American Rust has been cancelled once again after having been rescued by Prime Video for season 2. Created by Dan Futterman, and based on Philipp Meyers debut novel of the same name, the adaptation takes place in a small town. It follows the chief of police Del Harris as he takes on an investigation that finds the son of the woman he loves accused of murder. The American Rust cast includes Jeff Daniels, Maura Tierney, David Alvarez, Alex Neustaedter, Julie Mayorga, Mark Pellegrino, Rob Yang, and Kyle Beltran.

Now, Deadline confirms that Prime Video will not be moving forward with American Rust season 3, as the crime drama has been cancelled after two seasons.

Amazon Prime Video has opted not to move forward with a third season of the series, Variety has confirmed. Amazon had picked up a second season of the series after it was canceled at its original network home, Showtime, in January 2022. It was originally slated to air on Freevee before it was shifted to Prime Video. All 10 episodes of the second season dropped on March 28.

The first season of the show was based on the Philipp Meyer novel of the same name. After the sudden, mysterious death of a former police officer in Pennsylvania’s rust belt in the rookie season is not quite solved by Harris, to say the least, the second-season trailer for American Rust: Broken Justice returns to the fictional town of Buell, where a compromised Del and Grace Poe (Maura Tierney) try to rebuild their lives.

That’s until the trailer reveals a series of unrelated murders that may add up to a much larger conspiracy closing in on a tight-knit town. “We never really do move on, do we?” Del questions at one point.

The fateful wrench from the first-season finale cover-up surfaces, as does Del fretting over how to protect the murder suspect and son of his sometimes girlfriend Grace.

Ang Lee has cast his son Mason Lee to play the iconic Chinese-American martial artist and actor Bruce Lee in Sony’s 3000 Pictures’ new biopic.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker has reportedly been working on the film Bruce Lee quietly for a long time. There have been different versions of scripts from four writers before the most recent one by Dan Futterman who’s the Oscar-nominated Capote screenwriter.

“Accepted as neither fully American nor fully Chinese, Bruce Lee was a bridge between East and West who introduced Chinese kung fu to the world, a scientist of combat and an iconic performing artist who revolutionized both the martial arts and action cinema,” said Ang Lee in a statement. “I feel compelled to tell the story of this brilliant, unique human being who yearned for belonging, possessed tremendous power in a 135-pound-frame, and who, through tireless hard work, made impossible dreams into reality.”

The film, titled Bruce Lee, is currently in development, with Dan Futterman attached to the project as a screenwriter.

Having seen big success with the martial arts epic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon more than two decades ago, director Ang Lee is now planning a film about one of the masters of screen combat: Bruce Lee. And he hasn't had to look too far for a star, casting his son Mason Lee in the lead.

According to Deadline, Ang and Mason have been planning this one for the last few years, with the latter committing to an extensive training programme through lockdown and beyond to get into fighting shape.

Bruce Lee, of course, needs little introduction as an icon of cinema and a Chinese-American groundbreaker who still faced racism and obstacles even as he became a global star. And, of course, he died shockingly young at 32, just before Enter The Dragon cemented his breakthrough.

Martial arts legend Bruce Lee is getting the biopic treatment. Oscar-winner Ang Lee is set to direct a film about the late actor, simply titled "Bruce Lee," for Sony's 3000 Pictures. What's more, the filmmaker has actually tapped his own son, Mason Lee ("The Hangover Part II") to star as the Hollywood icon in the upcoming biopic, making it a high-profile family affair.

According to Deadline, Dan Futterman ("Foxcatcher") is currently working on the script, a script that has already passed through many hands up to this point. Lee, in addition to direction, will produce alongside the likes of Lawrence Grey, Shannon Lee, Ben Everard, and Brian Bell, with Elizabeth Gabler and Marisa Paiva overseeing the project for the studio. Bruce Lee’s daughter Shannon Lee will produce the film, which is untitled for now, along with Ang Lee, Lawrence Grey of Grey Matter Productions, Ben Everard and Brian Bell. 3000 Pictures’ Elizabeth Gabler and Marisa Paiva will oversee the project on behalf of the studio. They previously collaborated on Lee’s 2012 film “Life Of Pi.”

Amazon Freevee has come to the rescue for American Rust. Amazon’s free ad-supported VOD streaming service (formerly IMDb TV) has ordered a second season of the Rust Belt drama series that was canceled by Showtime in January. Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney are returning to lead the cast.

American Rust initially was ordered straight-to-series at USA Network in November 2017, but a few months later, the network opted not to move forward with it. At the time, sources said the order was contingent on the producers finding a big star for the lead, which didn’t happen. It then moved to Showtime, with Daniels attached to star and executive produce, where it aired for one season. The network announced in January that it would not be renewed, and now Freevee has picked up the drama following its cancellation by Showtime. The show will stream exclusively on Freevee.
