These days, Kat Dennings can be seen playing Tim Allen's daughter in the hit ABC series Shifting Gears. However, more than two decades ago, she first played the daughter of late Full House star Bob Saget in a short-lived TV sitcom.
Back in 2001, Dennings and Saget co-starred in Raising Dad, a series that aired on The WB. In a new interview with People, Saget was remembered fondly by Dennings, who recalled how "protective" he had been with her on the set. While decades have since gone by, with Saget sadly passing away in 2022, Dennings has not forgotten the kindness that the legendary funnyman had shown her during the time they worked together on their TV show.

Friends. South Park. Frasier. Family Guy. Some of TV’s longest-running sitcoms premiered in the 1990s, and remain relevant and beloved if not still producing new episodes today. But a decade is a long time, executives try a lot of ideas to fill their schedules, and since broadcast TV programming is kind of a zero-sum game, far more sitcoms premiered than ever found an audience. The question is: which ones deserved better?
A word on methodology here: I took the term “forgotten” very literally. That means I didn’t consider any ‘90s sitcom that’s streaming on a legitimate pay or subscription platform; any ‘90s sitcom that lasted more than one season; and any of which only the pilot is available to watch — illegitimately, since pilots have to jam in so much exposition that judging a show’s quality by that episode alone doesn’t offer an accurate picture of where it aspires to go.

Robert Iler, aka Tony Soprano’s son A.J., said it best Thursday night at Tribeca Festival’s 25th anniversary The Sopranos get-together: “Now my friends are going to shitty high school reunions and I’m going to cool stuff like this.”
Tribeca tonight premiered the Alex Gibney-directed HBO documentary Wise Guy: David Chase and the Sopranos, to a packed Beacon Theatre on the upper west side of Manhattan. What Star Wars means to a Star Wars fan, this documentary is a love letter and an ultimate prized watch for Sopranos fans.
Filled not just with old audition tapes and the backstory of Chase’s inspiration (it’s all about Momma), Wise Guy gives the warts and all: How HBO CEO Chris Albrecht held an intervention for James Gandolfini with the cast in the exec’s NYC apartment (who would skip work and battle his own demons); the actor tells the suit “Fire me!

The production of "The Sopranos" is littered with unrealized castings of characters. Imagine a world where Lorraine Bracco played Carmela Soprano instead of Dr. Jennifer Melfi or Robert Funaro (aka Eugene Pontecorvo) played Ralph Cifaretto and we didn't get Joe Pantoliano's Emmy winning two-season turn. Those are both worlds that came quite close to fruition.
One of the earliest "what could have been" castings goes back to the pilot. Georgianne Walken and Sheila Jaffe, the series' casting directors, revealed on an episode of the "Talking Sopranos" podcast that the original pick for Herman "Hesh" Rabkin was a different Jerry. Instead of Jerry Adler, they were looking at Jerry Stiller. However, Stiller made a last minute decision to appear in a commercial that was shooting the same time as the "Sopranos" pilot. This last-minute back-out led to a minor crisis, as Stiller had been set to start shooting "The Sopranos" in two days' time.

Tommy Morgan, a harmonica soloist who contributed to hundreds of movie and TV shows including “Roots” and “Dances With Wolves,” died June 23. He was 89.
Morgan played on film soundtracks and record dates going back to the early 1950s. His estimated 7,000 recording sessions, according to statistics on his website, suggest that more people have heard his harmonica work than that of any other player of the instrument.
That’s Morgan’s harmonica on Quincy Jones’ “Sanford and Son” theme, Mike Post’s “Rockford Files” theme and the scores for numerous shows including “Maverick,” “The Waltons,” “The Dukes of Hazzard,” “China Beach,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Family Guy.”
He played on the Emmy-winning score for “Roots” and its sequel, “Roots: The Next Generations.” And his bass harmonica was the signature sound of Arnold Ziffel, the pig on “Green Acres.”

