In the 1990s, one name dominated TV miniseries: Stephen King. At the time, King had become the wealthiest writer in history, author of such popular novels as Misery, Carrie, It, The Stand and dozens more. While some of his titles -- Carrie, The Shining -- found homes on the big screen, many more became celebrated TV miniseries, attracting millions of viewers. In 1993, King and ABC partnered to add one more to the miniseries roster: The Tommyknockers.
Based on King’s 1987 novel of the same name -- one of King’s least-favorite of his own works -- The Tommyknockers attracted a wide audience, but earned mixed to negative reviews. Today, it has a reputation as one of the weakest of all King’s adaptations. Viewed more than 30 years later, however, The Tommyknockers stands out as an unusual King story. As pundits wonder whether or not President Trump will attend this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, the politics of entertainment funding carries on. Following February’s think tank-esque National Arts Advocacy Summit in Summerlin, Las Vegas, The Creative Coalition (Tcc) and an entertainment-community delegation will head to Capitol Hill the weekend of the dinner to speak directly with lawmakers for continued federal support of the arts. Amid a fraught backdrop that includes Trump’s firing of the Kennedy Center board and installing himself as chair, and Elon Musk calling for defunding NPR, Tcc may face an uphill battle on April 25.
The Summerlin summit in February set the strategy — to lead with economic impact. “The arts are not just a cultural asset — they are a cornerstone of economic growth and national prosperity,” said Tim Daly, Tcc president. “The arts sector generates over $877 billion annually, accounting for 4.5 percent of the...

Laurence Fishburne left CSI: Crime Scene Investigation for a specific reason. The show, which premiered on CBS in 2000, was created by Anthony E. Zuiker and ran for 15 seasons, in the process spawning half a dozen spinoffs including CSI: Miami, which ran for 10 seasons, and CSI: NY, which ran for nine. The flagship show, which followed a Las Vegas Police Department crime scene investigation team, featured a rotating cast of stars over the years, which included William Petersen, Marg Helgenberger, Gary Dourdan, George Eads, Jorja Fox, Paul Guilfoyle, Eric Szmanda, Robert David Hall, Louise Lombard, and Elisabeth Shue.
Laurence Fishburne joined the CSI franchise in 2008, first appearing on the flagship show in season 9 as former medical doctor Raymond Langston and becoming a main cast member two episodes later, after the departure of Petersen's longtime character Gil Grissom, who had been a part of the series since the pilot. It's no secret that male superheroes dominate the box office. However, there are exceptional female characters who are well worth some solo screen time. It may have taken a bit of time, but female superhero flicks have had major success with audiences, and luckily, there are still more to come.
Despite male superheroes like Superman and Spider-Man hogging the spotlight for some time now, several female superhero movies out there deserve more attention, such as Black Widow and Captain Marvel. Whether movies are led by a female character or a female character has an especially prominent role, they've met increased success and have developed loyal fanbases.

The 90s were the salad days for sci-fi horror popcorn flicks. It was a time when wild B-movies got A-movie budgets and brought the visuals and campy excess of Roger Corman to the mainstream. One of the divisive films of that time is Species - a serviceable and sometimes maligned creature feature - currently #4 on Tubi's charts. The cheesy exploitation film is not without its flaws, but audiences are finding a lot to enjoy, as the once deep cable mainstay finds new life on streaming.
Species begins with a fun premise - a decoded alien message from space gives a team of unscrupulous scientists instructions on how to splice human and alien DNA. Because all scientists in movies have maxed out stats in ingenuity but zero foresight, they give life to Sil, an alien-human hybrid that is hellbent on reproducing and escapes her laboratory prison. The result is a...

