Rarely do shows become even bigger after their original run, but Suits has enjoyed such success. The legal drama series received an immense surge in popularity after it became available for streaming on Netflix and Peacock. Data from Nielsen reveals that the New York-set show was watched for a total of57.7 billion minutes on Netflix in 2023, making it the most-streamed series that year. As expected, NBCUniversal began thinking of expansion. The studio developed a new spin-off series, titled Suits LA, starring Stephen Amell (better known for his work in Arrow), which is currently airing.
Regrettably, Suits LA hasn’t been a major hit with critics. The offshoot currently has a 37% Rotten Tomatoes score, while the parent had 91%. That’s something to worry about, but things can always change. A few characters from the original are rumored to show up down the line, so the quality might improve. In the meantime,...

One of the last movies of the late Gene Hackman has entered the Netflix Top 10 Global Movies chart 22 years after its initial release. Hackman was one of the most revered and successful actors in movie history, and enjoyed a strong filmography, which included a diverse mix of both blockbusters and character-driven dramas. He shot to prominence with early roles in movies like Bonnie and Clyde and I Never Sang For My Father before achieving global recognition and leading man status with the role of Popeye Doyle in William Friedkin's crime thriller The French Connection.
Hackman won an Oscar for his performance and reprised his role in the follow-up The French Connection II. He then went on to star in a number of successful and critically acclaimed box office hits, including Superman, Superman II, Mississippi Burning, and Unforgiven, for which he won his second Oscar. The recent death of Gene Hackman has prompted many cinephiles to revisit their favorite films featuring the two-time Academy Award-winning actor -- though, really, regardless of what's going on in the world, any movie lover worth their weight in celluloid is never far removed from watching a Hackman flick because the man made so many classic, rewatchable pictures. The most valuable thing we can do as film buffs right now is to turn younger cinephiles on to the man's multitude of brilliant performers, because some of these kids were born after his 2004 retirement from acting.
For those just becoming acquainted with Hackman, it's important to understand that there's no ideal way to watch his movies. You can throw a dart at Hackman's filmography, and even if you hit a lousy movie like "Loose Cannons" or "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace," you're at least going to get Hackman being an...

For a moment in the 1990s, adapting a John Grisham novel into a movie was akin to printing money. It all started with "The Firm," a film that had the good fortune of coming along just as its leading man, Tom Cruise, was really hitting his stride that decade thanks to "A Few Good Men." Of course, it helped that the 1993 legal thriller also paired Tommy C with the dream team of director Sydney Pollack, writer Robert Towne, and a killer supporting cast featuring Jeanne Tripplehorn, Ed Harris, Holly Hunter, Wilford Brimley, and the ever-on-point Gene Hackman.
(Fun fact: "The Firm" is also the flick Aubrey Plaza's character is watching as she practices her meat-beating skills in "The To Do List." If having your movie serve as the punchline in a teen sex romp isn't something all filmmakers aspire to, then I dunno what we're even doing.)

Runaway Jury currently sits at number seven in the United States and in the Netflix top 10 worldwide.

The path that a successful book can take from being adapted for film to becoming a TV show is a well-trodden one. Such fine examples of this include Westworld, the futuristic sci-fi drama by Michael Crichton; The Handmaid's Tale, first adapted into a 1990 filmbefore its highly successful run as a TV show; and The Lincoln Lawyer, the book by Michael Connelly, first adapted as a film starring Matthew McConaugheybefore moving to television with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo in the front seat. The latest and most exciting addition to this canon is The Rainmaker, the 1995 legal drama by all-conquering author John Grisham that was adapted for film in 1997. Its television series is expected to come out in 2025, and it has a tough job on its hands following the film. Directed by none other than Francis Ford Coppola, the film has an all-star cast led by Matt Damon. Many of Grisham's novels have been adapted for cinema,...

The film world has woken up to a tragedy today with the news that legendary actor Gene Hackman has been found dead alongside his wife, Betsy Arakawa, at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. For decades, Gene Hackman has been a household name when it comes to brilliant villain actors who have captured the imagination of the audiences. Hackman's critically acclaimed career spanned six decades, and he portrayed more than his fair share of iconic characters on screen. After all, he was Lex Luthor and also played one of the best cinematic heavies as Little Bill in Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven. However, one of his more underappreciated roles was in a John Grisham adaptation. In 2003's Runaway Jury, Hackman plays Rankin Fitch, an intelligent and shady jury consultant who is trying to sway the verdict that could potentially bring down the entire arms industry in the U.S. In one of his finest roles,...