It’s time for the punks to meet the godfathers. The creators of SopranosCon merged with MobMovieCon for a family celebration. From July 23 to July 25, Harrah’s Resort & Casino in Atlantic City will house the boardwalk’s biggest gangster gathering since Nucky Johnson hosted the mob’s Atlantic City Conference in 1929.
“Al Capone will not be coming though,” VirtualCons CEO Michael Mota tells Den of Geek. “Those were the mobsters. I would say this would be the biggest gathering of mobster wannabes.” The Sopranos fan convention has come a long way since it was dreamed up by three gangster movie aficionados from New York, Maryland, and Rhode Island. The 2019 SopranosCon drew thousands of fans from as far as The Netherlands and the United Kingdom to the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus. Howard Franklin’s absorbing tale of the New York underworld is told from the point of view of a night-prowling shutterbug who documents life on the streets, from the swanky nightclubs to gangland killings on the cold sidewalks. Joe Pesci has his most endearing role in a part suggested by the famous photographer Weegee, a small man with artistic ambitions for his ‘found photos’ of party revelers and bloody corpses. Is Barbara Hershey’s club owner using him for selfish purposes? What happens if the hoods suddenly regard him as a hindrance, instead of a boost to their egos? The colorful production elicits a richly atmospheric image of New York in wartime. The biggest surprise: Pesci’s dialogue is all PG-rated! (The movie itself is an ‘R’.) With David Gianapoulos, Jared Harris, Stanley Tucci and Jerry Adler.

You might be craving those loud, brash, blowed-up-real-good blockbusters that’d normally lay claim to half the screens of multiplexes this month. It’s almost the beginning of summer, and who has the willpower to fight that seasonal Pavlovian urge? (Just watch out for any action movie in which A-list stars are in a race against time with a killer virus. Still too soon.) Or maybe, during this particularly dark timeline we’re stuck in, you’re in need of something more intimate, intricate and attuned to human interactions — “smaller...

The gangsters on HBO’s classic mob series The Sopranos never shied from their charitable duties. That’s what Mafiosi have done since the very beginning of their loose organization. Tony Soprano’s crew took care of the blessed statue for the Feast of Elzéar of Sabran. The family’s pork-store front had a Satriale’s Christmas party tradition going all the way back to Tony’s father, who wore a Santa Claus suit himself to give back to the kids of the neighborhood. SopanosCon, the annual convention which celebrates the series, is no different. They announced SopranosCon Cares, a live benefit tele-con to benefit First Responders’ Children’s Foundation.
SopranosCon was slated to be a special segment of MobMovieCon, which was scheduled to take place at Harrah’s Resort and Casino in Atlantic City, on April 18, 2020. But the Covid-19 pandemic forced it, and all group gatherings to be postponed or cancelled.

Before there was Must-See TV, there was Mad About You.
Twenty-five years ago this fall, NBC assembled the foundation of what would be one of the best and most popular programming blocs in TV history. Seinfeld was already entrenched at 9 P.M., while Mad About You — a sitcom starring Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt as the happily married Paul and Jamie Buchman — was entering its second season leading off what had long been TV’s most profitable night (and its third season overall). The comparisons are inevitable, so we might as well get them out of the way: “Good Girls Get High” sounds a lot like “Booksmart” because, well, it is a lot like “Booksmart.” But if its heroines can co-exist as joint valedictorians, there’s no reason we can’t embrace a pair of like-minded comedies about brainy teens who decide to go wild before high school ends.

“Mad About You” is welcoming back another alum for its upcoming revival on Spectrum Originals. Carol Burnett will reprise her role as Theresa Stemple, the mother of Helen Hunt’s Jamie.
The revival of the 1990s-era NBC sitcom, starring Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt, will debut its first six episodes ad-free on Nov. 20, with the later six dropping on Dec. 18. Anne Ramsay and Jerry Adler are also returning.
Charter’s Spectrum ordered the limited series back in March. According to Spectrum, the series will explore the fertile ground of modern marriage through the eyes of the Buchmans as newly minted empty-nesters after dropping their unpredictable, hard-to-control daughter Mabel (Abby Quinn) off at college.
Peter Tolan will serve as showrunner as well as executive producer and writer for the series and Hunt will direct the first episode. Danny Jacobson, who co-created the show with Reiser serving as an executive consultant.