During the '90s, moviegoers were flooded with serial killer thrillers on a pretty frequent basis. Perhaps an early indication of the public's fascination with true crime, these films enticed viewers with their twisted plots, depraved protagonists, and usually a good guy detective or two, hot on the case. Stephen King has become somewhat famous for his contribution to horror literature. Thanks to a long series of terrifying novels, King has become a genre unto himself, authoring tales like "Carrie," "Christine," "It," "Pet Sematary," "The Stand," "The Dead Zone," "Firestarter," "Cujo," "Misery," and dozens of others. He often tells tales of alcoholic authors (something he admits he can relate to) or other not-entirely-redeemable protagonists dealing with supernatural evil in one for or another. King is widely beloved for his storytelling acumen, and his dogged pursuit of his own unusual interests. For the most part, horror is where his heart has lived, and he still writes ghost stories and tales of regret to this day.
But perhaps King should stay far away from science fiction. When the antagonist of a Stephen King story is a malevolent spirit, a killer dog, a demonic living corpse, or a child-eating clown, he is in his wheelhouse.

What happens when you watch something described as barely watchable especially when the original narrative it was based on was termed as “awful” by its own author? Hi, I’m Niki, and this is The Tommyknockers for Horror TV Shows We Miss.
I’m sure we have quite a few Stephen King fans among our viewers so it will be interesting to see what even the most hardcore of you think. Do we agree with King, the critics, and maybe most of humanity? Or is there something here that we’ve been missing? This is not the worst adaptation I’ve ever seen– at least not yet. The first part started off slow for me, and even though I wanted to bail at certain points I stayed. It may have been my love for Butch, or Gard’s drunken intrusive thoughts, or the complete and utter fever dream that this presents as.

The changing landscape of TV, with the introduction of streaming services like Netflix and the decline of cable, has led to series with fewer seasons and fewer episodes per season. However, some programs have stood the test of time and lasted way longer than fans would have thought possible.
While it's easy for animated shows like South Park to go on for years because of the creative freedom and endless possibilities in the genre, some drama shows have lasted just as long due to their gripping storytelling. They also replace characters as they age to keep viewers interested. As things change, it's comforting for many viewers to find a show that taps into nostalgia while tackling modern issues. From The Simpsons to Grey's Anatomy, several TV shows have been running for decades and still boast a steady viewership, with no end in sight.

The attention-grabbing episode "Cockroaches" sets the stage for significant character development, leading to an exciting climax until the end. The impactful episode "Anonymous" showcases early engagement with a serial killer case and unique scientific work by the team. "After The Show" delves into team dynamics and professional envy, with Catherine's strong investigative skills coming to the forefront.
After 15 seasons, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation has amassed many fantastic episodes, but only a few stand out as the best CSI episodes. Since the show ran for so long, few characters lasted until the end. However, beloved leads like Gil Grissom (William Petersen), Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger), and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) are major players in the greatest episodes of the series. The show is set in Las Vegas, and the crimes frequently incorporate different aspects of the city's history and legacy.
The series' huge success is because CSI did things differently than other crime procedurals.

The CSI franchise is not dead despite CSI: Vegas' cancelation, with CBS teasing a new spinoff in development. Characters like Catherine Willows, Maxine Roby, and Dr. Langston could potentially lead future CSI spinoffs. Fan-favorite characters like Nick Stokes, Mac Taylor, and Eric Delko, among others, also deserve their own spinoffs.
Although CBS has sadly canceled CSI: Vegas after only three seasons, that doesn't mean the CSI franchise is dead, seeing as the universe contains several characters who could (and should) receive spinoffs, even if some of them haven't appeared in any show for more than a decade. There are plenty of CSI shows that many would like to see after CSI: Vegas' cancelation, ranging from series revolving around the return of beloved characters to ones featuring a new cast in a new city. Whatever the case, the latest CSI revival won't likely be the final installment in the police procedural franchise.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for CSI: Vegas season 3, episode 10.
The series finale of CSI: Vegas season 3 was a standout episode, highlighting newer characters and setting up an exciting direction for season 4. CSI: Vegas attracted a significant viewership for its series finale, showcasing potential for future growth and engagement had the show continued. This proves CBS made a mistake in canceling the series.
Despite its recent cancelation, CSI: Vegas still had plenty of gas in the tank, leading to questions about why the network let such a successful series go. As the last of the five shows in the CSI franchise, Vegas was unique because it featured a mix of old and new characters in a familiar setting. Original CSI stars William Petersen and Jorja Fox appeared in season 1, and season 2 brought Marg Helgenberger back to fill the void after Petersen and Fox's arcs concluded.

