"In the Heat of the Night" TV show was a sequel to the movie and dealt with themes of racism and police brutality. Lead actor Carroll O'Connor won Emmy Awards for his roles in the show and "All in the Family." Several cast members, including Howard Rollins and Hugh O'Connor, tragically passed away after the show.

The In the Heat of the Night TV show featured a large ensemble cast of characters, though sadly, as the years have gone by there have been a number of deaths in the cast. A TV adaptation of the 1967 movie starring Sidney Poitier in a career-best performance, which itself is based on the 1965 book of the same name by John Ball, In the Heat of the Night premiered in 1988 on NBC and moved to CBS after season 5, airing on the network from season 6 until its final season 8.

Here’s what Willis is talkin’ about. Jimmy Kimmel and Norman Lear are bringing back their “Live in Front of a Studio Audience” franchise for a third edition this December, and this time they’ll be taking on the iconic sitcom “Diff’rent Strokes’ and its spin-off, “The Facts of Life.”

Already cast in the “Diff’rent Strokes” installment are John Lithgow as Mr.Drummond, Kevin Hart playing Arnold, Damon Wayans as Willis and Ann Dowd as Mrs. Garrett. The cast of “The Facts of Life” will be revealed at a later date.

“Live in Front of a Studio Audience: ‘The Facts of Life’ and ‘Diff’rent Strokes'” will air Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Et, followed by the premiere of new workplace comedy “Abbott Elementary.” Lear is back to executive produce and host with Kimmel. Also executive producing: Brent Miller, Kerry Washington, Will Ferrell, Justin Theroux and Jim Burrows.

This weekend marks the much-noted 50th anniversary of “The French Connection’s” release. “The Manor” perhaps inadvertently stirs memories of another William Friedkin joint, 1990 horror “The Guardian,” which was so disliked by the director that he omitted mentioning it in his otherwise fairly comprehensive memoirs. This addition to the second “Welcome to the Blumhouse” quartet of genre features likewise offers an evil tree-entity, to perhaps less campily absurd results — which is both a good and a bad thing.

Writer-director Axelle Carolyn’s second solo feature (following 2013’s ghost story “Soulmate”) provides a welcome starring vehicle for Barbara Hershey, who hasn’t had one in some years. But . Fran Bennett, a veteran actress who taught voice and acting at CalArts for 36 years, died over the weekend, the school announced. She was 84.

Known for her booming voice, Bennett was a member of the Linklater Voice faculty at CalArts from 1978 until her retirement in 2014. She also served as head of acting and director of performance from 1996 to 2003.

Amazon on Thursday revealed the next four films to be released next year as part of its “Welcome to the Blumhouse” series. The first four genre movies in the collection launched on Prime Video this month.

Just like the first four films of the program, the next group represents four unique stories that are connected by common themes, including institutional horrors and personal phobias. The “social thrillers,” as Amazon terms them, are helmed by up-and-coming directors.

“Coming off the successful launch of the first four films of the program, which has surpassed our expectations, we are excited to reveal the next chapter coming in 2021,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “The spine-tingling, edge of your seat thrills continues in this next collection of titles that will surely entertain, surprise and shock our global customers.”

Sarah Snook (Spirited) stars as a young woman recuperating from a terrible car wreck at her family home in Louisiana who finds herself haunted by a long-tormented spirit. Somewhat surprisingly, the film was written by Reno 911! co-creator/writer Robert Ben Garant. As promised, Lionsgate just dropped the first trailer for Jessabelle, a new supernatural thriller due out in August from Blumhouse Productions.

The schools of Theater and Film/Video will be hosting a screening of the award-winning movie Mississippi Damned tomorrow, Monday, May 10, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. in the Bijou Theater at California Institute of the Arts, 24700 McBean Parkway, Valencia, Ca 91355.

The screening will be followed by a Q & A moderated by Fran Bennett, Voice Faculty, with Writer/Director Tina Mabry, Director/Producer Morgan Stiff and actress Simbi Khali Williams.

The story goes… Wanting to escape was the easy part. Mississippi Damned is based on a true story and takes place in 1986 and 1998. Three poor black kids in rural Mississippi reap the consequences of their family’s struggle to escape their circumstances and must decide whether to confront what’s plagued their family for generations or succumb to the same crippling fate, forever damned in Mississippi. Having been bent over the proverbial barrel by Platinum Dunes’ groan-inducing desecration of the classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, we can at least turn our attention to tomorrow’s release of Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy to wash the foul taste of failure from our mouths.

I recently had the pleasure of talking to some of the folks involved with this documentary - directors Daniel Farrands and Andrew Kasch, and writer Thommy Hutson – and while we all wait patiently for the epic documentary’s release on May 4th, this little conversation should help tide you over while subsequently whetting your Freddy infused palate.

Dread Central: Never Sleep Again was a big labor of love for everyone involved. Where did your love of A Nightmare on Elm Street begin?

Thommy: I loved Noes from the first time I saw it. It was a movie I couldn’t go to,...

We could tell you that because of Halloween looming and the myriad of other things going on, we skipped bringing you the Never Sleep Again Twitterfeed from last Friday. However, there were some other exciting things going on that we saved to bring you along with it.

First and foremost, Mark Patton (Jesse from Nightmare 2) has been found and will be doing his exclusive interview next Monday! It took forever to track him down, but now that we have, it's on, baby!
