After first teasing a sequel in July, Rob Lowe recently gave an update that the followup to the 1985 coming-of-age film is “moving along” as he and co-star Demi Moore are in contact about the film.

“We’re very much in contact now because we are actively trying to do [the] St. Elmo’s Fire sequel,” said Lowe on Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast.

“It’s going a little more slowly than I would have liked,” he added. “But that’s a good thing because we’re trying to find the right writer and the right story. But all of the actors, everybody is on board. Everybody is excited.”

Back in August we learned that there was a plan in place to bring back the core cast of St Elmo’s Fire for a belated sequel. When Rob Lowe, one of the stars of St Elmo’s Fire, broke news of the sequel, he stated that negotiations were happening but that none of the cast were yet confirmed. A few months on, Lowe (who seems to be the film’s unofficial spokesperson) has popped up again to confirm that every member of the original film’s core cast will be returning. That means Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Andie MacDowell and Mare Winningham are all set to reprise their roles in the film.

The actor said during SiriusXM’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa” that the full cast of the original 1985 film are confirmed to reprise their respective roles, and that “The Substance” Oscar contender Demi Moore has especially been instrumental to the revival.

The actor shared in a recent interview that a follow-up to the 1985 film co-written and directed by Joel Schumacher is happening, but don’t get your hopes up just yet.

“We’ve met with the studio and I have been talking about doing it for about four months,” Lowe said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “But it’s very, very, very, very, very early stages. So we will see.”
