Kevin Costner and Elijah Wood are two of Hollywood's most dynamic and celebrated performers, with the talented duo joining forces in 1994 to headline the poignant coming-of-age drama The War, a thought-provoking film that focuses on a Vietnam War veteran who returns to his home and family in Mississippi and struggles to overcome his crippling Ptsd and war trauma. Wood appears as Costner's headstrong son, who undergoes a major transformation himself as he tries to find meaning and purpose outside of his dreary household by building his own sanctuary in the form of a treehouse in the forest.
Though The War ultimately proved to be a box office dud and attracted underwhelming reviews from critics, moviegoers appreciated the wholesome chemistry between Costner and Wood, with many raving about the younger star's vulnerable performance and the endearing father/son bond the two shared. The little-known drama served as a major stepping stone...

Whether they admit it or not, the dream of every filmmaker is to become immortal through the release of their movies. Filmmakers seeking immortality have the seemingly impossible task of not only appealing to their contemporary audience, but also making a film that can stand the test of time. Golden Globe nominee Rob Lowe has shared a new update regarding the current status of Sony Pictures’ upcoming St. Elmo’s Fire sequel. In the 1985 movie, The West Wing alum portrayed the role of Billy Hicks, a charming saxophonist who’s not quite ready yet to grow up and face his responsibilities, despite already being married with a baby.
During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Lowe confirmed that St. Elmo’s Fire 2 is still in development, after over seven months since the reunion project was first announced. However, he hinted that it may still take a while before the long-awaited sequel could go forward into production. "We’re putting together St. Elmo’s Fire 2. So we’re back working together… I’m dead [serious.] Yes. We’re gonna see what those people are doing at our ages now. This is a real thing," Lowe said. "I know. It’s great.

Upon hearing about the audacious concept of Miracle Mile, the egregiously overlooked dark romantic comedy-turned-apocalyptic thriller, you'll be annoyed that you've somehow gone this long without ever knowing about this extraordinary hidden gem. The 1989 film by Steve De Jarnatt delivers on its bold genre-shifting template. Starring Anthony Edwards and Mare Winningham, Miracle Mile has seen its share of reappraisal online, but it is due to experience a reclamation as a text representing the dual side of the same coin in America in the 1980s. One minute, you think you have discovered the love of your life, but after one phone call, you'll be forced to reckon with the end of the world due to a nuclear attack. Even with the threat of total annihilation, Miracle Mile demonstrates that paranoia can destroy us all before one bomb is even dropped.

One of the most groundbreaking shows in television history is "The Twilight Zone," created in 1959 by Rod Serling. An anthology series, each episode weaves into thought-provoking tales that individually veer into the realms of science fiction, fantasy, or outright horror. Well-received during its initial broadcast run, "The Twilight Zone" went on to produce multiple revival series after the original show's conclusion in 1964. And while horror wasn't always the series' main focus, it produced some of the most memorably frightening episodes of its time.
Whether asking disturbing existential questions or presenting genuinely terrifying antagonists and narrative stakes, "The Twilight Zone" has always been effective at telling scary stories. This remains true of several of its revivals, particularly the '80s iteration and the Paramount+ series that began in 2019. In its exploration of the surreal, there is always something haunting about "The Twilight Zone" and its best horror-oriented episodes will stay with...

Even in the current era of streaming services, police procedural television is still going strong with shows like NCIS, Law & Order: Svu and 9-1-1 continuously pulling in impressive viewership numbers. These shows usually have numerous seasons and fresh plots that force the audience to think. However, for every popular procedural show, there are bound to be some that receive significantly lesser attention, despite being as good as, if not better than popular police procedurals.
These procedurals didn't get proper time in the spotlight. Instead, they either got overshadowed by more famous shows, had concepts that viewers weren't ready for, or simply got lost in the shuffle. From AI-based thrillers like Person of Interest to fantasy cop shows like Grimm, these underrated procedural shows deserve more recognition. They offer the same mystery, thrills, and adrenaline-spiking action that the genre is so well-loved for.

Jennifer Jason Leigh came from a showbiz family. Her father was Vic Morrow, a prolific film and TV actor who starred in the series "Combat!" Her mother was Barbara Turner who acted in many TV shows throughout the '50s and '60s, and who wrote the screenplays for "Petulia," "Cujo," "Georgia," and "Pollock." Leigh started attending acting workshops when she was still a teenager, studying with Lee Strasberg. At age 16, she started to land her first professional acting gigs, appearing in an episode of "Baretta," and in the film "The Young Runaways." In 1981, she caught the public's eye playing a young woman battling anorexia in the TV movie "The Best Little Girl in the World," but it wasn't until her role in 1982's "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" that the world took proper notice.

