In an American city known for its pleasant weather and high concentration of retirees, there’s a stylish bungalow. In it live three friends. There’s a sweet dimbulb, a Southern wit and a sardonic protagonist trying to ignore a drumbeat of insecurities even though they’re being broadcast by the protagonist’s mother — who, by the way, also lives there. It can be hard to date with divorce trauma and stretch marks, but that’s no reason not to try, so there are wisecracking conversations about racy underwear, shameful hookups, and PrEP… because I’m not talking about The Golden Girls, I’m talking about Mid-Century Modern. For their latest, Will & Grace co-creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick have stolen from the best, and I couldn’t be happier they did.

“Will & Grace” creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan have reteamed for Hulu’s newest original sitcom, “Mid-Century Modern.” The series is a mostly delightful comedy that blends the wit of their groundbreaking sitcom with the charm of “The Golden Girls.” Set in Palm Springs, the series follows three gay male best friends of a certain age who find themselves living together following an unexpected death. While co-habitating, the trio navigates aging, grief, love, long-held secrets and everything in between. Though the show does lean into several stereotypes of the LGBTQ+ community, it’s all done in good humor and with a bit of flair. It’s also an interesting rarity in the streaming age — a James Burrows-directed, multi-camera sitcom filmed before a live audience.

Donny Osmond was the final guest on Thursday’s (March 13) episode of The View, promoting his Las Vegas residency show, and he found a lot of fans both in the audience and on the panel. He also got an opportunity to reminisce about his 63 years in show business, explain how his new show honors all of his career achievements, and give viewers a hint about when he’s planning to hang up his proverbial hat. “I don’t want to sound like it’s a nostalgic show. It’s six decades of show business in 90 minutes, so it goes from the beginning to the current and everything in between. I don’t know how I fit all six decades in the 90 minutes, but I did!” ...

Sometimes, it’s not so much our own experiences but those of the people closest to us that inform our opinions of certain films. I was moved enough by Barry Avrich’s “Born Hungry” (2024) on its own merits, but as I watched the story of Sash Simpson, the former homeless street child from Chennai turned internationally renowned Toronto chef, I also realized I was also watching the story of some of my closest friends and family as well. Despite the documentary’s undeniable flaws, I could not help but be moved by it. How other viewers respond, however, may be similarly dependent on how well they themselves identify with the life story unfolding onscreen.
The documentary begins on the eve of the grand opening of Sash Simpson’s eponymous restaurant on Toronto’s Yonge Street. Most of his life has been spent in Canada, where from the age of seven...

The 1970s saw a variety of musical movies, of which many have now become classics, among them Grease, which has two very dark Elvis Presley coincidences, one of them the result of a tragedy. It’s not unusual for stage musicals to be adapted into movies, and in 1978, it was Grease’s turn. The musical, by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, made its debut in the early 1970s to great success, and just a couple of years later, it was brought to the big screen by director Randal Kleiser.
Grease takes the audience back to 1958 to meet the T-Birds’ greaser leader Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and Australian new girl Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John). Danny and Sandy meet at the beach over the summer and fall in love, and to his surprise, when he returns to school, Sandy is the new girl. Danny and Sandy’s romance goes through many ups...

Osmond died Wednesday night in a hospital in Salt Lake City after suffering “a massive stroke,” his brother Merrill Osmond reported.

Composer and impresario Andrew Lloyd Webber is one of the most well-known names in musical theater and, thanks to some notable movie adaptations, he's also known in film circles as well. The London-born Andrew Lloyd Webber began his career collaborating on the Oliver!-inspired musical The Likes of Us with Tim Rice. That musical ended up failing to gain a backer and, after some more attempts to get something off the ground, he finally was able to produce Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the musical that would launch him into stardom.
Since then, Webber has helped fund and create songs for some of the most recognizable musicals ever, including Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, The Phantom of the Opera (1986), The Wizard of Oz (2011), and School of Rock (2015). He's won one Academy Award and been nominated three times, gone 3 for 15 at the Grammys, won a Golden Globe, and won 6 Tonys out of 23 nominations.

Donny Osmond has been a beloved entertainer for 62 years, so it's not surprising that he has a high net worth. He first gained fame by singing with his older siblings as part of the Osmond Brothers group. It soon became apparent that Donny was the standout among his siblings, serving as the lead vocalist on numerous hits in the early 1970s, including fan-favorite "Down by the Lazy River." The Osmonds became teen sensations, frequently appearing on the covers of popular magazines like Teen Beat.
Donny capitalized on his popularity and teamed up with his sister Marie on the variety show Donny & Marie. Though it was an immediate hit, after a few seasons, the public grew tired of the Osmond siblings' squeaky-clean image. Donny reinvented himself many times over the years. Michael Bay's career has been defined by the blockbuster. After graduating from Wesleyan University in 1986 with a degree in Film and English, he began his directing career through a series of music videos throughout the late 1980s. This included music videos for artists such as Richard Marks, Donny Osmond, Chicago, and Styx. After nearly a decade of consistent music video direction, Bay would g on to make his feature film debut with Bad Boys in 1995. Bad Boys later became a major film franchise, with its most recent installment (Bad Boys: Ride or Die) released this year.
After Bad Boys, Bay's projects got bigger and bigger in scope. He directed Armageddon in 1998, an epic sci-fi film that cost an estimated $140 million to make. His next project, the romantic epic war film Pearl Harbor, reportedly cost just as much. These movies started Bay on a new career path of making high-budget...