CSI: Vegas has come to a close with the airing of its Season 3 finale on CBS. While there won't be a future for the series on the network any longer, the show managed to get a big win on its way out the door.
Per TVLine, the series finale of CSI: Vegas set a new high for the series, drawing the highest viewership it's ever had. On Sunday, the airing of the series finale drew 4.8 million total viewers, a 16% increase. Because the cancelation was not known until more recently, it wasn't planned for CSI: Vegas to end with its third season, resulting in a cliffhanger conclusion that may never be resolved. Perhaps the silver lining is that the show made it to three seasons when the original plan was for the show to be a limited series. CSI: Vegas star Pauline Newsome is also holding out hope for her character's story to continue.

Pauline Newsome expresses interest in reprising the role of Maxine in the future. The cancellation of CSI: Vegas doesn't rule out the return of Maxine to the franchise, as CBS may develop a new show. With successful crossovers and character returns in the past, Newsome's return as Maxine in a future show seems possible.
CSI: Vegas star Pauline Newsome reveals she'd be willing to play the character of Maxine again, despite the show's cancelation. CSI: Vegas is the fifth series in the CSI franchise, serving as a reboot of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. The show stars Newsome as Maxine Roby, head of the Las Vegas Crime Lab, and features the return of William Peterson, Jorja Fox, and Marg Helgenberger, who reprise their roles from the original show. Spoiler Alert! This story contains details from the series finale of CSI: Vegas on CBS.
Like what happened to So Help Me Todd, CSI: Vegas didn’t get a chance to wrap up its three-season run on CBS with any grand gestures or heartfelt goodbyes.
The procedural, which was a followup to the 2000 CSI series, was canceled in April so there was no time to throw together a satisfying ending. So anyone who wanted to see where Maxine’s (Paula Newsome) relationship with Dean was going will have to live with disappointment.
At least there was some positives in the episode dubbed “Tunnel Vision”: Max survived her kidnapping by a Saudi big bad (Faran Tahir) who stole intelligence from Truman Thomas’ secret lab. Chris (Jay Lee) regained consciousness after he was exposed to a nerve agent. Penny (Sarah Gilman) set a wedding date with Jack (Joel Johnstone), and Josh...

After three seasons, “We’re going out with a bang,” says CSI: Vegas showrunner Jason Tracey as the CSIs at the Crime Lab work the last case we’ll see on the CBS drama on May 19. “There’s never been a more personal case on CSI: Vegas. There are some very big cards left to turn over on our AI/robotics storyline, and Allie’s [Mandeep Dhillon] season-long effort to reconfigure how partnerships work at the lab. I’m so proud of how this cast and crew are bringing our story home,” Tracey tells TV Insider. Following the explosion at the bio lab in the penultimate episode, Chris (Jay Lee) has been left unconscious and Max (Paula Newsome) abducted while calling Catherine (Marg Helgenberger). “Nobody is safe,” the showrunner warns. Members of the team will head underground to look for the “imperiled” Max in the tunnels. “There are almost 600 miles...

Among the shows to get canceled at CBS recently are NCIS: Hawai'i and CSI: Vegas. Both were seen as controversial, and the decision has been explained by the network.
Per TheWrap, this all comes down to heavy analysis of the performance and financials of each show leading to certain titles getting axed. With multiple new shows coming to CBS, the possible renewals that could be given to the current programs have been limited. Hawai'i and Vegas were both seen as successful shows by CBS, but the axe simply had to fall somewhere.

