Earlier this month, Disney released the first trailer for its highly anticipated live-action reimagining of the 2002 animated classic, “Lilo & Stitch,” which is set to release exclusively in theaters on Friday, May 23, 2025.

The film follows the touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl (Lilo) and the fugitive alien (Stitch) who helps to mend her broken family.

Within 24 hours of its release, the trailer emerged as the second most viewed Disney live-action trailer of all time with 158 million views, behind only 2019’s “The Lion King” teaser trailer.

Within an hour of release, the trailer for “Lilo & Stitch” reached No. 1 on the trending chart on X (formerly Twitter) and remained in the top 10 for several hours following. The trailer also trended on YouTube, taking the No. 1 spot following its release, and even reached No. 1 on China’s Douyin platform.

Successfully capturing the spirit of the animated classic it adapts, this latest preview highlights what looks to be a pitch-perfect take on Experiment 626.

The streamer has renewed the series, based on author Rick Riordan’s quintet of novels, for a third season. The pickup comes well ahead of season two for Percy Jackson, which Disney+ says will premiere in December — two years after the debut of its first season.

The highly anticipated movie is a live-action reimagining of Disney's 2002 animated classic, and this sneak peek points to a remake that most definitely does the original feature justice.

While it will seemingly stick pretty close to what we saw in the original Lilo & Stitch, this doesn't look like a shot-for-shot remake and actually throws in a few new moments and some very funny gags. The casting for Lilo (Maia Kealoha), Nani (Sydney Agudong), and David (Kaipo Dudoit) is spot on. Chris Sanders, who originally voiced Stitch, is the voice of Stitch.

They are going to give Jumba (Zach Galifianakis) and Pleakley (Billy Magnussen) human disguises, which we figured they would. But we see Pleakley as CGI, too, and he looks spot on!

The CGI for this film is top-notch, and Lilo is adorable!

Oh, and Cobra Bubbles (Courtney B. Vance) is in the film. There were rumors that he would be changed, but they did not do that.

Lilo & Stitchhas finally unveiled the official trailer for the upcoming live-action remake, and it will take audiences by surprise, as Disney has seemingly done what was thought to be impossible — create a new and fresh version of a timeless classic. Based on the 2002 film, Lilo & Stitch looks to recreate the magic of the original by honing in on what made it special without having to do a shot-for-shot remake. Despite not being a straight-up remake of the original, a lot of the 2002 film's iconography is present in the new trailer for Lilo & Stitch (see below). Among those is the space-set opening sequence, which features Stitch escaping onto Earth from a group of aliens. The snowcone sequence is also brought back to life in live-action, although it seems the film is leaning towards reshaping iconic moments instead of reenacting them one-for-one.

In the extended look at the live-action reboot, a lonely Hawaiian girl named Lilo is longing for a best friend. After she sees a glowing comet blast across the night sky, she makes a wish and then finds herself face-to-face with Stitch, a dog-like alien experiment whose raison d’etre is creating destruction.

Like the original 2002 animated film, “Lilo & Stitch” follows a young orphan who is being raised by her teenaged sister, Nani. Chris Sanders – the voice actor, filmmaker, and animator who originally created Stitch and co-wrote and co-directed the original movie with Dean DeBlois – is voicing Stitch again in the new movie.

Newcomer Maia Kealoha will be playing Lilo, the little girl from Hawaii who adopts Stitch.

According to an official film synopsis, Lilo & Stitch “tells a story of the bond formed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch, who was genetically engineered to be a force of destruction. With nosy social workers and pursuing aliens banging on the door, the two bond over a shared sense of family and win the day.”

Sydney Agudong will be playing Lilo’s older sister Nani while Kahiau Machado is playing David Kawena, Nani’s love interest.

The Superbowl is known for its halftime entertainment as well as its Big Game spots, although those were a bit thin on the ground this year, spots were released for ‘F1,’ Jurassic World: Rebirth’ and ‘Lilo and Stitch.’

Apple Original Films has premiered their Big Game Sport for the Brad Pitt-led F1 movie ‘F1.’

Brad Pitt stars as a former driver who returns to Formula 1, alongside Damson Idris as his teammate at Apxgp, a fictional team on the grid. The feature is being shot during actual Grand Prix weekends as the team competes against the titans of the sport.

Directed by ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ filmmaker Joseph Kosinski, the film also stars Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo.

Opening only in theatres in North America on June 27, 2025, and internationally beginning 25 June 2025.

But, one movie icon no one expected to crash the event was Stitch, the adorable alien from Disney's beloved 2002 animated movie, Lilo & Stitch. Before he takes to the big screen on May 23 for the new live-action remake, Stitch made a quick and mischievous detour to the Super Bowl.

In Lilo & Stitch's 2025 Super Bowl commercial, Disney elected not to show any footage from the new movie. Instead, Stitch himself took to the pitch (kind of) to cause his characteristic style of mayhem. "Sorry folks, there's a breaking development. There's something down on the field," read the commentator, before the camera zoomed in on a blue ball of fluff scurrying across the field.

The hope was that yesterday evening's Super Bowl might finally bring us the first Lilo & Stitch trailer. Well, while there's still no sign of footage from the movie itself, we do have a fun new "Big Game" TV spot featuring Experiment 626 on the loose at the Super Bowl.

Disney appears to be having a blast marketing its next live-action remake, with previous posters and teasers showing Experiment 626 poking fun at Moana 2, Mufasa: The Lion King, and even laying waste to the House of Mouse's iconic castle.

In this "Big Game" preview, Stitch causes chaos at the Super Bowl as only he can. Like the poster that joins in, the TV spot is pretty hilarious. However, a trailer offering a better idea of what's to come in this reimagining of the animated 2002 classic does now feel overdue.
