James Gunn's new DC Universe officially kickstarts later this year with the animated series Creature Commandos. The ragtag group of incarcerated supernaturals shares a lot of similarities with Gunn's most popular team of cinematic superheroes, the Guardians of the Galaxy, but the director says there is one key difference between the two squads. An off-shoot of Task Force X (better known as the Suicide Squad), the Creature Commandos are Amanda Waller's undead division of anti-heros.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly to promote the upcoming series, Gunn was asked about the obvious ties between the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Creature Commandos. The filmmaker didn't deny that the two shared thematic similarities, labeling them both as "oddballs and irregular types." However, Gunn explained that the biggest difference between the two teams is their morality. He said:

Ahead of Superman, fans can look forward to Creature Commandos, which is set to stream on Max to be the official start of James Gunn's new DC Universe. New photos and a premiere date have just been revealed, but Gunn also just dropped some information about Creature Commandos that has fans speculating about a DC rumor becoming true. A classic DC World War II hero might be making his way into Gunn's larger Dcu plans.
On Instagram, Gunn confirmed that the publicity photo of G.I. Robot is alongside Easy Company, a World War II fighting unit in DC Comics that first appeared in Our Army at War #81 in April 1959. The team is typically led by Stg. Rock, who many fans have speculated is in the photo of G.I. Robot as the soldier with his arm wrapped around his hand. While Sgt. The first animated entry in James Gunn's new DC Universe, Creature Commandos, finally has a release date. The seven-episode series debuting exclusively on Max releases Thursday, December 5. It will run weekly until January 16. The initial trailer back in July revealed the release window was in December, but now fans know exactly when they can sit down and start watching.
Characters from some of the previous Dceu franchises are still carrying over, notably the Gunn-directed Peacemaker, but Creature Commandos is the first show set strictly in the new Dcu. The stacked cast includes Viola Davis making her return as Amanda Waller after previously portraying the character in live-action across various entries in the now-defunct Dceu. Gunn's brother Sean Gunn is pulling double duty in the series as the voice of both GI Robot and Weasel, the latter of which appeared in 2021's The Suicide Squad. Alan Tudyk brags about his upcoming DC Universe series Creature Commandos, which he says is very good and is the best thing I had read in so long. Tudyk portrays Doctor Phosphorus on the animated Dcu show, and the character was originally introduced as a Batman villain in the comic books. The actor describes Doctor Phosphorus appearance by saying, He kind of looks like a Ghost Rider."
Batmans nearly 50-year-old radioactive adversary, Doctor Phosphorous, is making the leap from comic books to James Gunn and Peter Safrans DC Universe. And it is the talented actor Alan Tudyk who will be bringing the fiery Dr. Alex Sartorius, aka Doc Phosphorous, to life in the DCUs animated series, Creature Commandos. Tudyk boasts that the Suicide Squad-esque show is very good, and he even describes his character without giving away any juicy spoilers. Tudyk said of the show in an interview with Collider:

Frank Grillo describes Creature Commandos as "funny and filthy" with a hard R-rating. Grillo's character, Rick Flag Sr., is the boss of the group, bringing a gravitas and "I don't give a s--t" attitude. Grillo expresses excitement about his future in the Dcu, hinting at the possibility of playing his character in live-action and teasing some other secret projects.
Action star Frank Grillo, who will play Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos, describes James Gunn's first Dcu animated series as "funny and filthy," and teases the show's R-rating. Although all eyes of DC fans are now on Superman: Legacy, which will start shooting next month, the reboot of the Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Comics franchise will in fact kick off later this year in the animated format with the release of Creature Commandos, a very ambitious project developed by Gunn himself. And it seems that it is going to be a wild adventure.

Exclusive: Lifetime has rounded out cast for both installments of Toni Braxton’s Fallen Angels Murder Club, and Angie Harmon’s Barstow (working title) movies. The movies fall under previously signed deals with Braxton and Harmon, in which they will star in and executive produce multiple films for Lifetime.
Eddie Cibrian has joined the first installment of Braxton’s Fallen Angels, while Kelly Hu joins the cast of the second film. Both films are based on the Hollis Morgan mystery book series by author R. Franklin James.
Cibrian stars as Avery Mitchell, Hollis Morgan’s (Braxton) charismatic boss, while Hu will make her debut in the second installment as the mysterious Joelle. Both productions have started filming and will premiere in 2022. Additionally, Harmon’s Barstow (working title) movies has added Kristoffer Polaha as Elliot, a mysterious stranger with a troubling past.
In the first installment of Fallen Angels Murder Club (wt), members of the Club must have two things in common – a love for books and have a criminal record. Hollis Morgan (Braxton) meets both requirements. Left holding the bag in an insurance fraud scheme concocted by her ex-husband, Hollis served her time and now hopes the court will pardon her conviction so she can return to law school and fulfill her dream of becoming a lawyer. But when a member of her book club is murdered in a scene straight out of the previous night’s novel, Hollis once again becomes the subject of police scrutiny. Refusing to get stuck with another bad rap, Hollis sets out to investigate her fellow club members and after a second book-inspired murder, she races to identify the killer before she becomes the next victim.
Cast also includes Keith D. Robinson, Lisa Berry, Yanic Truesdale (Gilmore Girls), Kaitlyn Leeb (Spinning Out), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia), Rainbow Sun Francks (Umbrella Academy), Henderson Wade, Rob Stewart, Raoul Bhaneja and Shawn Ahmed.

