Quentin Tarantino’s iconicKill Bill franchise will be heading to a brand-new streaming home for the month of April. Both Volume 1 and 2 were led by Academy Award nominee Uma Thurman as Beatrix “The Bride” Kiddo, who’s hellbent on seeking revenge against the members of the assassination squad she was once a part of.
Beginning on April 1, Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Kill Bill: Volume 2 will officially start streaming for free on Tubi. The franchise centers around The Bride, a vengeful former assassin whose chance to have a complete family gets taken away after her former squad, The Deadly Vipers, suddenly attacked her and her groom during their wedding rehearsal. After waking up from a four-year coma, she embarks on a revenge-fueled quest to hunt down the ones responsible for the wedding massacre and the loss of her unborn child. One of the unexpected pleasures of this year’s vast SXSW slate of movies is Bunny, a kind of zany comic throwback to extreme indie New York City-centric movies that find a manic energy and rhythm that lets them exist on their own breathless cloud, with a cast of wacky characters moving in and out of frame in action that takes place almost entirely in an East Village tenement, or outside just in front of it.
In some ways Bunny is an oddball cross of Weekend at Bernie’s, Abbott & Costello, Cheech & Chong and a new-age Marx Brothers movie, plus films of the Safdie brothers (particularly Uncut Gems) all the way back to Hal Ashby’s wonderful directorial debut with 1970’s The Landlord, another NYC tenement movie I kept thinking about watching this stew. Throw them all into a blender and you might have something resembling what first-time director...

Since Osgood Perkins’ feature debut with The Blackcoat’s Daughter, the filmmaker quickly developed a reputation for somber, atmospheric horror. Perkins left that variety of horror behind for his fifth outing as director with The Monkey, opting instead to entertain with an absurdist, gory comedy that mines death for all its mordant humor. It’s a move that might seem out of left field at first, until you recall Perkins’ early career start as an actor with comedic roles including the underseen early aughts horror-comedy Dead & Breakfast.
The 2004 zombie comedy from writer/director Matthew Leutwyler follows a group of friends road-tripping in an Rv to Galveston, Texas, for a wedding. Because this is a horror-comedy, the group gets lost and winds up at a bed & breakfast in Lovelock. Things are already weird and eccentric in small town Texas, but then group oddball Johnny (Perkins) opens a small wooden box and unleashes “Kuman Thong,...

As one of Hollywood's auteurs, Quentin Tarantino only helmed one duology in his impressive career. Kill Bill: Volume 1 and 2 were originally developed as a single installment with a runtime approaching four hours.
Quentin Tarantino's iconic Kill Bill films hit Peacock on Mar. 1.Kill Bill: Volume 1 and 2 were massive hits at the box office; two decades after release, the duology is now a classic that showcased Tarantino's passion for anime, exploitation films, samurai cinema, the spaghetti western, and martial arts. Kill Bill's story was developed as early as 1994, while Tarantino was filming Pulp Fiction; Uma Thurman, a lead in the ensemble, conceived and pitched Kill Bill's the Bride to Tarantino, who started developing the script in 2000. Thurman and her then-newborn daughter heavily influenced Tarantino's concept of the Bride.

On March 14, 1972, one of the greatest movies ever made hit theaters. Months later, The Godfather would be crowned the highest-grossing film of the year, and later the highest-grossing Hollywood production, making approximately $250 million globally. Two years later, the film’s impact was still being felt. When the television rights were sold for a record $10 million to NBC for a single showing in 1974, the mob movie attracted a surprisingly large audience with an average Nielsen rating of 38.2 and an audience share of 59%, making it the eighth most-watched film on television at the time.

Since 1975 nearly a thousand hosts have graced the stage at Studio 8H at Rockefeller Center for “Saturday Night Live.”
Actors, comedians, musicians and even politicians have taken the stage to make America laugh on Saturday night for 50 seasons. Twenty five of these hosts have been inducted into the “Five Timers Club.” The club was first introduced during Tom Hanks’ 1990 monologue, featuring Steve Martin, Elliott Gould and Paul Simon.
During Martin Short’s December 2024 appearance, several Five Timers Club members popped up on the show to welcome him into the club, including Emma Stone, Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, Kristen Wiig and more, to give him the ceremonial robe.
Alec Baldwin has hosted the show 17 times, the most in the series’ history, with Martin, Hanks, Buck Henry and John Goodman following close behind.

