Kevin Smith broke into Hollywood with his iconic indie comedy, Clerks, back in 1994. Almost thirty years later, the indie icon brought audiences back to the iconic Quick Stop Convenience Store with Clerks III, which will find a new streaming home on Nov. 21.
Clerks III will be available to stream on Peacock starting Nov. 21. Released almost thirty years after Clerks, the third film once again centers around Randal and Dante, but this time life gets a tad more serious for the owners of the iconic Quick Stop. After suffering a heart attack, Randal and Dante finally pursue their dreams of making a film together, choosing to shoot it in black and white and setting it at the Quick Stop Convenience Store, mirroring the real-life production of the first film. The year was 1994 and a blossoming filmmaker from New Jersey was riding on a wing and a prayer when he released Clerks, a comedy film released completely in black-and-white. That director was Kevin Smith, who, whether he realized it or not, was starting a cinematic universe through this low-budget production. Starring Brian OHalloran, Jeff Anderson, Jason Mewes, Smith and more, the movie centered on O'Halloran's Dante Hicks, a convenience store clerk, and Andersons Randal Graves, a clerk at a video store, as well as the friends and eccentric personalities who popped into their shop's day in and day out.

Kevin Smith has released a never-before-seen, behind-the-scenes video from his breakout film, Clerks. The 1994 comedy follows convenience store employee Dante (Brian OHalloran) and video store worker Randall (Jeff Anderson) as they deal with the minutia of day-to-day convenience store life, as well as coping with the likes of drug dealers Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith). Clerks was a hit with critics and audiences alike, launching Smith's career as a filmmaker, and creating a body of work that has lasted for three decades.
The video, posted to Smiths YouTube channel, starts with a montage of the director slating a series of shots with the clapperboard, followed by a series of outtakes, bloopers, and unused takes. The footage also includes shots of the original ending, in which the convenience store is robbed, and Dante is shot and killed. After behind-the-scenes footage is done, Smith addresses the camera, sharing how the...

Kevin Smith spoke about his friendship with the late actor Alan Rickman after making Dogma, which was Smith's fourth film. In the 1999 movie, Rickman played an angel named Metatron, who helped guide Bethany Sloane (Linda Fiorentino) to stop the fallen angels Bartleby (Ben Affleck) and Loki (Matt Damon). The film also starred Chris Rock and Salma Hayek, as well as Jason Mewes and Smith as Jay and Silent Bob.
While speaking with GQ, Smith talked about already being a fan of Rickman for his work in the original Die Hard film, where he played the villain Hans Gruber. While Smith was getting prepared to cast Dogma, he was told by an executive from Miramax that Rickman asked about what the director of Chasing Amy was doing next. Smith then cast Rickman as Metatron in the film. Read his account below:

The month may still be in its early days, but fans of Kevin Smiths Clerks are already getting the most out of it. This is so because ComicBook reports that Clerks is currently streaming for free on Pluto, three decades following its theatrical release and, without a doubt, serving as the perfect watch for the season. Released in 1994, Clerks is the first of Smiths View Askewniverse films and stars the filmmaker along with Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Marilyn Ghigliotti, Lisa Spoonauer, Jason Mewes, and Scott Mosier.

Currently, Clerks is streaming for free on Pluto TV. The film, which was the first movie directed by Kevin Smith, was originally released in 1994. Due to its low budget, the film was shot in black and white and primarily takes place in and around a real-life convenience store in New Jersey. It is also the first movie to introduced Smith as Silent Bob alongside Jason Mewes as Jay, launching what would come to be known as the View Askewniverse.

Clerks: The Animated Series was never given a fair shake during its initial run, but it would undeniably make a perfect fit in the age of streaming.
While the film came early in Smith's career and was hindered by a low budget, it was nevertheless a hit due to its critical acclaim.