Gypsy, the much-anticipated musical revival starring Audra McDonald, was at standing room only during its first week of previews at the Majestic Theatre, grossing $770,349 for only three performances. At that rate, the production is sure to rank among the top grossing shows on Broadway in the coming weeks.
With an average ticket price of $160.19, Gypsy was at 100.8% of the venue’s capacity for the Broadway week ending November 24. Directed by George C. Wolfe, the revival of the Arthur Laurents-Jule Styne-Stephen Sondheim classic officially opens December 19, with McDonald, Danny Burstein and Joy Woods leading the cast.
At the opposite end of the Broadway grosses spectrum last week was Tammy Faye, the critically panned Elton John-Jake Shears musical about televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker. Posting a December 8 closing notice shortly after opening at the Palace on November 14, Tammy Faye took in just $317,913 last week, filling only 41% of the venue’s seats.

When filmmaker Richard Kelly made his feature directorial debut "Donnie Darko" in 2001, it caused a stir in the arthouse world. "Donnie Darko" quickly accumulated a passionate cult who fell in love with its unbalanced hero (Jake Gyllenhaal) and its twisted time-travel plot. It was a combination psychological horror film and bizarro indie coming-of-age-in-the-1980s tale. Unsurprisingly, it only took a few additional years for "Donnie Darko" to become a regular staple on the midnight movie circuit, with fans dressing up as the film's enigmatic Frank the Bunny on Halloween.
The cult success of "Donnie Darko," however, seemingly went to Kelly's head as he appeared to become very, very convinced of his own importance as a new artistic voice in the indie film world. It took five years, but he eventually returned to theaters with the utterly gonzo "Southland Tales," an epic and ambitious film about the horrors of the George W. Bush administration.

Netflix's Rob Peace tells the moving true story of the late Robert DeShaun Peace, a New Jersey native who went to Yale University while also attempting to help his incarcerated father. Rob Peace's courageous true story of a young Black man working to survive systemic oppression and break patterns of generational trauma has long resonated with audiences, since the late Peace's friend Jeff Hobbs published the novel on which it is based. The Short And Tragic Life Of Robert Peace was published in 2014.
Much of Rob Peace's central story and characters is based in reality, as Hobbs was a Yale classmate and close friend to Peace prior to his untimely death in a drug-related shooting. However, there are several pivotal changes made in this dramatized version of Peace's life. The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Mary J. Blige, Mare Winningham, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Camila Cabello, and rising talent Jay Will.

The cast of Rob Peace helped bring the true story of Robert DeShaun Peace to the screen, and they worked together quite well. Rob Peace recently reached the top 10 list on Netflix's best movies list, and there are a few reasons the biographical film has gained so much popularity. It tells a heartbreaking true story about injustice and a young man who died too early, and its emotional plot likely spoke to a lot of viewers. Given Rob Peace's reviews and its 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, viewers definitely empathized with Rob.
The main reason Rob Peace's story resonated so well is because of its star-studded cast. From Oscar-nominated actors to Grammy-winning singers, almost everyone who was involved in Rob Peace is at the top of their field. Several of them have gone on to even more projects after Rob Peace as well, so there's a chance they'll be...

While many works of Richard Matheson ended up on the small screen, the author was a giant when it came to genre. From post-apocalyptic monsters to gremlins on a plane, Matheson fathered a treasure trove of speculative stories that have since inspired countless other writers, including Stephen King. King said of the late Matheson: “[He] fired my imagination by placing his horrors not in European castles and Lovecraftian universes, but in American scenes I knew and could relate to.” And of all his homegrown writings, Matheson’s short story “Button, Button” may very well be his most approachable. For everyone can understand the allure of immediate wealth, even if that windfall comes with strings attached. Matheson, however, wove this universal desire into a unique and uncanny moral quandary — one where the offer is not only too good to be true, it also has fatal consequences.

There's no shortage of Stephen King shows on TV. The prolific horror author's works have been translated to the small screen no fewer than two dozen times across five-plus decades, beginning with Tobe Hooper's "Salem's Lot" miniseries in 1979 and spanning all the way to an upcoming "Sleeping Beauties" adaptation and Mike Flanagan's highly anticipated take on "The Dark Tower." Plenty of King shows have enjoyed celebrated runs and completed the stories their creators planned to tell, but there are a few that slipped through the cracks and were canceled too soon. Among them is "The Outsider," an utterly creepy King adaptation that got the short end of the stick when it debuted in 2020.
"The Outsider" earned rave reviews when it premiered on HBO in January of that year, but by the time its finale aired, the world had other things on its mind.

