Bill Skarsgård Thriller Debuts On Rt With Score That Continues Nosferatu Star's Post-Crow Hot Streak
Bill Skarsgård has continued his Rotten Tomatoes hot streak with his latest thriller. The actor, who is the son of Mamma Mia! and Thor star Stellan Skarsgård and the brother of True Blood and Big Little Lies' Alexander Skarsgård, had his breakout role when he played Pennywise in 2017's It and its 2019 sequel It: Chapter Two. Since then, he has taken on a number of roles in prominent projects including playing Zeitgeist in Deadpool 2, Kro in Eternals, and Marquis Vincent de Gramont in John Wick: Chapter 4.
Recent Bill Skarsgård movies have had a scattershot response from critics. While the twisty horror-thriller Barbarian (92%) and the action sequel John Wick: Chapter 4 (94%) earned him two Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes scores in a row in 2022 and 2023 respectively, he followed that by starring in a pair of 2024 action movies that earned splats, namely Boy Kills World (58%) and The Crow (21%). However, he closed out...

Bill Skarsgård is proving to have the most varied and interesting career of the talented Skarsgård clan. Son of Stellan Skarsgård (Dune: Part Two) and brother of Alexander (The Northman) and Gustaf (Vikings) Skarsgård, Bill has continuously chosen projects that showcase his range and abilities. In Locked he takes on the difficult task of carrying an entire narrative with nothing to work against except the imposing voice of Anthony Hopkins. It’s an imposing challenge that Skarsgård concurs with ease, giving the greatest performance of his career.

“Andor” creator Tony Gilroy recently told Collider that he will not be making any of the scripts for the “Star Wars” series public out of fear they will be used to train artificial intelligence systems. Gilroy had been planning to release the scripts for the show’s first season in a book format that fans could purchase, similar to shows such as HBO’s “Succession.” However, the rise of AI effectively killed that plan.
“I wanted to do it,” Gilroy said about releasing the scripts. “We put it together. It’s really cool. I’ve seen it, I loved it. AI is the reason we’re not. In the end, it would be 1,500 pages that came directly off this desk. I mean, terribly sadly, it’s just too much of an X-ray and too easily absorbed. Why help the fucking robots anymore than you can? So, it was an ego thing.

It’s time to look at the work of one of the greatest directors of our generation: Christopher Nolan. How big is Nolan these days? Interstellar, a movie which was never among the director’s top grossers, hit IMAX screens last week for its tenth anniversary, and screenings have been selling out constantly. The fact is – Nolan makes movies that belong on the big-screen, and he’s one of the few directors who’s arguably become his own franchise. For proof of that, one need only look at the fact that he’s planning a new movie, and the cast is jampacked with A-listers, because Everyone wants to work with Nolan.
A caveat – our Christopher Nolan movies ranked list is just one person’s opinion, and his work is divisive. Everyone has their favourites (and least favourites), so I’m hoping this ranking will open up some discussion in the comments below.

The hype surrounding Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Exorcist project gets more intense as days roll by, but there are also so many thoughts about the previous installments that heavily bombed at the box office. It took many years in between before the franchise produced follow-ups, simply because it wasn’t meant to be a cinematic universe.

What’s more upsetting is the fact that Guillermo del Toro almost helmed the unfortunate 2005 prequel movie, Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist, which already leaves us fans thinking he could have singlehandedly saved it. The project eventually went to Paul Schrader.

What’s going to be this year’s “Anora”? As the Cannes Film Festival rapidly approaches, that’s the question for artistic director Thierry Fremaux and movie buffs around the world.
A month before Cannes Film Festival’s press conference, the official selection is still very much a work in progress, with little reliable information filtering through about which movies have already been invited. In fact, as of Friday — despite the volume of splashy prediction stories — it appears that only three films have so far been given a golden ticket to compete in Cannes. Variety can reveal that one of them is Jim Jarmusch’s anticipated “Father Mother Sister Brother“ starring Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver and Tom Waits.
The last edition of the festival, which Fremaux had warned would be slightly weaker due to the impact of the double Hollywood strikes, proved to be anything but. Headlined by Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or-winning “Anora,...

