This season of Sweet Magnolias focused a lot on Maddie Townsend (Joanna Garcia Swisher). Maddie and Cal had a Halloween-themed wedding and then dealt with her ex-husband’s death shortly after.
Through it all, the Townsend-Maddox family dealt with it together. This was also the first season the series explored more career options for Maddie.
Therefore, we were eager to chat with Joanna Garcia Swisher since she teased that this was her favorite season. As always, it was enjoyable talking to her as she talked about her love of Sweet Magnolias Season 4 and her pride in her TV children.

She loved how they approached Bill’s death and the epic storylines that came from that.

When the Sweet Magnolias Season 4 synopsis teased death and heartbreak, a death this significant wasn’t even on my radar.
I made a lot of assumptions about the character and what it might mean for the story, but what we have here was a bold move by the writers that offered some of the season’s most emotional arcs.
If you haven’t watched the season yet, turn away because there are spoilers below!
(Courtesy of Netflix)
It never dawned on me that Bill Townsend would take his last breath.
I assumed he would pop in at some point this season to visit the kids, but he wouldn’t be a significant part of the storylines.
Killing him off was a bold move and propelled some storylines forward. While I miss Chris Klein, it was needed.
Some people may disagree with me, but Bill hasn’t added much to the series in a long time.

The biggest piece of news in the announcement is the startlingly soon release date for Squid Game Season 3. Netflix is heading back to Shadyside with Fear Street: Prom Queen, the latest addition to the Fear Street movie franchise based on R.L. Stine’s beloved teen horror novels. This new installment, directed by Matthew Palmer (Calibre), continues the legacy of the 2021 trilogy, and has been officially rated R by the MPA. The rating is due to “strong bloody violence and gore, teen drug use, language, and some sexual references.”
Set in 1988, Fear Street: Prom Queen revisits Shadyside, where prom season at Shadyside High takes a dark turn. The movie introduces a fresh storyline inspired by R.L. Stine’s 1992 book The Prom Queen. In the story, a group of girls campaigning for prom queen begins to mysteriously disappear after a gutsy outsider is nominated.
The students of Shadyside High quickly realize this is no ordinary prom night—it’s a fight for survival.

Get ready for a real scare. It appears that R.L. Stine and Netflix's partnership is still going strong and, lucky for horror fans, is not straying from the path of its success in the more adult-focused horror market. Netflix's Fear Street film trilogy took the Goosebumps writer's teen horror book series of the same name from the page to the screen.
But rather than keeping the teen-oriented spooks, the producers decided to move the stories into the "R" rated territory, and what a fruitful decision that was for the classic series. With the next installment of the horror films, Fear Street: Prom Queen, following in the previous films' footsteps, the future of the series is promising for fans of Stine and horror alike.
The Goosebumps books, with the first being published in 1989, were explicitly meant for teenagers, limiting the amount of gore and graphic violence that they could contain.

Fear Street: Prom Queen, the continuation of the Fear Street film franchise that began with the release of the trilogy of Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666 on the Netflix streaming service back in the summer of 2021, made its way through production last year, and while Netflix hasn’t announced a specific release date for the film yet, it has just taken one big step toward release: it has gotten its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. Fear Street: Prom Queen has been rated R for strong bloody violence and gore, teen drug use, language and some sexual references.

But first up is Fear Street: Prom Queen, which doesn’t yet have a trailer or premiere date. The film has been officially rated by the MPA this week, however, landing a hard “R” rating.

Horror fans will be visiting Fear Street for some time to come. Ahead of Fear Street: Prom Queen, author R.L. Stine has shared how many more movies in the Netflix franchise are currently being developed.
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about Goosebumps Season 2, Stine revealed that three more Fear Street movies are currently being written. "The writers are working," the author shared. "So I’ve got my fingers crossed." Netflix's Fear Street franchise was originally supposed to consist of just the original three-part trilogy, which was released weekly in July 2021. However, a fourth movie, Prom Queen, was announced in November 2023.

Director Leigh Janiak and the Netflix streaming service brought us a really fun horror event back in the summer of 2021 with the Fear Street trilogy. Three films that were filmed back-to-back-to-back and then released over the course of three weeks – those films being Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666. It was an instant franchise, and had the potential to lead to many more films… because, after all, author R.L. Stine has written over 100 books that have been published under the various Fear Street banners. While we won’t be getting another trilogy event this year, we do know that a new addition to the franchise, Fear Street: Prom Queen, will be reaching Netflix sometime in 2025 – and Stine has told The Hollywood Reporter that there actually are three new Fear Street movies in the works!

Sometimes, a movie can take a little while to catch on, which was the case with the 2005 Christmas romantic comedy Just Friends. Although the film was only a moderate hit upon release, the Ryan Reynolds-led comedy has gained traction over the years as a bit of a cult classic and a part of the Christmas movie rotation for some fans. This appears to have been the case this year as Just Friends is making strides on streaming as Christmas approaches.
Just Friends is currently ranked tenth on Hulu's Top 10 films. It would make sense for the movie to rise in popularity on streaming because fans probably watch many Christmas movies before the big holiday. The movie offers an easygoing viewing experience and is suitably romantic and funny. It features a talented ensemble cast that makes the most of the screenplay, written by Adam 'Tex' Davis.

