Thomas Jane is returning as a gun man for hire in the upcoming sequel to 2009’s “Give ‘Em Hell, Malone.” Mark Hosack, the screenwriter for the first film, is returning to pen the follow-up.
Renegade Entertainment, the production company co-founded by Courtney Lauren Penn and Jane, is teaming up with Richard Rionda Del Castro’s Hannibal Media for the still-untitled sequel. Penn, Jane and Rionda are producing. Hannibal Media is fully financing the film, as well as handling worldwide sales and co-representing North America rights with Paradigm.
Principle photography is slated to begin in the third quarter of 2021.
“Malone has always been one of my favorite characters and we’re all thrilled that the original film found such a devoted fanbase,” said Jane. “I couldn’t stop thinking about where Malone would be now and where he is headed.”

Give ‘Em Hell Malone
Stars: Thomas Jane, Ving Rhames, French Stewart, Elsa Pataka, Doug Hutchison | Written by Mark Hosack | Directed by Russell Mulcahy
After the murder of his family a private dick turned gun-for-hire is the centre of attention for a cacophony of violence in this overtly violent throwback to the golden age of gangster and noir flicks.
Malone, a grizzled, alcoholic, wisecracking anti-hero is hired to retrieve a briefcase containing ‘the meaning of love’ (its ambiguous content seemingly a clear nod to Pulp Fiction). On his tail are hired goons Boulder and Matchstick, sent by crime boss Whitmore. In tow are inscrutable heroine Evelyn and Malone’s mother. There are also run-ins with a wacky crooner and a Chinese girl who bites people’s members off called ‘Mauler’. Let me be plain: Give ‘em Hell Malone is clichéd tripe. Reasonably well-made and sporadically amusing clichéd tripe, but clichéd tripe nonetheless.

Give ‘Em Hell Malone, Sean Connery holding umbrellas in Highlander, remaking Teen Wolf, fainting zombies and 3-D sharks in a supermarket. It's Mr Russell Mulcahy...
We had the pleasure of talking to Australian born director Russell Mulcahy, best known to most of us as the director of Highlander, The Shadow and, more recently, Resident Evil: Extinction. (I've also just managed to get hold of a copy of his film Ricochet, which I remember being a solid and underrated 90s action-thriller, starring Denzel Washington and John Lithgow, but more on that soon.)
The interview was to promote his latest film, Give ‘em Hell Malone (released on DVD today), which stars the ever dependable Thomas Jane as an old school private eye, living in a bizarre setting of the past and present. But we were fortunate to have time to discuss his career at length too and get some great stories in the process.

While he might pay lip service to the notion that the idea of marrying noir mystique with action movie stylings was something that appealed to him, star Thomas Jane is surely glad that on the back of his hit HBO series Hung, his stock has now risen to the point where he will no longer have to turn out of bed for schlock like this to pay the bills (at least not in the short term anyway). An overcooked 'bring me that suitcase' thriller complete with kingpins and molls, but stopping just short of feather boas and pencil mustaches.
We're going to be generous to Aussie director Russell Mulcahy and say that the noir elements are 'conceptual' in nature and the continuity errors are deliberately ironic. We're struggling to come up with another explanation as to why a helmer with Mulcahy's experience would go to the trouble of decking everyone...

You gotta give Thomas Jane credit for taking chances with experimental genre projects, but (much like .The Mutant Chronicles.) this film is less than the sum of its parts. The film is mean to be a contemporary ode to film noir, but falls short. It.s hard to pinpoint where exactly it went wrong as the script by Mark Hosack seems serviceable and Thomas Jane and Ving Rhames give it their all, but the film ultimately seems to suffer from a low budget that doesn.t allow the scope of this project to breath. It also has to deal with surprisingly sloppy direction by the usually dependable Russell Mulcahy of .Highlander. fame. We start off with a promising ultra-violent...

I've got this idea, see? It'll cock that jaunty fedora pretty sweet, see? I'm gonna make a movie about a detective, a shylock, a gumshoe, and I'm gonna call him Malone. A real man's man's name, honest, blue collar, salt of the earth, see? And then I'm gonna surround Malone with a bunch of dames and broads, saddle them with names something like a Dick Tracy character would have only it's not a descriptor. Tough guy names like Matchstick and Boulder and Mauler and Frankie the Crooner, see? And I'm gonna frame it real nice like, like it's a gritty hyper-stylized Frank Miller version of a Jim Thompson novel, only I'm not actually gonna set it during the 1940s. Scratch that, I'll just give the lead guy a smooth 1940's looking ride, and have him mutter and grumble like Rain Man playing Sam Spade. Oh, this puppy's cooking with gas,...