Kevin Smith is back with his latest film, The 4:30 Movie. This semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story follows a group of teenagers as they spend a day at their local movie theater, with one teen's ultimate goal being every teenager's dream date: taking a girl to an R-rated movie. The film stars a group of young actors in the lead roles, with a plethora of "View Askew Regulars" in supporting cameo roles, including Jason Mewes, Justin Long, Rosario Dawson, Jason Lee, and Jeff Anderson, just to name a few.
While not set in Kevin Smith's "View Askewniverse" cinematic universe, The 4:30 Movie still has plenty to offer to fans of the indie auteur. The film owes much of its existence to Smith's Smodcast podcast and the saga of "Emo Kev" from the 1980s, and longtime fans will find plenty of inside jokes to reward their decades of fandom. Kevin Smith shares his thoughts on removing the original dark ending of Clerks. Smith's first film, Clerks, was released in 1994. The movie stars Brian O'Halloran as Dante Hicks and Jeff Anderson as Randal Graves, two best friends who work at Quick Stop Groceries and Rst Video. Clerks was later followed by two sequels and was also the first installment in Smith's View Askewniverse.
While speaking with GQ, Smith talks about being convinced to cut Clerks' original ending. Initially, the film shows a robber coming to Quick Stop and shooting Dante, who then dies. Smith details how Producer's Rep John Pierson told him he needed to remove the ending. Pierson believed the reason Smith killed off the character was because he didn't have a better way to end the movie.

When Kevin Smith made "Clerks" in 1994, he was only 23 and ignorant of the ways of filmmaking. Smith was inspired to make a movie by Richard Linklater's "Slacker," figuring he could write a fun screenplay based on the way he and his friend conversed. Made for only $27,575, "Clerks" was about witty but directionless twentysomethings as they struggled through their romantic angst while trapped at their dead-end jobs. "Clerks" struck a nerve with Gen-Xers, introducing a certain type of pop culture chatter that hadn't really been heard in movies before. It was a huge hit.
Smith returned in 1995 with "Mallrats," another single-day movie about twentysomethings wrestling with their romances and emotional immaturity. His 1997 film "Chasing Amy" was an unconventional romance about a straight man who falls in love with a lesbian, and how the lesbian may be developing feelings for him in exchange. Ultimately, however, the straight man's sexual insecurity causes their relationship to implode.

Acclaimed filmmaker Kevin Smith breaks down how a bit part in Scream 3 led him to make Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Smith went over every single movie that he has been a part of, including Scream 3 which, unbeknownst to him at the time, would become one of the biggest moments of his entire career. "So, we were asked by the folks at Miramax, 'Hey man, do you want to pop up in the next Scream movie as Jay and Silent Bob?' And they were like, 'Wes is into it,' meaning Craven," Smith recalled. "And you've got to remember most of the movies I made, all the movies I made, none of them were on a lot. So as we walked around the sound stages I was like, 'This would be f---ing dope man - make a whole movie like on a sound stage.

While a lot of people plan their own funerals to save their families the pain and stress, Kevin Smith has planned his own In Memoriam section at the Oscars to save the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences the trouble although they might not be happy about his choice. As well as appearing on-screen as Silent Bob for 30 years, Kevin Smith is responsible for directing some of the most beloved, gross-out stoner movies of all-time. Clerks, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Zack and Miri Make a Porno are among some of Smith's most-beloved and vulgar movies. But, Smith's chosen scene from Clerks II trumps them all as the grossest, and perhaps the most on-brand choice for his moment.

In another world, The 4:30 Movie might have been named ‘Movierats’. Kevin Smith has long told tales of New Jersey kids simply hanging out, be it at the local shop (Clerks), the local fast-food restaurant (Clerks II), or the local mall (Mallrats). Here, he takes that template and applies it to the local multiplex — what better love-letter to cinema than a film set almost entirely at the cinema? And more specifically, the cinema of Smith’s own youth, which he now owns and operates as Smodcastle Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands, NJ? Disappointingly, for all the promise in the premise, it rarely projects in quite the way you’d hope.
In typical Smith style, this is very much a story from the heart, remixing personal experience in cinematic form — lead character Brian David (a charming and engaging Austin Zajur) is a clear Kevin Smith stand-in, a deeply nerdy kid with a passion for cinema,...

