Four years after bringing the world the high speed comedy classic Smokey and the Bandit (and three years after their stuntman comedy Hooper and one year after Smokey and the Bandit II), director Hal Needham and star Burt Reynolds teamed up again for another high speed comedy, the goofball ensemble film The Cannonball Run. The film was a big hit, the sixth highest-grossing domestic film of 1981, and it was followed by a pair of less successful sequels, Cannonball Run II (1983) and Speed Zone (1989). Even though the follow-ups aren’t highly regarded, The Cannonball Run is still a well-known title, which is why we’ve been hearing rumblings of a remake for years. Now, industry scooper Jeff Sneider of The InSneider reports that Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is likely to be the one to finally bring The Cannonball Run back to the screen, as his production company, Bosque Ranch, is developing...

Picture the scene: You've been dating this great person for a while and it's time to find out whether they're a keeper. One night over cheeseburgers and vanilla Cokes you decide to pop the question: "Hey, do you like 'Rio Bravo?'" By his own admission, that was a criteria for a successful relationship in director Quentin Tarantino's younger years and he has called Howard Hawks' classic western of the greatest hang-out movies of all time. Depending on your point of view, spending two hours hanging out with John Wayne might not sound like the most appealing prospect, but there is little denying he was a screen icon despite his personal flaws. In "Rio Bravo," we find the Duke at his most engaging and charismatic, and the movie was so successful that it launched an unofficial trilogy.

Since getting his big break crafting jokes for Bette Midler in the early 1970s, Emmy-winning comedy writer and personality Bruce Vilanch has found success writing for the small screen and stage. But by his own admission, the scribe behind 25 Academy Award ceremonies and more than his fair share of Miss Universe and USA pageants has also penned some real flops.
In his new book, “It Seemed Like a Bad Idea at the Time: The Worst TV Shows in History and Other Things I Wrote,” Vilanch walks readers through some of the most ill-conceived projects he’s been attached to over the years — from 1978’s “The Star Wars Holiday Special” to the now infamous 1989 Oscars ceremony that opened with Rob Lowe and Snow White pirouetting to “Proud Mary.”

When John Wayne starred in a movie, he expected all involved to operate at a high level of professionalism — even though he was known for drinking on set, which forced some of his directors to work around his escalating state of inebriation as the day wore on. But Wayne delivered when it counted, and, because he was considered the most bankable star in Hollywood during his prime, no one fought him too hard on the booze.

Jerry Lewis was the comedic legend who starred in dozens of films, remaining active until his death at 91 in 2017. But how many of those titles, many of which he also wrote and directed, remain classics? Let's take a look back at 15 of his greatest movies, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1926, Lewis initially gained attention as one half of the team Martin and Lewis, opposite future Rat Packer Dean Martin. The combination of Martin as the lady-killing straight man and Lewis as the spastic goofball started as a night club act and a radio program. They appeared in 17 films together before their breakup in 1956.
He went on to star in, direct, and write a series of slapstick comedies laced with hints of sentimentality. In titles such as "The Bellboy" (1960), "The Ladies Man" (1961), "The Nutty Professor" (1963), and "The Patsy" (1964), Lewis played a lovable, rubber-faced dork who won our hearts while grating on our nerves.

Warner Bros.’ latest high-budget release, Mickey 17, has arrived in theaters, marking the return of Oscar-winning filmmaker Bong Joon-ho. Starring Robert Pattinson in a multi-faceted role, the sci-fi film has received a positive critical reception. However, its financial prospects remain uncertain, with early projections suggesting a slow start compared to its $118 million budget.
Bong Joon-ho’s Hollywood Return
Five years after Parasite became the first non-English language film to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards, Bong has returned with a film adapted from Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel Mickey 7. The story follows an expendable worker who is repeatedly regenerated to assist in colonizing an inhospitable planet. Complications arise when one version of the character refuses to disappear after being replaced.
Pattinson leads a cast that includes Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. Ruffalo’s portrayal of a wealthy antagonist has drawn attention for its resemblance to public figures,...