While Moore and Lowe were a hit on-screen pair after co-starring in St. Elmo’s Fire and About Last Night, they also “had a thing” off-screen.

Nearly 40 years later, St. Elmo’s Fire is continuing to burn bright for its stars.
After first teasing a sequel in July, Rob Lowe recently gave an update that the followup to the 1985 coming-of-age film is “moving along” as he and co-star Demi Moore are in contact about the film.

The planned sequel to 1985’s St Elmo’s Fire still lacks a director and doesn’t even have a writer yet, but the original cast have all agreed to return.
Back in August we learned that there was a plan in place to bring back the core cast of St Elmo’s Fire for a belated sequel. When Rob Lowe, one of the stars of St Elmo’s Fire, broke news of the sequel, he stated that negotiations were happening but that none of the cast were yet confirmed. A few months on, Lowe (who seems to be the film’s unofficial spokesperson) has popped up again to confirm that every member of the original film’s core cast will be returning. That means Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Andie MacDowell and Mare Winningham are all set to reprise their roles in the film.

Earlier this summer, it was reported Sony Pictures has been considering a sequel to St. Elmo’s Fire. The quintessential ‘80s Brat Pack movie stars Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Andie MacDowell and Mare Winningham as a group of recent graduates who must adjust to post-university life and the responsibilities of adulthood.
While speaking with Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa (via IndieWire), Rob Lowe dropped an update on the St. Elmo’s Fire sequel. The actor confirmed that it’s “moving along” but that it’s “going a little more slowly than I would have liked, but that’s a good thing because we’re trying to find the right writer and the right story. Rob Lowe is teasing that there is still plenty of fuel for the “St. Elmo’s Fire” sequel.
The actor said during SiriusXM’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa” that the full cast of the original 1985 film are confirmed to reprise their respective roles, and that “The Substance” Oscar contender Demi Moore has especially been instrumental to the revival.
The feature, which was originally directed by late filmmaker Joel Schumacher and co-written by Carl Kurlander, also stars Andrew McCarthy, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Andie MacDowell, and Mare Winningham. MacDowell’s daughter Margaret Qualley co-led “The Substance” with Moore.
A possible sequel to “St. Elmo’s Fire” was announced in June 2024 after the release of McCarthy’s documentary “Brats” which revisited the era of the Brat Pack actors.

If John Hughes’ The Breakfast Club remains the quintessential ‘80s Brat Pack movie, what ranks as a close second? If we’re talking headcount, Joel Shcumacher’s critically panned commercial hit St. Elmo’s Fire (which might be getting a sequel) tops them all. The movie follows a tight-knit group of seven Georgetown post-graduates navigating young adulthood and helped define the “Brat Pack” as a play on the fraternal friendship forged by Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack in the ‘50s and ‘60s. In addition to advancing Schumacher’s directorial career, St. Elmo’s Fire partially launched the careers of stars Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, and Mare Winningham, most of whom would be associated with the Brat Pack for the next 40 years. The subject is documented in the new Hulu documentary, Brats, written and directed by McCarthy in a tender and touching snapshot of...

Fans of Stephen King's novel "The Outsider" were disappointed by HBO's decision to cancel the critically acclaimed series after just one season. King himself, along with crime novelist Linwood Barclay, believes that the show deserved a second season due to its gripping storyline and talented ensemble cast. Despite the cancellation of "The Outsider," Stephen King continues to thrive in the world of adaptations, with several highly anticipated projects in the works, including "Salem's Lot" and "The Long Walk."
Bestselling horror author Stephen King has a lot of opinions about movie and TV content, especially when it comes to adaptations of his own work. He regularly voices these opinions using his X account. One such opinion has to do with HBO's 2020 series The Outsider, an adaptation of his novel of the same name which he clearly believes deserved more than a single season.

Rob Lowe has confirmed that talks are happening for a sequel to Joel Schumacher’s iconic 1985 Brat Pack film, St Elmo’s Fire.
Joel Schumacher made many films over the course of his career, but 1985’s St Elmo’s Fire, which Schumacher also wrote with Carl Kurlander, holds a special place for many. Rob Lowe says that talks about a potential St. Elmo’s Fire sequel are very real.
The actor shared in a recent interview that a follow-up to the 1985 film co-written and directed by Joel Schumacher is happening, but don’t get your hopes up just yet.
“We’ve met with the studio and I have been talking about doing it for about four months,” Lowe said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “But it’s very, very, very, very, very early stages. So we will see.”
Lowe noted that the Brats documentary “only added to the excitement around” a sequel to the coming-of-age film, which also starred Emilio Estevez, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Andie MacDowell, and Mare Winningham.
Deadline reported in June that Sony was exploring the possibility of making a new version of St. Elmo’s Fire after McCarthy’s documentary Brats relived the memories of the “Brat Pack.

