This post contains spoilers for the "Fullmetal Alchemist" franchise.
"Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" endures as one of the most beloved anime ever made, and with its recent return to Netflix, there's no better time for Fullmetal novices to take the plunge.
Set during an alternate history's 1910s in the German-ish country Amestris, "Fullmetal Alchemist" stars the eponymous Edward Elric. He and his little brother Alphonse are on a quest to find the Philosopher's Stone. After they tried to use alchemy to bring their mother back to life, Edward lost an arm and leg while Al's soul was trapped in a suit of armor. The Stone can bypass alchemy's equivalent exchange principle -- that to gain, you must give up something.
On their journey, the Elrics stumble onto a sinister conspiracy masterminded by a group of homunculi, or alchemically-created humans. Dressed all in black, these homunculi each embody one of the seven deadly sins that their Father,...

James Marsden is looking to make his biopic debut — and has his sights set on Mickey Blue Eyes.
“Paradise” actor Marsden told The Post that he aspires to portray Frank Sinatra onscreen in a feature similar to Oscar-winning 2004 Ray Charles biopic “Ray.”
“To do a biopic like what Jamie Foxx did with Ray Charles would be a lot of fun,” Marsden said. “I would love to. And you’re actually using your singing voice, as well.”
Marsden previously sang in 2007 films “Enchanted” and “Hairspray,” the latter of which Marsden deemed to be like a “Broadway show” to film. He added that “Hairspray” was a “joyous” production akin to attending a “party.” Perhaps a Sinatra biopic could be the same.
“I’ve always loved emulating some of the old crooners, like Bobby Darin and Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin,” Marsden said of potentially playing Sinatra. “I always thought there were so...

Leonardo DiCaprio has spent years delivering one stellar performance after another, yet for the longest time, the Oscars kept slipping through his fingers. It wasn’t until The Revenant that he finally took home the gold, but let’s be honest, his vast library of work with Martin Scorsese alone could have earned him one ages ago.

Now, the iconic actor-director duo is showing no signs of slowing down. Because, out of DiCaprio’s six upcoming films, four are with Scorsese! Safe to say, the filmmaker isn’t letting go of his favorite leading man anytime soon.
Why DiCaprio-Scorsese fans are in for a treat!
From the very start of his career, Leonardo DiCaprio has been a force to be reckoned with, and that fact still stands true to this day! If a movie has his name on it, one thing is for sure,...

Conspiracy theories are rampant in modern Hollywood, with internet weirdos claiming that Avril Lavigne died and was replaced with a lookalike, Beyonce runs the Illuminati, Logan Paul is a talented performer, etc. But viewers back in the day didn’t need the internet to be weird. Conspiracy theories were just as prevalent in Old Hollywood, there just weren't any subreddits to share them on.
5 James Dean Faked His Death
Rumors of faked death have plagued everyone from Elvis to Tupac, but they go back at least as far as James Dean, whose fans immediately refused to believe he really perished in a 1955 car crash. The car, which was put on display by its new owner, wasn’t damaged enough to have withstood a deadly crash, they insisted, so he must have been either disfigured to the point of being hidden by the studio or used the accident as an excuse...

There can be no question the Broadway musicals of John Kander and Fred Ebb have been charmed when it comes to movie adaptations. Bob Fosse’s 1972 film reinvention of Cabaret won eight Oscars. Director Rob Marshall and screenwriter Bill Condon’s cinematic interpretation of Chicago in 2002 is still the last musical to win the Best Picture Oscar. Both made the musical format work, even for those who hate movie musicals, by integrating the songs so they don’t collide with the narrative but seamlessly fit in with it.
It’s nice to report that the stunning new film adaptation of their 1993 Tony-winning musical Kiss of the Spider Woman joins Cabaret and Chicago as a master class in how to find the cinematic soul of...

Exclusive: Bill Condon brings Kiss of the Spider Woman to Sundance for the Sunday night Eccles Theater premiere of the festival’s most eagerly anticipated acquisition title, starring Jennifer Lopez, Diego Luna and newcomer Tonatiuh. It has been 27 years since Condon redefined himself after premiering Gods and Monsters at Sundance, 32 years since Kiss of the Spider Woman opened on Broadway and won seven Tony Awards, and 40 years since the original Hector Babenco-directed film drew four Oscar nominations with the late William Hurt winning Best Actor. Condon has written and directed a compelling new version of a tale that is one part vibrant movie musical, and one part prison drama.
Given the recent wildfires in Southern California and the usual wariness that goes into acquiring indie films, it’s no surprise the Sundance market has gotten off to a slow start. But many hope things will open up after Kiss...