Timothée Chalamet will be pulling double duty on Saturday Night Live this weekend, as both host and musical guest. Since the actor’s music career so far only consists of playing Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, seemingly he will be performing on SNL as Dylan. Sadly, he’s a month too late to do a snarling cover of “Must Be Santa.”
But long before Chalamet was booked on the show, Bob Dylan himself appeared on SNL for the first and last time in October of 1979. Dylan performed three songs from his Christian-themed album Slow Train Coming.
The host of the episode was Eric Idle, who claimed to be ill. The Monty Python star performed his monologue from a stretcher, following a cold open in which Buck Henry asks Lorne Michaels to put him in as the host instead. In a Reddit Ama, Idle revealed that it wasn’t just...

It can’t be denied that as far as martial arts movies go, the best ones come from Asia, particularly Hong Kong during their action heyday, which was arguably the 70s, 80s and first half of the ’90s. It’s tough to compete with the likes of the Shaw Brothers and the drunken master known as Jackie Chan. That said, martial arts movies were also making a foothold in the States decades ago, thanks mainly to Bruce Lee-mania following the release of Enter the Dragon. Before that movie, very few actors in Hollywood seemed like they were credible martial artists, except maybe James Coburn, a student of Lee’s, who pulled off some pretty good-looking moves in the otherwise silly Our Man Flint movies. Steve McQueen also had training but didn’t use martial arts on screen. Up to then, though, the most notable uses of martial arts in movies usually revolved around Judo,...

After annihilating a bevy of assassins including Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox), O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu), her Crazy 88s and her advisor Sofie Fatale (Julie Dreyfus) in a veritable tsunami of blood in Kill Bill: Vol. 1, The Bride (Uma Thurman) goes on to the other names on her list. Bud (Michael Madsen), Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah), and the most evil of them all, their leader Bill (David Carradine). Kill Bill: Vol. 2 has more character development and backstory than Vol. 1, though Tarantino did spend a good amount of time on O-Ren Ishii’s past via an animated segment, which no doubt saved the production a few million dollars. For example, both Bud and Bill are brothers and murdering bastards but they have a gentler...

Originally intended to be a single film, Quentin Tarantino’s sprawling revenge epic Kill Bill was split into two parts by Miramax for ease of theatrical distribution. But if the bifurcation was imposed on the director, the split nonetheless draws attention to the stark difference in style and tone between each part. With the benefit of hindsight, however, it’s easy to see the division between the films as the line of demarcation separating Tarantino’s early career from his more measured, even mature second phase.
Kill Bill: Vol. 1, released in 2003, represents the aesthetic and tonal pinnacle of Tarantino’s juvenile cinephile side. The Bride (Uma Thurman), a former member of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, is ambushed on her wedding day by the members of her former gang and its ringleader—and the Bride’s ex-lover—Bill (David Carradine), who promptly slaughter the guests and groom and leave the pregnant heroine comatose.

Modern audiences may be familiar with Paul W. S. Anderson’s Death Race, starring Jason Statham and Tyrese Gibson. In the high-adrenaline film, the head of a privatized prison earns millions by broadcasting "Death Race," a vehicular combat racing series where dangerous inmates battle each other in weaponized and armored cars with the goal of winning their freedom. Among the racers is a masked driver named Frankenstein (Statham). However, the story isn’t entirely original.

Eric Weissmann, the veteran entertainment attorney who repped Rita Hayworth, Robert Altman, Elizabeth Taylor and Gene Wilder in a career that lasted more than five decades, has died. He was 94.
Weissmann died Dec. 15 in Denver of natural causes, his granddaughter Sara McCrea told The Hollywood Reporter.
His clients also included David Carradine and Keith Carradine, Peter Bogdanovich, Robert Aldrich, Paul Mazursky and Mark Rydell.
In 2012, Weissmann founded his own practice after spending many years as a senior partner with the Beverly Hills firm Weissmann Wolff Bergman Coleman Grodin. “I look forward to enjoying the freedom of being on my own and devoting full time to my clients,” he said then.
That move came in the wake of Weissmann Wolff merging with Sacramento-based Weintraub Genshlea Chediak Tobin & Tobin, effectively bringing to an end an entertainment law firm that had been a player in Hollywood since the early 1980s.

