldn’t live up to expectations and was deemed a complete disaster. YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul defeated boxing legend Tyson by unanimous decision from the judges, who scored the fight for Paul 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73. Months after the disappointing match, Paul has now landed himself in another controversy.

Date Night is one of the few action romantic comedies of the 2010s that stands the test of time and remains just as thrilling and hilarious for viewers discovering it in 2025. The film stars Steve Carell and Tina Fey as Phil and Claire Foster, a suburban married couple with two young children who plan an extraordinary date night in the city. Of course, everything goes wrong from the moment they leave the house. At dinner, they get caught up in a dangerous misunderstanding and spend their date trying to survive the craziest night of their lives.

One of my all-time favorite movies is Date Night, and a huge part of why it was so funny is because Tina Fey and Steve Carell starred as married couple Claire and Phil Foster. Well, we get to see them reunite onscreen once again in a new project, Netflix series The Four Seasons!
This time around the two don't play a couple, but they are a part of the same tight-knit friend group. The series doesn't have a release date yet, though it is confirmed for a 2025 release on Netflix. There will be a total of 8 episodes. Plus, the streamer revealed some first-look images of Fey and Carell, as well as the rest of the star-studded cast!
As you can see in the photo above, The Four Seasons stars Will Forte, Colman Domingo, and Marco Calvani. There's also Superstore actress Kerri Kenney and Girls5eva's Erika Henningsen who are part of the cast.

The 58th annual Academy Awards–presented by ABC on March 24, 1986 and celebrating the (alleged) best films of the movie year 1985–were watched by approximately 37.8 million television viewers. The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, where the ceremony was hosted by the odd-throuple pairing of Alan Alda, Jane Fonda and Robin Williams. The evening’s big winner? Out of Africa, now regarded as one of the most turgid Best Picture winners of all time.

Here, amid a constellation of potted ficus trees and gold lamé drapes, unfurled the very first edition of the Film Independent Spirit Awards, hosted with casual luncheon hunkiness by Jagged Edge actor Peter Coyote.

You are going to be hearing major announcements this morning. Courtesy of this past Wednesday’s “You’re Not Ready For What’s Next” Netflix 2025 presentation. I was there for JoBlo. It was nearly impossible, yet they did it. It was all the new movies, features, sports, reality, and everything under the sun to be explored in one hour. The lineup included series returns of popular shows like Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, You, Squid Game, and Wednesday. The relationship between Netflix and Guillermo del Toro continues to grow as well. His latest is a little horrific beauty with the upcoming Frankenstein. So yeah, it will take more than one article to unpack all of it today.
The presentation started with Bela Bejaria, the Chief Content Officer at Netflix. While the talk on stage began with a somber reminder of the recent California wildfires, it quickly kicked into sports mode with...

What does it take to coax Ben Affleck to the deteriorating heart of Hollywood Blvd. at 9 a.m. on a Wednesday to deliver the two-minute elevator pitch for his latest movie to a room full of journalists? Just Netflix, apparently.
The ruling streamer held its 2025 programming preview, Next on Netflix, with an Egyptian Theatre event that could only be described as a living sizzle reel. In addition to Affleck, Tina Fey, John Mulaney, The Duffer Brothers, WWE wrestlers and a pre-taped Guillermo del Toro all showed up alongside chief content officer Bela Bajaria as she ran through a dizzying slate of upcoming series and films.
There were updates about the final seasons of Stranger Things (coming soon!) and Squid Game (coming sooner!) and first looks of both, as well as trailer debuts for Del Toro’s Frankenstein and Affleck crime thriller Rip, between Bajaria’s compelling pitch. Though, at times,...

The Academy Awards committee recently announced their 2025 nominations for the Best Actor category. And boy oh boy, is it going to be cut-throat with the likes of Ralph Fiennes and Timothée Chalamet competing against each other. But talk of fierce competition and we’re often reminded of the 77th Academy Awards, where Jamie Foxx was pitted against veterans like Leonardo DiCaprio, Clint Eastwood, and Johnny Depp.

Alan Alda is the multi-Emmy winner and Oscar nominee who has received the SAG Life Achievement award on in 2019. Though primarily known for television, let’s take a look back at 15 of Alda’s greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1936, Alda first came to the attention of movie audiences with his leading performance in “Paper Lion” (1968), which cast him as a sportswriter posing as a quarterback for the Detroit Lions. The role brought him a Golden Globe nomination as Best Newcomer (Male).
It was just four years later that he landed the role of his career: Hawkeye Pierce on “M*A*S*H.” Based on Robert Altman‘s iconic film, the series centered on the staff at an Army hospital during the Korean War. Alda received a staggering 25 Emmy nominations for the show, winning five trophies. He won an additional Emmy for his supporting role as a senator on “The West Wing...

