Ian was born in New York City and attended college in Pennsylvania. After college, he found acting.
He began in community theatre and films in the mid-1990's. He was cast in "Sally" (2000) as Dr. Cris Craft, playing opposite Sam Coppola, Michael Weston and Rachael Leigh Cook.
He is one of the producers of "The Blue Eyed Six" (2007) and "Right Before Your Eyes" (2019).
In 2019, he founded the production company Grandpa Jack Films LLC.