When I moseyed on down to Comic-Con this year, I took some time to hook up with the Raw Studios boys, whom we're big fans of. In doing so, I was able to meet the writer of their most recent (at the time) fare, Mark Hosack, who had penned the fun noir flick Give 'Em Hell Malone. At the time of my review I had mistakenly stated that it was Hosack's first feature, though in actuality he wrote and directed Pale Blue Moon back in 2003. The film has a small footprint as of now (59 votes on IMDb) that all that is about to change as the film has emerged from a legal dead zone to finally secure distribution. When a release date for the DVD is set, we'll let you know, but in the mean time, how about you take a look at the trailer? The film follows Detective John Lefsberg, a...

Way back all those many days ago at the 2009 San Diego Comic Con, I got a chance to take an early look at Give 'Em Hell Malone, the noir thriller starring Thomas Jane and Ving Rhames. For all intents and purposes this is a review of the film, though I'm not calling it as such because the film isn't finished. As we speak probably nothing is happening because Hollywood types generally nap around 3:30pm as I write this, but no doubt during business hours tomorrow people will be talking, wheeling, dealing and trying to weasel more money into or out of the project. What's missing now is some time in the edit bay, color timing and correction, and a few more music cues. Other than that, the experience is probably pretty close to the final product - unless of course some more money can be put into the film. Give...

San Diego Comic Con International has finally put out its complete 2009 programing with the announcement of Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, schedules. With the outing of the last two days line-up, it is uncovered that "Iron Man 2" is indeed scheduled for the third day of the annual convention.
The Saturday schedule announcement confirmed that Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment will present the "Iron Man" sequel from 04:00 P.M. - 05:00 P.M. at Hall H. It is unclear though whether director Jon Favreau and any member of the star-studded cast ensemble, such as Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Mickey Rourke, and Samuel L. Give ‘em Hell, Malone is a noir throwback film that is going to be premiering at Cannes in a couple of weeks, and we here at Screen Rant have the first trailer for the film [Warning: it's a red-band trailer, strictly for adults only!!!].
The film stars Thomas Jane and Ving Rhames, as a private dick and a gangster respectively, each on the hunt for a suitcase containing a mysterious secret which (if I’ve understood the trailer correctly) will instantly remind noir-lovers of the classic noir film, Kiss Me Deadly.
Star Wars fans pay special attention while you watch the trailer: there’s a little symphonic Easter-egg buried in there just for you guys.
Two things I instantly like about this movie: first, the fact that the guy locked in the trunk of the car says “Suck my Sinatra,” (1:55); second, the side-boob shot of actress Elsa Pataky (Snakes on a Plane) (1:38). Yum.

Last December we put up a few photos from a noir crime drama called Give 'Em Hell Malone starring Thomas Jane and Elsa Pataky. Thanks to Trailer Addict we've got the first promo trailer and holy sh*t it's badass! I've heard about how crazy this was before, and I think I saw some footage already, but let's forget about all that, because this promo trailer below is frickin' awesome! Thomas Jane stars as Malone, a tough as nails private investigator who squares off with gangsters and thugs to protect a valuable secret. "Malone goes through hell to protect the information but he dishes some hell as well." You've got to see this! Watch the promo trailer for Give 'Em Hell Malone: Give 'Em Hell Malone is directed by Russell Mulcahy, of Highlander and Resident Evil: Extinction previously, and is written by Mark Hosack, of Hinterland and Pale Blue Moon.

Russell Mulcahy, the director who gave us “Highlander” way back when and, more recently, “Resident Evil: Extinction,” will direct an indie actioner “Give ‘Em Hell, Malone,” starring Ving Rhames, Thomas Jane and Elsa Pataky. Hannibal Pictures and Continental Entertainment are producing, with shooting scheduled to start October 6 in Spokane, Wash. Richard Rionda Del Castro, Richard Salvatore and Johnny Martin are producing the screenplay penned by Mark Hosack. Martin Barab, Oscar Generale, Armand Speca, Walter Josten and Jeffrey Geoffray executive produce the film which centers on a private eye attempting to retrieve a mysterious case. The last film by the Australian filmmaker that was worth anyone’s time was the underrated Denzel Washington action film “Ricochet," produced by Joel Silver back in 1991. Here’s hoping Mulchay Gives Us Hell again after all these years.