I've recently been on a disaster movie kick. Perhaps it's because everything seems a little bleak right now. Or perhaps I just needed something brainless to watch — disaster movies can be fun, but let's be honest: they're not exactly high art. As I went from one disaster movie to another, a curious theme began to arise. In addition to these films all following a similar set-up, in which we see famous landmarks and buildings completely obliterated by destruction, they also all seem to share a similar plot element: the hero/main character is almost always going through a divorce or separation, or already divorced from their spouse. And in almost every case, the impending disaster ends up rekindling that seemingly dead relationship.
This got me thinking: is there any sort of deeper meaning here? Speaking from experience, I can tell you the act of divorce can seem like world-ending event...

Ava Gardner was one of the great movie stars of the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s, Her smouldering good looks often cast her in the role of seductress. And her three high-profile marriages only reinforced that public perception of the actress.
After a number of bit parts for MGM in the early 1940s, Gardner broke through with a sensational performance in 1946’s “The Killers” which truly launched her film stardom. As her craft evolved over the years, she became an esteemed actress, earning a Best Actress Oscar nomination for 1953’s “Mogambo” and a Golden Globe nom for 1964’s “The Night of the Iguana,” as well as four BAFTA nominations.
So let’s celebrate her life by looking back at and ranking the 12 greatest films of Gardner. Our photo gallery also includes “Showboat,” “The Killers” plus the movies mentioned in this article. Which one do you think is in our #1 overall spot?...

It’s been close to eight decades since two atomic bombs annihilated the Japanese cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, the only times nuclear weapons have been used in warfare. And in these seventy years, we have learned a lot about the irreparable human costs of nuclear holocaust and the long-lasting hazards of radiation exposure. Yet, the chance of a warring nation deflecting the use of such a weapon in extreme measures couldn’t be deemed impossible. The dark clouds of Cold War may have long perished, but power-hungry governments all over the world tend to toy with their nuclear weaponry. With Ican (International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons) winning the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize, the need to recognize the catastrophic consequences of these deadly weapons has only drawn more attention.
For decades, Cinema has done its duty in questioning the blood-lust-driven establishment on its nuclear activities despite its claims to the contrary.

Hollywood has seen its fair share of feuds, but few can rival the fiery clash between Sharon Stone and Billy Baldwin. Behind the scenes, this rift was born from both personal and professional tensions. Like a movie script gone wrong, the conflict simmered for years before reaching the boiling point.
Sharon Stone and William Baldwin in Sliver (1993) | Credit: Paramount Pictures
The roots of their dispute stretch back to 1993, when both actors starred in Sliver, a film directed by Phillip Noyce. Known for its steamy scenes and intensity, the thriller was as much about the drama off-camera as it was on.
But what really fueled the fire was a shocking suggestion from Sliver’s producer, Robert Evans. But the story doesn’t end with Stone’s words. Enter Daniel Baldwin, Billy’s brother, who took to The Tonight Show to air his grievances about Sharon Stone’s alleged unprofessional behavior during the film’s production.

Legendary filmmaker Paul Schrader reveals why a biopic of Frank Sinatra has yet to happen and what controversial actor he wanted to play Ol' Blue Eyes. Schrader is one of the most prolific names in Hollywood, having written the screenplays for Taxi Driver and The Last Temptation of Christ and directing critically acclaimed films like Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters, Affliction, and First Reformed, to name just a few. At one point, a script for a Frank Sinatra biopic crossed his desk, and he briefly considered it, but his casting choice and potential conflicts with the Sinatra estate seemed to put a quick end to that, a fate he shares with former collaborator Martin Scorsese.
Paul Schrader sat down with MovieWeb to discuss his latest film, Oh, Canada. Schrader mentioned the Sinatra biopic he was supposedly working on, but he cleared up one misconception. "I never worked on it.

Kelly got her start performing onstage and in television before being drafted by Hollywood to appear in Henry Hathaway‘s ripped-from-the-headlines nail-biter “Fourteen Hours” (1951) when she was just 22-years-old. Frank Sinatra’s career was the highlight of mid-20th century Hollywood when he ruled the hearts and cinema screens with his inescapable aura and soulful baritone. The actor-cum-singer left an everlasting legacy that’s hard to match, which is why a film based on him, courtesy of legendary director Martin Scorsese, has faced so many delays.