“Will & Grace,” “Roseanne,” “Murphy Brown” and now “Mad About You.” The list of multicamera revivals is only continuing to grow, although unlike the first three on this list, “Mad About You’s” return will be for Spectrum, rather than its original home, NBC.
But the network is one of few things that has changed. The series reunites original stars Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser as Jamie and Paul Buchman, respectively, a married couple living in New York City. Original series regulars such as Anne Ramsay, Richard Kind and Jerry Adler will also appear in the new batch of 12 episodes. The production team painstakingly recreated the Buchmans’ apartment, and the key to the storytelling will be the relationship tension, according to Hunt.

In the sensitive, suburbia-set indie “Driveways,” a single mother drags her 8-year-old son cross-country to empty out the house of her packrat older sister, newly deceased. It’s a chore for her, but an opportunity for the kid to do a bit of growing up, courtesy of the Korean War veteran living next door. At first, the old fella watches the newcomers with suspicion, deciding whether to help, or to go all Clint-Eastwood-in-“Gran Torino” on them and growl, “Get off my lawn!” But in time, the initially standoffish man reaches out in a gesture of neighborly goodwill, revealing “Driveways” to be that uncommon and all-too-welcome gift — like some kind of fragile wildflower, emerging tentatively through cracks in the concrete: a film about kindness.

It isn’t easy making a film like Driveways stand out. We have walked these streets so often before. We know the twists and turns. We expect the darker corners. Yet stand out is exactly what Driveways does. The movie is a bittersweet coming-of-age story about the intergenerational, interracial friendship of an 83-year-old veteran of the Korean war and an Asian-American boy just about to turn 9, who arrives into town with his single mother and considerable emotional baggage.
Driveways is directed by Andrew Ahn, an Angeleno producer-turned-filmmaker whose previous film Spa Night earned an acting award for Joe Seo at Sundance 2016. While the Berlinale is simply too big for anyone to know if this 2019 was a “good” or “bad” year for the annual über-festival, this edition was highlighted by several of the best and most exciting films that have premiered in Potsdamer Platz in recent memory. The Competition section boasted a career-best offering from Nadav Lapid, a career-topping retrospective from Agnès Varda, and a career-redefining journalistic drama from François Ozon. But the cream of the crop wasn’t contained to a single portion of the lineup, as the Panorama and Forum sections also played host to a handful of films that will continue to make waves on the festival circuit for the rest of the year. As is often the case at the Berlinale, many of the standout films were still without American distribution by the time the festival came to an end. From the masterful Golden Bear winner to a...

They say less is always more, but in the case of movies, there is always the danger of leaving so much unsaid that you’re left with nothing much at all. While restraint is generally a wise approach to storytelling, it runs the risk of leaving a narrative so spare the audience cannot connect. In “Driveways,” director Andrew Ahn trusts his actors to fill in the considerable gaps in Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen’s minimalist script. But actors, even ones as brilliant as these, are not magicians; they cannot create meaning from nowhere. Ahn guides his gentle second feature with a measured hand, but he and his adorable kid protagonist can’t jolt the sleepy narrative out of its familiar comfort zone.

With more than 300 films in its program and 500,000 attendees coming to watch them, the Berlinale is the world’s largest film festival. The 69th edition — the last under the guidance of festival director Dieter Kosslick, who’s overseen the launch of major recent movies like Mia Hansen-Løve’s “Things to Come,” Wes Anderson’s “Isle of Dogs,” and Asghar Farhadi’s “A Separation” — is set to kick off this Thursday with the world premiere of Lone Scherfig’s star-studded “The Kindness of Strangers,” and will continue until the following weekend, when Juliette Binoche’s jury awards the prestigious Golden Bear to the film that emerges victorious from the festival’s Competition section.

CBS All Access and CBS Television Studios recently sent TV academy members an Emmy Fyc mailer highlighting the best episodes of the second season of “The Good Fight.” The shrewdly themed package arrived to voters in a “confidential” manila envelop that teased, “golden shower tapes enclosed,” a tongue-in-cheek reference to the highly political tone of Season 2. Inside the envelope the sleek red, white and black tri-fold booklet highlights the nine series regular cast members with striking black-and-white photos, and gives the largest spotlight to series star Christine Baranski, who contends for a nomination for Best Drama Actress.