As Hollywood attempts to keep up with the ever-changing face of streaming, Kevin Smith has gotten into the movie theater business.
The director’s latest film is The 4:30 Movie, which serves as a love letter to small-town cinemas. It came at a time when he was feeling “existential” about being “one more goofy-ass tile to this never-ending wall” of film and television content on streaming platforms.
“I know it’s hard out there. It’s always been hard,” he said. “That’s the one thing I could say. But it’s worth the struggle. It’s worth the fight. Like, it’s worth making that tile, man, because that tile winds up being all the difference in some person’s life you’ll never meet.
“I meet people who tell you wonderful things about movies you’ve made years ago that other people lambast, and they’re like: ‘That’s my favorite movie.

The 4:30 Movie, the sixteenth feature film from director Kevin Smith, is now in theatres (you can read a review by JoBlo’s own Alex Maidy at This Link), and to mark the occasion we have decided to look back over Smith’s entire directing career and assemble a list of Kevin Smith Movies Ranked, from #16 to #1. This list doesn’t represent everything Smith has done; you won’t find movies he did uncredited rewrites on (like Overnight Delivery) or wrote for someone else to direct (Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie), or even the segment he contributed to the anthology horror film Holidays. For this list, we’re only covering the features that had him at the helm. And here we go…

"For you, movies make life make sense." Yes, we're talking to you. And fine, maybe it's also a poignant movie quote from The 4:30 Movie, Kevin Smith's new passion project of a feature that hits the masses this week. Sadly, you won't see the charming New Jersey native on the big screen in this one, though Smith is certainly not done starring in movies. A third Jay & Silent Bob film is in the works, and as the hilarious trailer for The 4:30 Movie suggests, there will "probably" be a Clerks IV down the line, which could certainly feature a Silent Bob cameo. Why not?
In the meantime, soak up this innocent delight from Smith's video store-generation mind, for it's a purposeful and confident nod to the '80s and also to Smith's childhood and hometown, where the film is set. Heck, the real-life Smith even owns the cineplex...

For the last few years, Kevin Smith has been fascinated by exploring his past. Nostalgia isnt new for Smith, who has returned to his old favorite characters time and time again, and his films have always been filled with discussions of entertainment from decades prior. But ever since his heart attack in 2018, Smith has been even more reflective on his life, which has certainly come through in his films. In 2019s Jay and Silent Reboot, Smith directly addressed the beauty of being a father by giving one of his most iconic characters, Jay (Jason Mewes), an estranged daughter, and also seemed to question his involvement in telling a story like Chasing Amy. In Smiths last film, 2022s Clerks III, Smith returned to the characters that he started his film career with, having Randal (Jeff Anderson) and Dante (Brian OHalloran) make their own movie in the Quick Stop, while also having...

Kevin Smith returns with a new movie, and the options for where to watch The 4:30 Movie in theaters or on streaming vary. 30 years after his breakout movie Clerks, Kevin Smith is still one of Hollywood's beloved voices as he's developed the View Askewniverse. Established with Clerks in 1994, View Askewniverse refers to the multimedia empire that Kevin Smith built from the ground up as an indie filmmaker. In addition to the movies featuring Jay and Silent Bob, View Askew has expanded its reach across comic books, podcasts, and TV shows for its dedicated fanbase.
View Askew's ninth feature film, Clerks III, was released in 2023 and showed Kevin Smith fans how much Dante and Randall have evolved over the years. As the View Askewniverse grows, it's worth chronicling the entire View Askew watch order from beginning to end to chart Smith's artistic growth as a cinematic storyteller.

Jay and Silent Bob are bringing rudeness and lewdness back to the big screen for a third time, and Kevin Smith has revealed the title for the eagerly-anticipated threequel. The iconic weed-smoking duo, played by Jason Mewes and Smith respectively, first appeared in Smith's debut feature, Clerks. The duo have since reemerged in most of Smith's films, including Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma. Not content with being sidelined, the pair also starred in two standalone movies, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
Appearing at San Diego Comic Con, actor, writer, and director Smith revealed that a third Jay and Silent Bob film is in the works. The new film has been given the official title, Jay and Silent Bob: Store Wars. Smith didn't reveal too much about the movie, which is currently in early development. The new film has been given the official title, Jay and Silent Bob: Store Wars. Smith didn't reveal too much about the movie, which is currently in early development. However, he did tease View Askew fans with a rough outline for the film.