Jules Feiffer, the provocative satirist, cartoonist, playwright and 1960s counterculturist who wrote the screenplays for Mike Nichols’ classic Carnal Knowledge and Robert Altman’s Popeye, has died. He was 95.
A Pulitzer Prize winner, Feiffer died Jan. 17 at his home in Upstate New York of congestive heart failure, his wife, Jz Holden, told The Washington Post.
The Bronx native joined such luminaries as Samuel Beckett, Sam Shepard, John Lennon and Robert Benton in contributing material to the bawdy 1969 Broadway musical revue Oh! Calcutta!, and he earned a Tony nomination for best play in 1976 for Knock, Knock. Starring Judd Hirsch, it was “a wild spree of jokes, pratfalls, word games, collapsing scenery, falling bodies and burlesque sight gags,” according to The New York Times.

Mash ran for over a decade and the showrunners were often so hungry for good ideas they didn't even realize they made the exact same story twice. Mash ran for 11 seasons and was still one of the biggest shows on television when it ended. In fact, it was a cast vote that ended Mash and CBS. The actors felt the series was running out of steam and they needed to wrap it up before things became stale.
Of course, that doesn't mean they didn't repeat - whether accidentally or on purpose - similar storylines. For example, the controversial Mash episode where Bj cheats on his wife in season 5 was recycled again for season 8's "War Co-Respondent" - but in the latter case, he at least resists temptation. One of season 7's most interesting episodes is "Preventative Medicine," where Bj and Hawkeye clash with a commander with a high casualty rate,...

Mash's Wayne Rogers exited the show early and went on to front his own medical comedy - a hit show that was quickly ruined by a disastrous firing. Wayne Rogers left Mash after season three, largely due to his role being gradually reduced. When the star signed on, the sitcom was intended as a two-hander focused on Rogers' Trapper John and Alan Alda's Hawkeye. When it became clear Alda was the breakout star, the writers focused their attention on him, while Trapper increasingly became the sidekick.
Following the shock death of Henry Blake in Mash's season 3 finale, Rogers decided to leave before the fourth series. Compared to many of the actors who exited Mash during its run, Rogers did quite well in the years that followed, including fronting the detective series City of Angels and appearing in gender-flipped It's a Wonderful Life remake It Happened One Christmas in...

Henry Blake's departure from Mash came in the season 3 finale with his tragic death summarizing the show's core message about war. Played by McLean Stevenson, Blake was 4077's commanding officer during the groundbreaking dramedy's early years. While not as respected or capable as Col. Sherman Potter, Blake was a fair and good-hearted doctor who was liked by his subordinates despite his inadequacies. The news of his death was delivered by a stunned Radar O'Reilly to a busy operating room, making for one of the most iconic TV deaths.
McLean Stevenson won a Golden Globe in 1974 for his performance as Henry Blake on Mash.
Given the nature of Mash, injuries, deaths, and other tragedies were the norm. The medical show leaned on it frequently, with its best moments not shying away from these difficult topics. Balancing silly humor with the horrors of war is what made Mash one of the most popular shows ever.

Mash had many shocking moments, but the death of a major character not only transformed the show, but also impacted television itself in the decades that followed. Mash ran for 11 seasons, and during that time, evolved from a wild sitcom to a full-on dramedy. The show was groundbreaking on many fronts, such as dropping the laugh track during surgery scenes to actually exploring the trauma the main characters were experiencing. The shock death of Henry Blake in Mash season 3 proved especially controversial.
It may have lost its impact thanks to series like Game of Thrones or Walking Dead killing off main characters like and right, but prior to Blake, it was unheard of for a major supporting player to die. While McLean Stevenson came to regret leaving Mash so soon, Blake's demise was a groundbreaking moment in many ways. It even stands out among divisive entries like "Dreams" - a...

The co-creator of Mash's failed sequel AfterMASH once hilariously summarized why it bombed so completely. Despite Mash having run for 11 seasons, it was still a ratings hit for CBS when it ended. This led the network to greenlight some ill-advised Mash spinoffs, with AfterMASH being the first. This saw returning characters like Potter (Harry Morgan), Klinger (Jamie Farr), and Father Mulcahy (William Christopher) working together in a Veteran's hospital after the war ended; the resulting series was a total disaster, as was the second failed spinoff, W*A*L*T*E*R.
It's easy to forget that goodwill from Mash's groundbreaking finale saw the sequel show earn solid ratings for its first season. Still, AfterMASH's ratings tanked so badly that its final episode wasn't even aired, and it's now considered one of the worst TV series ideas ever. Glengarry Glen Ross will take over Palace Theatre this spring.
The revival of the David Mamet play, starring Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr, will start previews at the theater March 10, ahead of a March 31 opening. The production is scheduled to play a strict 12-week limited run.
The play takes over the Palace Theatre after the abrupt closure of the Tammy Faye musical on Dec. 8. Tammy Faye had been the first Broadway production to play the theater after it underwent a multiyear renovation and was raised 30-feet in the air and was meant to usher in its grand reopening. The theater boasts a seating capacity of 1,306 and has typically been used for musicals, which are seen as drawing larger crowds, rather than plays.
The production will be directed by Patrick Marber, who won a 2023 Tony Award for his direction of Leopoldstadt. Odenkirk and Burr will make their Broadway debuts in the play.