No one can question director Denis Villeneuve's love for Dune. His relationship with Frank Herbert's saga of sandworms and messiahs began at age 13 and has culminated in arguably the best sci-fi adaptation of all time: Dune: Part Two. But even a Dune lover like Villeneuve got one thing wrong while making the film: it resulted in a fight (of sorts) with a cast member, ultimately giving the film its only curse word. Let me explain!
Halfway through Dune: Part Two, we learn that Atreides family war master Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin) survived the Harkonnen attack from the previous film. The troubadour warrior becomes a spice smuggler following the catastrophe. In a tense moment, right before he reunites with Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), Gurney sees a spice-harvester blow up in the sky and mouths the film's only swear word "Oh F**k."

While the titular character is the show’s primary focus, Gilroy impressed viewers with a compelling cast of supporting characters.

While Andor gave Tony Gilroy free reign to explore the Rebel Alliance's origins, he will ensure the final season adheres to key moments in Star Wars history.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gilroy talked about what lies in store for Andor's sprawling cast and how the lead-up to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will chart their growth over four years of Rebel and Imperial conflict. Regarding Mon Mothma's transition from Imperial Senate opposition to future leader of the Rebellion, he acknowledged, "Canonically, there's the moment where she leaves the Senate, and that's in our timeline. So we're definitely dealing with that, but I would say, of all the characters in the show, of all the hellacious things that people go through, and all of the difficulties and hardships, I don't think anybody has a harder road than she does. Because she has to do everything that everybody else does with all the tension,...

The first season of Star Wars: Andor traced the development of lead character Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) from a loner mercenary to a dedicated freedom fighter willing to join the rebellion against the Empire. By the time of the movie Rogue One, he's one of the rebellion's star players. The second and final season of Andor will show us how he gets to that point.
"When we meet him, it's a year later, and he's all in," Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy told Entertainment Weekly. "Luthen is a really great talent scout, a great agent and teacher as well. Cassian's utility, how far can he go? We know how far he's going to go in Rogue. By the time he gets to Rogue he can do anything. He's a master. So, there'll be espionage. There'll be leadership. There'll be all kinds of new educational tests for him along the way,...

If no one has told you to watch "Andor" yet, then let me be the first (and certainly the loudest). Despite earning rave reviews during its first season and quickly establishing itself as the greatest "Star Wars" TV series to date, the sci-fi spy thriller and "Rogue One" prequel has flown a bit under the radar for more casual fans. Thankfully, it's now easier to watch than ever before.

Disney+ released a new "Special Look" for Andor Season 2. The preview offers a more authentic glimpse into the upcoming Star Wars series than the initial trailer, which featured Steve Earle's "The Revolution Starts Now" – a thematically relevant but tonally mismatched protest song.
The second season premieres April 22 on Disney+, continuing the prequel story to Rogue One through four self-contained adventures, each episode spanning a year.
Andor Season 2 Preview Showcases Galaxy-Wide Rebellion Is The Ghorman Massacre Due For Live-Action Depiction?
Tensions are rising in the Andor Season 2 sneak peek, befitting the upcoming episodes acting as the final stop on the road to Rogue One. The new footage spotlights the escalating conflict between the Empire and disparate resistance forces. The separate, uncoordinated resurgence paints a picture of burgeoning opposition that will inevitably evolve into the Rebellion, and the preview's closed captioning may have revealed what event will force the retaliatory cells to combine.

Andor Season 2 is only a few months away, so marketing has kicked into gear for the highly anticipated continuation. The series' first season, which premiered in 2022, was created by Tony Gilroy and recounts the life of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) leading up to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The 12-episode first season would set a new standard for episodic storytelling in the Star Wars universe, posing complex and morally ambiguous questions about the origins of the rebellion and making the galaxy far, far, away feel more lived-in than ever before. Now, an extended look at Andor Season 2 seems to suggest the level of quality in storytelling hasn't changed at all.
The video, which can be viewed below, is a featurette showcasing exciting new scenes from the show. It also features the cast and creators, who discuss the effort that went into making the second (and final) season of Andor.