Next year, a fourth installment in the Fear Street franchise will be released on Netflix. The upcoming movie, titled Fear Street: Prom Queen will adapt the 1992 novel of the same name by acclaimed children's horror author R. L. Stine.
Netflix released the first poster for Fear Street: Prom Queen on its official X account, which shows Shadyside High's schoolyard covered in fog. The school's Marquee sign reads, "Shadyside High School Senior Prom '88," however, the "D", "I," and "E" in "Shadyside" are in red, spelling out a message that will surely frighten those it is meant for: "Die." Blood splatter covers the bottom of the Marquee sign, with a bloody ax leaning against it. "In 2025, experience a new nightmare from the world of Fear Street," the poster's tagline states, confirming the movie's release window on Netflix.

The Fear Street film trilogy is widely regarded as one of the best horror thriller franchises in recent memory, and fans can now look forward to a fourth installment titled Fear Street: Prom Queen, which is set to premiere on Netflix in 2025. All three prior movies in the series were released on the platform in July 2021, with each one coming out in the subsequent weeks. Following the release of Fear Street Part Three: 1666, director Leigh Janiak expressed interest in continuing the story, apparently wanting to create a slasher film that takes place during the 1980s. By November 2023, Netflix's Head of Film, Scott Stuber, confirmed that it would be a standalone movie rather than the continuation of the prequel events.
In the third film, evil was seemingly vanquished thanks to the continued efforts of Sarah Fier (Kiana Madeira), Ziggy (Gillian Jacobs), and Hannah (Olivia Scott Welch), but the finale suggests otherwise.

The streaming platform released the Fear Street trilogy in July 2021, three movies adapted from R.L. Stine's book series of the same name with an interconnected storyline. Now, Netflix has released the first poster for Fear Street: Prom Queen, confirming a 2025 release window for the upcoming horror sequel. The poster reveals the return of Shadyside High from the original trilogy, with a sign that reads "Senior Prom '88." However, the sign is splattered with blood, while an axe is sitting beside it, also drenched in crimson.

Its incredible how much societal attitudes around whats shocking change over time, meaning that once controversial films appear relatively mild in hindsight. This can be the case across genres, as trailblazing comedies, dramas, and horror movies lay the foundations for subsequent movies to push cinematic boundaries into previously uncharted territory. This was why horror movies that once left viewers running from theaters now appear pretty mild compared to today's most shocking media representations.
Some of the most controversial movies of all time can feel pretty mild by todays standards, as filmmakers like Alfred Hitchcock and William Friedkin pushed audiences well past their comfort zones with truly subversive films. Other movies tested the limits of tolerance, and once shocking representations of LGBTQ+ characters no longer feel controversial at all. These changes in what constitutes a controversial film highlight just how much society has progressed over the past few decades and signaled positive social and political development.

After 25 years, Jason Biggs took advantage of one of his most memorable roles for some tongue-in-cheek marketing.
The American Pie star, who hosts Netflix‘s Blue Ribbon Baking Championship, joked “there were no pies harmed” while filming the backing competition series, which is “safe for family viewing” and now available on the streamer.
“I’ve really wanted to host something in the food world,” Biggs told USA Today. “Of course, there’s the wink at the camera and the audience with me as a baking show host. And whenever I can’t think of something to say, I always have a pie joke in my back pocket that brings the house down.”
The show’s premiere comes after last month’s milestone anniversary of his breakout role in American Pie (1999), which has long been known for its eponymous scene, in which Biggs’ bumbling teen character Jim fornicates with an apple pie.

Most of the villains introduced in the Arrowverse come with history in the comics, which adds extra pressure to successfully translate them into live-action. There is a weight to important villains and certain storylines as if the shows failed them, it can tarnish the character's perception.
Every Arrowverse villain had potential, but only some were accepted by fans, as others were very disappointed when comparing them to other beloved villains. From DC's biggest threat to a ruthless speedster, there was a huge range of villains that populated the Arrowverse shows.

"'American Pie' is the latest in a long tradition of immature, self-indulgent comedies that celebrate the recklessness of adolescents." That's what Looking Closer's Jeffrey Overstreet had to say in his original review of "American Pie" in 1999. On the flipside, Film Threat's Chris Gore declared the movie to be "one of the greatest teen films of all time." Let us never forget that two things can be true at once.
Written by an unknown named Adam Herz, it originally began circulating with the clever title "Untitled Teenage Sex Comedy Which Can Be Made for Under $10 Million That Studio Readers Will Most Likely Hate But I Think You Will Love." Sony has given the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie, which recently parted ways with directors Danny and Michael Philippou (Talk to Me), a release date of March 20, 2026.
With a release date now set, I’d imagine that we should soon be hearing about who will replace Danny and Michael Philippou at the helm of the Street Fighter movie. The Australian twin directors made their directorial debut with Talk to Me, which was a box-office success, grossing $92.2 million on a budget of $4.5 million. The reason behind their departure reportedly comes down to scheduling issues, with the studio hoping to get the ball rolling on Street Fighter sooner rather than later. The Philippous will be shooting their project, Bring Her Back starring Sally Hawkins and Billy Barratt, later this month in Australia.