Five years after making history with his Oscar triumph for “Parasite,” Bong Joon-ho has returned to Hollywood filmmaking with Warner Bros.’ “Mickey 17,” a star-studded sci-fi satire about how capitalism can create demagogues and cheapen human life.
But despite strong reviews, it faces an uphill battle to turn a profit against its reported $118 million budget. While not an original film — it is an adaptation of the 2022 Edward Ashton novel “Mickey 7” — it’s a film trying to win over adult audiences with a marketing campaign based around its darkly humorous concept and a go-for-broke lead performance by Robert Pattinson.
While not as acclaimed as “Parasite,” reviews for “Mickey 17” have been very positive, currently standing at 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film has also earned a $9 million 4-day opening weekend in Bong’s home country of South Korea, the best for a Warner release in six years.

One of the most entertaining arcs of The Sopranos is definitely the sub-plot about New York's Lupertazzi Crime Family in season five. Many fans will often refer to the final season when discussing their favorite mafia-related conflict, in which New York and New Jersey went to war with each other. However, season five's inner conflict of the Lupertazzi Family is right up there with some of the best drama of the series. Tony and his family get caught in the middle of the only other true mob war that is depicted throughout the course of the series. During this season five arc, the sudden passing of Carmine Lupertazzi has sparked a power grab for control of the crime family. The two factions that go to war over who is going to be the next boss, break up the Lupertazzi family into supporters of either John Sacrimoni or Carmine Lupertazzi Jr.

James Marsden is looking to make his biopic debut — and has his sights set on Mickey Blue Eyes.
“Paradise” actor Marsden told The Post that he aspires to portray Frank Sinatra onscreen in a feature similar to Oscar-winning 2004 Ray Charles biopic “Ray.”
“To do a biopic like what Jamie Foxx did with Ray Charles would be a lot of fun,” Marsden said. “I would love to. And you’re actually using your singing voice, as well.”
Marsden previously sang in 2007 films “Enchanted” and “Hairspray,” the latter of which Marsden deemed to be like a “Broadway show” to film. He added that “Hairspray” was a “joyous” production akin to attending a “party.” Perhaps a Sinatra biopic could be the same.

James Marsden wants to play Frank Sinatra in a biopic.
“I’ve always loved emulating some of the old crooners, like Bobby Darin and Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin,” Marsden told the New York Post this week. “I always thought there were so many interesting stories of Frank Sinatra’s life that could be played. And for whatever reason, you’ve never really seen a movie about him.”
To be fair, Ray Liotta played Sinatra in 1998’s made-for-television movie The Rat Pack, James Russo played him in Stealing Sinatra, also made for TV (released in 2003, the movie covers the 1963 kidnapping of the singer’s famous son), Dennis Hopper played him in 2003’s The Night We Call It a Day, about Sinatra’s 1963 Australia tour, and Robert Knepper played him in 2012’s My Way, about the life of French singer Claude François.

Bill Hader's Saturday Night Live career generated some of the most memorable sketches in the show's 50-year history. For Hader, the one that sticks out the most is also one that earned high praise from Lorne Michaels.
Hader earned the right to be in any discussion about Saturday Night Live's best performers. He hasn't been shy about sharing how challenging it was to get in front of a live audience every week with millions more people watching at home. But when Hader could put that anxiety to the side, he knew he was on top of his game.

James Marsden would jump at the chance to play Ol' Blue Eyes himself, the legendary Frank Sinatra. In a recent interview, the Paradise and X-Men actor spoke about how he "would love to play" Sinatra in a biopic. However, there are no active movies in development about the famous crooner.
Marsden explained it would be a dream to play Sinatra, and spoke about how Jamie Foxx won an Oscar for playing Ray Charles, and would like a similar opportunity. Marsden can certainly sing, as he showcased in Hairspray (2007), which also starred Zac Effron, John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, and Queen Latifah.

Start spreading the news – James Marsden wants to play Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra. So, would Marsden have the world of a string in the role or would he get under our skin?