Kevin Smith is taking audiences back to the 1980s in the first trailer for the coming-of-age comedy, The 4:30 Movie. Along with debuting the trailer, Smith also shared the official poster for the film.
Smith, who has been delving back into his View Askewniverse in recent years, has officially released the new trailer for The 4:30 Movie, via his social media platforms. Smith originally premiered the first trailer for the film during his Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. The film is a love-letter to his movie-loving youth, and was even shot at his childhood theater that he recently purchased, Smodcastle Cinemas. While his recent films have centered around his beloved 90s characters, The 4:30 Movie boasts a new cast, albeit with some familiar Smith movie regulars. The 4:30 Movies stars Austin Zajur, Nicolas Cirillo, Reed Northrup, Siena Agudong, Ken Jeong, Sam Richardson, Genesis Rodriguez, and Justin Long.

There are many forgotten animated TV series with unique identities waiting to be rediscovered by audiences. Shows like Clerks: The Animated Series and Ugly Americans offer clever humor and social commentary. Xiaolin Showdown was a hidden gems that expertly blended Eastern and Western cultures with humor.
Its incredible how many excellent animated TV series have been produced that audiences have forgotten about. With such a wealth of viewing options available across traditional television and streaming, fantastic shows have continually been doomed to obscurity as the conversation around the greatest animated series has been dominated by just a few heavy hitters. While it can sometimes take some digging to find underappreciated animated series, there are so many hidden gems for audiences to enjoy.
So many TV shows never got the attention they deserved, and this can just as easily be applied to the world of animation. While certain series reached large...

A woman who claims Marilyn Manson groomed and sexually assaulted her multiple times in the 1990s – starting when she was still a minor – is speaking publicly for the first time. In a new statement released Monday, the woman says she felt “empowered” to step forward with her full identity after a recent ruling in one of her two lawsuits against the shock rocker filed in New York and Louisiana.

Who says 1994 was a classic year for cinema? Netflix begins today to make that argument, curating a release of 17 films that turned 30 this year. The streamer has its list below. I have mine, and with the exception of the seminal Farrelly Brothers-directed Dumb & Dumber with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, and Luc Besson’s Leon: The Professional, the film that stars Jean Reno and a sinister Gary Oldman and introduced the world to the outsized talent Natalie Portman, and maybe Ron Howard’s The Paper, there’s a lot missing. How about Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, The Lion King, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Clear and Present Danger, Sicario, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Interview With the Vampire, Speed, Ed Wood, and the other two films in a starmaking year for Jim Carrey, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Mask. A federal judge dismissed a sexual assault lawsuit filed against CEO Neil Portnow in 2023 over a week after the Jane Doe accuser who filed the suit requested the dismissal.
The accuser’s allegations against Portnow first surfaced in January 2020 as part of his successor Deborah Dugan’s discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission after she was ousted just over a week before the 62nd Grammy Awards.

Shaun and his best mate Ed are in trouble. They’ve discovered two zombies in their garden, and the lumbering flesh-eaters show no signs of stopping. However, Shaun and Ed have found one way of slowing the approach: throwing records.
And so, as the two zombies grow closer, Ed and Shaun rustle through the latter’s collection. “Sign o’ the Times … Purple Rain,” Ed suggests as projectiles, only to have Shaun tell him no. That is until Ed reaches a low point in Prince’s discography, the Batman soundtrack. “Throw it,” Shaun commands, striking a blow against the living dead.
The above scene is just one instance of the humor and horror that director Edgar Wright and his co-writer Simon Pegg bring to the RomZomCom Shaun of the Dead, released twenty years ago. Shaun (Pegg) and Ed (Nick Frost) spend a lot of time discussing their pop-cultural interests, even in the most dire situations.

A California lawsuit alleging Steven Tyler sexually abused a 16-year-old girl in the 1970s is moving ahead in a slightly reduced form after a successful challenge from the Aerosmith singer.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Ronald F. A New York lawsuit accusing Steven Tyler of sexually assaulting a model in the Seventies was dismissed on Wednesday, according to court documents reviewed by Rolling Stone.
Judge Lewis Kaplan ruled that plaintiff Jeanne Bellino’s case failed to meet the criteria for New York’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act because Bellino didn’t allege that Tyler had presented “a serious risk of physical injury” to her.