Despite closing in on his 82nd birthday in November, revered Hollywood filmmaker Martin Scorsese insists his days behind the camera are far from over. The Oscar-winning director claims he has "no intention" of retiring after The Life of Jesus and his upcoming Frank Sinatra biopic.
Speaking with World of Reel, Scorsese clarified his future when asked about his plans at the National Museum of Cinema, where he was honored on Oct. 7. According to Scorsese, he's hoping he has enough "strength and money" to finish his Jesus and Sinatra movies and wants to continue working until he's no longer able. I have no intention of retiring, Scorsese said. The film about Frank Sinatra is only postponed while the one about Jesus I am working on. I hope God gives me the strength and money to finish them."

Film director Martin Scorsese put rumors of retiring to rest recently. The 81-year-old director spoke at the National Museum of Cinema in Turin, Italy. There, he addressed speculation about stepping away from filmmaking.
“I have no plans to retire,” Scorsese stated clearly. The acclaimed director wants to continue creating movies. His comments come after two upcoming projects were delayed. But Scorsese explained the projects are still in development with adjusted timelines.
Some wondered if Scorsese would retire after a biopic on singer Frank Sinatra and a film about Jesus were postponed. The Sinatra movie has been in development for 15 years. It may star Leonardo DiCaprio as Sinatra and Jennifer Lawrence as Ava Gardner. Securing rights from Sinatra’s estate has caused challenges.

Martin Scorsese addresses the retirement rumors after his two films stalled production. Scorsese is the legendary director behind movies like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Departed, The Wolf of Wall Street, and at 81 years old, recently delivered one of the best films of his career in Killers of the Flower Moon. Shortly after, Scorsese had two more movies in development The Life of Jesus and a Frank Sinatra biopic, both of which were recently postponed, leading to speculation that Scorsese might retire.
Now, shortly after his two planned films were postponed, the legendary director has addressed the rumors that he might retire. During a press conference at the Museum of Cinema in Turin, Italy (via The Hollywood Reporter), Scorsese debunked rumors of his retirement, saying that he has more movies to make and hopes he has the strength to continue working. Read his full response below:

When it was announced that two high-profile Martin Scorsese films – one a biopic of Frank Sinatra, the other on Jesus – were being postponed, it led people to wonder what exactly was going on, with some thoughts leading the mind to consider: Is Martin Scorsese retiring? Well, Marty is here to tell you that he doesn’t plan on going anywhere.
Appearing at the Museum of Cinema in Turin, Martin Scorsese told the crowd, “I’m not saying goodbye to cinema at all. I still have more films to make, and I hope God gives me the strength to make them.” Ok, so that whole “gives me the strength” statement does feel a bit uneasy, but considering the level of passion and drive that Scorsese still has – the guy released a three-and-a-half hour epic just last year, the same he turned 81 – we really don’t have any reason to worry.

‘Tis the season to draw viewing inspiration from all things Halloween, and haunted houses are one of the key staples of the holiday. And for good reason, too, as few things are as inherently terrifying as an invasion of the very place where you’re meant to feel safest: your home.
Dealing with a paranormal presence isn’t quite as easy to deal with as masked maniacs or a more tangible threat. It’s often a fear of the unknown that induces the most nerve-fraying anxiety, and a haunted house is full of unknowns. This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to one of horror’s most foundational subgenres: the haunted house movie.
These five titles range from classic haunted house fare to modern frights that reinterpret what a haunted house can be. All aim to induce maximum frights, perfect for this Halloween season.
Here’s where you can stream them this week.

The 1970s were a phenomenal decade for horror movies, but not every great scary film from the era has gotten its just desserts. From The Exorcist to the original Alien, the 70s were responsible for the genesis of some of the greatest horror movies of all time, creating franchise after franchise of blood-curdling stories. Yet the same era still offers many more films that have yet to get the widespread recognition they deserve as phenomenal masterpieces of the genre, going relatively unknown even today.
It's hard to say why these hidden gems were never able to reap the same benefits that the most iconic 70s horror films did. Like many of these peers, these films channeled the turbulent political climate of the time through some striking new visual effects capabilities and cinematic techniques to create ambitious works of art, projecting sheer terror onto their meager audiences. After Killers of the Flower Moon, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio's next movie collaboration was set to be a homerun, yet recent news hints that the movie may never happen, just like another Scorsese collab. From movies like Goodfellas to The Departed, Martin Scorsese has become the type of director where audiences anticipate their next project. Whatever it is Scorsese has planned, there is a good chance it will be a hit. However, despite his success, Scorsese is just as susceptible to development issues as any other director. Therefore, some of his best ideas may never hit the big screen.
One particularly exciting idea that Scorsese revealed during an interview with Variety was a biopic about Frank Sinatra. Sinatra was a beloved and well-known singer throughout the mid-20th century, who originated songs such as My Way, Fly Me To The Moon, and That's Life. Notably, Scorsese already had...