The post-credits scene actually dates back to the 1960s. While the James Bond movies were teasing via that 007 “would return”, it was actually Dean Martin’s Matt Helms movies that first used an actual scene. But comic books movies have turned the page on the device, using it to tease well into the future for their universes. And while Marvel continues to utilize them as they trudge through Phase Four, James Gunn may be hinting that the DC Universe will be ditching them.

The celebrity roast has a storied history in the United States. The Friars Club roasts in New York at the turn of the twentieth-century were infamous for their exclusivity. Actor, singer, and comedian Dean Martin hosted a series of roasts on TV in 1974 on his series The Dean Martin Show, which inspired NBC executives to launch The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast series, which ran until 1979. From the late 1990s until 2019, Comedy Central became synonymous with the celebrity roast comedy special. Then in 2024, Netflix launched their Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival, and announced their bid as the new home for the comedy genre with The Roast of Tom Brady.

There’s one thing that Marvel used to do better than any other studio, and that’s build hype. Ever since the series debuted with Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man” in 2008, these superhero films were filled with promising easter eggs and, in a game-changing creative masterstroke, post-credits scenes that promised future characters and crossovers and villains, which Marvel then actually delivered.
Now, Marvel has made its worst MCU post-credits scene ever with the tag for “Captain America: Brave New World.”
Marvel didn’t invent the post-credits scene — so-called because they drop after the closing credits (sometimes spiked with a mid-credits scene as well or instead) — nor did they make the first good one. The first, according to most historians, came at the end of the 1966 spy comedy “The Silencers,” starring Rat Pack crooner Dean Martin as Matt Helm. The scene depicted Helm on a bed, either pre-or-post-orgy, with a cadre of scantily clad,...

When director Quentin Tarantino started making movies, he came with an incredible knowledge of cinema and cinema history. This meant that a lot of his films would look to tell new and interesting stories in famous genres stylistically different from other films and honoring the films in the genre that came before. As a fan of crime dramas, Hong Kong cinema and Westerns, Tarantino's films embodied all the greatest aspects of these genres. His admiration for Spaghetti Westerns specifically cannot be overlooked.
In 2012, he made one of the greatest Spaghetti Westerns of all time when he made Django Unchained at a time when nobody was making films in the sub-genre. Spaghetti Westerns are not commonly made films but Tarantino makes sure his audiences know how entertaining and artful they are. Quentin Tarantino seems to enjoy watching movies rather than making them. There’s still no word about his tenth and final film, yet he has recommended over 300 movies over the years. His fans might be irked by his unwillingness to be as industrious as his peers, but he sure has good taste. That Tarantino is a film fan more than a filmmaker should come as no surprise, considering that he worked at Video Archives, a video store in Manhattan Beach, California, for five years. Additionally, he is a self-taught director, meaning he had to do plenty of research early in his career. "When people ask me if I went to film school, I tell them, 'No, I went to films," Tarantino was once quoted saying.

John Wayne achieved major stardom with the 1939 Western film Stagecoach, which marked his first collaboration, as a leading man, with director John Ford, a relationship that reached its pinnacle with the 1956 Western film The Searchers, which is widely regarded as being the greatest and most influential Western film ever made. Ford and Wayne’s historic partnership has somewhat overshadowed another important directorial collaborator in Wayne’s career, Howard Hawks, who first directed Wayne in the classic 1948 Western film Red River. Following Red River, Ford and Wayne next collaborated on the 1959 Western film Rio Bravo, which, like The Searchers, is now regarded as being one of the greatest and most influential films, of any genre, in history.
Rio Bravo features one of Wayne’s greatest screen performances as John Chance, a small-town Texan sheriff who, after arresting the brother of a powerful local rancher for murder, has to hold the man...