Disney+ takes Andor fans behind the scenes with a two-minute video featuring the cast and Tony Gilroy. “Revolutionary movements are spontaneously happening all over the galaxy. How those come together is the stuff of our story,” explains creator, writer, and executive producer Tony Gilroy in the video. Gilroy adds, “These 12 episodes are gonna take us over the next four years into Rogue One. The complexity of the show, the possibilities of the show – it has to be all in.”
“If season one laid the track, then season two is the juggernaut,” says Genevieve O’Reilly, who plays Mon Mothma, highlighting the impressive scale of the production.
Diego Luna leads the cast as Cassian Andor. Season two also stars Stellan Skarsgård, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Faye Marsay, Varada Sethu, Elizabeth Dulau, Alan Tudyk, Ben Mendelsohn, and Forest Whitaker.

The road to rebellion begins on April 22.
Following the recent first trailer, Disney+ has shared a "Special Look" at the second season of Andor, and the promo includes quite a bit of new footage.
In addition to behind-the-scenes interviews with members of the cast and creator/writer Tony Gilroy, the video strongly hints that an incident that occurred during the events of Star Wars Rebels will be depicted.
Possible spoilers ahead.
The Ghorman Massacre took place in 2 Bby, and saw Imperial Stormtroopers slaughter peaceful protesters on the planet Ghorman. Senator Mon Mothma publicly blamed Emperor Palpatine for the attacks, which resulted in the Empire attempting to apprehend her.
Though it's too early to tell for sure, it seems this tragic event might be the catalyst for thousands throughout the galaxy rising up against the Empire and joining the Rebellion.

The folks behind AndorSeason 2 must have been feeling a little rebellious, as a special-look featurette has quietly released on Disney+, offering a sneak peek of what's to come in the next chapter. Fans of the galaxy far, far away have plenty to be excited about, as the behind-the-scenes glimpse of the upcoming season teases plenty of action and adventure, familiar worlds, and a major event from the Star Wars Expanded Universe.
As reported by Star Wars News Net, the video, which has already made its way online via X/Twitter (as seen below), packs a lot into its less than three-minute runtime. One clip that is sure to raise a few eyebrows is that of a crowd of protestors, who, according to closed captioning, are "singing in Ghor." This brief tease seems to suggest that Andor Season 2 will cover the events of the infamous Ghorman Massacre.

Denis Villenueve inarguably accomplished an impressive feat with his first two "Dune" movies. Finally giving Frank Herbert's supposedly "unfilmable" 1965 novel a worthy big screen adaptation, the French Canadian filmmaker somehow managed to craft his own unique vision while staying true to the author's original story.
Villeneueve was clearly loyal to Herbert's writing but wasn't so precious about it that his movies didn't make changes to the novel. In places, the director and his team were able to make their own creative decisions, such as when production designer Patrice Vermette based the look of the Emperor Shaddam's tent on a Rolex watch. Elsewhere, cinematographer Greig Fraser shot the exterior of the Harkonnen home planet Giedi Prime with infrared cameras to produce a monochrome image that reflected the black sun-drenched surface of the world. These were all creative decisions the team had to make in order to bring Herbert's words to life in a visual medium.

From The Shining to It's a Wonderful Life, many of the most influential films in history were savaged by critics upon their release. These films prove that bad reviews alone don't mean a movie is destined for doom. In fact, sometimes critics can entirely miss the point of a film or overlook its most charming aspects.
In the early 2000s, franchise films had yet to establish their stranglehold on Hollywood, and theaters were filled with countless original and unusual movies. Whether it was rom-coms or action blockbusters, the aughts had a fun and light style that was often overlooked by the critics. And many films that were not exactly Oscar-worthy, nonetheless helped define the era, being fondly remembered by their fans decades later.