Thanks to the recent Hulu documentary Brats, theres a renewed interest in the Brat Pack, the famous group of actors from the 1980s which included the likes of Rob Lowe, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Andrew McCarthy, and Emilio Estevez, to name a few. Real ones who grew up with posters on their walls and dressed in similar fashion to the iconic band of misfits never lost their love for the group, but its that fresh spark that, according to Lowe, could lead to a legacy sequel of St. Elmos Fire if all the stars align.
Speaking with ScreenRant, Lowe confirmed reports that a legacy sequel to St. Elmos Fire featuring the original cast is in the works, though he admits that its very early on in the process. How early? According to Lowe, five "verys." Check out his comments below.

HBO's The Outsider, which is now streaming on Max, is a 2020 TV series about the killing of a child. Or at least it starts out that way. Since it's based on a book by Stephen King, you can be sure that the circumstances of the killing turn out to be extremely weird and unsettling. As a matter of fact, things quickly don't add up for Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn), the police detective who investigates the case. While he has a great deal of evidence leading him to believe that Terry Maitland (Jason Bateman) did it, after he arrests Terry, he begins to doubt Terry's guilt.

St. Elmo's Fire captures the struggles of young adults navigating adulthood in Reagan's America, highlighting the excesses and anxieties of the era. The characters reflect societal expectations of wealth, politics, and identity, illustrating the challenges of growing up in a changing world. Critics may dislike the characters' privileged whining, but the film's portrayal of post-college uncertainties resonates with themes of generational transition.

Sutherland's transformative acting in Threshold showcases his exceptional range as an underrated actor.
Donald Sutherland played several doctors throughout his career, beginning with Sutherlands star-making performance as audacious combat surgeon Benjamin Franklin Hawkeye Pierce in the 1970 black comedy war film M*A*S*H. Following M*A*S*H, he played a paleontologist in the 1984 mystery film Ordeal by Innocence, a dedicated psychologist in the 1989 film Lost Angels, and Canadian physician Norman Bethune in the 1990 biographical drama film Bethune: The Making of a Hero.

Westerns experienced a decline in popularity until Clint Eastwood's Dollars trilogy revived the genre, and Kevin Costner helped revive them further. Sony Pictures is considering a new version of St. Elmo's Fire, possibly involving the original cast. St. Elmo's Fire, a signature Brat Pack film, focused on friends adjusting to adulthood post-college in the '80s. Despite initial poor reviews, the film was a financial success, spawning a hit song, and can be streamed on Hulu.
Andrew McCarthy's Hulu documentary Brats, which looks back on the impact of 'The Brat Pack' and the effect it had on the lives and careers of those who were a part of it, has increased interest in the films featuring some of its members. While many movies could be called "Brat Pack" entries, one that has taken the lead is 1985's St. Elmo's Fire, primarily because the film stars many of the actors featured in the documentary. The movie was a hit in the '80s and now Sony Pictures is exploring the possibility...

Andrew McCarthy’s new Hulu documentary Brats has drawn enough interest for Sony to revisit one of the defining Brat Pack movies. According to Deadline, the studio is “exploring the possibility” of a St. Elmo’s Fire sequel.
Making the film would reportedly “hinge” on reuniting the original cast, featuring McCarthy, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, and Mare Winningham.
Deadline emphasizes the potential sequel is in the “very early going” and doesn’t even have a script yet.
Co-written and directed by the late Joel Schumacher, St. Elmo’s Fire was released in 1985 and centered around a group of recent Georgetown University graduates as they struggle with the responsibilities of adulthood. It was a surprise hit, grossing $37.8 million on a $10 million budget.
This isn’t the first attempt at revisiting St. Elmo’s Fire in recent years. NBC began developing a TV series in 2019, but the network...

Sony is considering making a new St. Elmo's Fire movie. The project would be contingent on the ability to reunite the original cast. Considering the group's fraught relationship to being deemed part of the Brat Pack, this possibility does not seem entirely likely.
A new St. Elmo's Fire movie could be in the works. The original 1985 cult classic movie was directed by Joel Schumacher and followed a group of young people who have a variety of reactions to being newly thrust into adulthood after they graduate from Georgetown University. Along with the stars of The Breakfast Club, the St. Elmo's Fire cast defined the Brat Pack, a group of young actors who frequently collaborated on teen and new adult movies in the mid to late 1980s.
Per Deadline, Sony is circling the possibility of making a new St. Elmo's Fire movie. Instead of being a reboot, the movie would be...