The long-running classic sitcom "M*A*S*H" went through quite a few changes throughout its 11 seasons, both in front of the camera and behind it. Even series creator Larry Gelbart left after the fourth season because the show had become all-consuming in his life due to its immense popularity. In fact, there were so many cast change-ups over the years that there is only one episode (albeit a two-parter) that features every single starring cast member. And all in all, only one character, head surgeon Captain Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce (Alan Alda), appears in every episode. It makes sense that faces would change in a wartime situation, especially when the real-life Korean War lasted for only three years and "M*A*S*H" went on for eleven.
Over the years, the show lost not only Gelbart but stars Wayne Rogers, McLean Stevenson, Larry Linville, and Gary Burghoff, who played Hawkeye's best friend "Trapper" John McIntyre,...

A dark season four episode of Mash teased the impending exit of a major character, and could also explain why Trapper never tried to contact Hawkeye again. Mash ran for 11 seasons and season four was one of the most impactful. It arrived in the aftermath of Henry Blake's shock death in Mash season 3, while "Trapper" John actor Wayne Rogers also left between seasons. Thus, season four introduced major new characters like B.J. (Mike Farrell) and Colonel Potter (Harry Morgan), and was the first to lean on the show's emerging dramedy tone.
One of the earliest episodes, "The Late Captain Pierce", saw Alan Alda's Hawkeye being declared dead due to a clerical error, and learning his father back in America is mourning his demise. Mash's "The Late Captain Pierce" is a blackly comic outing, with B.J. and the 4077th even throwing Hawkeye a wake so they have an excuse to party.

Larry Gelbart hit it big as the showrunner of the TV show M.A.S.H. For four seasons, the writer and creator speared ahead with the dramedy before leaving it for good in 1976. M.A.S.H. has been referenced multiple times in various media and has often been cited as an inspiration for many sitcoms and comedies since its airing.
While he went on to work on several acclaimed films and stage musicals after departing from the show, he reportedly felt like he had made a good decision despite the series being at its peak. Walking away from an established gig is not always advised but the writer’s stint on the series reportedly affected him so much that there was no other option.

The series finale of M*A*S*H, "Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen," stands as one of the greatest series finales of all time, and to this day reigns as the highest Nielsen rated TV episodes ever. Given the love shown for its finale, it may be surprising to you to know that the first season of M*A*S*H came perilously close to being its last, a similarity it shares with shows like The Office and Parks and Recreation. And like those shows, M*A*S*H took the lessons learned from its first season to right the ship for a second season and beyond. One of the biggest lessons learned was to steer away from episodes like "Major Fred C. Dobbs," a low point and a personal least favorite for Alan Alda, aka "Hawkeye" Pierce.

When the producers of Mash found out about CBS' spinoff Trapper John, MD, they decided to play a mean practical joke on the network. Following the shock death of Henry Blake in Mash's season 3 finale, the show was dealt a blow when Wayne Rogers decided to leave immediately afterward. When the series began, the "Trapper" actor had been assured his character would be the co-lead, but after Trapper's role gradually diminished, Rogers decided to exit. That's why Trapper left without saying goodbye to supposed best pal Hawkeye (Alan Alda) when season 4 began.
Rogers was later offered the chance to front CBS' spinoff Trapper John, MD. The actor passed - not wanting to be typecast in doctor roles - and veteran actor Pernell Roberts (Bonanza) took on the role instead. What sets this Mash spinoff apar is that it's a straight drama instead of a comedy. Bizarrely, the series never...

Britt Robertson has been warmly welcomed back to the rom-com genre, as her portrayal of Ashley in Netflixs new movie The Merry Gentlemen has sweetened up the end of the year. While she is no stranger to romance, this time around, she had to put on a thick jacket to tackle the cold of the Christmas season, even though Gilmore Girls Chad Michael Murray brought quite some heat to the stage with his Magic-Mike-inspired dance moves.
While Robertson might now be the next Christmas staple, her Rotten Tomatoes flop from a decade ago didnt do any good for her filmography. The romantic drama movie The Longest Ride, which was released in 2015 and is based on the novel of the same name written by Nicholas Sparks, stars Britt Robertson alongside Scott Eastwood.

Larger-than-life John Candy paired with innovative liberl documentarian Michael Moore might not be what audiences expected. But in 1995, Candy starred in Moore's one and only fictional film, Canadian Bacon: a satirical look at national identity, American-Canadian relations, and the sheer ludicrousness of war. It's reminiscent of 1980's Airplane silly, daft, yet sharp as a tack.
Where Moore is typically renowned for culturally significant documentaries using journalistic techniques, such as Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine, Canadian Bacon is a scripted narrative with characters. The film features comedic heavyweights Rhea Perlman, Rip Torn, Dan Aykroyd, Alan Alda, Wallace Shawn, and Jim Belushi, among others, with Candy leading the way. Sadly, Canadian Bacon was to be the last film Candy ever completed; he passed away while making Wagons East in 1994.

So, with that sentiment and because of my love for any media about the complex nature of politics we compiled a list of the best political TV shows that you should watch right now.