Dune: Part Two earned widespread acclaim in 2024, praised for its massive scope, set pieces, and political intrigue. The sequel completes director Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's first Dune novel, effectively adapting the back half of the book. If the 2021 film didn't do so already, this sequel establishes the series as a cinematic franchise that is not to be missed. With the new Dune movies introducing the sci-fi epic to a new generation of fans, audiences are bound to have questions about the most recent film—especially with Villeneuve's adaptation of Dune Messiah on the way.
With the IP's newfound franchise status, the world of Herbert's Dune has also expanded into TV.

A good season of television should have a great finale, but for that finale to really pack a punch, the episode preceding it needs to put the right pieces in place and set the stage for whatever twists, turns, or resolution is about to transpire. Star Wars series are no exception. Let's dive into how well the penultimate episodes set the table for the ultimate finale feast.
Here are the 9 penultimate episodes of live-action Star Wars television ranked in how they set up their finale.

There is absolutely a subtle art to adapting material and not every storyteller is skilled enough to handle it. It's actually no surprise that so many book adaptations fail to meet audience expectations and only a small handful are considered worthy. Even when some filmmakers do a good job at adapting material, there are still people who fall on the other side of the line and criticize the films. Denis Villeneuve is one of those rare filmmakers who has a way with adaptations. He is able to uphold the value of the original and bring something new to the material in order to heighten the quality of his films. His Dune films have been mostly received positively and have not been getting much pushback from fans of the books.
However, there are still plenty of fans who haven't cared for the new Dune films and even prefer the 1984 film by David Lynch.

Adapting Frank Herbert's 1965 novel "Dune" has proven a tad tricky ever since David Lynch gave it his best shot in 1984. Despite the fact that Lynch's film has gained its admirers in the years since, there are all sort of things wrong with the 1984 "Dune," and they didn't improve all that much with the TV adaptations that came in its wake. Though the Sci-Fi channel (now SyFy) versions weren't without their charms, it was until Denis Villeneuve took on Herbert's sci-fi epic that it truly got the adaptation it deserved.
For the most part, Villeneuve accomplished the seemingly impossible by staying faithful to Herbert's original vision where possible, somehow managing to infuse the film with his own sharp sci-fi instincts and sensibility. That said, certain elements of 2021's "Dune" and 2024's "Dune: Part Two" strayed from the original novel in notable ways. For instance, the Lady Jessica of Villeneuve's movies,...

The first trailer for Andor season 2 promises the revolution is upon us in the Star Wars series!
Star Wars fans can be divisive, and many agreements and disagreements can be big. They can debate the merits of the movies, the sequels, and the franchise's direction.
But one thing almost all Star Wars fans can agree on? That Andor is easily the best part of the franchise since Disney purchased it in 2012. The series is a prologue to 2016's Rogue One, with Diego Luna reprising his role as Cassian Andor, who grows from a refugee to a member of the Rebel Alliance.
The show packs in the usual Star Wars action and themes. But what draws viewers in is the incredibly in-depth writing, character work, and political drama. It's watching the Rebellion slowly grow with Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly), secretly working to get funds to start the Rebellion with Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard).

IndieWire invited the cinematographers from the Oscar-nominated films to choose and analyze a pivotal scene that best showcases their craft. Here are the four who were able to participate: Lol Crawley (“The Brutalist”), Greig Fraser (“Dune: Part Two”), Paul Guilhaume (“Emilia Pérez”), and Ed Lachman (“Maria”).
For Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist,” Crawley resurrected VistaVision, the higher resolution, wide-screen variant of 35mm popularized in the ’50s (“Vertigo”). The strategy worked visually and thematically for a maximalist approach to this post-war immigrant drama about Holocaust survivor and visionary architect László Tóth (Best Actor nominee Adrien Brody). It brilliantly showed off the Brutalist style of Tóth’s work as an expression of his post-war trauma, with its massive blocks of concrete and steel. Additionally, the format provided a wider field of view of the compositions.