Frank Sinatra was the odds-on favorite to be the big winner at the inaugural Grammy Awards in 1959, but — perhaps as an early indicator that things wouldn’t always go to plan at the Grammys — ‘Ol Blue Eyes lost out on both Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
The music industry’s most recognized awards were established in 1958 by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in the United States.
The first Grammy ceremony was held on May 4, 1959, with only 28 categories, a number that since has swelled past 100 and now settled at 91. It was attended by many of music’s elite. Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Gene Autry, Johnny Mercer, Henry Mancini and André Previn gathered for a black-tie dinner and awards presentation inside the Grand Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton.

If you're only familiar with director Steven Soderbergh's take on Danny Ocean's (George Clooney) story in his "Ocean's" trilogy — which kicked off in 2001 — you might not know that the actual first movie centering around a guy named Ocean and a big Las Vegas heist actually came out in 1960. So which ones in this series are the best, and which are the worst?
I feel pretty comfortable saying that I'm going to ruffle some feathers with this ranking, and I'm fine with that. I love picking hyper-specific hills and then dying upon them; it's one of my absolute favorite hobbies. Still, with just five "Ocean's" movies to choose from — putting aside the rumored prequel with Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie as Danny's parents — it's a fairly close ranking, but there's still a definitive answer. Here are the "Ocean's" movies ranked from worst to best, and I guarantee people...

Renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg almost worked with Steve McQueen in the past, but it seemed like the opportunity was elusive and ultimately never happened. In fact, they had many chances to team up with each other and it seemed inevitable given their status in Hollywood, but unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be.

Back in Action starring Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx is just what it sounds like, with stunts and sequences only worthy of a spy duo who also happen to be married and parents to two children.
The Netflix film, which also features appearances from Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Kyle Chandler, Jamie Demetriou and more, watches Diaz and Foxx team up once more as unofficially retired Quick Reaction Non-Official Cover Operatives for the CIA. They decided to call it quits when Diaz’s Emily found herself pregnant with their daughter Alice (McKenna Roberts), but as their enemies come out of the woodwork, they realize that a mission they never actually finished has come back to haunt them.
While they fend off some intimidating heavies with various dangerous methods that kids should not try at home, some classic smooth needle drops play. The scenes get more and more outrageous from a gas...

After 10 years away from any kind of film or TV set, Cameron Diaz is officially, well, back in action with her new film “Back in Action.”
Now streaming on Netflix, the film centers on Emily and Matt, two CIA operatives who learn they’re having a baby together. Shortly thereafter, their plane home is compromised and crashes, giving them the opportunity to fake their deaths and go off the grid to raise their family as civilians.
Of course, secret past lives can’t always stay secret forever. When theirs catches up with them, the now-parents are forced onto a new mission, this time bringing their kids along.
If you’re here though, you probably know all that. You probably also know that the film has an 11-minute credit sequence, which you might not have watched, and you’re just looking for the songs in the film. Well, we’ve got you.

There’s a reason we keep coming back to the heist movie genre, again and again and again. That’s because although most movies would have you believe that committing crimes is bad, we can’t help but respect a character who does it well. Robbing a little old lady on the street is unforgivable, sure, but robbing a wealthy old lady who keeps her hoard of ill-gotten money in an impenetrable vault surrounded by lasers and mercenaries? You gotta respect the moxie of anybody who even tries. And if they succeed, well dang, good for them. It sounds like they earned every penny.
There’s no shortage of classic heist movies, but with income inequality on our minds, and billionaires actively destroying everything decent about this planet every single day, the genre seems particularly alluring in the 21st century. Maybe that’s why we’ve had so many classic...

John Wayne was quite public about his feelings towards his 1965 Western with Dean Martin titled The Sons Of Katie Elder. While not often considered among John Wayne's best movies, The Sons of Katie Elder earned a critic score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Wayne stars as John Elder, one of four brothers who reunite in their hometown of Texas for their mother's funeral. The film was shot entirely in Mexico but takes place in northeast Texas, east of Dallas.
Directed by Henry Hathaway, The Sons of Katie Elder was released in theaters in Panavision on June 24, 1965, and was distributed by Paramount Pictures. Wayne had just come off starring in Otto Preminger's In Harm's Way and George Stevens' The Greatest Storey Ever Told, which were both released in early 1965. Dean Martin, who was also a successful singer and comedian, was just coming off 1964's Kiss Me, Stupid and Robin and the 7 Hoods.