While the age-old adage "less is more" is sound filmmaking advice, the opposite applies to Jason Statham's relentless action movies. A case in point is Crank 2: High Voltage, a balls-to-the-wall action sequel that goes so far over the top that it dwarfs the absurdity of the original to leave a big, fat grin etched on the faces of hardcore Statham fanatics. Critics were also impressed, giving Crank 2 slightly better reviews than its predecessor.
Boasting a wild premise that forces Statham's Chev Chelios into a ticking-clock health scenario, Crank 2's high-voltage electricity derives from the extreme plot, flagrant fight scenes, hyper-violence, morbid humor, kinetic camerawork, Statham's breathless stunt work, and more. With the film recently celebrating its 15th anniversary, it's time to hook up the jumper cables and bring Crank 2: High Voltage back to life.

Let’s face it. Theatre has been the most successful place for stories about popular musicians. Alicia Keys’ “Hell’s Kitchen” is selling big on Broadway, as is “Mj.” “A Beautiful Noise,” about Neil Diamond ‘s professional and personal history, had a nice run there, and is touring the country after its run in Los Angeles. We’ve had “Tina,” “Jersey Boys,” The Temptations’ “Ain’t Too Proud,” Carole King’s “Beautiful” and others. A new musical is being tested now about Frank Sinatra. But the most exciting news arrives this spring, when recent Tony winner Jonathan Groff portrays Bobby Darin.
But movies about musical stars? A mixed bag. (including Kevin Spacey in a bad one about Bobby Darin) Documentaries have been the safest form to chronicle the life of famous musicians: Ones about David Crosby, Joan Baez, Springsteen, and Linda Ronstadt. And, of course, “Woodstock” and Martin Scorsese’s “Last Waltz.

Saturday Night Live released a "unique" retelling of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It's a straightforward adaptation of the story for a full minute, and then it became a Quentin Tarantino fever dream.
Lucy Liu reprised her Kill Bill character in a cut-for-time Saturday Night Live sketch. A Quentin Tarantino film is often a highlight in any actor's career, and Liu got hers after breakout stints in two Charlie's Angels movies; she was cast in Kill Bill: Volume 1 as O-Ren Ishii. Liu played a one-and-done character, however; Beatrix Kiddo sliced O-Ren's cranium clean off toward the end of the film. “True Legend” signals the return to the director’s chair for Yuen after he last directed “Tai Chi Boxer” back in 1996. Meanwhile, he had been busy choreographing the fight sequences for films like “The Matrix” series, “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, “Kill Bill: Volume 1 and 2”, “Fearless” and “The Forbidden Kingdom”. Including an all-star cast set in the late Qing dynasty, “True Legend” tells the story of a retired general Su Can who later mastered the Drunken Fist style and became the folk hero Beggar Su.

There's something satisfying when the opening scene of a movie sets the tone for the rest of the story, from horror films like The Shining, where the first couple of seconds showcase an expansive mountain landscape, to Star Trek, where the viewer experiences the quietness and vastness of space. From nature shots, and explosive car chase scenes, to tense and heated arguments, the first few seconds of a movie are the most important in getting viewers hooked.
While some movies can take a while to get into, there are some standout movies that people just want to fully immerse themselves in after only a few seconds. No matter how many times viewers have watched a movie, there are some horror movies with scary opening scenes that are terrifying to rewatch because the openers remind them of a true story.

Once upon a time, the most popular monsters of filmdom were linked to certain actors. Though other individuals would play these roles over time, ask any movie buff to name the performers best known for portraying Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy and the Wolf Man, and they'll fire back with, respectively, Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Karloff again, and Lon Chaney Jr. But while these roles were spoken for in the public's consciousness, one of these actors was famous, at least among seriously committed horror fans, for having played all four of Universal's marquee monsters -- and that actor was Chaney Jr.

For better or worse, sequels form an intrinsic element of cinema's landscape. Whether the movie in question happens to be the continuation of a modern film series or the revival of an old and seemingly dead franchise, sequels are here to stay. This state of affairs has had mixed results, with the more detrimental outcomes including franchises ruined by unnecessary sequels to highly anticipated sequels that became major flops despite high expectations. There's also an argument to be made that many are born out of financial motivation, as opposed to a genuine desire to produce a quality film.
In any case, it's fortunate that several standout examples have effortlessly sidestepped the pitfalls associated with the worst sequels of all time, producing an inspired continuation of where the story last left off that rivals or even surpasses the original in terms of quality. It's a trademark of some of the greatest...

