February always comes and goes so fast, being the shortest month of the year and one of the coldest. With the last weekend of February 2025 landing on the 21st, at least we can say that the month is going out with a bang, offering some great movies to watch in theaters this weekend. Notably, Oz Perkins follows up the fan-favorite Longlegs when he tackles Stephen King in the latest adaptation of The Monkey. Those looking for high-octane thrills will also want to check out Martin Campbell's The Cleaner.
Those who would rather stay have a few streaming options this month. Shudder brings the debut film of Spider One of 'Powerman 5000' fame to its streaming platform with the demonic Little Bites. The world's fastest rodent also lands on Paramount+ with Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Finally, those who want to witness the box office car crash that was The Crow...

I was born into David Lynch's world, and in some ways, I mean that literally. I was born and raised in Philadelphia, a metropolis where Lynch lived and worked and felt inspired by local artists and the city's patina and grunge. While my mother was still recovering from my birth in the hospital, she watched the episode of "Twin Peaks" where — spoiler alert, I guess? — Leland Palmer (Ray Wise) stuffs the dead body of Maddy Ferguson (Sheryl Lee) into a golf bag, horrifying any nurses who walked into the room at inopportune moments. This is all to say that, over the past 30-odd years, I've grown up in a world where Lynch — a director and visionary who passed away on January 16, 2025 — has always been a part of the conversation.
This probably makes it all the more surprising that I didn't watch "Mulholland Drive" for the first time until I was 30 years old,...

A couple years ago, Spider One – the frontman of Powerman 5000 and the brother of fellow musician/filmmaker Rob Zombie – made his feature directorial debut with the horror anthology Allegoria. Last year, his second feature – a horror film called Bury the Bride – was released through the Tubi streaming service. His third film, which is called Little Bites, recently secured a worldwide distribution deal through Rlje Films and the Shudder streaming service – and, having received a theatrical and VOD release in October, Little Bites is now set to start streaming on Shudder as of February 21st!
Written and directed by Spider One, Little Bites centers on Mindy, a young widow and mother who tries to protect her daughter Alice from a flesh eating monster named Agyar. Mindy has been secretly sacrificing her own life by allowing the creature to feast on her body as she keeps Alice hidden away at her grandmother’s house.

Bonnie Aarons is surprisingly most recognizable when she looks nothing like herself, considering that her most famous role is the demon nun Valak in The Conjuring 2. Outside The Conjuring franchise, Aarons has appeared in over 50 movies, including some unexpected ones. She briefly appears in the comedy Shallow Hal, both The Princess Diaries movies, starring Anne Hathaway, and the psychological drama The Silver Linings Playbook. Still, Aarons is best known for horror movies, including Drag Me To Hell and I Know Who Killed Me, and The Conjuring franchise made her a horror icon.
Valak "the Defiler" is first introduced in The Conjuring 2, taking the form of the creepy entity known as the Crooked Man, as well as the white-faced, yellow-eyed nun. The ending of The Conjuring 2 shows Vera Farmig's Lorraine Warren sending Valak back to hell. Still, the demon nun image was so visually striking and popular with...

Monsters as metaphors are nothing new to the world of fiction, allowing creators to find novel ways to explore the unknown through horror tropes. The genre has seen a surplus of films using this device in the 10 years since Jennifer Kent’s The Babadook was released to critical and commercial success, and we can now add Spider One‘s Little Bites to the list. It’s a well-intentioned film, with the musician-turned-filmmaker delivering a visually striking parental horror film that boasts a strong lead performance, but it suffers from a transparent script and some severe pacing issues.

Like Spirit Halloween seizing a once-beloved store, Silver Scream Con moved into the old stomping grounds of Rock and Shock — New England’s premier horror convention, which came to an end in 2019 — at the Dcu Center in Worcester, Ma for its three-quel on September 13-15.
It was a full circle moment for Silver Scream mastermind and Ice Nine Kills frontman Spencer Charnas, whose experiences attending Rock and Shock inspired him to start his own convention. Having quickly outgrown its previous venue, the Doubletree hotel in Danvers, Silver Scream Con III’s new setting was able to accommodate even more horror fans for three days of horror, music, gore, and more.
The guest list included: Scream‘s David Arquette, Jamie Kennedy, and Lee Waddell; Cabin Fever‘s Eli Roth, Cerina Vincent, and Jordan Ladd; Terrifier‘s Damien Leone, David Howard Thornton, Lauren Lavera, Elliott Fullam, and Amelie McLain; Halloween‘s Nick Castle,...

