Paradise can’t last forever, it seems: The tropical action drama Almost Paradise has been cancelled after two seasons, TVLine has confirmed.
“We’re looking for a new home,” executive producer Dean Devlin tells TV Insider. “I’ve never had a show that was this successful and yet couldn’t stay at the same place more than one season.” Almost Paradise debuted on WGN America back in 2020 and then moved to Amazon Freevee for Season 2, which aired in July 2023. A source tells TVLine that when Freevee was scrapped last year, Almost Paradise became a casualty.

Each episode of Almost Paradise season 2 brings thrilling and self-contained stories, showcasing the show's procedural crime format.
Almost Paradise season 2 picked up right where the first left off, and delivered even more exciting crime action with a mix of family drama for added intrigue. Premiering in 2020, Almost Paradise follows former DEA Agent Alex Walker (Christian Kane) who continues to fight crime despite retiring to the Philippines for a simpler life. Though it debuted on the former WGN America network, Almost Paradise season 2 is available to stream on Amazon Freevee along with the first season. When Almost Paradise premiered, it was a breath of fresh air in the action genre -- but that was years ago. The series survived a lengthy hiatus, during which it moved from WGN to Amazon Freevee and is finally back for its second season. Like its hero Alex Walker, the series has overcome every hurdle without missing a step. Season 2 has all of the excitement, banter, and beautiful scenery that make this an adventure unlike any other.

Christian Kane has played essentially the same character in four delightful light crime series. In “Leverage” and its successor, “Leverage: Redemption,” he was Elliot. In “The Librarians,” he was Jake. In this incarnation, “Almost Paradise: Season 2,” he’s Alex. All have some sort of military or intelligence background to prepare them for the current undertakings. Each time Kane’s character is smarter than he looks, does his thing with a grim sense of humor, and is tougher than all he must oppose. Underneath the surface of surly, he’s noble, loyal to his colleagues, and hell-bent on helping whoever needs it. He’s always reluctant to use violence but in just about every episode of each, he has to. And does it well. 180 times, collectively. Yet even after all those cloned outings,...

[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] It’s time to go back to the island with Alex Walker (Christian Kane) on Almost Paradise. Season 2 drops on Amazon Freevee on Friday, July 21, and in these ten episodes, the former DEA agent continues to get pulled back into the world of dangerous people and situations, alongside his friends in the local police Kai Mendoza (Samantha Richelle) and Ernesto Alamares (Art Acuña). Here, Kane tells us what to expect from Alex in Season 2, including the introduction of his ex-wife (for which you can check out an exclusive sneak peek above). Almost Paradise fans, get ready for a summer with extra blessings, because season 2 is just around the corner! After season one finished airing back in mid-2020, it seemed like we might have seen the last of Alex Walker (Christian Kane) and his new detective friends Kai Mendoza (Samantha Richelle) and Ernesto Almarez (Arthur Acuña), but our favorite gang of Philippines-based crime-solvers are back on the case this July in a brand-new, ten-episode season.
In season two, Alex will be questioning his place on the island, but with the help of his trusted friends, he will discover a renewed sense of family in paradise!
“There’s never been an American series filmed in the Philippines,” star Kane told Tell-Tale TV. “I feel like we know what Korea looks like, we know what Japan looks like and we know what China looks like because we’ve seen films that they’ve been featured in.

“I’m turning over a new leaf: no stress, no drama,” ex-DEA agent Alex Walker (Christian Kane) insists in the trailer for Almost Paradise Season 2. Yes, the Kane-led drama is (finally) returning for its second season, now on Amazon Freevee, on Friday, July 21. (The first season aired on WGN America in early 2020.) All 10 episodes will be available at once. Alex’s aforementioned declaration comes as his doctor tells him, “you’ve come a long way” but warns “your hypertension can easily return.” It was his health, along with his partner’s betrayal, that first forced Alex into early retirement and brought him to the small tropical island in the Philippine archipelago. But as the first season showed, he can’t just run the gift shop in the island’s luxury resort hotel. Rather, he gets pulled back into law enforcement through cases with his friends in the local police,...

IMDb TV has announced that it has picked up a second season of “Almost Paradise,” the American-Filipino crime drama series starring Christian Kane.
Originally a WGN America show, “Almost Paradise” stars Kane as Alex Walker, a U.S. DEA agent who is betrayed by his partner and forced into an early retirement. Walker relocates to the Philippines, where he runs a gift shop in a resort hotel, and slowly gets pulled into the criminal underworld of the island. Samantha Richelle and Arthur Acuña also star. The series is notable for being the first American scripted TV production to shoot entirely in the Philippines.
“Almost Paradise” originally premiered on WGN America in March 30, 2020, before the network rebranded as NewsNation. The series is showrun by Dean Devlin and Gary Rosen, who also executive produce alongside Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson. The first season is currently available to stream for free on IMDb TV.

"He wasn't perfect, but I know he's innocent." Uncork'd & Dark Star Pictures has released an official trailer for a thriller titled Watch List, from American filmmaker Ben Rekhi. This premiered at the Seattle Film Festival last year and also played at the Deauville, Mill Valley, and Nashville Film Festivals. Described as "an intense thriller set in the world of the Filipino police and their often-violent war against drug dealers and users." Based on a true story - after her husband is mysteriously killed one night, a widowed mother of three must confront her own darkness to protect her children from further harm. Starring Arthur Acuña, Alessandra de Rossi, and Jake Macapagal. Looks one a hell of a brutal drug thriller that's a "powerful, timely" story about how governments can go too far trying to clean up drugs. And this mom is fighting back. For Dean Devlin, the idea of the new Wgn America series Almost Paradise came about 14 years ago during his honeymoon in Hawaii. He connected and was intoxicated by island culture, island justice and island spirituality — and wanted to make a show set in Hawaii. His soulful connection to island life made sense considering he is of Filipino descent. With that in mind, the idea for the show shifted.
“As the years went on and I kept thinking about it, there was something there that wasn’t authentic to me,” Devlin told Deadline. “It was only a couple of years ago that the idea came to do it in the Philippines and then it changed everything. Then I got really excited about the project.”

Production on the 10-episode series that cable net acquired from Electric Entertainment has begun in the Philippines for a spring premiere.
Kane stars as Alex Walker, a former DEA agent who was forced into early retirement. Once the DEA’s most resourceful undercover operative, the combination of his partner’s betrayal and a life-threatening battle with hypertension has sent him as far from the madness as he can go — the small tropical island of Cebu in the Philippines.