There was a time when Kevin Smith was regarded as being one of the definitive filmmakers of Generation X. His feature directing debut on the shoestring-budgeted 1994 indie hit "Clerks" suggested Smith not only had a firm understanding of the slacker mentality that afflicted so many people in his age bracket, but he was also shrewd enough to be critical of it. The film centers on disgruntled Quick Stop Groceries clerk Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran) and those in his immediate vicinity, including his equally-cynical, unmotivated best friend Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) and the off-beat drug dealers that loiter outside the store: loud-mouthed horny miscreant Jay (Jason Mewes) and his reserved yet secretly wise companion Silent Bob (Smith). As colorful as these characters were, they also felt like real people you could imagine Smith knew growing up on his home turf of New Jersey.

Ready to relive all the best moments from that nostalgic Quick Stop convenience store? We can pretty much guarantee that there won't be a better way to watch the entire "Clerks" trilogy, short of marathoning them with Kevin Smith himself. Incredibly enough, the beloved franchise was capped by last year's extremely meta "Clerks III." Following the exploits of Randal (Jeff Anderson) and Dante (Brian O'Halloran), the threequel completes the story of the two best friends and their attempts to basically make the first "Clerks" movie, based on their own experiences in the "Clerks" universe. It's hilarious, heart-warming, and oh-so-personal, as /Film's Danielle Ryan reviewed at the time.

Last year, Kevin Smith brought us a new installment in the "Clerks" film series, the comedy franchise that began with a black-and-white indie gem at the Sundance Film Festival back in 1994. "Clerks III" was the filmmaker's most meta chapter of the View Askewniverse yet, and after "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," that's saying something. The film follows Randal (Jeff Anderson) wanting to do something more significant with his life, which leads him to write and direct a movie about the time he's spent with his best friend Dante (Brian O'Halloran) as a clerk at both the Quick Stop convenience store and the Mooby's fast food restaurant. Basically, it's a movie about Kevin Smith making the original "Clerks" but set within the "Clerks" cinematic universe.

Another woman is coming forward with a sexual assault lawsuit against Steven Tyler.
The 75-year-old Aerosmith frontman has been accused of assaulting Jeanne Bellino twice in one day in 1975, according to her suit filed on Thursday (November 2) in New York City.

Danny Elfman has once again been sued for sexual harassment, per The Hollywood Reporter.

With the October debut of a new Transformers series as part of Skybound's Energon Universe, now is a great time to look back at the rich history of Transformers comics. Ranging across many publishers, authors, and reboots, Transformers stories are notable for taking characters and concepts from previous iterations and giving them fresh spins in modern stories. This creates an evolving lore of great depth despite originating as nothing more than advertising for toys.
From action packed slugfests to dystopian drama, Transformers comics often contain multiple genres within one long story. With varied artists and passionate authors, at their best Transformers comics are metaphors for the human world of the reader. Bill Cosby is facing another sexual assault lawsuit, this one filed by Linda Ridgway-Whitedeer, who accused the disgraced actor of forcing her to perform oral sex on him during an audition in 1971.
Ridgway-Whitedeer, 77, was part of an early wave of Cosby accusers, first accusing him of assault in 2015. This is the first time, however, that Ridgway-Whitedeer has taken legal action against Cosby, filing her lawsuit under a California law passed last year that allows adult sexual assault survivors to take alleged abusers to court no matter how long ago the incident occurred.

Danny Elfman is singing a different tune after sexual harassment allegations have been made public.
A new report by Rolling Stone revealed that Elfman settled a sexual harassment claim for $830,000 in 2018. Composer and musical prodigy Nomi Abadi alleged in July 2018 that mentor Elfman repeatedly exposed himself to her, sent disturbing text messages, and masturbated multiple times in her presence without her consent. A Los Angeles Police Department report at the time cited “indecent exposure” in the case. Elfman’s attorney has refuted the claims.
Abadi is now suing Elfman five years later over Elfman allegedly failing to pay the settlement fee in whole. Per court documents, Abadi “agreed to resolve an underlying dispute which included terms that [Elfman] would make payments in four different categories in various installments over the course of five years totaling $830,000.00.” Elfman did not pay two $42,500 installments in both July 2019 and July 2021, per the filing.