We first learned of Little Bites back in June 2023 when it was announced that mother-and-son duo Cher and Chaz Bono would be coming together to executive produce it. Spider One was revealed to be writing the script and would also be directing, with OneFox Productions producing.
Besides being an executive producer, Bono also stars in the horror flick. The plot revolves around a widower and mother who, to protect her daughter from a flesh-eating monster, sacrifices her own body by letting the creature feed off of her. Meanwhile, she keeps her daughter hidden far away at her grandmother’s.

The Conjuring 4 has been set for a September 5, 2025 release. The next installment in the hit horror franchise will also be the final mainline movie, with Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson returning as Ed and Lorraine Warren and franchise vet Michael Chaves directing. Though it will avoid potential competition from The Black Phone 2 and Mortal Kombat 2, The Conjuring 4's new release date will make for an early horror season box office battle.
With over a decade under its belt, The Conjuring 4 will bring the mainline horror franchise to a close, and the release date has now been revealed for the fourquel.
Variety has brought word that Warner Bros. has set The Conjuring 4 to hit theaters on September 5, 2025. The news also came as the studio also announced that Maggie Gyllenhaal's Frankenstein adaptation The Bride will be moving up by one week, now releasing at the end of September 2025 rather...

When the opening scene ended with a pretty cool and gory death, in what was a traditional but fun slasher film build-up, my hopes were kind of high. It feels like we have had very few new slasher movie villains to get excited about. Of course, Michael Myers, Chucky, Ghostface and more are still going strong but other than Art the Clown in the Terrifier franchise, no one seems to have lasted for more than one movie in more recent times. So when Randy Couture is standing tall as Hank, giant axe in hand, things were looking up. But the movie doesn’t quite pan out the way I was expecting.
The Bell Keeper follows a group of friends, including two brothers, who travel to a campsite at Lake Bell.

Sydney Sweeney‘s second film of 2024 is finally here, let’s hope that it doesn’t turn into a disaster like the first one. Produced by Sweeney herself, Immaculate is a psychological horror film and it follows the story of a young nun who joins a convent in the Italian countryside. Her quiet life quickly turns into a nightmare because of the horrific secrets hidden in the convent. Directed by Michael Mohan, Immaculate also stars Simona Tabasco, Benedetta Porcaroli, and Álvaro Morte. So, if you loved Sweeney’s horror film here are some similar movies you should check out next.
The Convent
Co-written and directed by Paul Hyett, the 2018 film British horror film titled The Convent gives a similar atmosphere to Sweeney’s Immaculate. The Convent tells us the story of a group of young women seeking refuge from the turmoil of World War II in an isolated convent in the countryside.

‘Drag Me to Hell’ – New Australian Blu-ray Celebrates 15 Years of Sam Raimi’s Horror Return [Review]
Of all the masters of horror that helped to reshape the genre as we know it in the ’70s and ’80s, none were more successful in branching out and achieving commercial success within the studio system than Sam Raimi. His Spider-Man trilogy laid the groundwork for the influx of comic book movies that would follow, but he was eager to return to his roots following the third installment’s turbulent production.
Armed with $30 million and complete creative control, Raimi dusted off a story he wrote with elder brother and frequent collaborator Ivan Raimi back in the ’90s to make his triumphant return to horror with Drag Me to Hell in 2009. The Raimi broters seemingly drew inspiration from 1957’s Night of the Demon but injected it with a heavy dose of Evil Dead DNA, most closely evoking Evil Dead 2‘s cartoonish blend of over-the-top splatter and tongue-in-cheek humor.