The viewing public learned of CSI: Vegas's end on April 19.
Its cancellation by CBS really shouldn't have come as a shock. Its middling ratings have made it a bubble show throughout its entire run.
CSI: Vegas had every opportunity to thrive. It first aired in 2021, amid a wistful revival craze as a nation coming out of a pandemic sought comfort viewing.
In that first season, odd couple Gil Grissom (William Peterson) and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) returned to break a conspiracy smearing the former crime lab's reputation.
At the same time, this generation's CSI lab, led by Maxine Roby (Paula Newsome), solved new cases like the former criminologists that viewers had loved for 16 seasons, only with newer, fancier gadgets to do the work.
Marg Helgenberger's Catherine Willows has fit seamlessly with the current squad over the past two seasons.
Like a legacy at any institution, the series was given time to find its way.

Sadly, we’re going to be saying goodbye to our favorite CSIs in the Las Vegas Crime Lab once again: CSI: Vegas will not be returning for a fourth season. The third season was a shorter one, and so that played into the way these 10 episodes unfold, as showrunner Jason Tracey told TV Insider in February. “We’ve got two pretty tight serialized arcs that are kind of unfolding,” he’d said at the time, and that likely ruled out any cameos from past CSI shows as well as returning to past cases (including something like Silver Ink from Vegas Season 2). But hey, at least we have Marg Helgenberger for her second season reprising her role of Catherine from the original CSI. Now that we know there are only four episodes left of the series, below, we take a look at two of the major storylines that need to be addressed in them.

"Cheers" was the third highest-rated show on television when Shelley Long opted to quit the series at the end of its fifth season and pursue movie stardom. Though the show had long since settled into its ensemble groove, the on-again/off-again Sam Malone and Diane Chambers romance was the primary generator of water-cooler chatter. Moreover, the chemistry between Long and Ted Danson was the stuff of a series showrunner's dream. Their banter was worthy of Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. You don't just go out and find another Katharine Hepburn. Could "Cheers," brilliant and popular as it was, survive Long's departure, especially when fans had so much invested in Diane?
This was the conundrum faced by casting director Jeff Greenberg, who'd joined "Cheers" during Long's last season. He knew chasing the next Long was courting disaster, so he looked for an actor who could hold her own with Danson and...

The two shows were some of the few CBS shows awaiting words on their fates for next season. The only other CBS shows with pending renewal statuses are “The Equalizer” and “NCIS: Hawai’i.” They are both solid performers, with “So Help Me Todd” averaging 7.7 million viewers an episode in multiplatform Live+35 and “CSI: Vegas” averaging 7.6 million. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, CBS simply did not have enough room on the schedule to bring them back.
In addition to its many previously announced renewals, CBS already has a number of new shows set to debut next season.

CBS has canceled CSI: Vegas after three seasons and So Help Me Todd after two. The news is not surprising as Deadline revealed earlier this week that both dramas were heavily on the bubble and in grave danger.
That despite CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd being solid ratings performers. With the entire CBS schedule doing well this season and three new drama series joining in 2024-25, NCIS: Origins, Matlock and Watson (in addition to a second season of the Australian NCIS: Sydney), the network was faced with painful decisions, and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas are the least watched CBS drama series this spring in both linear and multi-platform ratings.
In most current linear Nielsen viewership (2/12 to date), CSI: Vegas, which improved its time period, is at #21 among all non-sports broadcast programs with 6.234M viewers and So Help Me Todd at #22 with 6.224M. That is more...

CSI: Vegas has revived the dormant CSI franchise and become one of the most popular procedural shows on television. One massive contributing factor to the success of the series is the characters themselves. Season 1 introduced a new cast of characters alongside returning characters from the original CSI series. These new characters are the beating heart of the revival series and keep fans coming back for more.
As the new series regulars introduced in the series captured the public's attention, a new wave of fans was drawn into the franchise's latest iteration. Both the main and recurring characters featured perfectly merged quirky charm with intriguing intellect and strong dramatic performances. These recurring and main characters exemplify what is best about CSI: Vegas.