Throughout the 1970s, audiences couldn’t get enough of disaster movies. The decade began with the all-star blockbuster bomb-on-a-plane thrill ride Airport, based on Arthur Hailey’s best-seller. Burt Lancaster, Dean Martin, Maureen Stapleton, Van Heflin, Jean Seberg, and Jacqueline Bisset headlined Airport, which became the second-biggest box-office hit of the year and earned nine Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and winning Best Supporting Actress for Hayes. Airport also established the template for subsequent movies: trapping all-star casts on a plane, a ship, or a high-rise.

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the scripts fueling the year’s most talked-about movies continues with Better Man, Paramount’s musical biopic based on the true story of the meteoric rise, dramatic fall and resurgence of British pop superstar Robbie Williams. From boyband stardom with Take That to a record-shattering solo career, the film explores the highs and lows of his success. Though she is an indie pop superstar in her own right, Lykke Li says writing a song for someone else to sing was her “dream in life.” So when her longtime friend and colleague Andrew Wyatt reached out for her help on a finale song for “The Last Showgirl,” the Pamela Anderson vehicle, about a veteran Las Vegas performer having to come to terms with her revue shuttering, Li was happy to oblige.
Over breakfast at the famed Tower Bar in Los Angeles, she and Wyatt reflected on the road that led them to their Golden Globes and Critics Choice Award-nominated song for “The Last Showgirl” titled “Beautiful That Way,” written with and performed by Miley Cyrus. The pair have known each other for decades, having both worked extensively in Sweden even having co-founded an artists collective and record label called Ingrid in 2012. “We feel very lucky,” said Wyatt. “We...

Some double acts have made such an impact that they'll never be forgotten. Laurel and Hardy, Lemon and Matthau, and Key and Peele have etched their names in the history books, some of the best pairings of Hollywood's Golden Age. Then, there are those lesser-known Golden Age Hollywood actors who have created some fantastic moments together but can live in a hazy memory that gets revisited from time to time. Bing Crosby and Bob Hope were enormous stars in their own right, and are probably most remembered for their solo achievements. Crosby's White Christmas gets replayed every year around the holidays, and Hope is still considered one of the best Academy Awards hosts in history.
When they joined forces in the Road To... series of films, they created the kind of movie magic that Old Hollywood comedy movies can produce. With laughs aplenty, and the glamorous addition of Dorothy Lamour,...

It’s that special time of year when holiday music gets played 24/7, to the joy of Christmas fanatics, and the existential horror of every single person working in the customer service industry.
But while we’ll no doubt be hearing a lot of Mariah Carey, Bing Crosby and (shudder) Jimmy Fallon this year, one name that hasn’t become synonymous with holiday music is Eric Idle.
The Monty Python star recently alluded to this fact on social media, bemoaning that Spotify has seen a spike in streams for Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime” but not his own seasonal track. Of course, that could have something to do with the fact that Idle’s holiday song features the less than savory title: “Fuck Christmas.”
You see, unlike other classic Yuletide tunes, which generally celebrate the spirit of the season, Idle’s song is nearly two full minutes of vitriolic Christmas hate,...

James Bond is one of the most celebrated characters in the literary and cinematic world alike. The adventures of the suave British spy have entertained audiences for decades. To play the role of James Bond on screen is a highly coveted opportunity among actors. And since the release of the first Bond film, Dr. No in 1962, only six actors have officially played 007 in the Eon Productions franchise. And they will go down in history for having played the icon that is James Bond.
However, the lineup of “actors who have played James Bond” would have looked very different, had things gone differently in some places. Many desperately sought the role; while the number of actors who were offered and almost chosen to play the MI6 agent and decided not to, is not small either.
It will be interesting to look back at the past and see which actors missed out...