As always, Netflix brings the goods with the arrival of the new month. There aren't any new blockbusters on the schedule today; those are coming later this month. But a lot of great movies and shows hit the screen today.
Yeah, that's not exactly the best sales pitch, I know. But there's no shortage of star power, both in front and behind the camera. Ewan McGregor, Gene Hackman, Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, John Cusack, Rachel Weisz, Benicio del Toro, and Harrison Ford star, while filmmakers like Ridley Scott, Denis Villeneuve, and Taylor Sheridan craft the vision.
There are several modern classics on the bill, including a trio that are regarded as some of the best of their respective genres. Crime drama, science fiction, and war movies all get their due today. There are some originals, to be sure. A pair of anime series make their Netflix debut, as well as a Korean rom-com romance series.

It’s far from his first rodeo, dating all the way back to the mid ‘90s, with his astounding, malicious, and vulnerable performance as a teen on a murder trial. Primal Fear stars Richard Gerealongside Norton and Laura Linney. It's a quintessential '90s legal thriller that was a genre that was booming at the time, thanks to the likes of successful John Grisham adaptations like The Firmand The Pelican Brief. Primal Fear, though, is even darker, and in large part thanks to Norton.

Author John Grisham has turned his legal experience into a host of best-selling novels, many of which have become television series and movies. Feature films based on Grisham's work have grossed hundreds of millions of dollars at the domestic box office alone, attesting to his widespread appeal.

Shark Tank has been around for a considerable time on television. The reality television series catering to the business market has shown great promise and potential for entrepreneurs over the years but in the post-Covid era, audiences have begun to grow somewhat wary of the show’s narrative structure.

A major arc of Shark Tank in recent years is presented as market placement for AI, a feature that has already led Hollywood to simmer through an insurgency in 2023. Moreover, post-Covid era presentations on Tank are largely oriented toward key buzzword pitches.
As a result, the reality show has grown increasingly artificial and insufferable for viewers who want to see entrepreneurs from all walks of life finding success with their innovative new ideas and rising to fulfill their American Dream.

Can you believe the likes of veteran legend Gene Hackman appearing in a blockbuster movie and yet being left off of the posters? No, right! But what if we tell you that the actor once had to take the high road in Tom Cruise’s movie, where his request for above-the-title billing was denied by Paramount?

The Oscar-winning star of Oppenheimer has worked his way up through the industry, flitting effortlessly between the silver screen, stage, and television. He has appeared in almost every genre thinkable; he's appeared in enormous blockbusters like Inception and The Dark Knight Trilogy as the suave, intellectual, wily man who wouldn't look out of place in a John Grisham legal thriller. But he's also known for niche productions like his roles as a haunted survivor and everyman in the horror film 28 Days Later and as an impassionated solider fighting for Ireland's freedom in the Palme d'Or-winning, The Wind That Shakes the Barley.

The film stands in second place on the streaming service at the time of this writing. Tubi is a free streaming service where audiences can enjoy more than 250,000 titles on the platform. Tom Holland was confirmed for a role in Christopher Nolan’s next collaboration with Universal Pictures in October. It was revealed in December that Nolan’s film would be an adaptation of Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey. While things were going smoothly for the film, a recent report that Holland would be the lead has sparked fan outrage.

As the lead, it is assumed Holland would take on the role of Odysseus, who fans believe is a much older character for the actor. Fans initially guessed that Holland would likely play Telemachus, the son of Odysseus. They expected the role of Odysseus to go to Matt Damon, who is collaborating with Nolan for the third time.

The 2022 Uncharted film has climbed to the top of the Max streaming charts, with the film briefly reaching the top 10 movies on the streaming service (via Flix Patrol). After being available on Hulu for a while, the film has now reached a new platform and has grown incredibly popular on Max. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, the film serves as an origin story for Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), the character at the heart of the first four Uncharted Video games. While not a direct adaptation of any specific installment of the franchise, the film instead chooses to create a more generic adventure story.
For fans of the video games that the movie is based on, Uncharted can be frustrating due to its unwarranted use of some of the most iconic set pieces from the video games without any of the emotional setup or character work that the series is also well known for.