The first trailer for the second season of “The Good Fight” is here — and it’s insane. At least that’s the word Diane (Christine Baranski) uses to describe her new world order: “I don’t know what’s going on in the world anymore. Not just bad. It’s insane.” Watch the uncensored trailer above.
The pulsing trailer teases the firm’s new partner and Adrian’s (Delroy Lindo) ex-wife Liz Reddick-Lawrence (Audra McDonald), with whom Diane will go toe-to-toe; Howard Lyman (Jerry Adler) as a judge (!); Maya’s (Rose Leslie) dad Henry (Paul Guilfoyle) still in the wind; and a copycat killer going around town murdering lawyers. The lawyer killer has everyone so spooked that guest star Rob Reiner, playing a judge, dropping a case file on the floor makes every legal eagle in a courthouse duck for cover.

There is a lot of casting news today, a premiere date, a trailer and an order for more episodes.
So many little details to cover, so let's get started!
Starz announced Hannah James and Tanya Reynolds will be playing the Dunsany sisters, Geneva and Isobel, on Outlander Season 3. James (right) will be Geneva, who is beautiful and headstrong, but also petulant, spoiled and demanding, while Reynolds (left) will be Isobel, described as warm, friendly, and inherently more likeable.
Season 3 follows the plot of Voyager, focusing on Claire's struggle to live without Jamie in 1948 and Jamie's life after the Battle of Culloden without Claire.
Or, essentially, all the parts we missed before Claire took her daughter to Scotland and learned Jamie had survived the battle and looked longingly at the stones, knowing where she needed to be.

Not every TV show benefits from the binge-viewing model that Netflix and Amazon are building their streaming video businesses around. Some shows like "Mad Men" are better off being consumed only an episode a week, with plenty of time in between to savor and analyze what just happened. Others like "Homeland" (at its best) or even Netflix's flagship drama "House of Cards," traffic in crazy plot twists and cliffhangers that can lose their potency when you have the ability to immediately load up the next installment. But plenty of series improve greatly when watched in rapid succession, whether they were made with this new model in mind or not. In some cases, like "The Wire," it's incredibly useful to see a lot of episodes in a row just to figure out who the hell everybody is and what they're doing. In other cases, like "Parks and Recreation" or Amazon's new "Mozart in the Jungle,...

The much-anticipated dramatic comedy series Mozart in the Jungle has finally arrived — unveiling all ten episodes on Amazon Prime today.
Already landing on New York Times’ TV critic Mike Hale’s “10 Best TV Shows of 2014” list, Mozart will take you behind the scenes of the New York Symphony, where artistic dedication collides with politics, romance and survival instincts.
Gael Garcia Bernal (Rosewater) stars as the brilliant and rash new maestro hired to shake up the symphony and make it relevant to a new generation, leading a cast of co-stars that include Saffron Burrows (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Hannah Dunne (Frances Ha), Lola Kirke (Gone Girl), Malcolm McDowell (The Mentalist) and Peter Vack (I Just Want My Pants Back).
Roman Coppola teamed up with Jason Schwartzman to bring the series to life, adapting the racy 2005 memoir of former New York Symphony musician Blair Tindall. “When Jason first brought me the book, Mozart in the Jungle,...

Larry David admitted the odds are against another season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, telling Bill Simmons in a recent chat with Grantland the line is about "six to one." The Good Wife, Season 6, Episode 6: “Old Spice”
Written by Leonard Dick
Directed by James Whitmore, Jr.
Airs Sundays at 9pm on CBS
For all of the huge life changes Alicia Florrick has had to endure over the course of The Good Wife’s five-and-change seasons, one character trait has always remained: her atheism. Alicia has never had the inclination towards belief in a higher power – at least, not one beyond the earthly plane. If anything, the years have made her ever more ruthlessly pragmatic as a matter of necessity. Her work and interpersonal relationships have been so toxic for so long that the notion of a loving, interventionist man upstairs has never been an option for her. Though many fans have long complained of the subplots given to Grace, Alicia’s pious daughter, their relationship proves to be the most fascinating aspect of “Old Spice,” an odd and somewhat...