There have been no shortage of camp slashers over the past 40 years. Even films that aren’t called Friday the 13th have tapped into the zeitgeist and delivered horror in a setting that is supposed to be all about fun. From Sleepaway Camp to The Burning to You Might Be the Killer, if there is one thing that we know as horror nerds, it’s that bad things happen at camp, and you should steer clear.
This is most definitely the case with Thomas Walton’s new camp-based slasher Camp Pleasant Lake. It’s a film that seems to try to reinvent the camp slasher film, but doesn’t really succeed in filling it with life. It tries to do several things, in fact, and doesn’t really succeed in any of them.
But let’s start at the beginning. The Very beginning. 20 years ago, in the midst of their parents’ divorce,...

The classless practice of traumatic profiteering is alive and well in Thomas Walton’s micro-budget slasher Camp Pleasant Lake. We’ve become a society obsessed with gnarly true crime documentaries and podcasts, lifting infamous serial killers to celebrity status. As superfans once wrote letters to Charles Manson in prison, studios now churn out streaming programs about despicable icons like Bundy and Dahmer to capitalize on trending viewership. Camp Pleasant Lake is an intriguing commentary on selling someone else’s grief and loss for your next payday, but at no point does Walton’s execution do his “Horror LARPing” concept justice.
The film takes place at Camp Echo Lake, where new owners Rick (Michael Paré) and Darlene Rutherford (Maritza Brikisak) have reopened as an immersive Halloween experience. For $10,000, attendees are treated to “Camp of Terror,” an all-inclusive murder party that ties back to a horrible crime committed on the grounds 20 years prior.

“We were filming the summer months in Austin,” Wagner explains. “It was so hot. I felt it coming. I hit the ground.” He returned to finish the scene after rehydrating, but he describes the effects of the injury as “the most pain I’ve ever been in in my life.” Unable to wait for his full recovery,...

The Conjuring universe hasn’t been exorcised of its popularity, not if the box office numbers have anything to say about it. The latest installment, this year's The Nun II, reached a milestone, earning over $250 million worldwide, surpassing the $206 million that The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It took in. Valak’s (Bonnie Aarons) second spin-off might have been more successful, but everyone still wants more of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. They were either bonafide demon-fighting badasses or a married couple who threw holy water onto several severely mentally ill people throughout their careers, depending on your beliefs in the occult. What no one expected them to be, though, were box office giants.

Depending on who you talk to, spooky season extends far beyond October 31, and to keep that haunting atmosphere going this month Warner Bros. is set to release The Nun II on 4K Uhd on Blu-ray and DVD on November 14. The sequel follows Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) as she once again must face off against the evil spirit known as Valak. Farmiga returns with Jonas Bloquet and Bonnie Aarons, alongside newcomers like Storm Reid and Anna Popplewell. Ahead of the Uhd release, I sat down with director Michael Chaves to discuss the sequel's big moments and horrifying monsters.

It's a wonder that horror filmmakers don't scare themselves senseless all the time. Whenever I see creepy set pieces like the freaky clowns from "Hell House LLC" or monster designs like the one brought to life by Bonnie Aarons in "The Nun," I imagine I'd be running for the hills after spending too much time on set -- like Bill Hader sprinting away from Bill Skarsgard's Pennywise on the set of "It: Chapter 2." It's no wonder, then, that the life-sized animatronic puppets and costumes used on the set of the new "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie gave some of the cast and crew the willies.
In a Reddit Ama ahead of the film's release this week, director Emma Tammi said she was unnerved the first time she came face to face with the titular killer bear. After Reddit user AnimeLonk asked if any part of the production scared her,...

There are definitely some benefits to watching horror movies at home. For one thing, it's easy to hide under the covers when jump scares get overwhelming, or to pause for popcorn if you need to break the tension (or just really want some popcorn). In the case of the self-referential and foreshadowing-heavy Conjuring Universe, though, catching the latest movie on digital and home media also comes with one extra added benefit: the potential for frame-by-frame Easter egg hunting.
There are Easter eggs aplenty hidden throughout the interconnected franchise that began with "The Conjuring" in 2013, and apparently "The Nun II" is no exception. /Film's Bj Colangelo recently spoke with the director of the latest Conjuring-verse chiller, Michael Chaves, to get the scoop on some of the movie's most rewarding hidden references. Fair warning if you haven't seen "The Nun II" yet: Chaves talks about some of these hidden references in detail,...