For over 30 years, Randy Quaid was one of Hollywood's most colorful and dependable character actors. His career got off to a propitious start with his appearance in Peter Bogdanovich's 1971 classic "The Last Picture Show," and quickly took flight when he earned a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his portrayal of the sensitive, soon-to-be-imprisoned screw-up Meadows in "The Last Detail." 10 years later, Quaid achieved film doofus immortality as the loan-seeking rube Cousin Eddie Johnson in Harold Ramis' "National Lampoon's Vacation." Quaid had been funny in movies before, but now he was a proper drama-comedy double threat, and his brand of performance wasn't the type to curdle. He had a long, profitable journey ahead of him provided he didn't do something crazy like accuse the industry's most powerful people of trying to kill him.
Randy Quaid's downfall was so surreal it felt like performance art like he was playing Cousin Eddie on peyote.

Action aficionados are in for a treat this holiday season, as Jason Statham’s Death Race speeds onto Max starting December 1. The 2008 action thriller, a remake of the cult classic Death Race 2000, which starred Sylvester Stallone and David Carradine, delivers Statham-esque high-octane excitement and intense stakes that fans have come to love from the bald British brutalizer. The movie follows Statham as Jensen Ames, a wrongfully imprisoned speedway champion who’s offered a dangerous deal: compete in a lethal, weaponized car race to earn his freedom or rot behind bars forever. Armed with flamethrowers and grenade launchers, Ames must make his way through a gauntlet of hardened criminals. Let's hope he's got a good Spotify playlist to get through that one.

One of Jason Stathams most underrated action films, Death Race, is coming to streaming in time for the holiday season. So fasten your seat belt and grab your helmet because this car has no protection whatsoever, and Statham doesnt usually use the brakes. The Paul W.S. Anderson action film will land on Max on December 1, according to a Warner Bros. Discovery press release.
As the star of action franchises like Fast & Furious, The Transporter, and The Mechanic, Statham's presence in any action movie usually signals that fans of the genre are in for a good time. Jason Statham's $75 million sci-fi action movie remake is getting a new streaming home in December. Earlier in 2024, Statham enjoyed one of his biggest box office successes in years, when his politically charged, John Wick-inspired action film The Beekeeper unexpectedly took in $152 million worldwide. Statham may now have a new franchise on his hands, as director David Ayer has hinted that The Beekeeper 2 could happen.
Statham has been a reliable action stalwart for years, thanks to films like The Beekeeper, as well as high-profile projects like The Meg and Fast & Furious, and more cult-friendly fare like Crank and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. The star indeed boasts a long filmography filled mostly with action-packed titles, many of which are available on streaming platforms, allowing for at-home exploration of every nook and cranny of Statham's lengthy resume.

Sylvester Stallone cameos are pretty rare, but they sure leave an impact whenever they happen. Stallone was a struggling actor for much of the 1970s, but once he broke through with Rocky, he became one of the biggest stars in the world. From Rocky to the numerous other Stallone action movies that arrived during the 1980s and 1990s, he tended to be first billed every time. That's why Stallone cameos were rare during this era as he largely avoided supporting parts.
In more recent years, Sly has made guest appearances in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequels and Expendables 4 - despite the latter being one of Stallone's major action franchises. Still, there aren't many examples of the star showing up uncredited for a single scene, and the ones that exist are bizarre.
Cannonball! (1976) Directed by Paul Bartel (Eating Raoul)
Before Rocky, Stallone's most famous project was Death Race 2000.

Jason Statham is undeniably one of the silver screen's most celebrated action superstars, and since his dazzling film debut in Guy Ritchie's 1998 black crime comedy Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, he has steadily become one of the most famous faces of the adrenaline-pumping genre. Known for portraying cool, calm, and tough-as-nails characters, Statham has emerged as one of Hollywood's most bankable leading men and his exhilarating movies have grossed more than $1.5 billion while also attracting a passionate fanbase along the way.
Statham has starred in a slew of big budget extravaganzas throughout his impressive cinema career, appearing in popular flicks like the Transporter trilogy, The Mechanic, The Expendables, and the enduring Fast & Furious franchise (to name just a few). The 1970s was a huge decade for cinema. In 1975, Steven Spielberg's Jaws hit theaters in June after being delayed for several months. Originally, Jaws was supposed to be a Christmas release, but due to complications with production (like the mechanical shark constantly breaking), the film was delayed. Jaws wasn't expected to do well due to the summer release date, but Jaws sold so many tickets that it single-handedly created the summer blockbuster phenomenon.
Jaws isn't the only iconic film to come out of the 1970s, though. The '70s gave birth to Halloween's (1978) Michael Myers and Alien's (1979) xenomorph. This decade saw rapid advancement in what could be accomplished for convincing movies. It also had an abundance of cheesy movies that were as iconic as they were cringey. Movies like Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) go down in cinema history as some of the funniest and cheesiest movies ever made.