Martin Scorsese was set to film two movies back to back, but they have since been postponed. Scorsese is one of the most acclaimed and influential filmmakers of all time, and he just earned his tenth Academy Award nomination for Best Director for 2023's Killers of the Flower Moon. His following two films were set to be passion projects the director had been working on for a while, a Frank Sinatra biopic and an adaptation of Shsaku Ends 1973 novel The Life of Jesus. Both projects seem to have hit a major roadblock.
According to Variety, Scorsese was planning to film The Life of Jesus and Frank Sinatra biopics back to back starting this year, but both projects have since been delayed indefinitely. After bagging 10 Oscar nominations for last year's monumental three-plus-hour epic Killers Of The Flower Moon, you'd be forgiven for thinking that when Martin Scorsese wants to make a movie, that movie just gets made. But after revealing plans for religious picture The Life Of Jesus last year, and then the realisation of a long-planned Frank Sinatra biopic with Leonardo DiCaprio earlier this year, Marty's hopes to shoot both projects back-to-back have been put on hold. Per Variety's reporting, neither project will be setting cameras rolling in 2024 any more, and new production plans are yet to be confirmed.
Having already made one ripping biblical yarn in the shape of The Last Temptation Of Christ, Scorsese had hoped to acquiesce to the Pope's call for more Christianity centred art with an adaptation of Shūsaku Endō’s 1973 novel The Life Of Jesus. This would've been Scorsese's second Endō adaptation following 2016's Silence, with...

A Martin Scorsese movie is always something to look forward to, but Variety reports that his next two projects have unfortunately been delayed. Martin Scorsese planned to shoot two movies back-to-back this year, including The Life of Jesus, based on Shūsaku Endō’s 1973 novel, and a biopic about Frank Sinatra.
Variety’s report states that both these projects have been postponed, with neither to be filmed this year. The Life of Jesus was expected to be up first, although there’s been nothing officially announced regarding the cast. That said, Andrew Garfield, who starred in Scorsese’s Silence, was rumoured to be eyeing the film. The project is still in development, with Scorsese hoping to shoot the film in Israel, Italy, and Egypt. Earlier this year, the director said he was still figuring it out. “I’m contemplating it right now,” Scorsese said. “What kind of film I’m not quite sure,...

Martin Scorsese, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind some of cinema’s most iconic works, had planned to begin shooting two highly anticipated films back-to-back this year. One was a biblical epic, “The Life of Jesus,” based on Shūsaku Endō’s 1973 novel, and the other was a biopic about legendary singer Frank Sinatra. However, Variety has learned that both projects have been postponed, and neither will be filmed this year.
Scorsese’s “The Life of Jesus” was expected to be the first of the two projects to go into production. Although no official cast has been announced, one source with direct knowledge tells Variety the film is still in development. Scorsese is committed to making the movie about the Christian leader, which he is reportedly financing independently. He took a similar approach to his 2016 epic drama “Silence,” also adapted from an Endō novel. The filmmaker hoped to shoot in Israel, Italy, and Egypt,...

Jennifer Lawrence's upcoming project with Scorsese, Die, My Love, aligns perfectly with her best performances. Lawrence shines in roles of struggling female protagonists, mirroring her past successes in complex characters. Collaborating with Scorsese could lead Lawrence to follow in the footsteps of DiCaprio as a favorite actor for the legendary director.
Although Jennifer Lawrence is lined up to star in Martin Scorsese's highly anticipated Frank Sinatra biopic, this film isn't even the most exciting project coming from the actor-director duo. In 2012, Jennifer Lawrence dazzled Hollywood by taking on the title role in The Hunger Games franchise. Throughout the 2010s, Lawrence continued racking up roles alongside notable actors and directors such as Bradley Cooper, David O. Russell, and Darren Aronofsky. What would happen if Raymond Chandler and H.P. Lovecraft wrote a novel together? Comic series "Fatale" by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips offers an answer. Published from 2012 to 2014 across 24 issues at Image Comics, "Fatale" is named for the archetype every film noir needs: the femme fatale, the sultry knockout who wraps men around her fingers without a care for what happens to their twisted forms (phallic cigarette optional).
The center of "Fatale" is one such woman, named Josephine or simply Jo. Colorists David Stewart and Elizabeth Breitweiser give her blood red lips and hair as black as Ava Gardner. Is her raven hair the same shade as her heart? Not quite. You see, Jo simply can't help making men desire and chase after her — especially men who want her for an occult sacrifice. Some of Steve Martin's best films are underrated and relatively unheard of, showcasing his versatile talents beyond comedy franchises. Titles like Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid and Shopgirl highlight Martin's nuanced humor and ability to tackle complex characters in underappreciated films. The Killers is one of the best crime movies of the 1940s, with a 100% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. Hemingway's ability to master large ideas in brief stories is evident in The Killers. The 1946 film version adds mystery and suspense to Hemingway's story, making it a worthwhile and gripping watch.
In the 1940s, famous author Ernest Hemingway had one of his short stories adapted into a movie, and though this film has incredible ratings, it still doesn't have the reputation it deserves. Ernest Hemingway is a prolific writer from the 1920s to the 1950s. His writings, which are famously sparse and understated, remain classics in the literary world. Some of his most famous novels include A Farewell to Arms, The Old Man and the Sea, and The Sun Also Rises. Hemingway's distinct style still impacts literature, and his stories live on today, both on the page and on the screen.