John Grisham is one of the best-selling authors worldwide whose works have been adapted into several acclaimed feature films. Known primarily for his legal thrillers, Grisham’s best novels powerfully address injustices in the legal system and force readers and audiences to confront the inherent faults and contradictions in the legal sphere. With a talent for crafting compelling three-dimensional characters and narratives that leave audiences pondering their power long after the credits have rolled, some of the greatest directors ever have adapted Grisham’s work.
All-time great actors like Tom Cruise, Gene Hackman, and Denzel Washington have starred in movies based on Grisham’s novels and provided audiences with nail-biting thrillers that have left their mark on the genre as a whole. Tom Holland without a doubt stands out as the biggest fan of Spider-Man. His impressive collection of Spider-Man Funko POPs, organized in a “shrine,” tells it all. He is unapologetically buying figurines online with adult money.
The Spider-Man actor is set to join the ensemble cast of Christopher Nolan’s epic adaptation of The Odyssey featuring heavyweights like Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon, and more. Holland also expressed his enthusiasm to star in the next highly anticipated Spider-Man installment, Spider-Man 4.

From red carpets to resident aliens and driving ranges, NBCUniversal’s SpinCo has given its first indication what its programming strategy might look like with the hire of Val Boreland as President of Entertainment.
Boreland will oversee programming for cable networks including USA Network, Oxygen, E!, Syfy and Golf Channel as the Comcast-owned company spins off these assets into its own entity.
Boreland’s background – she is currently EVP and Head of Content Acquisitions, TV & Streaming for NBCUniversal – points to a mix of third-party acquisitions alongside original series.
She has overseen acquiring content for NBC, the cable networks and Peacock and was credited with the latter’s savvy acquisition of the streaming rights to hit Paramount drama series Yellowstone as well as its deal for the John Wick prequel The Continental.
But she does also have original programming experience, as NBCUniversal was quick to point out in its announcement Thursday.

With the likes of Spider-Man 4, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, and (presumably) a couple of indie flicks by name of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars looming on his horizon, Tom Holland could be forgiven for taking a bit of a breather before committing himself to any more projects just now. But having just taken a year out from acting after the release of 2023's The Crowded Room, there's no sign of Holland disappearing again any time soon. Per Deadline's reporting, the British actor has just signed on to star in and produce legal thriller The Partner, an adaptation of John Grisham's eponymous 1997 bestseller.
Boasting a script from The Imitation Game scribe Graham Moore, The Partner will see Holland explore another morally fraught character cut more from the Cherry or The Devil All The Time cloth than the Spidey suit. The original book, released during a run in...

Tom Holland continues to snag leading roles in non-Spider-Man movies. Next up, the long-awaited adaptation of John Grisham's 1997 bestseller The Partner.
According to Deadline, Holland has made a deal to star in and produce The Partner, a drama based on the 1997 novel of the same name. Graham Moore, whose writing credits include The Imitation Game (2014) and The Outfit (2022), is scripting for Universal. This will be Hollywood's second crack at The Partner after John Lee Hancock previously tried to bring the novel to the big screen as his follow-up to The Blind Side. After Hancock left the project, Mark Wahlberg became attached to star in The Partner in 2012. However, this version, which was in development at New Regency, eventually stalled. This led to the rights being up for grabs again, with Rideback swooping in to buy them. Rideback will produce The Partner alongside Holland's new production label Billy17.

Tom Holland is suiting up, this time to play a lawyer, in the upcoming adaptation of John Grisham’s novel “The Partner” for Universal Pictures.
The actor, who rose to fame playing Peter Parker in Sony’s “Spider-Man” trilogy, will also serve as a producer on the film, which is being written by “The Imitation Game” scribe Graham Moore. The 1997 novel, published the year after Holland was born, follows a junior partner at a law firm who steals $90 million from a wealthy client, fakes his own death and flees to Brazil.
Universal had no comment about Holland’s attachment to the project, which was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.
It’s unclear when the project will take shape. Holland has a busy film schedule, including Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” “Spider-Man 4” and potentially the next “Avengers” sequels, over the next year and change.