Critics may not have been fond of this 1980s Chuck Norris Western, but it's one of my guilty pleasures. Norris was part of a wave of action stars to emerge during the 1970s and 1980s, with his roundhouse kicks and trademark beard becoming part of his star persona. The '80s featured some of Chuck Norris' best action movies like the Missing in Action trilogy or, my personal favorite, Code of Silence, but his film career faltered by the time the 1990s arrived. While Norris had a compelling look, he just wasn't that great of an actor.
That's why his most successful movies leaned on his physicality and cut way back on his dialogue. His appearance in The Expendables 2 really exposed this, as the veteran star badly fumbles his own Chuck Norris joke meme. Despite his limits as a performer, I still think Norris made some gems in his career,...

While the movie industry today can feel overloaded with a litany of unnecessary sequels, some directors have refused to come back for a follow-up film. Despite overwhelming audience interest in seeing more of a particular story or characters, certain filmmakers have stood their ground and decided that they did not feel the need to make another movie just because viewers were clamoring for more. This rare commitment to artistry deserves praise, as the only real reason a sequel should be made is if it had a story that truly needed to be told.
Many of the best directors voiced their opposition to sequels being made of their most famous movies and have actively stood in the way of studios producing follow-up films. While the rights to a movie can often be out of a directors hands, which can lead to countless terrible movie sequels and franchises that should never have been greenlit,...

The best martial arts TV shows all feature their version of high-octane action sequences, fighting choreography, and commanding performances from their leads that combine together to create a compelling series. The star doesn't just need to give a compelling performance with his dialogue but also demonstrate legitimate martial arts skills and the physicality needed to pull off the sequences. The best shows will seamlessly combine all the elements to create an entertaining series that doesn't really focus too much on the narrative or the action but creates a balance of both.

The 1990s proved a turbulent time for Sylvester Stallone's career after the highly successful decade that was the 1980s. As the cinematic landscape shifted and action films developed, he found himself picking roles either too similar to previous outings or too dissimilar. Whether it be his often maligned comedies or his attempts to recapture the success of Stallone's best films like First Blood or the previous Rocky movies.
There are still plenty of gems to be found in his work throughout the decade, with some of his best acting on display. He has always had an inconsistent track record with the projects he has picked every decade. Varying from highs like Creed to low points like Rhinestone, but no matter what, Stallone has remained a towering figure in blockbuster cinema. Good or bad, there is rarely a boring Stallone project and many of these movies prove that.

Whatever moved Eminem to actually finish and release his new album, it couldn’t have been the money. It wasn’t to add to his fame, which is already secure. It’s not because he had anything to say, any news to share, any opinions or feelings or (please) ideas. It’s not even to remind people he’s an amazing performer, since he already did that at the Super Bowl a couple of years ago. No, it’s probably simpler than that — he’s a sensitive soul, and he needs validation.

When the Roger Corman-produced "Death Race 2000" was released in 1975, the film earned a poor critical reception. Major criticisms included a lack of depth in terms of its themes of anarchy and rebellion, with its campy entertainment factor not being enough to offset its overt sleaziness. However, just like every film that's gone on to attain cult status, "Death Race 2000" underwent critical reappraisal over the years and is now deemed a cult classic -- one whose indulgent and excessive violence has emerged as one of its strengths.
A sequel to "Death Race 2000," titled "Death Race 2050," wasn't made until 2017. However, there's more: Paul W. S. Twenty years ago, Kill Bill: Vol. 2 made quite the splash when it reached theaters. Quentin Tarantino movies always do. Some folks basked in its trenchant, loquacious splendor, marveling at how the most grandiose and blood-soaked depiction of vengeance yet in a Qt joint could ultimately boil down to a custody dispute between two parents sitting across a table. Others criticized its grittier, more intimate concerns as a letdown following the severed-head glory of Kill Bill: Vol 1… and, finally, there were even those who simply couldn’t get over that amusingly cynical thesis about Superman which the titular Bill drops right before the end of the flick.
If you don’t recall, the scene comes after David Carradine’s antagonist tranquilized Beatrix Kiddo, aka the Bride (Uma Thurman), with enough drugs to force her to listen to a long conversation. But then in Tarantino movies, they’re all long conversations.