The concept of good vs. evil is at the heart of almost every movie ever made, but how that antagonistic force takes shape always varies. We can look at certain genres, such as superhero films or horror movies, and envision what a villain looks like. Sometimes they'll wield a knife or an axe, or perhaps they'll attempt to destroy the world to gain incalculable power. But arguably some of the most terrifying antagonists in films can't be visualized in the same way, because they all emanate from nature; if nothing else, they become so much more terrifying specifically because you can't reason with these antagonists and they have no sentience like human beings.

O’Brien played sleazy show biz publicist Oscar Muldoon in 1954’s “The Barefoot Contessa,” which starred Humphrey Bogart and Ava Gardner. Bogart had been crowned Best Actor of 1951 for “The African Queen,” and had also contended for the same award for 1943’s Best Picture, “Casablanca.” Gardner was coming off of her first and only nomination, for Best Actress in 1953’s “Mogambo.” “The Barefoot Contessa” was written and directed by Academy favorite Joseph L. ”The Barefoot Contessa” didn’t fare quite as well at the Oscars as “Letter” or “Eve.” Neither Bogart or Gardner received nominations, though Bogart was cited for his role in that same year’s Best Picture entry “The Caine Mutiny.

Paul Schrader has often landed himself in controversies with his anti-political correctness takes. There have been instances when Schrader was asked to back down from social media during his film’s release. Paul Schrader has spoken with Kevin Spacey about the actor starring in a Frank Sinatra biopic, despite multiple allegations still flanking the actor. Spacey is facing a civil trial in the U.K. in 2025 over allegations for which he was acquitted there in a criminal court last year. A new U.K. docuseries airing on Channel 4 also features claims of sexual offenses by the actor from 10 men.
Writer/director Schrader told Variety that he has been in contact with Spacey about him portraying an elderly Sinatra for a film.
“Cancel culture won’t let him go,” Schrader said of Spacey, citing that the actor was acquitted of sexually assaulting four men in 2023. “He’s reading a book on how Charlie Chaplin was canceled.”

Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese have collaborated 6 times over the years. The director-actor duo have never repeated themselves and have constantly worked on reinventing themselves each time. From historical epics, crime dramas, to psychological thrillers, the two have become the ideal pairing that can do no wrong.
Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street
One of their wild collaborations was the 2013 biographical black comedy film The Wolf of Wall Street. One of the craziest scenes from the film was a lion casually walking through the Stratton Oakmont firm in the presence of office workers. While Scorsese did use a real lion and real people for the scene, a brilliant strategy was used to seamlessly blend them together.

DiCaprio and Lawrence's onscreen dynamics change from teacher-student to lovers, creating potential discomfort for audiences. The age gap between DiCaprio and Lawrence is significantly larger than that of Sinatra and Gardner, raising questions about their dynamic. The casting of DiCaprio and Lawrence may unintentionally overshadow Scorsese's long-standing passion project with real-life implications.
Jennifer Lawrence's role in Martin Scorsese's upcoming biopic Sinatra feels much more awkward because of her role in a hit 2021 comedy opposite co-star Leonardo DiCaprio. As two of the most acclaimed and decorated actors of the past few decades, the prospect of seeing DiCaprio and Lawrence on screen together is a tantalizing prospect. However, because of the pair's dynamic in a previous film, their roles in Scorsese's anticipated movie may be somewhat compromised.