In Barstow (wt),Harmon stars as Hazel King, a single mother determined to shield her daughter from the life she once had while protecting and defending those who can’t protect themselves. Plucked off the streets of Las Vegas at 15, Hazel was trained as a hit woman until a surprisng pregnancy drives her to leave it all behind. Living as a single mother running a diner in Barstow with her teenage daughter, Hazel’s past eventually catches up with her and she’s pulled back in for one more hit.
Additional cast include Lauren Richards, George Paez, Tim Granaderos, Gabriel Rodriguez, Casey Mills, Ben Cain, Anthony Reynolds and Nelson Bonilla.
The Barstow movies are produced for Lifetime by Untitled Entertainment and executive produced by Angie Harmon, Michael Rosenberg, Laura Notarianni, Stan Spry and Eric Scott Woods. The first film is written by Tom Evans and directed by Howie Deutch.

Clarice Episode 12
In Clarice episode 12, “Father Time,” Agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) finally loses her shit and clocks someone, and the series is better off for it. The young agent who rose to the top of a media circus on her first serial killer case has been scrutinized, chastised, hypnotized, and downsized since returning to the field. She’s had to run amok straight into danger just to get a point across which will solve cases. Tonight, Clarice lashes out at everyone, packs her boxes, and runs until her legs give out. It provides the most satisfying episode the series has given so far.
Starling has even had enough of her chosen, as opposed to assigned, therapist. Dr. Renee Li (Grace Lynn Kung), is the very definition of calming. Just a few words from her mouth usually silence the lambs in Clarice’s head. But...

Clarice Episode 11
Clarice, episode 11, “Achilles Heel,” could almost be called the “I-told-you-so” episode. After half a season of knocking down Agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) as a rogue, unreliable, dangerous or mentally unbalanced cop, almost every character who got screen time this season gets to say their version of “we should have listened to Clarice.” This bodes well for the investigation, but also for the psyches of her closest acquaintances.
In the last episode, Clarice decided Catherine Martin (Marnee Carpenter) had to face some consequences for her actions. The surviving victim of the serial killer Buffalo Bill took his mother hostage, not entirely intentionally, but functionally enough to warrant observation. Catherine’s mother, the Attorney General Ruth Martin (Jayne Atkinson), is incensed over the idea her daughter is being victimized by the system, especially since she gave strict orders to the agent she forced to go rogue,...

However, Teddy decided on Grey's Anatomy Season 16 Episode 20 that Owen was the man for her, and asked him if they could rush the wedding.

Originally from Chicago, African-American actor Nicole J. Butler moved to Los Angeles 10 years ago. She now enjoys an acting career in which she seldom plays roles that stereotype African Americans. Though she confronts this issue from time to time and believes it can be an ongoing problem for some actors, she has more often than not taken jobs she has found comfortable and rewarding. After Butler studied theatre at the University of Iowa, she moved to L.A. and got stuck in corporate America for a few years. "I finally told myself, 'I didn't move to L.A. to be somebody's secretary,'" she says. "Once I got serious and told myself an acting career was going to happen now or never, I realized I needed to really do this or else go someplace where I could afford to buy property. So I started taking acting classes [at the Sanford Meisner Center] and looking for opportunities,...

Weirdsville
Toronto International Film Festival
Director Allan Moyle has described Weirdsville as a Canadian Trainspotting, which is a bit of wishful thinking. It's true that this picture takes a slightly fractured, surreal look at a group of stoners, but it lacks the inventiveness and biting edge of Danny Boyle's landmark movie. While Moyle's offering has some quirky pleasures, it seems unlikely to achieve either major cult status or boxoffice success.
The plot interweaves a number of discordant plot strands. Dexter (Scott Speedman) and Royce (Wes Bentley) are druggies and low-level dealers who owe money to their drug boss, Omar (Raoul Bhaneja). They think they might be able to get out of the hole when they learn about a stash of money secreted in a safe belonging to a local businessman, but before they can bag the loot they have to contend with the apparent overdose of their pal Mattie (Taryn Manning). While trying to bury the body, they run into a bumbling gang of satanists crying for blood. Mattie revives unexpectedly, but the satanists target her as their next human sacrifice. Soon the chase is on, abetted by a band of midgets.
While some of the incidents in Willem Wennekers' script are bizarrely funny, director Moyle (Pump Up the Volume) fails to provide the energy necessary to keep us involved. The film jumps around following the misadventures of the characters, and the whole enterprise comes to be frenetic and convoluted rather than pleasingly impudent. One problem is that drug humor has lost much of its novelty by now. On the other hand, the satanists are an amusing troupe, with their clean-cut appearance belying their taste for torture. Jordan Prentice also has some tartly funny moments as a height-challenged security officer.
In fact, the cast is generally better than the material. Speedman and Bentley, who haven't quite been able to parlay their good looks and youthful promise into successful careers, demonstrate more charm incarnating these grungy characters than they have sometimes shown in blander heroic parts. Speedman plays the brainier and more responsible of the pals, while Bentley is his clueless sidekick. Both of them relish their walk on the seamy side. Manning, who made a strong impression in "Hustle & Flow," is wasted here, but Greg Bryk and Maggie Castle as the two earnest devil-worshippers bring a lot of flair to their loopy roles.
Technically, the film is fairly ragged, and it tries too hard to make a virtue of its kinkiness. Plotting is far too haphazard to hold the audience's attention. Although this macabre comedy has diverting touches, it fails to add up to a satisfying whole.