Hercules was first released in 1997 and quickly captivated fans with its unique take on an ancient tale. Alongside the extremely catchy musical numbers, this film was teeming with a collection of talented voice actors. James Woods is best known for playing Hades in the hit film and was highly praised for his energetic and vivacious performance.
Yet, many fans are unaware that he wasn't Disney's first pick for the role. In reality, the casting crew had a ton of big names in mind, all of which fell through toward the end. With that in mind, it naturally raises the question of what other actor could rival Woods' now iconic performance as the beloved Disney villain.

In his seventh decade, Donny Osmond has a nightly show on the Las Vegas strip and is about to return to the UK stage for a turn in Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s Bible-inspired musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
This would all come as a surprise to his childhood friend and fellow superstar Michael Jackson, whom Osmond remembers giving him some stark advice when his career hit the pits in the 1980s.
Osmond came to fame in the 1960s and early 1970s with his singing family of six brothers, one sister, while at the same time Jackson was the breakout star of his own family group, The Jackson Five. Both groups sold millions around the world, and Donny became a solo superstar.
However, following two decades of success, Donny Osmond could suddenly no longer get arrested. In an interview with The Times of London, he remembers asking Michael Jackson for advice.

Matt Gaetz is not a particularly reputable politician. Few politicians can be spoken in the same sentence as the word as "reputable" without eliciting laughter, but Gaetz is a particularly notable example of sordid behavior. The politician was accused of statutory rape, child sex trafficking and illegal drug use in 2020, and subsequently investigated by Department of Justice.

To quote Space Ghost himself, "I'll be dead long before you were born, and I'll be dead long before you'll be dead."
In 1994, producer Mike Lazzo donned a pith helmet, filled his arms with machetes, and trekked into the darkest corners of the bleak, terrifying Hanna-Barbera cartoon library. In the depths, he re-discovered a long-forgotten, one-season animated series from 1966 called "Space Ghost," a superhero show about a white-clad, cape-wearing starship captain who fought bud-like villains in the inky void of the cosmos. Space Ghost, voiced by Gary Owens, could pass through walls and oversaw a pair of sidekicks named Jan (Ginny Tyler) and Jace (Tim Matheson) as well as a chimp named Blip (Don Messick).
Like most of Hanna-Barbera's output, "Space Ghost" was strange and awful. 20 years later, reruns of shows like "Space Ghost" were increasingly enjoyed exclusively by college students under the influence of potent smokables. One would be...

Australian beauty Kym Johnson waltzed her way onto the ballroom floor — and into viewers’ hearts — on Dancing With the Stars as a pro back in Season 3 of the dance reality competition series. Over the years, she competed in 15 seasons of the show, taking home the coveted Mirrorball trophy twice. Steve Lawrence, a king among easy-listening crooners who rocketed to fame in the ’50s and ’60s as half of the duo Steve and Eydie, died Thursday at age 88. Lawrence died at home in Los Angeles, and the cause of death was complications from Alzheimer’s disease, according to a spokesperson for the family, Susan DuBow.
Lawrence’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis had finally put an end to his touring career in 2019, after a run in the public eye that spanned six and a half decades.
Lawrence was preceded in death in 2013 by his wife, Eydie Gormé, with whom he enjoyed nearly unparalleled success as a performing couple during their heyday as touring artists and TV stars in the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s. The couple had continued to tour together through 2009.

Steve Lawrence, the charismatic Grammy- and Emmy-winning crooner who delighted audiences for decades in nightclubs, on concert stages and in film and television appearances, died Thursday. He was 88.
Lawrence, who partnered in a popular act with his wife of 55 years, the late Eydie Gormé, died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease, a publicidst announced.
With his boyish good looks, silky voice and breezy personality, Lawrence broke into show business when he won a talent competition on Arthur Godfrey’s CBS show and signed with King Records as a teenager. The singer chose to stay old school and resist the allure of rock ‘n’ roll.
“It didn’t attract me as much,” Lawrence once said. “I grew up in a time period when music was written by Irving Berlin and Cole Porter and George and Ira Gershwin and Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein and Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart and Sammy Cahn and Julie Stein.

Plot: Behind the scenes of the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special.
Review: Young people today have no idea how hard it was to see the Star Wars Holiday Special in the days before the internet. I remember only being aware of the Holiday Special in the mid-nineties thanks to the occasional mention in Starlog or Sci-Fi Universe. In about 1996, some friends and I attended a Star Wars Convention in Montreal, and the big attraction was that they would be screening the Holiday Special in full on someone’s bootleg tape. My pals and I were so excited, but after all the years of reading about it and dreaming of what it could be like, we walked out after ten minutes. Nine minutes of unsubtitled Wookie was enough to turn us off, and to this day, I don’t think I’ve ever actually sat through the whole thing.

Chicago – A long time ago (1978) in an America far far away, the one and only showing of the “Star Wars Holiday Special” took place on CBS-tv. Infamously miscast and difficult to watch, the history of the show is chronicled in a new doc “A Disturbance in the Force,” co-directed by Jeremy Coon and Steven Kozak.
Rating: 5.0/5.0
In 1977, “Star Wars” became a cultural phenomenon that single-handedly revitalized a stagnant film industry, and forever changed how films were sold, made, and marketed. On November 17th, 1978, CBS aired the two-hour “Star Wars Holiday Special” and was watched by 13 million people. It never re-aired and is considered one of the worst shows to ever be broadcast on national TV. “A Disturbance in the Force” co-directors Jeremy Coon and Steve Kozak combine celebrity insight – including Seth Green, Donny Osmond and Kevin Smith – archival/participant interviews and broadcast history perspective to understand why this show was created.
